the tattooed hijabi

Hi! I have a question about wearing the hijab... so I'm white and was raised Christian but am interested in converting. Even though I don't look like the typical Muslim woman, would it still be acceptable for me to cover my head? Or would there be a negative perception of me? I know this seems like a silly question, but I want to be respectful as possible if I do decide to convert

There’s no such thing as a silly question! And honestly, there is no “right” look for wearing hijab and it also isn’t exclusive to Muslims. I know plenty of hijabi women with tattoos, hijabis who wear makeup, hijabis with piercings, etc. Hijab is about not allowing people to see what you don’t want them to. It’s about controlling your body and who you choose to share it with. That’s modesty, at least in my opinion. As for being looked down upon or anything like that for not being the stereotypical looking hijabi, please don’t let that be a determining factor in your decision. I get comments all the time about how I dress or the amount of makeup I wear with my hijab and yeah, I can see where they’re coming from, but my level of modesty is between me and God. I guess the point I’m making here is there will always be people who have something to say, but your modesty is in your hands and can only be judged by God. I wish you the best of luck and would love to answer any more questions you have about hijab or anything else or even if you just want to talk I’m here! 💕
