the visuals in this are lovely

One of my favorite trips as a boy was to the southern parts of Escalante, Utah.  There were all sorts of vantage points and shady looking, could-be hideouts. “Threads of Gold” - Digital Oil Painting

I’ve started experimenting with adding some visual effects to my paintings, because I am obsessed with sparkle. It’s a little odd, but I kinda like how it turned out. This painting is also HUGE, so look at it in full size to see all the details!

Mama, I've been having really bad anxiety attacks and they haven't been stopping, they keep coming. Do you have any advice on how to cope or how to just calm down? Also I love you and hope you doing well!

Well, personally I always like to have something that I can play with, like a pen I can click or a rubber band I can flick. But then again I only get anxious and don’t really have anxiety attacks.

What I think is always a good thing to do is to concentrate on your breathing. Like try to even out your breath and feel the breath filling your lungs. Try to visualize how the oxygen gets exchanged with carbon dioxide. It’s a good way to find back to yourself and get your mind off the worrying thing. Another thing you can do is ask yourself “What is the worst that can happen? And is it actually rational that this happens?” as a try to get yourself back to rational thinking and to get a healthy approach to the situation. If you’re worried about stuff going wrong keep asking yourself ‘So what?’ Often you’ll find, that even if things come in pretty bad in the end of the day you can go home and relax.

Anyway here are a few sites that have some more professional tips as well (x) (x) (x

I hope any of this helps and you get better soon. I love you!

Inspired by his love of the outdoors, artist and Head Screen Printer Jonny Alexander’s work incorporates Nature, landscapes, and its objects/processes, creating large open landscapes to cross sectional terrestrial islands sometimes floating in space, surrounded by oceans, or inhabiting surreal terrains.  Devoid of humans and human interactions, his visual narratives do, however, reflect his own “existential quandaries” or spotlight the human consequences to the environment as in a 2016 mural he created with the Pangeaseed: SeaWalls Murals in New Zealand.  We’re super excited to chat with Jonny about his art school experiences, his love of the outdoors, as well as his work ethic and tenacious attitude, all in this session of Art School.

Mixed messages from guides during a reading

So when doing readings I get good feedback about accuracy BUT I am finding the messages from guides sometimes jumbled.
The person I read for can usually unjumble and rearrange it to their understanding but I’d like to know how I overcome this mixed messaging myself.

How can I get clearer messages? How can I connect deeper and see/feel better (most cues are visual or feelings)
Any other readers or spirt workers with advice would be welcome please. I love what I do but this frustrates me a little.

I love Legend Quest. The mystery, the twists, the ending were all great. But is it bad that I’m kind of disappointed that the animation (as well as the overall visuals) for the rest of the series weren’t more like they were in the theme song?

I mean, the animation in the actual series can be fluid at times. But just look at how gorgeous this is.

What attracts you to Bassnectar?

On the surface, I am obviously massively attracted to and gravitate towards the music and sound as a whole, both studio recordings and at live shows. Bassnectar’s music covers an immense spectrum of genres, sounds, and, most notably, feelings - from going bonkers and letting everything go during “Infinite” all the way to the immense personal reflection felt in “Dubuasca” - and truly encapsulates the entire “amorphous omnitempo maximalism” vibe, which I naturally adhere towards. When this music, composed with such a powerful message, intention, and meaning, is projected with enough intensity to vibrate your whole being and is combined with the fantastic light and visual show and a packed, loving crowd at a live event, it truly becomes a completely immersive event. You’re sucked in, along for the ride, and genuinely a part of the show itself. I must say, this feeling is unique to Bassnectar events and can be quite addicting too.

However, at the core of my attraction to Bassnectar is the immensely positive and powerful messages that Bassnectar and his team spread, which are then echoed by the community and passed on to the masses To me, Bassnectar is far much more than Lorin and his supporting team, but also includes the fabulous and loving community of people. Simply, this movement extends and reaches much deeper than just music and this is what continually attracts me.

How would you describe the Bassnectar Community?

In a word - dedicated. Yes, undeniably dedicated to Bassnectar events and Bassnectar tracks, Bassnectar this and Bassnectar that, but most importantly to each other. While there may be a few who are still learning the message and unfortunately stick out amongst the crowd at times, the support and care within the community for one another is overwhelming. The community as a whole is always there to support each other with resounding eagerness, passion, and genuine care when called upon. This composites one massive, loving support system - one that truly is a family. I think that’s incredibly special.

What is your favorite Bassnectar memory?

Well… while I’ve made countless Bassnectar memories at the live shows, my real favorite Bassnectar moments are actually those outside of the show aspect because they emphasize how Bassnectar, the community as a whole, and music in general truly impact and affect our lives outside of shows each and every day. I can’t single out one individually (sorry) but there are three moments that I treasure dearly and highlight the meaning of the community and family to me. The first of which was a Basshead gathering in Knoxville, TN at a local bar called Bar Marley. This is a particularly special memory to me not only for the laughter and fun we all had, but for how the numerous people I had the honor of meeting that night have turned into lasting friendships and connections that I treasure dearly.

My other favorite memories arise from the kindness of two special souls, and I cannot bare not mentioning them as they are the epitome of the love in this community and the embodiment that if you project the love within yourself out into the universe, you will receive it back many times over. Drew Pierpaoli and Lauren Kinney both gifted me one-of-a-kind, hand-made items that possess a value beyond any comprehensible measure for a material object; they are symbols of love and positivity. Both gifts overwhelmed me with love and immediately sent me leaping with joy and excitement and then straight to streams of tears because each was incredibly touching and heartfelt, and I must say, there isn’t anything that can surpass feeling overwhelmed with love.

In what ways do you like to give back to the community?

In terms of the Bassnectar and music community, I absolutely LOVE gifting. From surprising people with lockets, pins, stickers, flags, google eyes, and marbles, hardly anything can beat the feeling of making another person smile. However, with these gifts I aim to spread more than just smiles and laughs, but a message and physical reminder promoting the dispersion of love and positivity. I also adamantly aim to remind and encourage the message of the power each individual possesses to make lasting, positive changes in his/her life and others’ as “FSOSF” preaches, “You have the power to change things.” Understanding this simple message has had a profound effect on my life, and I wish for others to experience the same. These messages may not get across to all, or perhaps even most, but that’s ok; I only hope to reach a few as positivity and love begets more positivity and love, similar to the butterfly or ripple effect. Ultimately, I suppose what i give back most to the community (or attempt to at the very least) is a resounding message of personal positivity - choose love. live love. love love. be love. It all comes from within after all.

Tell us about a connection you made through the Bassnectar Community and how that person has impacted your life.

Wow… it’s almost unfair to single out one individual connection I’ve made through this wonderful community because each and every one are immensely important to me and have greatly affected my life. I have met most of my closest and dearest friends and some of the absolute most beautiful souls largely in part to Bassnectar, for which I am forever thankful. However, one relatively recent connection has had a massive and positive impact on my life, even from afar.  Through mirrored understanding, positivity, care, and support, this brilliant soul has helped me reach previously unimaginable heights of happiness, joy, positivity, sense of self, and sense of my place in this world and in the Universe. From all of these newfound heights of positivity, I now embrace every minute, every second, and every moment with endless amounts of optimism, excitement, encouragement and intent, which is then utilized to help uplift and bring positivity and smiles to more and more people each day. I have never been so immensely fascinated by another’s mind nor felt such an intense sense of inspiration and motivation for each moment of life, and I’ve honestly never been more ecstatic for what the universe has in store for the future. It’s quite a truly fantastic feeling, one that I can only compare to those felt during a Bassnectar show (particularly the Android Jones section of this past NYE 360). Therefore, I am extremely grateful for Bassnectar, this community, and our friends making this connection possible, and I am especially eternally grateful for the overwhelmingly positive impact Jenna Wing has had and will continue to have on my life.

Any studying tips? For... science let's say? (PS I love your blog+writing!!!)

Oooh, sorry, nonnie! I have no aptitude for science and haven’t taken a science class in four years. So any tips I have are pretty general.

  • Color coding! Giving your various subject/assignments/topics their own colors helps you visualize your workload so it doesn’t seem like one big massive pile. You can then look and say, “My goal is to get green done today,” and it’s more reasonable and achievable. This is something I use in my Ph.D work.
  • Regular breaks. I’m a very on-the-minute person, so usually what I do for myself when reading a lot of text is set a goal of roughly twenty pages (this is for literature, your mileage may vary depending on what you’re reading). When I reach my goal, I give myself a 5-10 minute break. Maybe I scroll tumblr a bit, or watch a single YouTube video, something like that. Then I hop back into work. Wash, rinse, repeat.
  • Make comparisons. If there’s a topic you don’t understand, try to relate it to something you do understand. When I was taking science classes in college, I remember trying to come up with a mnemonic device for mitosis by comparing it to the process of putting on a musical theatre production. It wasn’t perfect, but it did help a little.
  • Eat and drink properly. Always have water nearby while you’re studying. I’d personally avoid coffee during a study session because it keeps your brain from focusing, though if you had a cup before settling in or as a reward after, that should be fine. Fruits, granola, carrot sticks … these things will give you an energy and focus boost, so have those on hand if you’re in it for the long haul. Avoid chips or cookies, because those will slow you down and you’ll run out of steam sooner.
  • The buddy system. If you’re the kind of person who needs external motivation, sitting with someone who is also studying really helps. Even if you’re not necessarily interacting with or helping each other, just being in the same space and being focused together helps with the motivation.

That’s about all I have writing now, but I know I have a ‘studying’ tag that might have more to help. And if you want to read me griping about my own studies, you might find one or two helpful things in the ‘grad school’ tag.
