the-greatest-show

let’s talk about how amazing Avatar: The Last Airbender is for a second
  • Fantasy world not based on typical medieval Europe
  • Was a children’s show that openly discussed war, death and genocide
  • Had several handicapped characters, one of whom was the show’s most powerful person
  • Every single character was a person of color, drawn to represent Asian and Inuit peoples
  • Had a character story arc centered around both emotional and physical parental abuse, whose arc was about learning that they didn’t need the parent who abused them
  • Absolutely BEAUTIFUL ART STYLE AND DIRECTION
  • Three dimensional writing that rivals even most adult dramas
  • Characters dealt with sexism in society
  • Showed citizens on both sides of the war, including showing how the people in the enemy nation were merely influenced by propaganda and an oppressive regime
  • Had romances that developed overtime and actually talked about the issues of forming a relationship instead of just “and now they’re in love.”
  • Characters died. On a children’s show. Characters who you fucking knew! Who had story arcs and were their friends and were kids like them!
  • When those characters died, they left an impact. It wasn’t ignored after a few episodes, the feelings they had for these characters stayed through the entire show
  • Had environmental messages that weren’t cheesy, and they made you take the destruction of the environment seriously
  • SUPERB world building, fleshing out many cultures and histories that always felt real
  • Had a magic system that never felt like magic. It always felt natural and like a solid part of this world with rules that couldn’t be broken
  • The cute animal sidekicks weren’t just there to sell toys. They were characters who had so much emotion to them and were vital parts of the show’s dynamic. Also, the animals never talked yet somehow still portrayed an insane emotional level that some Disney films only dream of
  • Spawned a sequel series that dealt not only with sexism, but with sexuality, religion, and the benefits and dangers from the rapid progression of technology

The point is, Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the greatest shows of all time and the proof is right there

If someone walked up to you and said, “I am planning on killing you, your entire family and a significant number of the people who you know and care about,” how many of you would argue that this falls under “free speech”?

Of course you wouldn’t. You would understand that it is a threat and you would do anything you could to shut that threat down. Maybe you would file a police report, buy a gun, or fight that sonofabitch right there, or maybe you would be too afraid to do anything, but regardless of how you responded you would understand that this person needs to be stopped before he hurts you and your loved ones.

Every word from a neo-Nazi’s mouth is a threat of violence against Jewish people, Roma people and people of color and many others.

Not only is it a threat of violence, it is an active attempt to bring that violence into existence by recruiting others who will aid them in taking this violence to its greatest possible extreme.

Show the same respect for marginalized people’s rights to be protected and to defend themselves from political violence that you would expect to be shown if under threat of interpersonal violence.

okay so I just feel the need to say why Brooklyn nine nine is the best show so strap yourselves in it’s gon be long

 * first off, hella diverse cast

 * and no “token” characters there just for the sake of diversity, each character has very different personalities from each other and represent the actual population

 * despite totally different personalities they are all really good friends and care about each other so much- each character’s relationship is different and I find that beautiful

 * wE HAVE A BLACK GAY MAN IN THE HIGHEST POSITION OF POWER IN THE PRECINCT?? that’s so cool

 * amy santiago is never played off as “just Jake’s love interest/girlfriend” she has all her own plots and stories and is amazing and strong and the best

* healthy communication in amy and jakes relationship !!! making sure it doesn’t stop them from doing their job to the best of both their abilities !!!

* Terry is a very macho “man’s” man but isn’t afraid to show his feelings and it’s real nice to see them show how being emotional doesn’t make you a weak man

* the solidarity between the girls because we gotta stick together

* “I met god” “what does she look like?” “Ethnically ambiguous"

* constantly calling out the world for all it’s shit (homophobia, racism, gun laws, corruptness of the police, sexism, I cOULD GO ON)

* and now the reason I decided to make this now: THEY JUST MADE A WHOLE EPISODE ABOUT HOW BULLSHIT RACIAL PROFILING IS

* a show about cops still managed to find a way to talk about it bc they know it’s an important issue and did it in such an incredible way

* showed two sides of dealing with the situation, holts plan and terrys, and neither were ideal, both would have backlash for Terry more than the dickhead who stopped him tbh

* and showing Jake doing hella suspicious shit and not getting stopped

* oNCE AGAIN CALLING OUT THE WORLD FOR ITS SHIT

* (but this time with a whole ep not just mentions bless)

* also Jake and amy having to explain it all to Terry’s kids was v upsetting to see how scared they were at first that this would happen just because they were born as they were

* AND mentions of transphobia and telling the twins it’s okay if they don’t identify as female, what other show would

this ain’t even everything it was just getting v long BASICALLY no show is as woke as brooklyn nine nine, it’s hella funny too with great plots and ships too if that’s what you look for and everyone should watch and @ fox if you don’t renew I will fight it is better than all other shows

pasek & paul: we pitched the weirdest idea for a musical

me, looking up from where i’m seated in the literal middle of a theater-large stage while an anachronistic electro-pop opera of leo tolstoy’s war and peace is being performed with thirty seven genres of music beautifully dovetailed into a seamless production that shows the greatest depiction of the realities of searching for love & meaning when you don’t know what love & meaning are, taking centuries old words and abstract concepts and making them visceral enough for you to follow every word and sob like an infant is playing: what

Important things about Phineas & Ferb:

  • The Flynn-Fletchers being a blended family
    • they all love each other so unconditionally I’m going to cry
  • Also re: the Flynn-Fletchers, Linda and Lawrence have such a loving and healthy relationship they’re honestly #goals.
  • Dr. Doofenshmirtz being a super engaged dad and always trying to be involved in Vanessa’s life
  • Dr. Doofenshmirtz being a super loving dad despite having a horrible childhood and terrible parents
  • The fact that Isabella is Jewish comes up more than just during the obligatory mention in the Christmas special
  • The show was also so entertaining and funny and had some of the greatest comedic timing
  • Weird moments of surrealism like the giant floating baby head or the zebra that calls Candace “Kevin”
  • The songs are all catchy as hell
  • This is the greatest show ever created that is all

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus has been entertaining audiences for a long time. Its history goes back 146 years — to about the time when professional baseball emerged and before Coca-Cola was invented.

But this substantial chapter in American history comes to a close on Sunday. After years of declining ticket sales and seemingly endless conflicts with animal rights groups, Ringling Bros. will stage its final show in Uniondale, N.Y.

Ringmaster Johnathan Lee Iverson is one of hundreds of Ringling performers and crew members with extraordinary talents who will be out of a job come Monday. Recruited fresh out of college, where he’d been studying voice performance and training to be a professional opera singer, he became Ringling’s first African-American ringmaster in 1998.

“Ironically enough, I will be the very last voice in the 146-year history of this show, so I will be the last person you hear to speak of ‘The Greatest Show on Earth’ — which is a wild little paradox, to be a first and a last at the same time. I don’t know too many people who can say that, in any industry,” he says.
