yeah, i know.

but just because i posted it, doesn’t mean we should talk about it.

60s Euro-Camp, Tropi-Modernism, Militarized Babes

Tagged by dweemeister to list nine favourite films in poster form and I’ve decided to go Comedy and Crime (because, why not!).

In chronological order (which closely follows my own ranking, surprise, surprise)  are

1. The Lavender Hill Mob (1951)

2. To catch a thief (1955)

3. How to steal a million (1966)

4. Gambit (1966)

5. The Honey Pot (1967)

6. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)

7. Grosse Pointe Blank (1997)

8. Ocean’s eleven (2001)

9. Girl from Rio (2003)

1. Lady Killers and Kind Hearts and Coronets had to be chucked because that would mean just a little too much Alec Guinness

2. There’s a newer Gambit with Firth, Rickman and Diaz and I must say, I’m one of the few who seemed to have liked it

3. There’s also an older Ocean’s eleven. Surprisingly I found the newer one more to my taste.

4. Calling Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid a comedy movie is probably sacrliege but I wanted it to be on the list, cuz, it’s the only poster I actually have hanging on my wall. (The same one as in the image!)

5. The Girl from Rio I mean is the one starring Hugh Laurie as a disgruntled bank manager.

Her email is   She has a PHD in Computer science, currently teaches at Rhodes, is heavily involved in Girls Who Code, IEEE, and has just gotten back from Rio for a women is science conference.  She will be in Chicago for the next month teaching a coding class.  (which is sad for me in Memphis)

Girl from Ipanema-Stan Getz, Joao Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Astrud Gilberto-Bossa Nova Music

This song is one of the reasons men thru the decades, from all over the world, have gone to Rio Brazil.  Yes, this is an old tune from the 60’s, but still holds true today.  Carioca ladies are tan, sensual, exotic and gorgeous.
