Spent my Friday afternoon doing ashtanga yoga~just me and two incredibly inspiring teachers in a studio with no air conditioning in 100 degree weather + humidity. I’ve never felt so detoxed😂 So soooo grateful for this place (at The Yoga Shala Slatington)

The cool capital of Spain, chock full of some of the most unique architecture in the world by the incomparable Antoni Gaudí.

My top 3 in Barcelona:

  1. La Sagrada Familia: a literal out-loud ‘wow’ moment
  2. Exploring the Gothic Quarter and El Raval by foot: a mess of old, narrow streets, unique boutiques and tasty food
  3. An early morning walk through the Gothic Quarter to reach Ashtanga practice at Ashtanga Yoga Shala (Passeig d'Isabel)

Full itinerary:

  • Day 1: Ashtanga Mysore yoga practice at Ashtanga Yoga Shala Barcelona, lunch at Rasoterra, walking and shopping in the Gothic Quarter, Palau Güell
  • Day 2: Gaudí day: Casa Battló, Casa Mila (outside only), Park Güell, La Sagrada Familia
  • Day 3: Exploring in the Gothic Quarter, Barcelona Cathedral cloisters, Museum of the History of Barcelona, Montjuïc Castle, Mies Van Der Rohe’s Barcelona Pavillion
  • Day 4: Day trip to Montserrat
  • Day 5: Thermal bath at Aire de Barcelona, brunch at Satan’s Coffee Corner

Top food tips: Satan’s Coffee Corner for hipster coffee, vegetarian restaurant Rasoterra, donuts and chocolate at Chök

Where I stayed: an Airbnb room just off Las Ramblas, however, I wouldn’t recommend the area; it was just too much of a tourist trap. El Ravel, the neighbouring district or deeper into the Gothic Quarter and away from Las Ramblas would have been a much better choice.

It’s cold and rainy outside as well as a full moon tonight, which tends to bring out the crank and/or crazy in everyone. Few things chill me out and make me smile more than a coretastic, hip opening, spine lengthening yoga class, so join me tonight at 7:30pm for Vinyasa at Sangha Yoga Shala to do just that. And if the yoga doesn’t work, then a tiny kiss from miathepom will. 😉

Reverse Warrior, aka Viparita Virabhadrasana, is a highly beneficial pose. It opens the hips, stretches the side ribs, strengthens the legs and core. Beware of bending back too far, as although it looks pretty, it can be somewhat laborious to come out of. Triang Mukhaikapada Pashimottanasana, is a wonderful stretch for both the front and back of the legs. Part of the Ashtanga Primary Series, this pose lengthens the hamstrings and spine, as well as opens the quads and knees. Start your Thursday with me in either BK or Manhattan and begin your day your day on a high note.

Dolphin Pose, aka Forearm Downdog, is amazing shoulder and chest opener. This pose also opens the hamstrings, strengthens the forearms and relaxes the mind. Walking the feet in towards the arms and holding up one leg in downdog split is great prep for Forearm Stand. We will be exploring this pose and more in my classes today and this weekend. It’s bitterly cold outside so I’m channelling warm summer vibes into all of my classes today and this weekend. Expect to get hot and sweaty while you open your chest, hips and shoulders, lengthen your spine and strengthen your entire body. As tough as it may be, Plank Pose is unbeatable when it comes to strengthening benefits. Not only does this pose strengthen the arms and wrists, it also seriously tones the abs, back and spine. Kicking out through the heels opens the calves and engages the legs to strengthen the quads. Whenever I have a student who is having trouble mastering their Chaturanga, I recommend holding plank for at least a minute a day to help strengthen and thus achieve their goal. Join me today and this weekend to master your plank, as well as lots of other fun, strengthening and opening poses. Times and studios listed below.
