There was a “Bowling Green massacre” — in 1643, white settlers slaughtered 110 Native Americans

  • Last week on MSNBC, Kellyanne Conway invented a massacre that never happened in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
  • But here’s one that’s real: In 1643, white settlers massacred 30 indigenous people in what is now Bowling Green Park, one of the oldest sections of New York City, Indian Country Media Network reported.
  • Back then, New York City was known as New Amsterdam and was a struggling colonial outpost under Dutch rule.
  • The then-governor of New Netherlands, Willem Kieft, sent groups of European soldiers to an area at the tip of Manhattan island, which was then home to Lenape tribe.
  • The soldiers killed 80 members of the tribe in what is now Pavonia, New Jersey, and massacred another 30 in Manhattan. Read more

Countries ruled by...:

Did you know that countries and cities are ruled by zodiac signs?

A natal chart or birth chart is produced for a place when it’s founded or established. For instance Great Britain’s ‘birthday’ is the 25thDecemeber 1066, so it’s Capricorn. Greece and the Greek Islands are ruled by Venus, and are associated with Taurus and Libra. Scotland is a country associated with Cancer, characterised by it’s clans – tribes of families…

England, Germany, Poland, Palestine, Israel, Syria, Lithuania

Tasmania, Cyprus, Ireland, Switzerland, Capri, Rhodes, the Greek Islands

Belgium, Iceland, Sardinia, Morocco, Wales, Tunisia

Holland, USA, Paraguay, Scotland, New Zealand

France, Italy, Macedonia, Romania, Sicily, Madagascar, Zanzibar

Brazil, Greece, Switzerland, Turkey, Crete, Uruguay, West Indies

Argentina, Austria, Burma, Canada, China, Japan, Siberia, Tibet

Finland, Bavaria, Norway, Morocco, Queensland, Korea, Syria, the Transvaal

Australia, Chile, Hungary, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain

Bulgaria, Mexico, UK, Albania, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Lithuania, India

Iran, Russia, Sweden, Syria, Ethiopia

Egypt, Normandy, North Africa, Portugal, Samoa, Scandinavia

new rule: youre not allowed to call yourself a fan of moana unless you actually take the time to learn about pacific islander cultures, the continued colonization of our islands, and the exploitations of our resources both human and natural

House Greyjoy of Pyke is one of the Great Houses of Westeros. It rules over the Iron Islands, a harsh and bleak collection of islands off the west coast of Westeros, from the castle at Pyke. The head of the house is the Lord Reaper of Pyke. House Greyjoy’s sigil is traditionally a golden kraken on a black field. Their house motto is We Do Not Sow, although the phrase What Is Dead May Never Die is also closely associated with House Greyjoy and their bannermen, as they are associated with the faith of the Drowned God.

The Time Capsule Challenge

I want to start a new tradition/challenge with “Animal Crossing: New Leaf”: a time capsule challenge.

Mitzi asked me to go find her time capsule last night, and it occurred to me that I have been missing some great time capsule opportunities for myself.

That’s what I encourage you all to do now, too!

The rules are easy to follow, and you can do this however you’d like. There’s more than one way to recreate the memories.

  1. Find an item that brings back memories or that you cherish a lot.
  2. Wrap the gift in wrapping paper.
  3. Go to a remote place in town - that also won’t be disrupted by possible villagers moving in (like the beach), or maybe even the island instead - and bury the wrapped gift.
  4. Write your future self a letter with either a kind message, an inspirational quote, or really whatever you’d like.
  5. Ask Pelly or Phyllis to set it for a specific date in the future.
  6. Add that date to your calendar app, daily planner or wherever you keep your future events visible.
  7. When it’s time to find your capsule and open your letter, post pictures about it! (I feel like using the tag “ac time capsule challenge” in your post would be awesome.)

There isn’t a “right” or “wrong” to the amount of time you give for a capsule, same as there isn’t a right or wrong way to even do this. I set mine for 2 months for this first time capsule. Perhaps you’d rather wait a year? It’s up to you!

I hope you’ll join this challenge. It could be really fun.

With the reappearance of an old, best friend to my town, it’s brought back a lot of memories. So I’ve written myself a special message, with words of encouragement, and wrapped and buried an item that reminds me of the old days.

~ I can’t wait to see it again in May. ~

my favorite of 30 Rock’s Fake Shows

Gold Case a gameshow where the contestant has to guess which briefcase is full of gold. Super obvious bc gold is heavy.

MILF Island 25 super hot moms, 50 8th grade boys, no rules

Los Amantes Clandestinos a Puerto Rican telanovela

Dealbreakers Liz Lemon’s ill-fated daytime talk show

Bitchhunter the reason Liz’s TGS got on the air, to appease the women’s groups that opposed Bitchhunter

The Hot Box with Avery Jessup a politics/money show

Gals on the Town theme song: Love and friendship, having it all, or maybe just a great pair of shoes. One of them has to be Asian, can they be good at their jobs?

Queen of Jordan Tracy Jordan’s wife, Angie’s reality TV show, which stars Angie, a octuple threat (fashion designer, reality star, actress, singer, song-reader, perfumist, IBS survivor, author of a book she didn’t write, catchphrase coiner.) D’Fwan, Angie’s hairstylist who’s celebrity product is wine, which he advises you d’fwink responsibly Portia, Angie’s pal, whose catchphrase is “Portia reads the paper.”  Randi, a self-described Christian Illiterate

and Homonym, a gameshow where contestants have to choose which homonym is on the card. Meet or Meat, etc (It’s always the other one.)

The works that inspired King Kong

King Kong came out so long ago (1933) that the pop cultural effluvium he emerged from is downright prehistoric.

“Heu-Heu, or the Monster” (1924)

H. Rider Haggard’s seldom-read standalone Alan Quatermain novelette, Heu-Heu, the Monster, features a giant prehistoric throwback 10-foot ape for whom the local natives offered a woman, chained to a post, as a sacrifice. There is a direct reference to the legend of Andromeda.

“Isle of Sunken Gold” (1927)

A silent serial that was only recently rediscovered, it features a lost, undiscovered island in the South Seas ruled over by an ape named (get this) Kong, who is worshipped by the natives. Instead of beautiful blonde women, the Kong ape prefers offerings of gold, and is oddly, humorously human, wearing gold chains and jewelry in his greed and vanity.

Paul de Chailu’s travel guides (1861)

This is the only source that King Kong screenwriter Marian C. Cooper directly acknowledges as an influence. Explorer Paul de Chailu was the first to bring word to Europe of the existence of the gorilla, and in one part of his memoirs, he remembers meeting an especially impressive king gorilla, feared by the rest, who seemed to command the others.

You seemed to appear out of nowhere your wings folded to hide Henry as the lost boys backed away from you. “Great there are angels now too?” Emma asked rolling her eyes and lowering her sword.

“Shapeshifter and your all going to listen to me because I really don’t want to have my magic suspended again…” You groaned.

“Glad you could make the show.” Pan said from his perch on the cliff “but why would I listen to you, I rule this island and everything on it belongs to me.” You moved your wings revealing Henry who was huddled behind you.

“I have someone you all want.” You smirked now. “Now that I have everyone’s-” You were cut off this time by an arrow in your shoulder.

“What the hell!?” You glared at Snow White before pulling it out, everyone watched as your veins turned back you body expelled the poison. “That was not nice and now I’m leaving, with your grandson.”

Then you glanced at Peter and threw the arrow at him, only meaning to distract him and it worked when he looked back you were gone, Henry with you.

Requests and general question!

BOOK MEME: 15  Books /// [ Beauty Queens ] Libba Bray

“There was something about the island that made the girls forget who they had been. All those rules and shalt nots. They were no longer waiting for some arbitrary grade. They were no longer performing. Waiting. Hoping. They were becoming.  They were.”

imaginarycircus replied to your photoset “The Rimroller™ is honestly the most romantic and thoughtful gift…”

I don’t think they have these cups in the US, but I’m fairly ignorant about this stuff.

Meaning no disrespect, but I echo @itsacpsideblog#you think I would just go and make a cute post about boys in love doing ice sport without RESEARCHING IT #what kind of obsessive anxiety-prone tumblr user do you think i am????

So to quote the 2017 USA Roll up the Rim rules: “TO PLAY: Commencing on or about February 1, 2017, guests at participating Tim Hortons locations in the U.S.A. may receive one specially marked M/L/XL cup  […] Not open to residents of Rhode Island, Arizona, Hawaii, Florida, Alaska, Puerto Rico and where prohibited by law.”

There’s a shitton of Timmy’s in New York, but none, alas, in Massachusetts. (Or Rhode Island, fuck Rhode Island, apparently.) I suspect Holster would put it to use on roadies, since six of the twelve teams Samwell plays against are located in New York state. And during trips home, if he ever goes to Buffalo during Roll up the Rim season.

Nestas Court

The war with Hybern is over and no kingdom is left more destroyed than Hybern itself.

All the rulers of the lands came together to decide who would rule the island in the sea. They chose Nesta Archeron, the women of fire, who helped them win the war.

She, having burned the King of Hybern from the inside out herself, for what he did to her and her sisters.

Trusting her to rebuild the fallen kingdom into a better land. Each leader gave a gift to help her. Swords, blessings, friendships, and their best soldiers.

The twins, Cartaren and,

Marec. From the Day court, forged in sunlight and filled with the light that counters their new queen’s fire.

Areya, a daughter of one of the new mortal queens. A human raised in the corrupt court of the old queens, just as deadly and cunning as any fae.

Larena, an unlikely ally found in the war, a servant to the King of Hybern himself, who slipped them information during the war.

And Ravner, a soldier from the winter court. Filled with ice and the cold touch of death.

Together, Nesta and her mate, Cassian,

With the help of her court, will wield their queens fire to burn away the horrors of the old Hybern and smoke out the enemies they know are still there.

Her court will last thousands of years, in a new land, under a new ruler. A queen with a fire and rage that burns inside her, and a fierceness to protect those she loves, including her new kingdom.

The world will be born new. In the Court of Flames.

I have had this idea in my head for a while, I plan on writing some stuff for this, idk when though. I love Nesta with a fiery passion.

(All these pictures I got from Pintrest.None of them are mine. )
