After hearing the feedback I got on the portfolio question, I decided to go on and draw some characters from existing stories, so here’s Cairon the centaur from The Neverending Story! He’s definitely not the most recognizable (in the movie he only appears for a couple seconds and as something more elvish), but his design has been one of the ones that I’ve had the most fun playing around with.

A leather-bound copy of The Neverending Story. 

I decided to make this post on the fly because I was just talking to my friend on Facebook about the book version of The Neverending Story, and it’s my favorite book of all time, so I kind of hyped myself into posting this.

But even if you can’t afford it, I still recommend at least reading a paperback copy. After I read it for the second time and realized that the entire book is a metaphor for the story-creating process, I was so impressed that it immediately shot up to my #1 favorite book of all time, beating out my previous favorite, which had been my Bible as a teenager (’White Oleander’ by Janet Fitch, in case anyone was curious).

Well.. I was planning on working on Atreyu, but ended up getting sidetracked by just how dang fun fur and teeth are. Once I started going down the thought path of how he would look and why, I was stuck. Oops!
