Sixty years ago yesterday, #TheCaineMutiny premiered in #NYC. #HumphreyBogart, who served in the #USNavy during #WWI and loved the ocean and #sailing, relished playing #LtCmdrQueeg. The #film was a hit, finishing second at the 1954 #boxoffice to #BingCrosby’s #WhiteChristmas. #Bogie lost the #Oscar to #MarlonBrando for #OnTheWaterfront. Bogie had beaten #Brando a few years earlier, with his turn in #TheAfricanQueen besting Brando in #AStreetcarNamedDesire. This #movie inspired a young actor named Maurice Micklewhite to change his name to #MichaelCaine.

#HumphreyBogart on the set of #TheLeftHandOfGod with Director #EdwardDmytryk, who also directed #Bogie in #TheCaineMutiny, which got an #Oscar nod for #BestPicture and earned #Bogart a #BestActor nomination for his portrayal of Lt. Cmdr. Philip Queeg. Bogart would lose that year to #MarlonBrando for #OnTheWaterfront.
