hello! So, this is gonna be original. I study english literature and I got a blessing to write my MA paper on fanfiction. so now I need long, complex, book-like complicated ff to analyse. Any ideas? I need something GOOD, with nicely created characters and complexly created universe. preferably no to little smut bc reading with your supervisor might get a bit awkward *.* thanks in advance!

Dude that sounds super interesting! I hope the pile I’m about to shove at you is helpful

I’m going to take a break for a while,” Steve said quietly, not looking at T’Challa, not knowing that this was what he was gonna do until the words were out of his mouth. “I can’t be on a team right now.”

T’Challa nodded as if he understood. “Alright.”

He’s not the Asset. He’s not the Winter Soldier. But neither is he Bucky Barnes. With the help of Steve, Sam and the Avengers, James takes the long, slow road to recovery. Nothing is as easy as either of them thought it would be.

Effects of Obliteration by geneticallydead

“I watched a documentary on the bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima a while ago. In the blast radius, sometimes a… a person blocked the bleaching effect of the radiation. So the person was vaporized, but a shadow was left behind, on a bridge or a wall – their shape, their outline, when they were completely gone,“ Steve said. "It’s called a nuclear shadow.”

“If you’re implying the Soldier is like a nuclear shadow, then that is seriously fucking dark, man,” Sam said dryly.

OR

Before the fall of the Soviet Union, the Winter Soldier was sent to the American arm of Hydra - only there was a malfunction in the cryo-unit that meant it couldn’t be opened, and it was left, powered but abandoned, in an underground base.

25 years later, the Avengers find it.

But Steve was fine.

Sure, he hadn’t seen Bucky in months, and sometimes he was at the punching bag so long that his skin started to peel off to expose the bones of his fingers, and sometimes he couldn’t find the energy to drag himself out of bed, and sometimes he went weeks without sleeping, and sometimes he thought about throwing himself head-first off the nearest tall structure, but he was fine.

He was absolutely, perfectly, one-hundred percent, fucking fine.

Sing Me the Alphabet by thesardine

There wasn’t anything left to salvage. That’s what Fury believed. It would have been a kindness to put him down.

When SHIELD finally releases Bucky from custody, he is not the man anyone expects him to be. Steve struggles to reconcile the stranger with the man who was once his best friend, but with Hydra regrouping after the events at Triskelion, Steve is dragged back into battle when Bucky needs him the most. Meanwhile, Hydra is itching to have its prize weapon back under their control, and a devastating betrayal pits Bucky against a terrible piece of ex-SHIELD tech that threatens to destroy everything he’s struggled to rebuild. In order to survive, he must decide who he is going to be: the vulnerable Bucky Barnes or the indomitable Winter Soldier? It turns out there might not be as big a difference as everyone seems to think.

Into That Good Night by Nonymos

Steve Rogers has lived for entirely too long—long enough to see the world’s end. The heroes are gone, and the Earth is pushing what’s left of mankind towards the exit.

But when a makeshift team rises from the ashes, when a mysterious presence all but drags Steve there, he begins to think there may be hope yet. As they shoot for the stars one last time, Steve will get proof yet again that the future is nothing if not an echo of the past.

I don't think there was a tag - could you recommend any post-CW fics involving Tony (preferably where Team Cap and Team Iron Man at least start to come to terms) that doesn't either vilify Steve or require him to grovel at Tony's feet as if Tony's some innocent victim? All the post-CW ensemble fic in which Tony and Bucky meet again seems to demand punishment/penance from Steve for defending Bucky and refusing to bow to the Accords, which is just gross.

I think these shoud be what you’re looking for

The Avengers Hate Club by notebooksandlaptops

Bucky Barnes is 99% certain that if he hears one more Avengers song, it could be fatal.

He’s also 99% certain that the stranger with the bright smile and blonde hair he met at the cafe walked out of his dreams.

Starting an Avengers hate club with a man who buys you cake to combat your mental break down at hearing a stupid song one too many times seems like a fine idea, what could go wrong? It’s not like either of them knows the Avengers….or that either one of them is in the band….right?

Or

The one where Bucky falls hopelessly for Steve and starts an Avengers hate club with the lead singer of the Avengers.

I’m Your Biggest Fan by LadyAJ_13

Bucky Barnes has been Steve Rogers’ number one fan since he first appeared on ‘Take Two’, aged 12. Now Clint’s wangled meet and greet tickets for the two of them, but its not so easy to step from fantasy to reality…

Laughter Lines by gammadolphin

Bucky Barnes is a rising Hollywood star with a tragic past and a reputation for driving his bodyguards away. Steve Rogers is a veteran with the same tragic past and the need to get back out in the world. The two of them have been estranged since they were teenagers, so when Steve joins SHIELD as a bodyguard, he is less than thrilled when he finds out that Bucky is his first assignment. But how bad can it be? They’re both professional adults, right?

Wrong…

That Missing Piece by IsabellaJack

Stucky AU.

Bucky is a famous Hollywood actor whose career fizzled in the last six years. He’d been depressed not only because of that, but also because of the car accident that had cost him his left arm. He wanted to escape LA and his life. So, his agent/publicist Clint found him a quiet neighborhood in Cleveland. He didn’t know that his life would change drastically, at the hands of his neighbors, especially one named Steve Rogers.

The Steve Rogers problem by relenafanel

Bucky doesn’t consider his Steve Rogers problem as a problem so much as the solution he hadn’t realized he was hoping for to help him through the transition from the Bucky Barnes he’d been before his accident to the new, shiny version of himself.

No, the problem isn’t with Captain America and The Howling Commandos fandom.

The problem is the amount of porn Bucky managed to write and draw about Captain America before finding out that he’s less than one degree of separation away from Steve Rogers. ‘Less than’ as in he’s sitting across the table from him.

Starbucks is Canon by 74days

Bucky’s been trying to book Captain America actor Steve Rogers on his show for longer than he can remember. But when the actor does agree, he’s not expecting their first meeting to be quite so… well documented… by social media.
