anonymous asked:

Can you recommend some good books for someone in a slump after finishing all the Outlander books? :)

You want me to recommend books? 😍😍😍

Now, for me, recommendations kind of depend on what kind of thing you’re looking for as well as what some of your other tastes include – i.e. the Outlander series is a good starting point, but I’d need to know more of what you like to give a truly effective recommendation.

But, there are plenty of books that I can recommend generally, so…

Lenny’s Book Recommendations Masterlist

Highest recommendations are in all caps. Sorting by genre/category but in no particular order. Also including links to my reviews for the ones I have reviews for. If anyone ever feels like talking books, please, please, please don’t hesitate to drop by my inbox/chat me up. If you have questions, recommendations, etc. I am always ready to talk books.

*These are by no means the only books I recommend. If you send me a list of your 5-10 favorite books/series, I can probably give you a more specific list of recommendations (this is an open invitation to do exactly this; I love tailoring recommendations).

Update: Newest additions are bolded

Young Adult Fiction

HUNGER GAMES TRILOGY by Suzanne Collins **cannot recommend highly enough** - dystopic young adult fiction at its best

Heartless by Marissa Meyer - Queen of Hearts origin story

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer (second book is the weakest but all the rest are fantastic; Winter is my favorite) - if you like reworked fairy tales

The Selection Series by Kiera Cass (mostly just the first and fourth books though) - a bit of a The Bachelor/reality dating show but with a dash of dystopia

Graceling Trilogy by Kristin Cashore - some humans with magical/superhuman abilities; fighting against an oppressive ruler; fantasy setting

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher - intriguing narrative structure; does explore a teen’s suicide

HARRY POTTER SERIES by J.K. Rowling (cause duh) - wizard school shenanigans and defeating a dark wizard (if you aren’t already aware)

The Circle of Magic Quartet by Tamora Pierce - fantasy; four children brought up learning specific magical skill sets based on unique, elementally linked abilities

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson - teen girl’s struggles with school and friends after her rape

A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES SERIES by Sarah J. Maas *recommended to me by @bonnie-wee-swordsman/ @acotargaryen; fantasy (very sex positive); a human is brought into fae territory as war appears to be brewing and threatening her own human territory as well; as the series progresses, themes related to consent and agency grow stronger in ways that are ideal for YA audiences; Book 2 (A Court of Mist and Fury) is the best as far as both content and pacing

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard - (I’m just starting Book 2) a bit of a cross between dystopic fiction and fantasy (so right in my genre sweet spot); Silvers rule over Reds but one Red girl threatens to upset that balance

Young Adult Historic Fiction

Mine Eyes Have Seen by Ann Rinaldi - John Brown’s raid on Harper’s Ferry as experienced through one of his daughters

A Break with Charity by Ann Rinaldi - Salem witch trials through the eyes of a young woman who knows the accusers

Sisters of the Quantock Hills Quartet by Ruth Elwin Harris - four sisters (artistically inclined) deal with the trio of brothers they love as WW I impacts their lives

ANNE OF GREEN GABLES SERIES by L. M. Montgomery **not really historic fiction as it was contemporary, but SUCH an important book/series for young Lenny** - an eccentric and imaginative orphan girl is adopted by an elderly brother and sister on Prince Edward Island in the nineteenth century

Time Travelers Quartet by Caroline B. Cooney - a teen girl stumbles through time to the Victorian era where she meets a young man and gets caught up in his family’s troubles

Summer of My German Soldier by Bette Greene - a young Jewish girl encounters a young German POW during WW II

Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse - a young girl’s reminiscences of family tragedy during the Dust Bowl; presented in poems, free verse

Non Fiction

What We Talk About When We Talk About Clone Club by Gregory E. Pence - bioethics and philosophy in Orphan Black

The Romanov Sisters by Helen Rappaport - the lives of the Romanov daughters with quite a bit about their mother as well; also a lot about the family’s life under house arrest and their ultimate deaths

The Pope and Mussolini by David I. Kertzer - the relationship between the Roman Catholic Church under Pius XI and Mussolini as he rose and took power of Italy

Eats, Shoots and Leaves by Lynne Truss - humor, punctuation, and history

Science Fiction/Dystopic Fiction

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood (LOVED the adaptation; definitely recommend checking it out along with the book) - looking at women’s lives when reproduction falls under state/government control

THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER/THE PARABLE OF THE TALENTS by Octavia Butler - environmental disaster ensues and chaos reigns but Lauren finds and creates a functioning community amongst fleeing survivors sharing her new and developing religion with them

MADDADDAM TRILOGY by Margaret Atwood (I seriously need HBO to get their shit together and get moving on the adaptation of this trilogy) - the world has ended as we know it thanks to one possibly mad scientist but some of humanity survived along with the humanoid species that scientist engineered

THE FIRST FIFTEEN LIVES OF HARRY AUGUST by Claire North - some people turn out to be capable of being reborn into their same life over and over; they can affect the world around them but largely agree altering things drastically should be avoided… but not everyone is willing to follow the rules

Lilith’s Brood (the Xenogenesis Trilogy) by Octavia Butler (not going to be to everyone’s taste, even for sci fi lovers, but I just LOVE Octavia Butler) -aliens save what’s survived of the human race but seek to adapt themselves so that they can continue a new race/species with the humans; those children face trials of their own as the generations continue to develop (really good series if you’re interested in gender identity/non-binary sexuality, etc.)

Fledgling by Octavia Butler - a young surviving alien whom humans mistake for a vampire must find her way after the rest of her family are destroyed but others of her kind consider her an abomination and want her destroyed too

The Space Between the Stars by Anne Corlett - science fiction lite; a virus wipes out nearly the whole of the human race leaving the survivors scattered across space (where population and government issues had forced many to colonize) fighting to find each other and decide what their collective future should be

Vanessa and her Sister by Priya Parmar - a novel about the Bloomsbury Group, specifically Virginia Woolf and her sister, Vanessa

Poldark Series by Winston Graham - the lives and trials of a mine owning family in Cornwall in the late 18th century; social/class issues a central theme

Silence by Shusaku Endo - a 17th centuryJesuit goes to Japan to investigate apostasy of a priest there and witnesses the plight of the local Christians **I had no idea until now that Silence movie I’ve seen advertised briefly was an adaptation of this book**

THE POISONWOOD BIBLE by Barbara Kingsolver - a missionary brings his wife and four girls to the Belgian Congo in 1959 and it changes the family forever; the story is told in first person narration through each of the girls’ perspectives and is unparalleled

The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden (currently my favorite recent release recommendation) - Russian folktales are woven into a story where the traditions of the rural outskirts of society clash with the power and will of the Church

The Star-Touched Queen Series by Roshani Chokshi - the daughter of a raja is rumored to be cursed but there is one suitor who wants her and brings her to a realm she’s only heard of in stories; rooted in Indian mythology; Book 2, A Crown of Wishes follows the sister of the lead from Book 1 as she accompanies a young (and powerless) prince to the Otherworld to compete in the Tournament of Wishes

The Life and Death of Sophie Stark by Anna North - a young film maker’s life and death are told and examined by some of the people in her life: former lovers, friends, acquaintances, family

The Yard by Alex Grecian - in the wake of Jack the Ripper, the new homicide division of Scotland Yard is under scrutiny but there also appears to be someone out to kill their detectives; interesting look at the early methods of both the detectives and forensic science

Cormoran Strike Series by Robert Galbraith aka J.K. Rowling (the second is my favorite cause I read revenge tragedies in one of my grad classes) - Cormoran Strike is a private detective in desperate need of paying clients; when a young woman shows up from a temp agency determined to do more than just reception work about the same time an old friend appears looking for answers in his famous model sister’s death, things begin to change for Strike’s business prospects

The Godfather by Mario Puzo - Italian mafia battles in New York following WW II

The Shining by Stephen King - a family settle into an enormous hotel in the mountains to live as caretakers there for the winter but the hotel appears to have other plans for them and especially the gifted son

The Millenium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson (but watch out for book four; it was ghost written after Larsson’s death a few years ago and is not based on his notes for book four) - a disgraced reporter looks for a project to work on while his infamy blows over but gets dragged into a decades old case; a young hacker with her own issues with the Swedish government and social work system becomes involved too and an odd partnership is born; later the woman’s personal and family history begin to cause problems and garner the public’s attention for the wrong reasons

AND THEN THERE WERE NONE by Agatha Christie - a group of houseguests arrive at a large and secluded island home for a weekend away but their host doesn’t appear to be present and what’s more, none of them have met him or her; when people start dying, those remaining begin to suspect one another

The All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness (third book was my favorite) - a young woman who’s long denied her calling as a witch stumbles across an ancient and powerful text that just about everyone in the supernatural world (that she’s done her best to ignore) wants

The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman - a man returning to his hometown for a funeral begins to recall some strange events from his childhood and the young girl he had been friends with

THE NIGHT CIRCUS by Erin Morgenstern **going to do a reread of this sometime this year** - magicians battle with one another through proxies but those two proxies form an unexpected relationship

THE CHILD THIEF by Brom - a very dark and intriguing take on the Peter Pan story that borrows some Avalon mythology, the accompanying artwork is amazing, even in digital form

LORD OF THE RINGS by J. R. R. Tolkien (I’m not a fan of The Hobbit though) - the ring of power must be destroyed to prevent a dark lord from taking over MiddleEarth and an unassuming hobbit is entrusted with the task

The Midnight Queen by Sylvia Izzo Hunter - a (wrongfully) disgraced student of magick meets up with a professor’s daughter who longs to learn and truths begin to emerge along with powers neither understand yet

The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas - Louis XIII’s musketeers seek to protect the country and their king from the machinations of Cardinal Richelieu

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas - a young man’s life appears to be falling into place before he is falsely accused of conspiring to restore Napoleon and imprisoned for twenty years; when he escapes, he seeks revenge on those who locked him away

North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell - when a young woman’s family circumstances force them to leave their home in the southern countryside and relocate to an industrial town in the north, she becomes acquainted with one of the mill owners and the poor conditions faced by the workers and their families; romantic, socio-economic, and philosophical tensions arise

CRIME AND PUNISHMENT by Fyodor Dostoyevsky **possibly my favorite novel of all time but it’s definitely not for everyone** - a young man firmly believes that the ends justify the means, even when it comes to murder… until he tries it and finds himself wracked with guilt; can he be redeemed and if so, how?

A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens - a family is threatened by the changing tides in revolutionary Paris and they fight to escape to the safety of London

(**personally, my favorite Dickens novel is Our Mutual Friend but A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations aren’t as intimidating and are excellent for getting used to Dickens’ style**)

The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck - a family is forced off their property by the banks and circumstances during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl, so they head west where there are supposed to be plenty of jobs in California but will they survive the journey and will those jobs still be there when they and everyone else in their situation actually arrive

The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory - a novel about Anne Boleyn’s sister, Mary, who had an affair with Henry VIII first and then watched her sister’s rise and fall

It’s Halloween so here some more reads for you all.

bitchin’ witchin’ by sugamins

Min Yoongi has a rather irritating issue in his life - he’s struggling with crippling insomnia. Restless nights, lack of energy and enthusiasm, he’s starting to think that nothing can budge it. After a sudden move back down to Daegu to deal with an unexpected family event, Yoongi ends up crossing paths with a local legend.

Apparently, witches are real, and they drive vintage muscle cars…

Jimin is the new town witch, an eccentric young man that claims that he can fix his insomnia for good. That, and he’ll even throw in some dreams for free. (Rated:M)

A Familiar Occurrence by hipsterminseok

Min Yoongi is a demon that has spent an eternity avoiding any and all human contact. Despite Yoongi’s distaste of summonings as a whole, he can’t help but find the witchling that summoned him enchantingly naive. A fault of which could very well lead to Yoongi’s own demise.

blood, sweat, and shears by noveltaes (cosmiclarents)

He grabs his apron on the way and knocks twice on the door in the back of the shop as a warning and enters with bated breath.

He never knows what Yoongi is up to in here. After the chicken incident, he’d rather be safe than sorry.

the supernatural salon au that no one asked for, but I wrote anyway.

home is the sea reflected in your eyes by anyadisee

Yoongi doesn’t know what he was expecting, exactly, when Taehyung called the day before asking about the pool in his mini-greenhouse, but it certainly wasn’t this.

This being opening his door to find Taehyung and Jungkook on his porch, the former with his fist raised mid-knock even though the doorbell is right fucking there, the latter standing a few steps behind him and smiling rather sheepishly while bridal-carrying a mermaid.

A goddamn mermaid.

It is too early for this, Yoongi decides.

For Whom the Bell Tolls by Kingkiwi

Yoongi’s failure to control his magic didn’t bother him overmuch. As a child, he decided that if magical control was so difficult to learn, he’d just ignore it. Unfortunately, this leads to the life of a loner and an outcast, until one day, a smiling boy hunts him down with lunch for two and a single demand. “Let’s be friends!”

Follow The Scent of Hortensias by Sharleena

When Jimin is chosen amongst the other Flowers as the next sacrifice for the Lake Dragon, to ensure that the beast keeps their village safe for another year, Jimin is expecting a quick yet painful death.
He was not expecting to get a house. Or a courtship, for that matter.

it may be a dream (but i am yours) by sirradel

Maybe he should have never stepped through the portal to the human realm.

Maybe he should have considered the consequences before falling head over heels in love, and with a human at that.

But, when it came to Yoongi, Jimin could never say that he regretted a single thing. (Rated: M)

After being saved by a little boy when he was still a cub, Yoongi swore to become his protector. What he had not expected was to fall in love with the human he had sworn to protect. Jimin’s always been an outsider, content to do his own thing. Moving in to a new high school, a new town, he’s resigned to do the same.

It’s not until an excitable Kim Taehyung enters the picture that his future starts to change.

unirun888  asked:

Hello I've been silent reader for some time. Your theory and idea is so unique. If,I might ask? 1) What do you think about P5 Protagonist comparing from p3 and p4. Thank you

Thanks for the flowers~! I appreciate it!

Okay, now your question:

The Persona 5 protagonists strikes me, first and foremost as both, a much less and much more defined characters than the protagonists of the two previous games. Now, while that may seems like a contradiction, my judgment is this way due to the presence of the protagonist’s double life.

Joker as a normal High School student has a very defined backstory. So much is for sure. However, in terms of personality, he’s intentionally left unremarkable and difficult to notice. His design alone would belong to an NPC in every other game, not the main character. Even the narration tends to be more vague on his opinions than Yu’s or Minato’s narration: Note how he has no opinion on Tanaka’s theme tune, unlike Yu and Minato. A lot of that is due to Morgana doing a lot of the “thinking” for Joker, often leaving us in the dark regarding how he feels about specific events, when we’d have known with Yu and Minato.

Now, to western players it often seems like he has *more* personality, due to his narration being written in a first-person-perspective; however, that’s merely a translation choice. In the Japanese language, there is no such thing as “Narration POV”, so all of the protagonists’ narrations are written in exactly the same style with an entirely ambiguous point of view. Joker’s narration in Japanese reads not a single bit differently than Minato’s and Yu’s.

This, however, isn’t because Joker doesn’t have a personality; not at all. Rather, it’s used for contrast: His civilian identity is intentionally left as plain, neutral and unassuming as possible, so his “Joker” identity becomes even more striking, a symbol of him throwing off the chains of society and finally being free and unrestrained. In costume, Joker is probably the most defined protagonist in the series so far (aside from Maya Amano, perhaps): Wild, unrestrained, cocky, confident, smug. His body language alone is impressive in how much raw energy it conveys. He’s a guy who’s smirk you kinda wanna wipe off his face, while ALSO knowing you probably shouldn’t mess with him. You rarely feel as powerful, downright invulnerable, as you feel when playing a character with his amount of glowing confidence.

Minato always seemed like a snarky loner who keeps his distance from people for traumatic reasons.

Yu always seemed like a blunt, but responsible, eccentric young man who feels lonely.

Joker seems entirely bland on first glance, but is probably the wildest, most adventurous and least restrained of the bunch. Minato and Yu would both be like “Whoa.” if they got to meet him.

Why we do it: a stage managers explanation

“Why do you do it then?” you ask, and its not hard to see why you’re asking; I’ve just arrived home from an eight hour rehearsal, I’m tired, I’m grouchy, I’m pissed at at least half a dozen people, I do not sound like I’ve just come home from a job I love.  At the moment your question is enough to make me question why I do this crazy dance.

This is an explanation, to those of you who love stage managers and are kind enough to let us bitch to you, and to every stage manager who is having a bad day and questioning this crazy job we do.  This is why we do it, this is why we love it.

We do it because we feed of chaos and the energy of creation.

We do it because stepping into the theatre feels like coming home.

We do it because we got sucked into this crazy world so fast we have to stop and think to remember how it happened

We do it because there is nothing like watching a tricky opening number pull together.

or watching that young eccentric director come into his own.

or watching a problem actor become a role model.

We do it because bringing a story to life onstage is a feeling like no other.

We do it because on opening night, when the house lights dim and the curtain begins to open all the other crap melts away and the here and now is well worth all the stress

We do this horrible underpaid, overworked, crazy wonderful amazing job because we cannot imagine a life without it.  So know that even when everything seems to be going wrong the moments that make it worth it are waiting and they always come.  And know it will pull together, it always does.  We are here for a reason, we chose this for a reason, and despite what we say, we wouldn’t trade this life for the world.

Jade Harley was considered perhaps the most eccentric young member of her affluent family, and although she was liked well enough amongst her social class, her work often baffled the public. Over the past few years, she had become convinced that she could achieve atomic teletransportation, and some speculate that her frequent exposure to radiation may have made her slightly delusional.

Some mad scientist Jade, anyone?

The quiet music seems to shout into your ears but you make a note to block it out. With your two children asleep in the car, you make your way home from the shops. Your ring. It shines from it’s heavy place on your hand.

Love Of The Universe

Aries + Gemini: the young mind meets the young heart. Two eccentric, two energic souls falling for each other’s mind and self-acceptance. Aries is in love with the energy that radiates oh-so beautifully from Gemini’s voice, whereas Gemini admires the strong, unbeatable strength and power Aries was blessed with. Like one in a million. The child of passionate living meets the child of vivid thinking. Where Mercury meets Mars, there will wonders happen. May the light in you never extinct and the youth in your love never die. Aries is and Geminii knows. To the heart and the mind and a forever existing laughter.

Taurus + Cancer: “oh say, does pure affection still exist? Love made of sensibility and sensuality?”, Cancer asked her night time friend, the Moon. She laughed, knowing her naive, little heart, “Yes, my child, it does”, and she pointed to Venus her long time romance. Whenever a Taurus and a Cancer fall in love, there are roses blooming more beautifully than ever before. When beauty comes across the night sky, they stop to admire the elegance, the loveliness of it. For Venus, Moon is the most beautiful jewel they have ever seen. For there is no love blessed with so much sensual grace than this one. Your love is the stars.

Leo + Libra: where Apollo meets Aphrodite, the Gods play crazy. They shout “yes”, to the couple, and “yes”, to the love. Say, Apollo, has anyone ever admired you the way Aphrodite did? And say, Aphrodite, has anyone ever gave you a bigger heart to keep? Where justice meets generousness and pride selflessness, there will always be light and there will always be love. Leo will forever keep you warm if you, Libra, promise to be his. Give them love and admiration, and Leo will give you the world. But keep your word flaky butterfly, for are they sensitive beneath their golden mask. The king and the princess, growing to be queen.

Virgo + Pisces: innocence meets illusion and naivety dreams. Like birds caged up in mid summer, these two want to escape the harm of the world. Though Pisces is the twelfth and last sign of our circle, they symbolize not wisdom but more often youth. Has a wise person ever been a dreamer? Or a adult ever been able to flee into another world hidden within our pitiful selves? Virgo, the virgin, the pure manifestation of the Zodiac knows no bad. Though you can’t run from what does exist, you can always hide and blend out. Virgo knows that and is willing to teach Pisces. “I know how hard it is, still, we must get through this”, Virgo whispered, “and how?”, Pisces cried, “I will find a way“ and Pisces believes that. Here is the muse and the painter - the canvas and the color. Such harmony and happiness and never ending faith.

Scorpio + Capricorn: here is where we meet the dark and depth and mystery of love and life. Where the scorpion meets the sea-goat - half fish, half goat - the horned mermaid, there is a instant, almost sexual intensity. No one has ever understood the Scorpio as much as the Capricorn - no one has ever loved them like Capricorn. The scorpio, the phoenix, the spider - the mystery itself waiting to be revealed to the right person, the one. Where Pluto bumps into Saturn, there will be a heavy depth exposed to light of the stars - the two most mysterious, most dramatic jewels in our universe. Their love is undying, eternal, so dark and passionate wrapped in a black box, not passable for anyone but them. How can there be such sadness, but such hope at the same time? This love is the midnight rain and the midnight dusk. Keep your secrets and don’t tell anyone and I promise not even death will part you, as Saturn the father of time will hold onto the now, not the future and Pluto the master of destruction will keep the love alive.

Sagittarius + Aquarius: here is to the adventurer and the rebel. To the archer and the bearer. To the aiming and the knowing, to the question and the answer. Sagittarius, say has anyone ever been so blessed? How do you manage to be so lucky? The paths you follow radiate in golden light and the stars fall to your feet. Say, will you guide Aquarius through the happiness if they give you the answer to everything you ever asked? Will you gift them some luck and positivity if they keep you in their arms and on the ground? The Sagittarius will forever be fascinated by the bearer’s all-knowing nature. So quiet, yet so loud. Aquarius’ braveness and will is everything Sagittarius ever needed and aimed to be. You know who you are Aquarius, you know who you want to be - will you help Sagittarius find themselves? They have been on that road for too long, will you be their companion? Help them to tell apart right from wrong, and Sagittarius will give you a reason for why it is beautiful to questions sometimes, and let things be unknown.

To my future daughter.

You will know that your self-worth comes from within and is not determined by what you wear, how you speak, or how open you are about your sexual activities. You will know that it is YOUR life, not mine, your father’s, your teachers’, or society’s, Y O U R S. You will have all control& will make your own decisions about what makes you happy. You will know that if no one else loves you I love you and YOU will love yourself. You will walk on your imaginary runway& no one will stand in your way. Your confidence will be so high you’ll feel on the level of Beyonce. And no one, I mean N O T ONE PERSON. Will ever, be able to convince you otherwise. You, my dear child, will make it in this world so against you.

Some TAZ:(K)Nights headcanons, because these lost children technically run an entire organization now and they are going to have to do politics at some point.

  • Tom’s bar becomes a base of operations for the Beasts of the Ring, despite his protests. He just wants to run a business, but it’s so convenient to work from there. And everyone loves his drinks! His regulars slowly get used to the fact that they now drink with the City’s most notorious thieves and ruffians. The backroom is where deals happen and sometimes wanted criminals live in the cellar.
  • Tara gave him a few extra employees when he signed on, just so he could keep the place running while he trained, and now half of Tom’s staff treats him like he’s Don Corleone. He can’t make them stop kissing his hand. They refer to his solely as The Boss. Barfights have completely stopped because the new dishwasher is an ex-pitfighter with biceps bigger than some people’s heads.
  • Lenny realizes he can take advantage of his new power to make people listen to his music. Mandatory concerts ensue.
  • Tara gives them control very slowly and sporadically. Sometimes she’ll run things for weeks on her own, sometimes she’ll drop by and give them five days worth of pay chits and ask them if they want to start a gang war. (Lenny does, but he gets outvoted.)
  • Troth is more religiously observant than she is religious. Ask her about theology and she’ll be at a loss, but she says her prayers on the regular and keeps to the same strict diet and vow of poverty she was raised with.
  • She does get Tara to give her some of the proceeds of the Beasts’ work, so she can help fund some of the better charities in Underton. Then, because a lot of charities are corrupt as hell, she and Tara accidentally set up their own. They are barely talked out of building an orphanage, on the grounds that there’s no way that will end well.
  • Lenny and Troth have their own unique ways of trying to help Tom through his anxiety. Troth tries to teach him to meditate (he goes into a trance and starts screaming) while Lenny pats him on the back excessively.
  • Tara grew up surrounded by the Beasts of the Ring, she was everyone’s baby sister. Lenny was playing at the Collins bar since Tom was a tyke. There are embarrassing baby stories about both of them to spare, and Lenny and the older Beasts are all too happy to share them.
  • One time in an attempt to reassert control over the rowdier corners of the organization (who weren’t to happy about an eccentric young woman and three randos ending up in power) they planned and executed a complicated power grab that involved faking a seance with Canis, pretending Tara and Troth were dating, and the successfully convincing everyone that Lenny was a long lost scion of one of the Families. Also Tom had to wear a complicated wig. Half of it ended up being useless, but it worked really well.

Well I never meant anything negative, and now that you've pointed me in the direction of Herny, he is now becoming one of my most favourite artists. But thank you anyway, also you're art is also just outstanding.

haha i know you didn’t mean anything bad by it, i just thought it was hilarious. like i’d consider phanty even slightly more appropriate to portray sexually than casper - phanty’s adorable and has a really cute design and personality that translates really well into an adult.

i mean, i consider casper equally appropriate, but regarding marketing and design, i think you’d have to be pretty into casper as a franchise (or at least open-minded) to see what i see that makes him fun to draw in sexual situations.

like i keep waiting for someone to call me out: “casper? that little toddler lookin motherfucker?? friendly innocent pillsbury doughboy?” and I’ll have to be like “NO casper the 135-year-old pretentious intellectual and mom of the family who has an unhealthy obsession with the living!”

like typically i think when people think “casper the friendly ghost” they think:

rather than the casper i typically refer to which is:

not… to say that these are ATTRACTIVE or mature versions of casper, (dressing as holden caulfield says it all…) just examples of him thinking he’s The Coolest and being very much a psuedo-intellectual eccentric young man rather than “friendly dead toddler” lol

Come on, you can’t tell you haven’t imagined yet the Inner Circle living together and sharing apartments in New York City, can you? Because I sure as hell have. Let me show you:

  • Feyre is Rachel: it goes without saying. She has just left her fiancè Tamlin at the altar, and she has no intention of going back living with her father and her sisters. She has an art degree, never used though because Tamlin wasn’t quite sold on the idea of having a working girl as a wife, but now that she’s free she starts thinking of making good use of it.
  • Enters Mor as Monica. Mor and Feyre are childhood friends, so of course she offers Feyre a place in her apartment to stay until she finds a job, but don’t worry, girl, you can stay as long as you want!
  • Here, Feyre meets Amren (Phoebe), an eccentric young woman with a mysterious background - no one actually knows where she is from or what she does, and the stories she tells are pretty weird - that lives in the apartment next to Mor and with whom has a solid and nice friendship. She spends most of her time at Mor’s, anyway, and what do you mean you’ve never been inside her flat, Mor?
  • Rhys is Mor’s cousin, and he lives by himself in the attic - although he, too, spends a lot of his time at Mor’s or at Cassian’s. He actually owns the whole building, so nobody cares of calling him on it. He has had the longer crush on Feyre since knowing her - when Mor brought her home with her during the summer of his 5th grade, and he couldn’t help finding that little 7 years old too cute for words - and, even though she keeps on denying it, he’s firmly convinced that Mor has invited her to live together to do him a favour. Well, anyway, now they’re both single, so - who knows?
  • Cassian is Joey. A womanizer, loyal to the bone, who’s trying to become a famous actor - and failing - and that in the meantime works part-time as a self-defense instructor. Has had a little fling with Mor back in high school - they were too drunk to remember the details - and now he protects her fiercely as a sister; to his list he has recently added Amren and Feyre (although neither of them have a particular need for his help, but it’s nice knowing he has their backs if needed). He lives with Azriel in the apartment opposite of Mor’s.
  • Azriel is, of course, Chandler. Like Rhys, he has the longer crush on Mor but hardly - if not ever - acts upon it. He works for a large multi-national corporation, but he often helps Cassian with his self-defense class. When he later quits his job, Rhys recruits him to work for him - but that too, just like Amren’s past, is classified.
  • Oh, and Tamlin of course hasn’t given up on Feyre despite all, but don’t worry, Rhys and the guys has that one covered and I don’t care enough about him anyway so.

@moonstoneandjasmine tell me I’m not the only one who has sudden flashs of this Inner Circle sitcom. xD

Victorian AU

Ok, just some notes for making up my mind, and finally write at least couple of pages of fic with code work name “Ashfield”.

Late Victorian or early Edwardian era AU, dates somewhere between 1896 and 1906. So electricity and London underground are realities, but no First World war around.

Erin Gilbert:  Was famous «ghost girl» in her childhood, as she’s got ability to summon spirits and talk to dead people, but all members of her family thought that she’s just an incredible liar, whose talent can be used for making money. For getting rid of this fame and starting a normal life with a man she loved she broke with her family and also faked horrible mistakes in her séances, claiming that her gift has gone. But the one she put trust in turned to be a swindler, leaving Erin broke and pregnant on her own. To clear her name she made everyone around (including her nowadays fiancé Phil Hudson) to believe, that she’s a widow and sent her illegitimate ten-year old child to distant relatives. Teacher at finishing school.

Jillian Holtzmann: Child of quite rich North American manufacturer, has three elder sisters, for whom her father arranged a good match. For the same reason she was sent with her twin brother to London, but he caught flu on the way there and died. Not wanting to come back home to New York, Jillian hide brother’s death from father, and started claiming herself both for James and for real her. London’s upper crust think that Jillian is slowly dying of T.B., locked it her bedroom, and the only servant in the house, Kevin, isn’t smart enough for understanding why James and Jillian have never been seen in one place in the same time. Fake James is quite eccentric young man, helping father to get entry to British market. He really likes to say, that twins have soul split in two parts by the devil so he knows everything his sister knows and vise versa. Jillian uses her ability to get in both man and women parts of the houses and to find out thighs not for opposite gender ears. So her «brother» turns out a bit of a lady killer as his «sister» was told that should be said to melt a heart.

Abby Yattes: Typical spinster, never really wanted to be married, though was engaged long time ago. Secret’s keeper. Old friend of Erin, she’s the only one, who knows truth about her widowhood. She also have spiritualistic abilities but they are much weaker. In early years assisted in séances, then, after break up with Gilbert, started to practice alone, but didn’t gain even a half of acceptance, cause there are tons of table-lifting charlatans, that make shows instead of doing things right. Suffragist, couple of time was arrested for taking part in different protests, as well as attempt to enter Parliament.

Patty Tolan: worked as maid or/and housekeeper in different families, but usually get kicked out for not keeping her mouth shout, as it’s expected to be from woman of her skin colour. Self-taught polyglot and historian. Her huge family is devout catholic, but she herself is more liberal, as she has seen ghosts couple of times before in old estates and houses.

 And some scene sketches:

«There four different ways to live in the world where women are trash: let them break you, lie to them, fight back or adapt. No matter what you choose- the end would be the same. Men win. Always»

«My dearest Erin, if I did the same thing to you, you would call that harassment and slapped me.»

«-If it was possible, I’d drop on my knees and propose to you the very first day we’ve met, but…
- I don’t care about marriage.
- I got to tell you something
- Jillian, right?… –sighed she,- You’re already married.
- No…Things are much worse.
- Oh!
- It’s not what you thought about, Erin. Just let me finish, don’t run away. I’m pretty sure, that you already put one and one together.»

True albeit Strange Love

(Okay so this is a mixture of the 1960s TV series, the 1990s films and the musical)

Once upon a time in an old mansion in New York, lived a handsome, albeit eccentric young man named Gomez Addams. One day, a beautiful, pale and mysterious young woman came into his life and turned his world upside down. Her name was Morticia Frump.

Despite being engaged to her sister Ophelia in an arranged marriage, it was love at first sight for Gomez and Morticia. She loved his quirky interests and he was bewitched by her occasional slip into flawless, beautiful French. On the day Gomez was to be married to Ophelia, he instead married Morticia. (Ophelia eloped with Cousin Itt but, unfortunately the relationship was shortlived.. turns out Itt is a playboy).

That day, they became Mr Gomez Addams and Mrs Morticia Addams.

A couple of years later, their family had grown with the birth of their two children. To say that Wednesday and Pugsley were unlike any other children would be an understatement. But that is why their parents loved them.

Over the years, the Addams’ lived in blissful, macabre harmony….

However, that all changed when Daddy’s Little Ghoul, Wednesday Friday Addams… turned the dreaded age of 18. With the arrival of the estranged Beineke family, Gomez and Morticia began to question their relationship.

Seeing her daughter fall in love at such a young age, Morticia began to worry. What if they had wasted their lives? What if all the good times were behind them? What if Gomez would not find her desirable after all these years?

Luckily, Gomez Addams is not a man to let something as trivial as slight worry to put a wedge between him and his beautiful wife. He reassured her that they will be together until they die… and long after death.

All fairytales have an ending, don’t they? I’d say no in this case. It doesn’t matter whether it is the most recent

The films

Or the classics (by that i mean the tv series, no disrespect to the cartoon

The love of Gomez and Morticia Addams will be immortal. There is no ending to love such as this. And that is why I classify this is my absolute favourite couple in all of fiction.

“Are you unhappy, my darling?” “Oh yes… yes… completely”

anonymous asked:

Hi! ^u^ can I request a scenario where Claude and his s/o have their first kiss?

It’s so long, hope you like it (ノ・∀・)ノ

Living for so long in the mansion you clearly had to get used to the rules of this household, even if they still seemed unusual, and Claude made sure you were aware of that. You knew how eccentric the young lord was, how you shouldn’t pay too much attention to the three, impossibly similiar looking servans who were constantly whispering to each other, how much of a perfectionist the main butler was and how the submissive maid barely talked to you, greeting you only with silent politeness. At first you weren’t sure if you wanted to get involved in such a different group of people but eventually you did and you would be lying if you said that Claude wasn’t one of the main reasons why you were still there. There was, however, one rule which still seemed unacceptable for you, how much you wouldn’t want to admit it.

Spiders. Webs. Eight legs. And those little, shining eyes observing you from every single corner of the mansion. It had to be some kind of joke, no matter how important those creatures were for the Trancy family, keeping them all wherever they wanted to be was simply weird. For your whole life you learned that they should be thrown away from the house along the dust and damaged cutlery in case to keep it clean and tidy, as every noble deserved. And yet, the spiders seemed to be more important than many human guests who were paying a visit there, not to mention you, still feeling slightly uncomfortable whenever you spoted those two pairs of eyes staring at you. And the worst was the basement.

There wasn’t a single second when you wouldn’t feel observed, stalked even, that is why you decided to grab needed supplies Claude asked you for as fast as you could and quickly get out of there, disappearing from their sight. With a kerosene lamp in one hand, you found the flour without further troubles. The bags filled with spices caused you a little bit more problems but not as much as the jar with cranberry confiture, necessary for the meat the butler was now preparing in the kitchen. Packing everything in a small bag you turned around and wandered straight to the exit, the sound of your steps echoing in the basement.

You were almost sure that you were cursed one day because just when you stepped on the stairs, the lamp suddenly blew off leaving you in a complete darkness. Nevertheless this wasn’t the reason for giving up, not when you were almost at the ground floor so holding the bag tightly you went further, barely touching the handrail with now useless lamp in your second hand.

And you missed a step.

Maybe you would laugh at the comicality of this situation if it wasn’t you playing the main role in it. Falling down the stairs you heard the jar breaking and mentally prepared for spending more time in this hellish place, cleaning confiture off the floor. Just when you thought it couldn’t possibly get worse, you landed on the hard ground protecting your head from the impact with hands ahead which – unfortunatelly – didn’t protect you from getting your face straight in the middle of huge, sticky web, until now hanging at the base of handrail.

That was the moment when you snapped and screamed angrily. After an immediate attempt of standing up which didn’t succeed (the pain in your ankle was almost unbearable), you violently waved your arms, trying to at least get rid off the web tangled in your hair and possibly even a spider. Thick darkness around you wasn’t helping either and after wriggling for seemed like few seconds, there was a light falling on you from the doorway.

After opening the door, Claude gasped quietly. He didn’t pay attention to an ingredients scattered at the base of stairs, what caught his eye was your poor form, tangled and messy hair, panic glistening in your eyes and dress dirtied with dust. He knew there was something wrong in the moment his demonic senses let him heard a thud from the basement where he has sent you and rushed to check what was going on, a little bit worried of your health. Seemingly, he was right.

Claude sighed and didn’t say a word going down the stairs, kneeling by your side and gently picking you up, noticing your broken ankle. You were such a fragile being, just falling from few steps caused you a physical damage and made you unable to walk, having to rely on him, not that he minded. On a way to the bathroom you didn’t say a word, too ashmed of your current position and humiliating appearance, cursing yourself for your clumsiness and asking the void why couldn’t it be anyone else to find you but him? Such a perfectionist; spotless, handsome man whose soft, velvet voice made you feel butterflies in the stomach.

Slowly helping you to sit down on the bathroom’s counter, Claude locked the door and made his way toward you grabbing few towels from the shelf. You could feel the heat on your cheeks and hoped he wouldn’t notice it among all the mess you were now, when the demon kneeled in front of you and gently examined your ankle.

“Let me take care of it,” his voice was almost a whisper and yet you heard it so loudly, especially when he looked at you.

Not waiting for an answer, Claude took some bandages from the drawer and with an extraordinary precision dressed a wound. It hurt but you bite your tongue, not wanting to appear even more vulnerable than you already were.

Claude straightened up and adjusted his glasses, giving you the same, strict gaze of his golden eyes and in that moment you weren’t sure if it was caused by the impact or his presence but you felt your head spin. Even though you were sitting on a counter he was still towering over you, perfect as always.

“Thank you,” you muttered when he took a towel and wiped some dust off your cheek.

“It is my duty to take care of you.” His tone sounded almost harsh but when he leaned forward to you so your face was inches close to his, you couldn’t think about it any longer.

With gentle, slow movements, he get rid off the dust staining your cheek and forehead, still getting closer to you, clearly hearing your heartbeat getting faster and faster, blood vigorously rushing through your veins and he had to hold the smile back.

“Now, that is way better,” he commented and you could see his eyes wander upward, to your messy hair.

Claude reached to you and grabbed something, taking it off your head so you could see it. Pale, almost transparent string was trapped between his gloved fingers.

“A web,” you stated. “Was there a spider, too?”

The corners of his lips twiched in a manner of hidden smile. He leaned even closer so you felt his hot breath on your lips, gaze connected in some hypnotizing way where you simply couldn’t think about anything else than he, himself and this golden abyss of his eyes.

“No,” he whispered softly and his voice caressed your senses.

Involuntarily you closed the eyes when his warm lips brushed yours, only to kiss you tenderly after neverending second. He was so delicate, savoring the taste of your skin and soul, the hunger slowly growing at the depths of his throat, nevertheless he let your sweetness to melt on his tongue.

“There is no spider, my dear…”

This list includes 12 fics over 20k words that I’ve read for the first time in 2014. I tried to include different writers, but the main pairing is Merlin/Arthur, the fics are mostly NC-17, and they’re mostly modern AUs cause I’m a sucker for these. Remember to always comment and give kudos, enjoy!

In an attempt to distract himself (and pad his resume), he starts writing articles for one of the school newspapers. Unfortunately, he’s assigned to write about art (and one art student in particular, one that he can’t stop thinking about) even though it’s something he knows nothing about.
