Doing theatre is stressful, but theatre stress is a different kind of stress. Theatre stress is stress that I want; it’s stress that I crave. I thrive off of it. Theatre stress is good stress, because theatre is my passion.

Olive Alternate Epilogue

Olive Ostrovsky went home to an empty house, an uncertain future, and a well-worn dictionary - but a strange new conviction that she would be able to face all three.

Obscure Fandom Week 2011: Day 1

It’s apparently Obscure Fandom Week 2011 on Tumblr! So basically every day this week I’m going to pimp out something I love that not many people know about but need to totally get on.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a one act musical comedy conceived by Rebecca Feldman with music and lyrics by William Finn, a book by Rachel Sheinkin and additional material by Jay Reiss. The show centers around a fictional spelling bee set in a geographically ambiguous Putnam Valley Middle School. Six quirky adolescents compete in the Bee, run by three equally-quirky grown-ups.

I love this show. Relatively speaking, I know a lot of people love it too so maybe it’s not that “obscure”, but more people should totally give it a listen because it’s totally hilarious. It’s one of my favorite cast recordings to listen to entirely straight through. Also on a somewhat personal note “I Speak Six Languages” just helped me land an audition, haha. I’d definitely recommend obtaining a copy of the cast recording yourself, but for now here’s some YouTube links to some of my favorite numbers:

I Speak Six Languages” | “My Unfortunate Erection” | “Pandemonium

(Unrelated-note, no, I didn’t forget about my raffle thingy! I’ve just been ridiculously busy with school. :X I’ll announce the winners sometime this week.)
