this be the "ya know reguarding kfp" ~ anon again. Ya know, if Jack Black had only brought the comedy, and hadn't done the emotional very well, I'd understand people not liking him BUT HE DID IT ALL SO WELL. it went from funny to heartbreaking in like .0003 seconds and he pulls it off. SO PERFECTLY. like ough. I'm a writer right, so like, I analyze EVERYTHING I watch, especially actors portrayals and Im real judgmental, but no where is there ever a moment where I thought "coulda been better"

Kung Fu Panda is easy to love.

Kung Fu Panda 2 is like a godsend of like

its so satisfying

theres no “I wish this” or “I wish that” or “ehh i dont like this part” its just such a good time

It lets me get REALLY invested in Po and like…they arent afraid to be dramatic with this comedy. Though I honestly think KFPs strongest points are in its drama, not its comedy.   (And its visuals holy shit tho if anything both of them are just GORGEOUS movies)

The sequel especially I felt really knew how to balance it. Im not much of a writer but I love to observe., I felt It knew when to put in the comedy and when to stop and let it be drama. And it never felt like there was too much of either.  The characters are cartoony and silly but never so much that you stop being able to relate to them. Theyre also never so serious that you stop enjoying yourself. The dramatic moments are well spread out built up and when you finally see Po reach inner peace its nothing short of intense.  A lot of the comedy takes place during action sequences and actually helps move the story along and create really exciting scenes. So it never feels like the movie derails itself to try and make a joke. So even if the jokes ARENT funny to you, you still have an action scene, the dialog continues, there’s still something going on.

I love the comedy in these movies but what makes me LOVE them love them is the drama, because it lets me get attached to the characters. I CARE about Po, I CARE about Shifu and Tigress and Mr. Ping. I’m REALLY INTERESTED in Lord Shen as a character, hes conflicted and devious and incredibly entertaining to watch.  And as an artist I am just in love with the movie visually. Awesome character design (bless you Nico Marlet), gorgeous colors with plenty of symbolism to go with it.

like years later im still noticing stuff. like how shens color is red and pos is gold.

The way they use light in the top shot and it mimics this earlier scene.

Lord Shen looming in the horizon as they approach Gongmen City

Little shit like this. I love it.
