best quality: I actually played the game in the recommended order, so Zen was my first route. And I wasn’t excited at all the first few days. But the more time passed, the better parts of his character were revealed. I think the turning points for me were: The VN that showed him as a child with his brother and the VN where he’s showing you the stars on his rooftop and telling you about his family. And I haven’t been able to let go since

I’ve known a lot of narcissistic characters in anime and games. But the way Zen was written made me see him as not the usual “narcissist wearing a mask.” Because the narcissism is still a part of who Zen is, it’s not a lie. He knows he’s hot and he’s not ashamed of it. Yes, it may be overexaggerated as a result of his circumstances with his family and to also ease his own insecurities. But the narcissistic side of Zen is as real as the insecure Zen. He’s not like Seven who hides behind a happy facade. Does that make sense?

I think the thing that drew me to Zen the most is how he kept persevering down the path of life that HE wanted even though there were so many circumstances against him. Because that’s how much he loves what he does and also wants to prove himself to the world.

He has zero support from his family, he had to resort to doing “bad things” when he was part of the gang in order to survive, he had to work jobs to support himself when he was just starting out as an actor, and often his looks are put above his actual skills (which does bother him.) I also had the impression that Zen was really lonely before he met Rika and V.

But despite all that he kept on going, and even during the game (when his circumstances have improved) he still continues to work hard.

AND Zen doesn’t let his past experiences influence his behavior. He may have insecurities and flaws, but he’s not a 100% bitter or negative person who is constantly angsting. He doesn’t demonize his family either. For the most part, Zen is the type of guy who will tell you what he thinks and feels straight up, regardless how cheesy or how petty it may seem. Maybe too straight up. Zen will make sure you know how single he is.

And that’s the kind of person I would prefer to be around in real life. Someone who isn’t constantly reveling in their bad past and is instead moving forward. Someone who is honest and will tell you what they’re thinking. And especially someone who is shameless and proud of who they are and how they feel.

And oh god I can write even more about how much he seems to really love MC in every route (except Jaehee’s) and how that ending in the Apirl Fools DLC broke me more than anything I’ve ever played because of how well written it was and how much Zen just loves you.

worst quality: He’s perfect whatchu talkin bout!?

The worst thing about Zen is that he can be extremely petty about things and is quick to jump to certain conclusions. When he doesn’t like someone, he comes off as the kind of guy who will make up like 50 different kinds of assumptions about that someone in order to justify why he doesn’t like them. Even when he barely got the chance to know them well. Remember in the Christmas DLC when he was bitter about the couples and even wanted to give such an amazing performance that will cause all the couples to break up??? All because he didn’t have a lover on Christmas. Zenny that was all adorable, but even I was close to saying “Dude, omg chill.”

And regarding the matter of “jumping to conclusions”: if you tell him you’re spending alone time with either Jumin or Seven in their respective routes, “THEY’RE GOANNA BANG” is pretty much the first thing Zen thinks of. And not gonna lie, I thought he was a bit insensitive to Jumin in Jumin’s route.

Not to mention he seems to get offended (even slightly) when you or the other RFA members aren’t on his side. Like the easiest way to break his heart is to simply stay on Jumin’s side of things, whether it be on simple opinions or actual arguments. He also has a terrible habit of trying to make normal conversations in the chat about him.

I think his bad ends also exemplify a dark side of his loyalty and love. He’s so desperate for your affection, that he’ll take all your crap and still find a reason to love you. This man won’t leave you, even if you treat him like a toy.

On the side of less serious (but still very notable and hurtful) flaws, he gets disheartened very easily and is quick to give up on hope or blame himself when something goes wrong (he treats spraining his ankle like some sort of punishment.) He’ll jump back onto his feet for sure, but when he gets into a slump, he gets into a slump. Not a characteristic worth picking on, but it’s definitely one of his more definite flaws.

ship them with: MC, in-game there’s no one else Zen can love as deeply.

brotp them with: Pretty much the entire RFA. I just want him to be loved.

I don’t ship them at all (borders on NOTP for me), but I do love Zen and Jaehee as supportive buddies. Their interactions in Jaehee’s route were sweet and Zen (along with MC of course) can provide Jaehee with the encouragement she desperately needs.

I actually like seeing Zen as the wanna-be big bro to both Seven and Yoosung, more so with the latter. He brought cookies for Seven when he went to stay at his house, and he’s not quiet about how much he worries about Yoosung and his issues with both the gaming addiction and love.

And while he and Jumin don’t get along past Zen’s route, the civil and friendly conversation they had was really sweet. I still think they’d be great as “love-hate” friends.

needs to stay away from: He desperately wants to reconnect with his family, but I wouldn’t blame him if he never wanted to see them again. Also, hey there Echo Girl.

misc. thoughts: I knew I was too deep into Zen after I got that ending in the April Fools DLC. I didn’t sob sob (though I was pretty close to crying), but I didn’t feel…Okay. It’s hard to describe, but it was like I lost someone important and suddenly I was cold. It’s a flipping dating sim!! Cheritz, why do you hurt me this way????

Another fun fact: I went into MM gunning for 707 because his personality resembled the guy I was in love with during the time the game came out. Turns out what I really needed was a guy like Zen in my life. Whoops.

anonymous asked:

Hello, may I request on how the RFA would react to more of a country girl MC who's very romantic and old fashioned? Like she invites them to a town they grew up on and such? ((If it's not too much to ask ^^

I’m sorry I took so long on this one, I’ve been really tired recently. After writing it I realised I took a kind of Hannah-Montana road? Im sorry….

  • dies inside
  • You were so!!!!!!
  • Adorable!!!!!!!
  • He was an unbelievable blushing     mess when you got all romantic on him
  • But he is the same
  • You guys have competition to     see who can be more romantic
  • He’s new at this so you win
  • When you invite him to your     home town he’s super excited
  • “MC! What’s that? Oh oh!     What’s that?”
  • “That’s… a     shop….?”
  • “Oh, yeah, I knew     that…"
  • He definitely walks hand in     hand with you
  • Kisses every few minutes
  • He’s just so unbelievably in     love with you
  • “Wait, MC do you have any     ex partners I need to know about? Do I have to fight someone?”
  • “No, no please don’t fight     anyone Yoosung”
  • “You might get hurt

  • control the gay, Jaehee
  • She is so in love with your old     fashion ways
  • And your country style
  • She tries to be romantic but     she’s kinda new to this
  • She does find you very cute
  • The easiest way to catch her     off guard is to randomly show affection verbally or physically
  • "Jaehee, I love you very     much”
  • MC stop you’ll kill her
  • You take her to your home town,     which is in a very very different setting from the cafe the two of you now     own
  • You show her all the place you     use to go as a kid, and even your old house
  • She’s happy you had a good     environment to grow up in
  • She’s also a little afraid you     might want to leave the cafe and come back here
  • You catch on very quickly
  • “I love this town, it’s my     entire childhood, but it’s in my past. And now it’s time to make new and     exciting memories, with you Jaehee! And the RFA!
  • Aaaannnddd she’s dead

  • the two of you are hopeless     romantics
  • It’s insane
  • Everyone in the RFA is sure     that the two of you provide half of the worlds romance
  • He’s fascinated by your old     fashion ways
  • While he lives more in the     present, he still loves the old-style quirks you have
  • Needless to say an on-the-rise     actor and a small-town country person are two very different people
  • But you make it work
  • Zen has shown you his life, and     his life can get a little overwhelming
  • So you return the favour by     showing him your life
  • He probably does something     strange
  • Like buy a cowboy hat and     insist on wearing it when the two of you arrive in your home town
  • Like Yoosung he asks a lot of     questions
  • He also posts a lot of pictures     to show his fans and make himself sound more educated then he actually is
  • You take him to your towns old     fashioned theatre
  • He gets super sentimental and     emotional
  • A little offended because no     one really knows who he is in your town
  • Now he is known as "MC’s     Boyfriend"

  • Jumins not the best at romance
  • Let’s be real here
  • His idea of romantic is buying     a new dress with a diamond ring to go with it
  • Kinda clashes with old fashion     idea of romance
  • However, he is thankful for the     things you do for him
  • And his mood will improve by     1000% if you do something romantic to cheer him up
  • When you take him to your home     town, you should probably get him to wear casual clothing
  • Just so he doesn’t look like a     stiff business man
  • Jumin is very cute in flannels
  • He’s very fascinated with your     town, especially the old industries that reside with in it
  • You probably have to convince     him not to buy out the land
  • He has a very relaxing time, he     feels like it’s grounded him even more to reality

  • no matter what, Saeyoung will     find a way to poke fun at everything
  • Anytime you make a mistake     he’ll say "oh, you’ll have to excuse them, they were raised in a     barn"
  • You could smack him until he     stops
  • But the easiest way to shut him     up by being super romantic
  • This boy goes red and silent
  • "Saeyoung, did you know     you’re the light of my life?”
  • “And I love you very     much”
  • “Thank you for     everything"
  • B l u s h i n g
  • If once he snaps out of it,     he’ll be just as cheesy
  • Saeran is disgusted but also     happy for his brother
  • Like Zen, he will try and find     something that is stereotypical country side
  • But he will go all out
  • You do not want to be seen with     him
  • But when you get there he is     generally happy, he gets to see everything you had as a child
  • He’s glad you had a much better     childhood than he did
  • Moved by the whole experience
  • He understands why you like     such old fashioned things more
  • He tries to fit in with his     floppy disk obsession
  • Of course, none of this will     stop him from making fun of you

Unit Song CD 2nd Series Vol.10: Trickstar Cast Interview

English lyrics are not yet up on the wiki, but I’ll eventually refer from other sources!

It’s the last installment of the interview series! Not very happy that I finished it so late but I got it all out! I’m also not sure if triple release is a good thing but I wanted to get them all out…
And woohoo for 3rd series, Knight Killers + Dead Man’s (it’s still Deadmanz to me), and the teachers’ duet!

Yoshimasa Hosoya (VA of Hokuto Hidaka)

Q: Firstly, please tell us about your impression on the songs when you first listened to them.

Hosoya: Rainbow-Colored Seasons is like a school anthem, or perhaps it sounds like songs such as Tsubasa wo Kudasai that lean slightly towards pop, a song that everyone sings in a music class at school. As for the other song, HEART→BEATER!!!!, at any rate it has high tempo, and key is also high (bitter laugh). I had a really hard time.

Twilight Fan Cast

Alright, so I read the Twilight books a few weeks ago for the first time, but I’d seen the movies before I read the books. And wow. I mean I knew those movies were bad, but I didn’t realize how bad until I read the books. I just couldn’t stand the horrible casting (especially for the vampires), so I put together a twilight fan cast (but since most of the people aren’t actresses/actors it’s more of a ‘what they would like like if they were real people’ than an actual cast for a movie). Most of them are just better looking versions of the people in the films since I think Stephanie Meyer made the actors/actresses look similar to what she pictured. I photoshopped their eyes too so you get the picture, and if this gets a lot of notes I’ll do more of the characters like the Volturi or other werewolves. Also if anyone knows of someone that they think looks more like any of the characters than the people I’ve found, message me or something because I’d love to see them (and because my fan cast is definitely not perfect)

Emmet - Matthew Noszka

With darker hair obviously since this guy is blonde. He looks older than the average high school student but he’s one of the characters described as looking to old for high school. I thought he was a better looking version of Kellan Lutz.

Rosalie - Candice Swanepoel

She looks older than the average college student, but again was described as looking too old for high school. I also thought a Victoria Secret model was perfect for Rosalie, and she kind of looks like a Barbie Doll too which is how she’s described as looking sometimes in the books.

Esme - Rachel McAdams

I browsed a few Twilight fan casts made by other people, looking for ideas, and Rachel McAdams was almost always cast as Esme, and I agree that she’d be good for the part. She’s soft enough to have a maternal feel, but also young and very pretty.

Carlisle - Julien Nettersheim

Finding the right guy to be Carlisle was really really ridiculously hard. This was one of the characters I had the hardest time finding a look alike for. I thought this guy looked like a better looking version of the guy that plays him in the movies too. (And I couldn’t photoshop the eyes on this picture, so yeah, sorry.)

Jasper - Mikkel Jensen

This one I’m pretty proud of. This guy looks almost exactly like how I pictured Jasper, especially in the black and white picture. But I found a decent picture in color too, so you could his blonde hair.

Alice - Lucy Hale

Another hard one, since I thought they did a decent job on Alice in the movies. They got the hair and the fairy-ish features right, but she still wasn’t how I pictured her. I actually went through a few different people trying to find the right haircut before anything, and ended up with my top three being Lucy Hale, Lily Collins, and Lupe Sujey  (with short black hair). Ultimately I chose Lucy Hale because she’s super pretty and very short and small, but she doesn’t look like she’s in high school and since Alice is one of the two vampires that is described as looking like she could be in high school I wish I could’ve found someone younger.

Jane - Frida Gustavsson

This one was a last minute edition because while looking for a good Bella, I came across this girl, who is almost exactly how I pictured Jane. And though I thought Dakota Fanning was one of the best actors in the movies cast for their part, this girl is prettier, and more cherubic than her.

Jacob - Michael Hudson

This guy is literally Jacob. No one can convince me otherwise.

Edward - Lucky Blue Smith

Picking an Edward was soooooooooo hard. Mostly because I had very high standards for him since Stephanie Meyer describes him so well, and as being so good looking. But, he also had to look like he was seventeen. I scrolled through so many pictures of guys with dark blonde hair, and every time at least one picture of Lucky Blue Smith showed up, but since he has platinum blond hair most of the time, I ruled him out. Until I accidentally came across a picture of him with darker hair, so I altered my search terms and found this picture of him with dark blonde/bronze hair. He’s pretty much the perfect Edward to me. There’s very little room for debate on this (but less than the guy I picked for Jacob, cause that guy is perfect.)

Bella - Isa Longwell

Last, but definitely not least, is of course Bella. Bella was by far the hardest character to find someone for, though I thought at first that she would be one of the easiest. Mostly I found her difficult because I had the idea two different people (her as a human and her as a vampire) to contend with, along with finding a girl that looked like she could be in high school. She also had to be average enough to be ignored by boys in Arizona, but pretty enough to catch Edward’s attention. And in the books Bella’s constantly saying how Edward is way too good looking for her, but Edward always tells her how she doesn’t see herself the way other people see her. So yeah, it was hard. I finally landed on a girl I know in real life but she’s a little too young, and I couldn’t find a good picture of her for you guys, she looks a lot like Isa Longwell in the first picture. My mental picture of Bella however was a girl with darker hair than Isa Longwell almost black hair, someone that is kind of a prettier younger Kristen Stewart. The top three people I ended up with were Isa Longwell, Emily Rudd, and Adelaide Kane. If you guys have someone else in mind for Bella I’d love to see them, because Isa Longwell still isn’t how I pictured Bella Swan.

And that’s it! I literally spent like two weeks tracking down all these people for you guys so I hope you enjoyed it. If this gets over like 100 notes or something I’ll do more of the twilight characters like the Volturi, werewolves, and maybe Renesme. I’ll also do other book series if you guys request them.

(Also, I have to add that I thought the guy that played Charlie in the movies was perfect for his part, and was by far the best person in the movies. And if you disagree I will fight you.)

(P.S. I made a blog just for fan casts I’m going to make for books and book series so if you want to see more like this go follow my blog @ifpeopleinbookswerereal )

The only reason [Luke Evans x Josh Gad]

I really didn’t have time to reread it, but I hope you’ll like it anyway. Happy 20th Birthday!

Tired. He was just so tired. Heavy legs, aching back and he couldn’t even bend his elbow without feeling an acute pain through all the arm.

It’s not that he didn’t like his job, it was his child dream after all. And this particular job was everything he ever hoped for. He could sing and dance, every day on set was a challenge and full of fun. And it gave him the possibility to meet fantastic people, now close friends: Emma, Dan, Josh. But if he’d had to prove the steps and the choreography of Gaston one more time, he would have killed someone and then…

“You’re doing it again”

He turned the head to look at the person standing next to him, Josh, as if he’d just noticed him being there.

“Sorry, what?”

“Luke, you’ve been staring at nothing since we stepped into the lift” said Josh, slightly touching his arm “Is everything ok?”

“Just tired, don’t you?”

“God yes! My body isn’t made for all that dancing” said Josh as the lift doors opened at their floor and they both stepped out “Sooo, I guess no watching TV together tonight?”

Luke stopped in the middle of the corridor looking oddly at him, just before gave him his usual smirk “I’m never too tired for that”. For you, I’m never too tired for you, Josh.

They finally reached Luke’s room and let themselves in, locking the door behind them in a comfortable usual silence like any other night.                                                                                                                                                     It became a sort of tradition now, hanging out together every night in their rooms, watching movies or anything crap they could find on tv, drinking a beer or two, laughing and talking about whatever came on their minds. It was the easiest feeling in the world, anything came so natural with Josh and Luke knew he couldn’t get along anymore without it, without him.

He knew, he knew he shouldn’t have fallen in love with Josh. He was married and had two daughters, two amazing daughters who adored him like a second father… No! He didn’t have to think about that, not when he knew it was impossible and Josh never felt the same way, and especially not when Josh was lying on his bed as it was the most normal thing in the world.

“So, what do you want to watch, Luke?”

“Anything you want will be just fine, I’m too tired to even try to pick something”

“Oh ok” said Josh as he turned on the TV and started zapping through channels. “No. No. I don’t like it. Nope. Boring. N…Yes! Found it! Luke, Luke! Stop everything you’re doing and come here, I chose the movie!”

Still trying to calm his mind, Luke climbed on the bed next to his Jos.. friend, next to his friend.

“What are we watching then?” he asked while Josh tilted his head to point at the screen trying to hide a not so small smirk. “Why…oh my god, are you kidding me?”

“No, you let me choose and I chose this. It’s your fault” explained Josh, as The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug was shown on the TV screen. “Now, shut up, get yourself comfortable here and enjoy your own movie”.

As Luke settled down on next to Josh, the same comfortable silence as before fell between them and with his movie in background he started to think again.

It wasn’t strange for them to spend time together just in silence and it wasn’t for certain a bad thing. They both realized that sometimes words weren’t necessary between them and they could perfectly enjoy each other company just being together, with no words and nothing to do. And that was odd, at least for him. Luke couldn’t find a person in all his life - neither friend nor relative nor boyfriend – he’d been so relaxed and had felt so at home with. Everything with Josh was so naturally and he never felt inadequate with him. Josh was pure joy, he put passion in everything he did and inspired the others to do the same. His laugh was heart-warming and not just once Luke had been breathless in his presence. He couldn’t remember when he exactly fell in love with Josh, there wasn’t a time in his memories where he didn’t love everything about him.

Suddenly, Luke was distracted from his thought by Josh resting his head on his shoulder. Even a lot of physical contact wasn’t strange for them, it was just their way to let the other know they were there for him. It didn’t certainly make things easier for Luke, though.

“You know, my daughters love this movie”

“You made your daughters watched it? They aren’t a little young for movies like that?”

“Well, they insisted so much. They wanted to watch their favourite British actor..”

“Nope, Orlando Bloom. They literally love him” grinned Josh.

“Very funny, Josh”

“But, you know” he hesitated “That’s probably one of the few thing they didn’t take from me”

Luke turned his head to look at him, only to notice that Josh wasn’t resting anymore on his shoulder, but he was now looking at him very close and with a gaze he never saw in his eyes. It was a mixed of different emotions: fear and insecurity, but also determination and something he couldn’t really permit himself to hope to see.

“What do you mean?” he found himself whispering.

“Well, Luke.. See.. The only reason I watched The Hobbit is because I like you. Really, really like you. And maybe like isn’t even the right word to express what I feel for you. I love you, Luke. And I’ve been in love with you for a long time now and I can’t really keep all this for myself now, I needed to tell you. And I’m sorry if I’m talking to much or if I ruined our friendship, cause I know you don’t feel the same things.. and I’m so sor..”

He was suddenly stopped by Luke kissing him and Josh found himself responding to the kiss almost immediately.                                 It was a sweet chaste kiss, not hiding all the feelings and the passion they felt for each other though, as they both found themselves breathless while breaking apart.

“It’s funny”

Today, we present you the first segment of a series of interviews that will feature the brains and minds behind all those wonderful analyses floating around The 100’s tumblr tag.

For our first interview, we are pleased to welcome Elizabeth, also known as the lovely @hawthornewhisperer!

We connected with Elizabeth back in May, before Season 4, Episode 12. So this a little bit of a blast from the past. Read to see how right– and wrong– we were about some speculating.

We’d like to thank Elizabeth again for her time, and the supporters of the Meta Library who encouraged us. Keep an eye out for the next interview!

Fic: Reflection

Words: 4900

Summary: Just an ordinary Friday evening in the Hummel-Hudson home or the first time Blaine sees Kurt naked by accident and then it’s time for Friday night dinner. (canon gap filler, set in the second week of Kurt’s senior year of highschool, right after 3.01). Through Kurt’s eyes. And then through Blaine’s. The exact same scenes.

Written for Prompt #9: (Canon compliant)  The same story, but told from both characters’ point of view. For example, their first kiss or their first date or the first time, but told first completely from Kurt’s POV and then from Blaine’s.

It had taken Kurt a while to get to this place. Comfortable in his body and skin in a way that he now revels in the ways he can make himself feel good. For the first time in his life (and yes, he’s only eighteen, so give him a break) he likes being naked with himself, memories of Blaine’s hands and lips on his body, his neck, his chest. Not more than that. Not yet.  But when he’s alone, naked in his room but for his t-shirt pushed up his torso, he can imagine it being more. Blaine’s hands instead of his, telling him how much he turns him on. His door is closed so he lets himself moan out loud-

“Ahhhh!” Oh my god.  “I am so sorry! Oh my-” Kurt’s hands fly over himself as he sees the tail end of Blaine running back out of his room and quickly slamming his door shut. “God.” Blaine finishes his sentence.

anonymous asked:

can you also do the same thing to Hami that you did to TVD? i know you got your anti hayley meta floating around but now you have another half season's worth of material to rip on and you've never done cami.

Well, since I now have an actual frame of reference for Hami in season 2, yes. I actually think that even in one episode I got enough of an overview to understand where their characters have gone (which is pretty much nowhere), and I honestly think that there was enough material to unpack in one episode to make up an entire criticism of their characters. (And just for those of you who don’t know, the other meta anon was referring to was an ask for an explanation as to where TVD went wrong.)

I guess the obvious place to start is Hayley. She was obviously the central figure of this episode so that makes it pretty easy to zero in on where they’ve really gone wrong with Hayley in season 2. Frankly at this point the character is so bad that it’s hard to pinpoint why she’s still failing, and it doesn’t seem like enough has even changed to compare season 1 Hayley to season 2 Hayley. However there are still some pretty glaring problems here that are easy to spot and explain.

1. Hiring Phoebe Tonkin to play Hayley. Okay, obviously I haven’t been shy about my reaction to her performance in this episode. And I really don’t get pleasure out of being that critical towards someone, but it couldn’t be clearer that Phoebe is just uncomfortably unwatchably bad. She is literally physically incapable of believably emoting and she’s drowning in the weight of the character and the performance needs that she can’t meet. Obviously this isn’t a problem that began in season 2, but it’s honestly the biggest problem with Hayley at this point because a character can’t grow and develop without an actor who make the audience believe what they’re seeing. Unfortunately Phoebe just can’t do that, so Hayley is never going to improve unless the writers magically recast her.

2. Not allowing her to grow beyond the baby mama. Look, making the baby the motivation for everything on the show is a huge problem. But it’s an exceptional problem for Hayley, because at least with the other characters we’ve seen them develop and grow beforehand. Even if Klaus and Elijah only care about the baby now we know that’s not the only thing they’ve cared about ever. In order for Hayley to grow into a remotely likable character in season 2 the writers needed to give her something that mattered outside of Hope, but they just haven’t done that. The only thing relevant about her character is something that she barely shares any screentime with and barely seems to care about when she does. The baby isn’t working as a believable motivation or development tool for the characters, and it’s the only motivation and development tool that Hayley has.

3. Making romance the singular focus of her character in the actual scenes. Hayley spends a lot of time talking about how important Hope is to her. It’s practically the only thing she ever talks about. However, the actual focus of her character’s scenes are entirely about her romantic life. She doesn’t seem to exist outside of the men that want her or need her, and to make matters worse those wants and needs are generally nonsensical and poorly explained. Elijah and Jackson love her, but we don’t know why. Klaus needs her help with Hope and to occasionally fawn over her personally, but again we don’t know why. The only relationship she even has outside of her romantic interests is with Rebekah, and that relationship doesn’t make any sense and hilariously seems to focus solely on their romantic lives or Rebekah reinforcing the “fact” that Hayley is the most important Mikaelson who ever lived for the thousandth time.

4. Keeping her a special snowflake. In this episode there were a few hollow lines regarding Hayley’s desire to be a tomboyish regular girl, the wedding isn’t her style, she’s not used to this, blah blah blah blah. Aside from the fact that she should be used to this after Klelijah keeping her in the lap of luxury for so long, it actually just reinforces her special snowflake status even more. Men shower these gifts and rewards over her and she doesn’t even want them, people fawn over her constantly without her even trying, everyone sees how extraordinary she is and just wants to share in her power without her ever having to do, say, or prove anything to anyone. She’s the tragic unloved orphan who has experienced more pain and suffering than anyone and yet everyone who meets her inexplicably showers her with praise and affection (which she is of course too demure to acknowledge and too selfless to accept). It’s not at all surprising that she’s still massively unappealing to the general audience.

5. Telling her story in the dialog instead of actually showing her experience as a character. One of the easiest ways to make a character relatable is to simply show them experiencing things the audience can empathize with, relate to, or at least understand. Now obviously most of us wouldn’t empathize with what it would be like to be a long lost werewolf queen, but if the writers would actually show Hayley’s journey at least the audience could understand it. They could gain insight to Hayley’s feelings, thoughts, and decisions, and maybe find something that they relate to in that. When you just have Klaus repeatedly telling her that she’s a queen and this is what queens do there’s nothing for anyone to connect with.

Now when it comes to Cami, it’s slightly more difficult to analyze her because she had like two scenes in this entire episode. However I think those scenes were incredibly indicative of what the writers have done and have failed to do with her character, especially in season 2.

1. Leaving her as a prop instead of making her a character. What’s fairly ironic about Cami’s situation in season 2 is that even though the writers have effectively ended Klamille for the time being Cami seems to have actually become even more of a prop to Klaus than she was in season 1. I mean, literally every aspect of her life revolves around helping a dude that isn’t even her boyfriend. She’s raising his child, she’s caring for his mentally unbalanced homicidal brother, she’s endangering herself on a daily basis for a man who she hardly has a relationship with. Aside from being grossly one-dimensional it also just doesn’t make any sense.

2. Attempting to shoehorn her into story lines where she doesn’t belong instead of just giving her a story line of her own. I mean really, why the fuck does she do anything she does? Her motivation seems to be nonexistent and her behavior makes no sense, so it’s incredibly obvious to see why the audience still hasn’t warmed to her.

3. Being noncommittal with her character. Look, I get that the writers are trying to figure out a place for her in their narrative. And I get it, Leah is actually pretty great and I can see why they don’t want to lose her. But if they ever actually want the audience to have any kind of response to her character, whether it’s good or bad, they’re just going to have to pick a fucking door. She can’t just be the chick who shows up and does whatever needs doing and disappears again when she’s not needed. In order for the audience to want to see her story there needs to be an actual story to be seen, and there’s just not.

4. Using her status as a “psychologist” as a crutch. Okay, I get it, Cami supposedly has some kind of expertise in psychology. Great, I’m with you there, I’ve got it. But she can’t just be the woman who the writers use for exposition dumps about characterization and character developments. The writers have been using Cami’s knowledge of psychology to not only excuse Cami’s lack of development as a character, they’re using it to excuse everyone’s lack of development as a character. I know that my opinion that Cami can still be salvaged is a fairly unpopular one, but I do have to admit that if the writers can’t stop using her to simply cover their bad writing then she does need to be written out, for the sake of the shows and the writers themselves.

5. Not fixing her misogyny problem. Obviously this is a point that applies to both Hayley and Cami. And while I honestly find Hayley’s misogyny to be a lot more overwhelming and problematic I actually find Cami’s to be a lot more dangerously insidious. Cami is the eternal caretaker, the sage that guides the characters on their paths to redemption and sacrifices her time, energy, and safety for the sake of others. The writers love to gloss this over as just being the ultimate spirited and kindhearted woman, but this character archetype is one of the most frustrating and dangerous archetypes in fiction. If the writers want the audience to believe that Cami is the smart, strong, fierce woman that we’re all supposed to believe that she is then she needs to start acting that way, and the writers need to stop trying to sell this idea that women’s strength is sacrificing everything they have for others. She can’t drop her entire fucking life to counsel a serial killer or care for (and possibly even die for) a baby that she doesn’t even know. She doesn’t need to be “tough” or “brave” or “strong”, she needs to be empowered, and right now she’s anything but.

54 Atomick please?

54. “May I have this dance, wife/husband?”

Mick grumbles under his breath the whole way there, scowling out of the car window at the boring landscape. Ray’s trying to ignore him to soothe his nerves, but it’s not working. Not that he‘s particularly nervous about having to pretend he’s a rich investor – his history as the CEO of Palmer Technologies has prepared him for dazzling and charming and ass-kissing. No; it’s his husband for the night that has Ray’s palms sweating and the back of his neck tingling.

He hasn’t been truly afraid of Mick Rory ever since the man carried him out of the Soviet prison like a sack of potatoes (it was only weeks after that he found out Snart had wanted to leave him there, but the pyro, reluctant to help when Ray was fighting the inmates, refused to escape without him). So Ray’s been… wary, at most, and definitely curious, for quite a while.

Nonetheless, it’s one thing to be curious and quite another to pretend that Mick is his husband. If it weren’t for Hunter’s insistence that this was the easiest way to get them both in, Ray would not have agreed. He was reluctant as it were, and Snart’s sneering didn’t help – he was grimacing sourly (enviously) all the while from his hi-tech wheelchair, obviously unhappy about being stuck on the Waverider. Ray has to wonder if Snart would be the one pretending to be married to a pyromaniac right now, had he not managed to get a nasty ankle fracture just last week in 1938.

Honestly, Ray expected Mick to put up more of a fuss. An old-fashioned I’m-not-gay freak-out was a possibility: Ray kind of thought something (or someone) would burn. But no: Mick gave him a curious once-over and shrugged, like it didn’t matter at all that Ray’s no pretty girl, capable of hanging off Mick’s arm and gazing adoringly at his manly shoulders. Or something. Not that Ray knows what kind of shoulders Mick Rory has… and if he knows, it’s only because those shoulders are kind of impossible to miss. In the tight spaces of the Waverider, that is, of course.

They’re kinda impossible to miss even now, in the tighter space of the limo, outlined in the finely-tailored suit that looks like it was created to hug Mick’s body (because it was, thanks to the 22nd century tech). The cut of the wool shows off how narrow Mick’s waist can seem when he’s not hiding his torso in that god-awful ridiculous firefighter jacket, and Ray has to actively force himself not to look.

The limo stops in front of the main entrance, all stained glass and masterful architecture, and Ray sends a quick prayer to the heavens that this building won’t be burning by the time they’re leaving. With Mick by his side, he can never be too sure.

They walk inside and pass the quick examination of their invitations – Ray glances at Mick and tries to act like he would if they actually were married, but it’s hard to imagine something that’s never happened to him, especially when Mick looks like he’s ready to find a lighter and go to town on the drapes. Ray curls his hand around Mick’s arm, and tells himself it’s only (mainly) to keep the pyro out of trouble as opposed to feeling up the bicep bulging under the fabric. Mick glances at him briefly, but other than that, he does not let on that he even feels Ray’s touch. Ray remembers overhearing Gideon about some burn scarring – maybe Mick does not actually feel his hand. Something about that thought makes Ray’s heart squeeze with sadness, so he tries to push it away and looks around, attempting to locate the woman they were sent to observe.

He spots the well-educated socialite across the room – according to Gideon, she’s in her early forties and does not attempt to mask her age: her hair is caught in a severely simple do, her dress possibly much more conservative than an event like this would permit, but Ray’s not fooled. The AI’s research packet included a rather colorful history of Ms. Burke’s preferred activities in bed, and numerous occasions she has rewarded those who have satisfied her tastes for more than one partner, plus some unabashed voyeurism. Ray shivers and hopes that there will be no need to go to such lengths tonight: but they do have to attract her attention somehow, that’s why they’re here. Ray almost wishes that it could’ve been Snart in his place – but there’s no way he’s going to let anyone on the team think that he’s not doing his best, or that he’s not an asset as valuable as any of them. No. With a determined look, Ray tugs at Mick’s arm and glances at the man: it’s funny how he never noticed they’re of height. Mick always makes himself appear more physically imposing than he actually is – a trait Ray would’ve liked to master but never did.

“May I have this dance, husband?” he asks, a smile curving up his mouth more because of his nerves than because he finds this funny. He doesn’t, not really, but he’s always had the unfortunate habit of smiling the hardest when he’s a quivering mess inside.

“I don’t dance,” Mick scowls at him, his face an affronted grimace as if Ray asked him to strip. It makes Ray blush a little, the thought as well as the indignation, because Mick knew what they were getting into here, so he has no right to protest even the simplest of tasks now. Ray wishes, once again, that it were Snart here – Mick listens to him, however reluctantly, acknowledging his authority, his logic, his leadership. Ray… he’s never been that good at leading people who don’t want to be led, people like Mick who are too hot-headed, too wild, too unpredictable. He feels heat pooling under his collar and hopes that he won’t mess up. He can’t – he refuses to be the one who ends up needing some saving, not again. Not with Mick around; the pyro never made fun of Ray for having been carried out of the gulag, but Ray still feels incompetent and judged whenever he feels Mick’s eyes on him all the way from the opposite end of the Waverider’s common area.

He turns his eyes to Mick and leans closer, so that the people around them can’t hear what he’s saying. Mick smells warm and a bit like expensive aftershave, and Ray has to swallow before he can get his voice to sound as decisive as he needs it to be.

“Yes, you do,” he whispers heatedly, mouth just inches from Mick’s ear. He hopes that it looks like he’s muttering sweet nothings to his husband, but he can’t be sure – he’s never been a great actor, especially not when it came to the matters of heart.

And since when did Mick Rory become a ‘matter of heart’ anyway?!

“You do,” Ray repeats furiously, and pushes back all the inappropriate ideas that spring up in his mind when he takes a deep breath of Mick again and feels a huge, hot palm settle lightly over his hip, “if you don’t know how, just let me lead.”

Mick’s snort is a brush of warm air over all the sensitive spots on Ray’s neck and he can’t stop the shiver that tingles down his spine.

“Not ever, Pretty.”

Ray finds himself dragged to the dance floor and the hand over his hip slides to settle at the small of his back. Normally he would protest that for an event of this magnitude and importance, one would typically keep to some boundaries, such as acceptable personal space between dancing partners – but when his chest brushes Mick’s and his fingers are wrapped tight in the pyro’s callused, solid hand, Ray forgets how to form sentences in any language known to the human race. He barely hears the music as they begin to move; it’s not the best dance he’s ever had, technically speaking, but it’s definitely among the top three most exciting ones. Exciting and terrifying, really, what with his heart hammering in his chest and reaching for the speed of light when he looks at Mick and finds the other man nearly smiling, like he knows something Ray doesn’t. It’s unsettling, but Ray’s brain clearly forgot how to be afraid of Mick Rory, because his eyes drop to the man’s lips (surprisingly full and soft-looking, now that he can study them up close) and refuse to budge.

He’s only vaguely aware when the song changes, and he barely notices Ms. Burke, their target, watching them with apparent interest. All he can truly see is Mick’s face coming closer, oh god, he isn’t- is he- and then Ray’s lips are burning with the briefest of kisses, leaving him yearning and out of balance as Mick whispers:

“Don’t make me do that again.”

Ray doesn’t know if he meant the dance or the kiss, but he sure as hell hopes it’s the former. Ray’s never been much of a waltz aficionado, after all – if, at a more convenient time, they could get back to the kissing, though… that he wouldn’t mind at all.

He takes ten seconds to count out his breaths (not his heartbeats, he can’t focus enough to count that fast) and then forcibly re-focuses his mind on the mission at hand, on the mischievous, flirty glint in the eyes of the woman weaving through the crowd to get to them. Ray’s fingers tighten around Mick’s hand, and he doesn’t even know if they never let go after the dancing or if Mick caught his hand while Ray was busy not hyperventilating, but he’s glad for the support anyway.

He can do this, and he will. And then, he’ll definitely make Mick do some things, preferably ones that won’t have a prescribed distance at all.

Carmilla S2 Post Mortem:

These past four months have been a whirlwind of meetings, losing battles with Tweetdeck, digging through the dark, dank corners of the really creepy parts of Tumblr, and general observations of the little (big show) that could.

Carmilla’s sophomore season really allowed the inherent darkness of the story to shine through. We got to see the narrative venture into exploring things that aren’t always the easiest to digest. Second acts can make or break a story, but we refused to shy away from taking risks. After all, stories that play it safe aren’t nearly as rewarding as those who dare to try something a little bit different.

And, perhaps, we fell short in some ways. This season had some of the strongest episodes we’ve ever had go from page to screen, but also a handful of the weakest. We tried all sorts of new things and pushed the limits of the medium, and certainly did not make it easy on ourselves.

Some discussion under the cut to save your dash:

Thoughts on Rogue One (includes spoilers)

(cue something I wrote a couple days ago but tried to hold off on for sake of spoilers. Hopefully the page break should be enough but please scroll through if tumblr breaks and erases it)

Alright, I want to begin with some of the problems I saw and then end with all the awesome things I saw, both in equal parts, including how I think the events of Rogue One have had a direct impact on Ben Solo/Kylo Ren which could possibly garner some mentions in the upcoming movies. And I want to make clear that I’m commenting on these problems from an objective, professional perspective- not because I dislike the movie, far from it actually. Sooo…*cracks knuckles* let’s get started-

PS: I went back through and put headers on everything because it got long and so folks can read what they want, if they want to!
