The Holy Qur'aan: Chapter 93, Surat Ad-Duhaa (The Morning Hours) -

In the name of God, the Most Kind, the Most Merciful.

  • By the morning brightness (i.e. forenoon)

  • And [by] the night when it covers with darkness,

  • Your Lord has not taken leave of you (forsaken you), [O Muhammad], nor has He detested [you].

  • And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life].

  • And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied.

  • Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge?

  • And He found you lost and guided [you],

  • And He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient.

  • So as for the orphan, do not oppress [him].

  • And as for the petitioner, do not repel [him].

  • But as for the favor of your Lord, report (i.e. proclaim!) [it].

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,

The best house among the Muslims is the one in which an orphan is treated well. The worst house among the Muslims is the one in which an orphan is mistreated. The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be in Paradise like this,” and he held his two fingers together. (i.e. in close proximity).

(Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 137, Hasan (fair) according to Al-Bukhari)

“O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah , even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.” -The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 4, Verse 135.

Uthman ibn Abu Al-‘As reported: I was in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was sitting and he turned his gaze toward the sky, then he turned back until he was facing the ground, and then he turned his gaze again. The Messenger of Allah said, “Gabriel, upon him be peace, has come to me and he has commanded me to put this verse in this place in this chapter: Verily, Allah has commanded justice and excellence and giving to relatives, and He has prohibited immorality, sin, and aggression. He admonishes you that perhaps you might remember.” (16:90)

(Musnad Ahmad 17459, Hasan (fair) according to Al-Haythami)

Ibn Al-Qayyim (rahimahullah) said, “Allah the Exalted has made clear in his law (sharia) that the objective is the establishment of justice between His servants and fairness among the people, so whichever path leads to justice and fairness is part of the religion and can never oppose it.”
