there are so many different names for this ship i don't even know what to tag it

Frozen heart au

K so another au I’ve been thinking about recently is about Blue Lion and why she’s the most friendliest lion out of all of them.

What if the reason why she is the friendliest Lion is because she has to be. In this au the Blue Lion is usually the first of the lions to really connect with her Paladins, and the more she connects with her Paladins, the more the paladin can use her ice powers, use her ‘magic’. But there’s a down side. Like all magic, there’s a cost. The more the paladin uses her powers, or the more deep the connection goes between her and her paladin, and sometimes if the paladin has to much stress or has a major rift in their emotions, the more likely they can becomes overwhelmed by her magic. Which can result in many different things, either their body starts to freeze, which can lead to death. Or their hearts become frozen; they can’t love or their view on love or just on the world can become twisted and cold.

She has to be the most friendliest and the easiest to accept new Paladins because she has to be.

Now I remember that there was another post about how haggar (I think that’s how you spell her name) was the original blue paladin, I don’t remember who posted it, but if you know who please tell me so I can tag them. Anyways, I’m kinda on board with Haggar being the original blue paladin, but her heart had become frozen and twisted from using blues magic too much. And because of this she joined Zarkon and helped him.

Edit: it was @ftlosd who came up with the original blue paladin theory. Wanted to give a shout out cause I absolutely love it and it helped me come up with this au, so thank you!

Now think about all of this, and then think about Lance. Who is very connected to Blue, and because of this has very easy access to Blue’s ice powers. Lance who is already dealing with anxiety and some serious self-doubt. His heart starts to slowly freeze. Now the poor boy doesn’t know this is happening, at all. And Blue tries her very best to keep him happy, because she doesn’t want to lose him, she doesn’t want to lose another paladin because of this. She loves this little Cuban boy too much. So she listens, she encourages him as much as she can, all the while knowing that their bond is getting deeper, knowing that it’s putting him more at risk.

And then Shiro disappears, and Lance knows that until hey can find Shiro, someone has to lead Voltron. And Lance sees this as his shot to finally prove that he’s worthy of being with the others, even if it’s just as a temporary leader. But Keith hen says that Shiro asked him to lead Voltron. And it break Lance’s self-esteem to new heights. Once again, Lance is second to Keith. Once again, Keith is better than him. And it freezes his heart even more.

Now fast forward, to a fight with the Galra. Lance is fighting on his own when suddenly Haggar shows up. And she can see that Lance’s heart is slowly freezing. And she sees this as an opportunity to taking down the Paladins. She starts to fight Lance, and has him cornered away from the others. She starts telling him how the others don’t need him, how he could do his planet more good by joining the Galra. At first, Lance isn’t budging, no way is he going to join the bad guys, but then she starts talking about how Keith is so much better than him, how everyone thinks so, how he would always come up short compared to Keith. But if he joined the Galra, she could help him prove to everyone how he was better than Keith, that she could help him beat Keith and finally prove himself. She says that if he joined the Galra, they would leave his planet alone, that it would be safe. And Lance hesitates. He can’t really see a down side at first, but before he can say anything, Keith’s voice comes up on the radio, kind of berating Lance for disappearing on the team, to get back to the others before he does any more damage. And that makes lance snap. He takes Haggar up on her offer, it doing this makes his heart freeze.

Not completely, but just enough to twist his judgement.

And all the others hear are Blue’s pained roars as another one of her Paladins are lost to the darkness that hovers over all of her paladins.

That’s all I got for now, but there might be more coming sooner or later.

Yes, Dee, you really should be working. Bet your horses and their owners miss you when you spend all day on here. Why don't you be a regular fan & stop spreading lies & conspiracy theories about Sam & Cait. Wonder what the uni would think of Professor McD's wife being such an obsessed out of touch with reality fanatic. And it would really be embarrassing for K to know that her mother is considered an Outlander tinhatter. Light shipping with no conspiracy theories spread is the way to go, Dee.

Awww, anon, am I spending too much time on Tumblr for your tastes? Debunking too many of your sacred, but not very well supported opinions? Sorry about that- but what I choose to do with the publicly available information that is available to me is my prerogative, as also is how I spend my free time. That’s the time when I am not working. My tag line is a bit of humour, anon, not to be taken seriously. All the work gets done and then some, anon, never worry about that!
And speaking of publicly available information, I see that you have also availed yourself of some and done some poking about as to me and my family. No problem as far as I am concerned, or my family either. It is, after all, publicly available information and you are quite welcome to it. But you leave me at something of a social disadvantage, anon, in that you presume to address me on a first name basis- but, as you have chosen to remain anonymous-I don’t yet have your name to reciprocate properly with our first name basis communications. Oh, well, I suppose there is nothing for it but to just go on addressing you as “anon” until you see fit to introduce yourself.
But I suppose I should now get down to answering your questions. Since you have troubled yourself to learn so much about me it’s the least I can do to reciprocate your interest!

First, my clients are all quite aware of my blog, and of its direction. In fact we often laugh about the absurdities of social media, and the proclivities of certain of its users to take it upon themselves to tell others how they should think. ( that’s a polite way to say “NSTer, anon)

And then there is my husband, who as you point out, anon, is indeed a professor. He was a little miffed to learn about your interest in him, anon, but only because your research seems to have failed to turn up, and refer to him by, his actual job title. He is actually a Distinguished Professor- which means he holds an endowed chair, anon, which means he is a very important part of his department, he teaches the advanced courses, sits on important committees, oh, and he also has tenure. Which means that it doesn’t really matter to him, or to his uni, what sort of things his wife might choose to do with her spare time. Even if that thing is to be an “obsessed out of touch with reality fanatic” lol! He is also well aware of my blog, and it’s content. In fact we both get a really good laugh together most mornings when he shares with me the latest political news a la Trump and friends, and I fill him in on the latest fandom happenings (that’s also a polite way to say “NSTer happenings, anon)

And then there is my lovely daughter, anon. I am so glad you didn’t leave her out of this as I am always happy to talk about her- that’s what parents love to do! She’s also well aware of my blog, and it’s content as well, anon. In fact she was the one who got me started in Tumblr. She ran a fandom blog in another fandom for several years and is also well aware of ships and shipping- and how the term "tinhatter” is applied to any ship that an individual disagrees with (which is a polite way of saying “NSTer”, anon)

So now that the pleasantries are sorted, anon, let’s get down to your real reason for writing. The conspiracy thing. You advocate “light shipping” for me, but there is no such thing. Not in the dictionary, not in the Urban Dictionary, and not even on Google. It doesn’t exist as a word, or a concept. It is only a “thing” in the minds of certain bloggers. The truth is, anon, you either ship it or you don’t. No heavy or light to it.
And as to any “conspiracies” that is also a thing that comes with the territory in this fandom. The position of both sides requires there to be a “conspiracy” for their position to exist. The Sam Cait ship requires the “official” narrative of Sam and other girls to be a put on. And the Samzie ship requires the whole of the matter between Sam and Cait, as displayed by them their own selves, to be a put on. Either way someone is doing a put on, anon, it’s just a difference of opinion as to who.

When I add it up I get sam and Cait, as do my family and friends. Others get a different answer. So be it. Live and let live, and it is all public information after all. It’s not illegal, or even immoral to form opinions about it. Or to print those opinions or discussions.

And that brings me to your last point, anon. The implication that I am putting my family at risk by looking at publicly available information, and printing my opinions about it. Or that I am doing something wrong that I, or they, would not want known about.
It’s obvious that is not the case. If I was doing wrong, and if you were actually someone with the power to do something about that, then we would be having this communication via letterhead, and not via an anonymous submission to my Tumblr blog.

And maybe you should ask yourself what it is that you are really saying when you resort to threats to try to silence the words what you claim to be nothing more than an “obsessed, out of touch with reality fanatic”. If I was truly just a “tinhatter” shouldn’t it be easy to simply ignore me the same way that everyone ignores the homeless guy who stands on the busy intersection preaching loudly, every day, about the end of he world which according to him is directly upon us?
Instead you take the time out of your life to research my family and compose implicit threats- and no one likes to waste time. That tells me that my words are not meaningless. That tells me that my words are believable- and that they are believable enough to cause a threat to your worldview. And that you had no facts at hand, or even a good argument to make to refute them. No reason to need me silenced otherwise that I can see. There really isn’t a higher compliment

So thanks, anon, for taking the time out of your day so send me such a gracious compliment. My family and I send you our regards. Sorry we can’t thank you personally at this time since you are still anonymous, but perhaps in time you will feel comfortable introducing yourself. Or maybe not, since your choice to remain anonymous rather confirms the view that revealing your true identity would also be a reveal that you are in fact nobody whose opinion actually matters- or you would be using your real name and revealing that your opinion DOES matter after all. But this all is making even my eyes roll, anon, so take care of yourself, anon, whoever you are!
Until then- Cheers!

(part 1) ur gonna roast me for this but im legit curious why mafia AUs are so bad? im asking in a non confrontational way, i get it romanticizing mafia is wrong, but i also believe that 1)most mafia AUs are a really toned down type of mafia;2)they do make for some interesting kinds of dynamics with fanart and with fics; 3)in a fic specifically u can create your own world and call something mafia and still make it so they don't kill innocent people but only idk members of other gangs or sth

(part 2) plus theyre a way to put ur charas in a completely diff context and see what theyll do. i mean i dont believe that writing ships in a certain context (like mafia) equals romanticizing that context. mafia AUs arent even my fav things to read (in fact i almost never do), im sure many ppl romanticize it and i obvs dont agree with that but im just trying to udnerstand bc i believe fandoms are a way to explore things that we normally wouldnt.

I’m not gonna roast you don’t worry xD okay wait let me check if I replied to this already if yes I’m gonna c/p because it’s half past midnight otherwise I’ll just go at it again wait *checks tags* fff obviously I don’t have a general post but anyway pls read this after you’ve done with my post and then this which is also choke-full of links. plus for a (not nice) laugh: here. AH WAIT I FOUND THE POST.

okay, so, let’s have it out of the way: I have nothing against mob aus or crime aus. I have a problem against calling them mafia AUs because in the US mafia = organized crime at large, in Italy mafia = ACTUAL EXISTING ORGANIZATIONS THAT ARE ACTIVELY HARMFUL. now that I introduced the topic I’ll c/p you the reply I gave to another anon who while discussing the issue pointed out that most writers don’t even know Italian mafia is a thing, which is pretty much on the same discourse so…

*The thing is - in the US it might not be enough of a deal anymore and I honestly do get why people make the mafia = regular mobsters, since the mafia was the first foreign organized crime being exported to the US via italian immigrants (sorry if this sounds horrible in English but I just woke up and I still didn’t have coffee) so I understand that mafia became the umbrella term. But the thing is that - as you said, these people don’t even know that there’s a mafia in Italy anymore or where the word comes from.

I’m going to link to italiansreclaimingitaly’s tag about the mafia and its perception outside Italy because they posted about this extensively and it’s an excellent resource, but meanwhile I’m gonna do a very short bullet point list and about the topic:

  • Mafia might not be a big deal in the US, but it still is here. We have the beauty of four different mafias (Cosa Nostra - the Sicilian one, camorra which is the one in Campania but has tendrils spread everywhere, the ‘ndrangheta which is in Calabria and the Sacra Corona Unita in Puglia) which are all active [especially camorra and 'ndrangheta] and whose actions have direct impact (negative) on our economy and on our society. Actually mafias are one of the main reasons we’re currently economically fucked up, and if I start talking about how mafia culture keeps some areas literally backwards I could talk about it for three months.
  • There are still people who are killed for standing up against them. These days the most prominent personality is Roberto Saviano who is a writer who dared to put together a book documenting minutely the way camorra works and he’s been living under protection for years by this point. Like, they want him dead because he wrote a book. And I’m sorta sure that he was talking about leaving Italy and going to the US after years of sticking with it here because he can’t take it anymore but I don’t know if it was a taken decision or if it’s still debating it.
  • It wasn’t even thirty years ago that we had the stragi di mafia - in english it’d be something like the mafia slaughters, basically around the beginning of the nineties there were a number of bombs planted by the mafia targeting people who were trying to oppose it including judges Falcone and Borsellino, actually the anniversary of Falcone’s death is like… tomorrow. And they’ve killed people for way longer than that. Here is a list of only Cosa Nostra victims including the ones from the eighties/nineties. And people are still dying because of it. The slaughters I’m referring to are just the ones in the nineties which are enough of a number.
  • They also perpetuate a culture where if you testify against your mafia-employed relatives you’ll be shunned forever. There are women who testified against their families and couldn’t see their children anymore never mind that they weren’t automatically considered a relative anymore the moment they sided against the mafia. Some people have committed suicide after becoming witnesses also because our police force/justice system can be terribly non-supportive in this kind of situation so they got left on their own. Never mind that back in the day - it was the beginning of the nineties? - I recall at least a particular story of - I think, correct me if I remember wrong but I can’t remember the names for the life of me - where this guy testified against the local mafia when he either used to work for them or was forced to pay them the pizzo and in retaliation his six-year old (or five? Anyway he had a son younger than ten for sure) got kidnapped, killed and thrown into acid to dispose of the body. That happened in what, 1993? 1994? It’s pretty much yesterday. And now the camorra is doing the same - there’s a list here of camorra victims among which accidental passerbys that got killed because they were in the way which I can tell just by glancing is not complete. And I’m not even going into the 'ndrangheta. That is to say, here mafia still kills people and cripples our country.

Now, I get that it’s a word, but the point was: let’s say that instead of the Italians the Japanese came to the US first and the umbrella word for organized crime was yakuza rather than mafia and let’s say yakuza was still what it was originally in Japan while in the US it stopped being a big deal and people write yakuza!AU instead of mafia AU. Let’s say someone Japanese gets angry at that and goes like 'listen the yakuza is a real deal it does this this this and that and it’s a plague in our country so can you please at least look it up before writing your fanfic’, which is what had happened way back then when this whole mafia and fanfic thing blew up. A bunch of people told us to get over it because it’s just a word and if it’s a problem in Italy it’s not in the US so why should they care? Now, if we had been Japanese (or Chinese or Russian or Mexican) would they have said the same thing? Considering the general tumblr attitude I’m pretty sure they would have received either an apology or 'this is an important deal let’s keep that in mind’ with signal boost reblogs and stuff.

It’s the fact that we should get over people not knowing that it’s still a real problem for us and that they can’t take five seconds to google it that is the problem imo. Especially when instead of mafia au you can just say mobsters au or tag it as organized crime and everyone is a lot happier, mostly because as the tag above explains romanticising the mafia is a good thing for them because it means they can act outside Italy with less stigma because everyone thinks that the mafia is dead or not relevant anymore, if I’m explaining myself. (And it’s active outside Italy - like, there was a mafia kill in Germany in 2007 where six people died (sorry the link is in Italian but there isn’t an English wiki page, if you look the city up you’ll find something probably) and it was because of the 'ndrangheta.

I’d really like to not get worked over it because it meant it was a thing of the past y'know, but the problem is that it isn’t and I’d rather spread some awareness in hope some of these writers look it up (because it’s a good thing that people know what mafia is since as stated they have tendrils everywhere - if you read Saviano’s book the entire first chapter is about how camorra regularly deals with Chinese import/export in Italy for one) than shrug and figure that since they’ll think everything is good for fanfic then it’s not even worth my time.*

Now, ^^^ that was the c/p-ed reply that should answer most of your doubts. What I didn’t address was:

im sure many ppl romanticize it and i obvs dont agree with that but im just trying to udnerstand bc i believe fandoms are a way to explore things that we normally wouldnt.

aaaand as we say here in Italy, this is where the donkey falls (sorry we have weird sayings), because in theory there’s nothing wrong with that… except that in 99% of the mafia aus I’ve seen around the thing is that they’re supposed to be cute.

like, I see a lot of shit with TINY MAFIA BOSS STEVE ROGERS with RUSSIAN ENFORCER BUCKY (????? bucky isn’t even russian???) and the yoi thing I saw before had the japanese character being the leader of a russian mafia gang which is… like… guys it doesn’t happen it really doesn’t, and a lot of them re-use wrongly terminology taken from the godfather without context or knowing what the hell it means, and it’s always from the criminals’ pov and they’re somehow seen as criminals doing justice where the police can’t (???) and like… no. mafia bosses/enforcers/employees are bad people period, and at least here if you try to leave or repent they kill your family in retribution. like, not even ten years ago there’s been a woman who used to belong to a mafia family (or one colluded with the mafia) who testified and her entire town/family shunned her and she couldn’t take it anymore and… killed herself drinking acid if I don’t recall wrong. it’s not even special cases. this shit is not funny, it’s not cute, it’s not adorable and it’s not good fodder for your imagine your otp scenario (srsly I saw one like.. let me find it,

LIKE. just look at this shit. in a regular context, the enforcer goes to the show owner to force them to pay a monthly sum to their boss lest they destroy their shop and their lives and their family’s life never mind that mafia culture is deeply homophobic so the mafia enforcer flirting with the shopkeeper is like completely fucking out of the question. I mean, people here like to shit on the sopranos but that show was actually excellent representation of Horrid Criminals Who Were Never Supposed To Be Good People and the small arc that happened when one of tony’s friends turned out to be gay (closeted) was REALLY well done. btw, it ended that when they found out he was gay most of the crowd rejected him and thought badly of him until I think they killed him also for other reasons, but that spiraled from finding out he liked dick. and that’s american mafia that they actually based on well-done research of the culture in Italy it came from, I assure you that here it doesn’t work that differently. like. the shit above is so inaccurate and frankly offensive, it’s like… I get people romanticizing problematic stuff but the thing is that when you tell them that it’s actually offensive you get brushed off as ‘ah well you’re being too sensitive it’s just a word u__u’. now, I’m all for exploring shit we wouldn’t be into, but not like THAT, because that’s like mafia romantic comedy and that’s not how it works. now, you wanna do a fic where the mafia characters are deeply flawed and bad people and the police tries to catch them? fine, great, go ahead. you wanna do a fic where the enforcer above deals with dunno an entire life of internalized homophobia when he finds the shopkeeper attractive and feels conflicted over having to con money out of him and doing horrible shit for a living and maybe understanding that crime isn’t worth it and then he actually collaborates with the police and gets shit from about everyone he knows and loves for that? okay, awesome, go ahead. nothing bad in that.

but the shit above is not exploring things we wouldn’t/writing darkfic, it’s THINKING THAT A CRIMINAL ORGANIZATION WHICH IS STILL A THING IN OUR PART OF THE WORLD IS CUTE AND ADORABLE. and that only plays in their favor because it takes the bad aura out of the word and we really should not let that happen. like. that is what is bad about mafia aus and mafia discourse, that people don’t realize the mafia is alive and well and thriving and not a thing that doesn’t exist or a generic word for organized crime.

you wanna write the shit above? okay, CALL IT CRIME AU or mob au, not mafia au.

btw, add-on: idk if I mentioned it in the above post or not, but in case I didn’t, I said that people would balk at the idea of a mexican cartel au. sadly since then I’ve found out a fandom where not only there is one but it’s also extra cutesy and people apparently love it and it has a bunch of kudos/comments and idek I’m not even touching that with a ten foot pole but like… I’ve avoided it and everything that author wrote because to me it’s just… nope. like, nope. if you do mafia aus don’t make them fucking cute. (also: in the same fandom I had to mute a v. famous fanartist whose art I actually liked but did cutesy mafia aus and.. like… haahahhaahahahahaha nah sorry. can’t go there. nope.)

You know, that’s a really weird murderer. Anyway, THIS IS FUN! Honestly, i’d be dead already, because i don’t really care about convincing anyone when it comes to shipping. Before i start, i’m gonna state that ANYTHING I’LL SAY HERE IS BECAUSE I’M FIGHTING FOR MY LIFE, DON’T TAKE ANYTHING PERSONAL, GUYS. These will be pretty much the reasons why i ship them. The first part is a bunch of “objective” reasons (well as objective as it can get, because shipping can’t be a totally objective thing) and the other one is personal, so is up to you when to stop reading this. I apologize in advance for my English.

1)      Levi and Hanji are both really interesting and complex characters. He isn’t just a typical shonen badass guy and she’s not a typical crazy scientist. Levi is actually , from my pov, the most caring and selfless character of all SnK, he literally sacrifices himself over and over for the sake of others. Hanji isn’t just this sweet cheerful character, she has a mesmerizing willpower, nothing can stop her.

2)      They complement each other amazingly. They are both strong and smart, but in different ways. Any virtue that Levi doesn’t have, Hanji has it. Every flaw that Hanji has, Levi doesn’t. And they share two really important virtues, which are the foundation of any healthy relationship: they are both so loyal and passionate. They are literally willing to give up their lives for the people they love.

3)      THEIR INTERACTIONS ARE SO FUN TO READ/WATCH. You just know that, whenever they are together, something great is going to happen. There’s something refreshing about them, about their bickering, about the way they work together, about the way they care about each other so deeply.

4)      I think nobody can understand them more than each other. They have experienced similar things as soldiers, they have lost people they love countless times. I bet they could be sharing each other stories all night long, reminiscing all of those good times with Moblit, Erwin and their old squads.

5)      Okay, i won’t force my ship to anyone, but since i’m fighting for my life here, i’ll say i think there are actual canon hints for Levihan. Like the “Levi bathes Hanji” thing, the “we tell each other everything” thing (don’t u dare telling me Hanji clearly said they’re just friends, cuz isn’t that what every Levihan shipper has as a headcanon? The idea of them not admitting their true feelings and say “we’re just friends” ‘cause they’re both awkward dorks), their interaction in ACWNR, their interaction in Shingeki! Chuugakkou, and the “Levihan is similar to Eremika” thing. It’s up to you, random killer, to decide if that means romance or not.

6)      I hate to fangirl here, but HAVE U SEEN THEM? They are both beautiful and would have babies as beautiful and brilliant as them. What a blessing. I love drawing them so much because their character design is gorgeous. Levi with his cold colors and Hanji with the warm colors, they even complement each other in that aspect.

7)      The Levihan fandom is amazing. Besides the fact that there’s no drama and everyone is so kind, I’m pretty sure this is the ship with the funniest fan art. Even the most serious person would smirk even a little bit while scrolling through the Levihan tag. I mean, we’re all about the laughs. All of the other ships usually focus on the classic romantic stuff (i say “classic” , because from my pov there’s nothing more romantic than the OTP having fun ❤). With Levihan, you’ll get from the most intense fan art to the most ridiculous headcanon, it’s so much fun. Some Levihan artists are pretty well known among non Levihan shippers because of that same reason, like @alemanriq, @trash-god or @drinkyourfuckingmilk . I mean, really, if you’re feeling down and need to cheer up a bit, they’re the way to go.

One of the main arguments people have against Levihan is that they’re too different, so it wouldn’t work. They even go as far as saying that Levi doesn’t really care that much about Hanji. My first response is that both Hanji and Levi are highly misunderstood characters. We don’t have to let our personal experience makes us decide what is love and what isn’t. We all show our love in very different ways.

Now heres my second argument to that idea and this is gonna get personal. If you don’t wanna read about my life, skip this.

A YouTube AU for Arbor

- she has a beauty channel!
- Does lots of makeup videos but also stuff about clothes and what sorts of things look good together
- The channel is part of her own company, Altea Designs
- She has some of her models guest star a lot, so she can show different ways to use makeup on different face shapes and skin tones
- She also has her models come on with her fashion tips vids
- Her company & videos are well known for diversity; she has models that represent a vast array of race, body type, health, gender, age, and orientation
- Shiro will sometimes guest star and do one of those “boyfriend does your makeup” videos except he’s atually Really Good at it because he likes to watch allura’s videos and he has learned from them

Shiro & Matt:
- they co-run a channel
- It’s one of those vlog channels where the videos are kind of random topic-wise, but they always end up geeking out no matter the subject
- Shiro and matt are long distance, and whenever they visit each other they make sure to make a bunch of videos together
- Those end up being the longest ones because they geek out even MORE when they’re together and they keep causing each other to digress into different subjects until their discussion on recycled water somehow becomes excited rambling about aliens
- They are also really animated in their videos together because being near each other makes them happy
- The running gag of the channel is that they trade off turns posting and making videos, so at the end of each video Shiro will give matt his next topic and vice versa. Sometimes he will choose himself or take a question from their fanbase, whichever one he feels like
- Allura likes to guest star in shiros videos, and she’ll happily join in on the subject if she knows things about it, but if she doesn’t she’ll just listen to Shiro talk and ask him questions to keep him going. A very common video topic fans always request for matt to give to Shiro is one about his relationship with Allura, and matt has given that as a topic at least ten times (because he loves seeing his boyfriend full of love. that and he always gets mentioned and gushed about too)
- They aren’t exactly sure how they got fans, seeing as they’re pretty random in content, but they love their fan base very much and go to conventions a lot to meet fans

Lance, Hunk, Keith, and Pidge:
- they have a channel that’s kind of like a talk show in a way (like gmm)
- Pidge is the camera gal, and the other three are the talkers
- Lance likes to do weird challenges the fans come up with. The episodes where he has the most say are the food challenges (like guessing what kind of meat something is, or testing their spice tolerance) and the wacky game episodes (so far his all time favorite was the fast food themed mini olympics, and he is the reigning champ)
- Keith likes the more fact-based episodes, where they really just talk about a subject and make the learning really entertaining. Think of those videos that like, show you the stuff certain foods like pineapples and cashews grow on. However in this category of episodes his favorites are talking about urban legends, ghosts, cryptids, and aliens, and he ends up talking a lot more than usual in these episodes.
- Hunks favorite videos are the ones where they test certain things. They’ve done stuff like seeing how ice baths effect your ability to answer trivia questions, or if there’s really that much of a difference between brand name products and generic products. However he is always very talkative on other episodes, and has never been one to refuse to do something in a challenge, not matter how outlandish it may seem
- Pidge is the channel cryptid. She’s constantly referred to by the others, and her voice is in an episode once in a blue moon, but the fans Never See Her And Never Will
- The fanbase they have is super supportive and loving, and there’s running jokes about who’s the best host. The fandom will often color code their blogs and such with the primary color that’s assigned to their “favorite” host. There are many, many blogs with yellow themes in their fanbase
- There used to be some gross fans in the beginning that shipped lance and Keith together. However they all found out this was happening and made a video specifically focused on irl shipping and how toxic it is, and they asked everyone to either stop shipping them or to unsubscribe, because they wouldn’t tolerate it and were made very uncomfortable by it
- This is a fictional world so the fans actually respected that
- Eventually, after a few years of having the channel together and growing ever closer, the three announced they had all started dating. They made sure to clarify that them dating didn’t mean people could still make ship content of them, and the fans were very happy that they found love with each other and never, not once, make klunk fanfiction because all the fans love them dearly and would never ever purposely make them uncomfortable like that

- Coran doesn’t actually have a channel, but he’s basically everyone’s surrogate uncle (or in Alluras case, step father)
- He’s made guest appearances on everyone’s channels, and he’s the biggest fan of each channel
- His appearances aren’t rare, but they’re also not common, but the fans of all the channels absolutely adore him
- He has a small fanbase of his own that call themselves the Coranics, and while this confuses coran greatly it also makes him very happy

That’s all I have for right now, but I’m actually really liking this au so I might write more for you later

aaaaaa i love this and u??? 11/10 best youtube au i’ve ever seen!!!!

From a writer’s point of view? He’s a fucking tragedy. (and no, I don’t mean the pieces of background story we did get on him, that’s been said and discussed before) He’s kind of the worst villain a story can have - and here is why:

To your last post: Sometimes I feel like the younger generation wants fandom and fan culture to be back in the closet, back to something that isn't talked about IRL. Not even on purpose or anything like that, but it sure feels like that'll happen with all their calls of "don't ship/write/draw that icky thing where I can see, it's PROBLEMATIC". They make fandom unsafe for everyone. The fandom I'm in is so toxic there is constantly people lashing out against what I ship and create and I'm tired.

I really get that. I often wish we had a fan-owned social media platform that could combine the advantages of livejournal (flocking your journal, long, cohesive comment threads) with those of tumblr (shared tags, open spaces, easier ways to connect and share content). But for now, fandom’s platform is tumblr, so we have to make do.

I think it’s important not to be intimidated. Protect yourself by all available means - blocking, unfollowing, blacklisting - clean your dashboard, follow like-minded people, even if they are from different fandoms - but you’ll see that they have to deal with similar problems. It comes with the benefit that when you see something hurtful on your dash, chances are good that someone else has already written a well-worded reply, which you can then back up with a variety of “This!” if you feel like it.

Keep on doing what you love and don’t get too defensive. Keep in mind, you don’t have to justify yourself for the things you like - ships, kinks, tropes, whatever, it’s fine. I know it’s easy to doubt yourself when people attack you so viciously, but really, they are the ones deciding to harass you when they could just as easily leave you be, which tells you something about their real motives.

Actually, refusing to get defensive and apologetic over your ships is a surefire way to make concern trolls and would-be sjws froth at the mouth. How dare you unrepentantly ship That Thing™! How dare you not even try to explain yourself by telling them all about your personal life and your reasons for liking That Thing™ (so that they can in turn tell you that it’s not an excuse, and call you names)! No, really, don’t explain yourself. Blatantly refuse to be intimidated. They hate confidence more than anything because they only gain theirs by dogpiling on others.

Oh, and they hate getting laughed at. So laugh at them. Find an angle to see something humorous in their comments. Roll your eyes at their catchphrases. Award them bonus points, depending on how many they use. “Perpetuating harmful stereotypes”. Check. “Hurting survivors”. Check. “Romanticizing abuse”. Check. “Horrible human being.” Check. “ —> “Congratulations! The SJ-o-meter ranked your post at 15 brp (bullshit rhetoric points).” They’ll get mad at you like you wouldn’t believe. Then, when you’ve driven them into a frenzy, block them. Block anyone else on their side of the trenches, don’t read their follow-up posts, just ignore them. Once you’ve understood the way these people argue, it’s ridiculously easy to predict what their next reply will be. Oh, and ask them questions like these:

“Do you also go to mainstream porn sites and shame the dudes watching gangbang clips? I mean, surely that’s a much more problematic thing than a couple of fans drawing rather exotic kinds of fanart.”

“Do you think we should ban the bible as well? After all, it’s fiction full of genocide, slavery, incest, and rape. And you have to admit, there are far more people reading the bible than fanfiction.”

“I see you posted about that episode of that series last week, where character A did this Illegal Thing™. Are you not afraid that people could see this episode and think it’s okay to do this Illegal Thing™?”

If they refuse to answer those questions - as they likely will, because the honest answer would be a no - ask them what their real motives are when they criticize other fans.

Also fallacies. It really helps to be able to tell when your opponent’s “argument” is just a red herring, or an ad hominem attack, or an appeal to authority. The famous “I am a survivor, so it’s my right to tell you what is or isn’t harmful” is just bullshit. Don’t even bother refuting these kinds of statement, it’s a waste of time; they’re easier fended off by pointing out their fallacious nature.

Last but not least, if you get anon hate, but don’t want to turn off anon asks altogether, publish them with random facts about the life of the Australian sea turtle. Or just delete them. They’ll keep watching your blog, silently fuming as you ignore them.

And remember, you are not alone. Fandom is full of great people, it just takes some effort to weed out the haters, and find a way not to let them ruin your day.

I'm sorry if I sound ignorant or rude but is there anything wrong with shipping Finn with Poe over Rey? I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm demanded an explanation or if I'm being entitled but I haven't seen anyone explain it and if it is wrong I'd like to know. (it's not that you have seemed against the ship but you seem against anything that isn't Finn x Rey sorry if I'm being wrong about that too, I'm trying :) have a nice day!)

Nonnie, you are in luck! R/ichonne going canon & John’s thirst trap have supplied me with the spoons needed to answer you :)

Upfront, let me be clear that there is nothing inherently wrong with shipping F/innpoe in lieu of F/innrey. Second, I’m not against anything that isn’t F/innrey, however, I /am/ skeptical of people’s motivations. Third, I /am/ against claims and arguments /against/ F/innrey, because being antagonistic toward F/innrey raises a multitude of red flags.

How the hell is being against a relationship which is clearly featuring abuse, not just an opinion it's literally fucking cannon that kylo mind raped Rey, considered childish? Even if Rey is random and not related to him in any way it's still incredibly harmful to support and romanticize that. I don't feel like I'm being childish for asking people to not support abusive relationships because as a survivor of one it'd be neat if it wasn't glorified. It's not cute, it's dangerous.

Here’s my take, since you asked so civilly…I have no problem with people being against a relationship. My dad hated all my exes. My mom hated all my brother’s girlfriends. I have talked with Antis in a friendly and courteous manner (and some of them are actually quite nice, because we talk about the things we both like about Star Wars rather than the things we hate. Those Antis are the precious Arkenstones in the sea of garbage that’s been festering under Smaug’s enormous cloaca).

What I don’t like is when people threaten others with death threats, childish nonsensical banters, telling people to go die, comparing them to Hitler (I bet you couldn’t last two fucking pages reading Mein Kampf you’d be so fucking offended), taking the time out of their day to find Reylo followers in the Reylo tag (first of all, the fuck kind of masochistic fetish you got going into a tag you hate?) and sending them hate mail, and overall just acting like a bunch of fucking babies about a fictional ship (and some of them ship other “toxic” relationships too so the hypocrisy is screaming to the heavens).

Let’s look at some of the best shows out there:Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, etc. is basically an entire cast of Kylo Rens and frankly, it is way more interesting than having sweet cherry pie characters who are already at peace with the world(hence, no conflict, hence no story, because conflict, if you’ve ever taken an English class, is central to the plot of a story. If you don’t like that, then you can lick the exact center of Shakespeare’s asshole, because that man’s fiction has lasted centuries, and you won’t.

I have a bombshell announcement to make guys: Star Wars is a story. It is not real life.

I may love Star Wars and shipping Reylo but I also have bills, and school, and a full-time job that is separate from the toxic microcosm that is Tumblr and social media, and a 5-year strong relationship that has only sustained itself because I don’t act like a fucking child. That’s called being an adult– being able to tell the difference and separate between a fictional story and real life. Because the day I get to play with a real goddamn lightsaber is the day I quit my job and become a Jedi (which wont happen, obviously.)

Kylo Ren does not exist irl. Rey does not exist irl. They’re not even in the same side of the war (I actually expected him to be more of an asshole to her, since you know…it’s a war? It’s even in the name…Star Wars). If he started treating her like she’s his best friend then I’d be like, the fuck kind of villain is this (and even now, I find some of his actions puzzling because they seem so grey compared to other awesome Star Wars Villains. See: Emperor Palpatine).

Obviously Kylo’s bad with girls and he can’t woo worth a damn but most of us actually ship Ben Solo–the redeemed version of him–rather than Kylo Ren, with Rey. We see how he tries to win her over, despite having a warped, twisted idea of what “good” is and instead of complaining outright about “abuse” we delve into character psychology. It seems many Antis also have a real big problem with how to use words properly, but I’ll let the Anti tag speak for itself with the staggering linguistic tragedies that befall most of their posts (your question included).

Many “controversial” shippers (despite the HUGE Reylo support outside of Tumbr. And Tumblr, is but a speck in the Star Wars fandom because most of you weren’t even alive when the original trilogy came out and there’s a lot of forty-year-old guys with money and thousands of dollars in collector’s items… most of you, from the looks of it, probably havent read a single EU novel) check our facts before we embarrass ourselves and we see past shallow black-and-white character development and attempt to understand character motivations. This is the difference between a High School paper and a Master’s dissertation…the ability to cut layers and ask questions and give evidence before making a decision. We have two movies left, so as a rational person, I’m going to wait and watch Episode VIII before I make more decisions about who I want to ship and who I give a damn about. And if Daisy can like and appreciate Reylo fan art, I dare you to go bitch on her social media and see if she gives a damn.

It seems most Antis don’t realize the line between fiction and reality, and are stuck in this sad, black hole where to them, life and fiction are the same thing because they’re scared of the real world. And unfortunately, most of the Antis in this fandom seem to be in this demographic.

Now, I’ve said this before: there’s idiots in every village. So I’m not surprised if there are Reylo shippers who are just as childish and embarrassing. But I find that many of us shipping veterans who don’t operate with such antics have to:

a) deal with morons who don’t get see it from our perspective and react like fucking babies

b) deal with said morons in a kind and courteous manner because we don’t want to descend to their level of stupidity (and believe me, our frustration is mixed with both amusement and pity for them). Their intentions are clear, but the execution is sloppy and tacky. Instead of getting your point across, all we see is “bitch bitch bitch whine whine whine waaaaaa someone change my poopy diaper waaaa” and what’s even sadder is some of you have not a sentient bone in your body to see that.

TL;DR: Y’all can spit your hate that I like Reylo but that’s like saying Ice cream is delicious so I personally don’t care if you’re whining to me like you think your opinion matters.

P.S. I’ve been in an abusive relationship and an abusive family life too, and I don’t use it as a fucking crutch because someone doesn’t agree with me. As a survivor, it’d be neat if you can kiss my shiny metal ass. You’re not cute, you look like a little bitch.

I know it’s a popular pairing right now and I’ve seen some wonderful art come out of it, but for some reason I just can’t get into it. Maybe because both of the characters’ pasts are still so mysterious that a lot of this relationship is theoretical? Or a lot of the basis for it comes from the comics I haven’t read yet? Or my favorite facet of Bubblegum’s personality is her chilling penchant for mad science and that doesn’t really come up in the fanworks I’ve seen for this ship? Or that I’m just not a huge shipper in general?? So I don’t not support it, it just isn’t my cup of tea – but I do support anything that makes people happy and inspires them to make friends and create art/fic/cosplay!

Certain elements of fandom confuse me.  Deeply.  Got this a little while ago (comment has been deleted, so don’t go looking for it, I don’t want some poor kid getting swamped with replies)

This one was fantastic up in until Darcy “won”. I don’t really understand the fandom’s love for her. She was not particularly interesting or memorable in Thor, it seems most of her personality traits are made up by the fandom and not canon to her character, but eh. Your universe, your self-insert or fandom personification or whatever she is.

Like, what is this?  Is this supposed to convince me not to write Darcy?  HAHAHHAHAH!  EPIC FAIL!  Now I want to write ALL THE DARCY!  HEAPS OF DARCY!  PILES OF DARCY!  This is the worst possible thing to say to me because I’m a stubborn Yankee woman and I dislike being told what to do and I don’t like when people insult my friends, even my IMAGINARY FRIENDS.

But let’s break this down, because I’m being salty.

If John was really unhappy with Mary, he would’ve taken the BIGGEST FREAKING FREE PASS IN THE WORLD to dissolve the marriage and leave her.

I mean, she had a whole secret past life as a cold-blooded assassin, and she shot his bestfriend! That’s like, a gigantic glowing shiny KICK MARY OUT OF YOUR LIFE NOW option!

But John didn’t. HE DIDN’T.

So you want news, bitter shippers who can’t accept that John actually is in love with Mary in a romantic way, a way in which he does not feel for Sherlock?

Here it is: John loves Mary SO BLOODY MUCH that he doesn’t care about her past and even called her future his PRIVILEGE. Not his duty, not his responsibility, not his burden, BUT HIS FLIPPING PRIVILEGE.

He loves her so much that he’d very much rather stay married to an ex-killer rather than break it off with her.

So ship johnlock all the live long day, that’s your business. If you ship peacefully without calling Mary slurs and being misogynistic bitter children, that’s great! Good for you!

But if you’re one of the ones who diminish just how much John is ROMANTICALLY IN LOVE with Mary, as is true in BBC canon, just because you’re so sore that johnlock isn’t canon, then you’re watching a different show. Don’t make up fake facts. To quote Martin Freeman himself, you’re not fans of the show, you’re fans of the show inside your heads.

And that’s from his lips, not mine.

P.S. Almost everyone in that show is a bloody liar. Sherlock Holmes is the biggest liar of them all. Moriarty is a liar. John Watson lies about what he feels sometimes. Kitty Riley was a liar. Irene Adler was a liar. Mycroft Holmes is a liar. Heck, even Mrs. Hudson AND Molly have told lies of their own.

I know Mary’s lie was big and it’s really a dealbreaker, but if you call her a “f*cking liar” while praising Sherlock and shipping him with John even though he basically lies through his teeth 80% of the time, then your double standard is pitiful. And no, don’t tell me that Sherlock lied to John to save his life. We know that the sniper meant to kill John was killed by Mycroft’s minion.

So technically, Sherlock Holmes LIED to John because he didn’t trust his own bestfriend enough to keep his secret, AND HE ADMITTED THAT. He lied about being alivet PRIMARILY because he thought John would blow his secret, and thus caused John grief and trauma because he doesn’t trust him enough to stay quiet.

But no one is giving him crap about it.

Mary lied because she wanted to start anew. Her past had nothing to do with Sherlock nor John. Yes, she made mistakes but she’s trying to move on from it. She didn’t plan on meeting John and making him fall in love then manipulating him. Yes she shot Sherlock but she also saved his life. It’s not justification enough but it shows that she does truly care for both John /and/ Sherlock.

She GAVE John a USB stick on everything about her, and she GAVE him the freedom to watch it and leave her. She didn’t threaten anyone for him to stay with her, she already accepted that John will most probably read the info on the USB and leave her. She was ready to accept her punishment. She wasn’t acting all smug and insensitive and all jokey-jokey like Sherlock was when he returned from the dead.

“You don’t even know my name!” –> That was Mary Watson actually trying to keep John Watson from MAKING PEACE WITH HER, almost trying to stop him from forgiving her, because she wants him to know everything about her first! It was JOHN who made the decision to start her life anew as Mary Watson.

But Mary Watson gets all the flak and Sherlock Holmes still gets treated like a hero.

It’s funny how shipping goggles can make people blind. That’d be all fine, if only it didn’t cause certain people to accidentally step all over other characters.

I love rivamika but I don't get why people are tagging shikimika from the live action movie as rivamika. There's a reason they weren't allowed to use Levi in the movie, it's obviously because the character in the movie was too far away from Isayama's idea of Levi that they couldn't use him. It's a completely different character and ship, with shallow similarities.

You have to understand that a lot of people saw Shikishima as Levi faaar before that kiss scene. It’s not just rivamika-exclusive–a lot of Levi fans feel this way about the character too. The thing is, even though Shikishima has differences from canon Levi, he still is filling in his spot and a lot of fans are going to see him as an alternate version of him because, well, Shikishima is literally Levi’s expy.

If the writers truly wanted to make an unique OC that wasn’t to be confused with Levi, they wouldn’t have borrowed so many of Levi’s attributes. It’s obvious that Shikishima is inspired by Levi, there’s no denying that and these are some of the reasons why:

They gave Shiki the same title as Levi: Humanity’s Strongest Man. They could’ve easily called him “the worlds best titan slayer” or something along those lines, but they used Levi’s title instead. And for those who say that Levi’s title is different:

This is from the official translation. Depending on the translation and wording, Levi is sometimes referred to as the strongest solider, man or human, so there’s not much difference between his and Shiki’s title.

Other than the height and a few minor details, Levi and Shiki share similar appearances and characteristics (judging by the trailer and the people who saw the movie in LA who said he behaves a lot like Levi). Both Levi and Shiki have their hair parted on the same side, they both wear white ruffly neck wear, and they’re both around the same age. Again, if they wanted to make a truly unique OC, they would’ve came up with a totally different appearance and persona that wasn’t to be confused with Levi. They could’ve made him younger and said he was a prodigy like Mikasa to set him apart from Levi, but instead they assigned him a similar age, appearance, characteristics, and title as Levi. Bearing all this in mind, they obviously used Levi as a template for Shikishima’s character, so it’s not far-fetched that some people see him as a alternate version of Levi.

As I said, many of us already saw Shikishima as Levi from the moment the casting information came out and it’s just embedded in our minds at this point lol. I think the only reason why his name and some details about him were changed was to avoid any backlash or complaints from his die-hard fans. They made a character that fans could interpret as Levi so they still get a Levi-ish experience in a live-action film, but also labeled him as an OC to save their asses just in case fans disliked his portrayal. At least that’s what makes sense to me.

Personally, I don’t mind if people see Shikishima as an OC, but I don’t really see the harm in people interpreting him as an alternate Levi? I mean, us perceiving him as Levi isn’t totally pulled out of thin air, we have plenty of valid reasons to believe Shiki is Levi’s expy. I say we should just let people have fun–the movie isn’t canon anyway so even if Shiki was actually named Levi in the movie, nothing about him would be canon anyway, you know?

Hey, I'm not sure if I quite ship Enoch and the Woodsman as a romantic thing at this point, but I think the idea of their relationship is really interesting and I'd like to hear more about it. If you don't mind, could you share some of your thoughts about it?

Hhooo boy, I can already tell I’m gonna get pretty long-winded with this! I’m super interested in their relationship; even though we know very, very little about it from what’s in the show. But it’s definitely there, I think.
