the swap and how they make it

anonymous asked:

If you think about it Swap is super unnecessary too, its just swapping everyone with one counterpart, thats basically just a bunch of super predictable shifts.. (serious answer: Its interesting to think about how history and characters could have changed to make the new positions make sense? And see how characters act in those situations? And Ruins!Papyrus vs King!Papyrus is a pretty big difference, as are the two Asriels and so on)

Swap makes sense…. honestly it seems to me that this is pretty much a generalized staple in any fandom xD
just like gendershifts
just like highschool au, coffeeshop au, etc lol

But the thing is with the predictability, it’s not quite that way? because there are little changes to each character in my eyes…. But yes it’s predictable, that’s what makes it enjoyable. Because people love Undertale so much…. so having an alternate view of Undertale the same way as you would traditionally but different characters that still feel the same…. It feels… comfortable?
I guess that is why I like it so much. I really like traditional Undertale a lot, it’s changed so much for me. Sometimes to the point where I don’t want to create for it simply because for me it’s something that I don’t necessarily have the power to perfectly convey ( i know this may sound ridiculous )….. Whereas with underswap it’s an au with own interpretations so while you can deviate a bit away from what it may be, it’s… in a sense…. still traditional UT?
It feels like I have a bit more freedom but i’m almost comfortable with it..

I don’t know if i’m coming across coherently, i think im going around in circles????? @w@;;

i can see how it would be interesting to shift around the other characters!! but I don’t understand the reasoning behind …. Why shift these with these when you could have done these ones?
What’s stopping you from making shifts that just don’t really make sense, etc etc

this whole discussion is making me feel dizzy xD

Rick and Morty Fandom Rant

Ok, it’s 3 am, everyone has seen the episode and I have a burning question in my soul that needs to be made for all y'all:

Ladies and Gents of Fandom, who still actually believes that Rick Sanchez is going to die of old age?

The man has been shot, dismembered, maimed, cut, bruised and lost countless bodies in the season 3 premiere that it was freaking hilarious to watch him swap around between versions of himself. No 70 year old can survive that. No fit, young person can survive that either! Also, my lovelies, he can make clones in 3 hours and control how they age! Y'all remember project Phoenix? Tiny Rick?

Does he *really* seem to be the kind of man that is going to let himself die? After all he’s been through?

Rick is the type of asshole that either goes in the blaze of glory or no deal. He’s not dying from old age.

So please. Pretty please. When y'all are writting fanfiction, remember that.

Rick Sanchez controls when he dies. Not fate or god or goddamn time. Only Rick!

We all know taako's an excellent chef no doubt, but with his rustic hospitality and whatnot, how good of a cook is Magnus?

stolen century magnus probably learned to cook decently. not that he needed to with such great chefs onboard, but maybe it was part of those jokey skill-swap years where taako was bodybuilding & he was learning magic.

post-forgetting magnus isn’t really great at cooking. he can make fried eggs or put fantasy tv dinners in the fantasy microwave. but he does help julia in the kitchen a lot! getting out ingredients, mixing, whatever needs to be done. in fact, julia isn’t even necessarily an amazing cook herself, so meals in the burnsides household are probably a cooperative effort

epilogue magnus learns to cook better. he makes meals for his dogs, usually. sometimes he invites people over for dinner and he says something like “who’s a good boy” as he serves food to people and then freezes. heck. mistake. (then he laughs and so does everyone else)

so.... minho and newt swapped roles.... any thoughts

INTERESTING!!!! im assuming ur meaning like from the book to the movie but

that does make sense tbh but theres also so much we dont know abt the third movie so im rly!! excited to see how they bring it back closer to the books (bc both wes and james have said multiple times that thats happening) so itll probably reverse again by the end, but

im kinda sad that we (presumably) dont get to see minho being an adventure action man like he is in the books as much as we could but!!! still!! that might not end up being entirely true

and tbh ill take as much newt as we can until,,, the Part

I always find it kind of weird that matriarchal cultures in fiction are always “women fight and hunt, men stay home and care for the babies” because world-building-wise, it makes no sense

think about it. like, assuming that gender even works the same in this fantasy culture as it does in ours, with gender conflated with sex (because let’s be real, all of these stories assume that), men wouldn’t be the ones to make the babies, so why would they be the ones to care for the babies? why is fighting and hunting necessary for leadership?

writing a matriarchy this way is just lazy, because you’re just taking the patriarchy and just swapping the people in it, rather than actually swapping the culture. especially when there are so many other cool things you could explore. like, what if it’s not a swap of roles but of what society deems important?

maybe a matriarchy would have hunting and fighting be part of the man’s job, but undervalued. like taking the trash out or cleaning toilets: necessary, but gross, and not noble or interesting. maybe farming is now the most important thing, and is given a lot of spiritual and cultural weight.

how would law work? what crimes would exist, and what things would be considered too trivial to make illegal? who gets what property? why?

how would religion work? how would you mark time or the passage into adulthood? what would marriage look like? if bloodlines are through the mother, bastardy wouldn’t even be a concept - how does that work?

what qualities would be most important in a person? how would you define strength or leadership? what knowledge would be the most coveted and protected? what acts or roles are considered useless or degrading?

like, you can’t just take our current society and say you’re turning it on its head when you’re just regurgitating it wholesale. you have to really think about why things are the way they are and change that

long time no art! here are some hairstyle ideas for ffxv swaps. originally started as a request for prompto styles, then i kept going c:

prom: requester specified no braids. kept the bangs the same across the board to make her a little more recognizable. spends the most time on her hair.
ignis: braids braids braids. how is her hair still straight? magic.
noct: won’t cut it ever probably. takes care of it but doesn’t do as much styling as her counterpart. layered, naturally a little wavy.

Hi, I’ve been considering starting a book in the fantasy genre. I really wanted to give some Native American representation in it, since it's something that I rarely see. However, this story wouldn't take place in America, it would be in a completely different world (though one loosely based off of earth in the 14 hundreds ish?) This is similar to your mixing cultures post, but I wanted to know: is there a good way to give Native American representation in stories that aren’t historical fiction?

Representing PoC in Fantasy When Their Country/Continent Doesn’t Exist

The core of this question is something we’ve gotten across a few different ethnicities, and it basically boils down to: “how can I let my readers know these people are from a certain place without calling them by this certain place?” Aka, how can I let people know somebody is Chinese if I can’t call them Chinese, or, in your case, some Native American nation without having a North America.

Notes on Language

As I have said multiple times, there is no such thing as “Native American culture”. It’s an umbrella term. Even if you are doing fantasy you need to pick a nation and/or confederacy.

Step One

How do you code somebody as European?

This sounds like a very silly question, but consider it seriously.

How do you?

They probably live in huts or castles; there are lords and kings and knights; they eat stew and bread and drumsticks; they celebrate the winter solstice as a major holiday/new year; women wear dresses while men wear pants; there are pubs and farms and lots of wheat; the weather is snowy in winter and warm in summer.

Now swap all those components out for whatever people you’re thinking about.

Iroquois? They live in longhouses; there is a confederacy and democracy and lots of warriors from multiple nations; they eat corn, beans, and squash (those three considered sacred and grown together), with fish and wild game; they wear mostly leather garments with furs in winter; there are nights by the fire and cities and the rituals will change by the nation (remember the Iroquois were a confederacy made up of five or six tribes, depending on period); the weather is again snowy in winter and warm in summer.

Chinese? They harvest rice; there is an emperor appointed by the gods and scholars everywhere; they use a lunar calendar and have a New Year in spring; their trade ships are huge and their resources are plenty; they live in wood structures with paper walls or mud brick; they use jade and ivory for talismans; their culture is hugely varied depending on the province; their weather is mostly tropical, with monsoons instead of snow on lowlands, but their mountains do get chilly.

You get the gist.

Break down what it is that makes a world read as European (let’s be honest, usually English and Germanic) to you, then swap out the parts with the appropriate places in another culture.

Step Two

Research, research, research. Google is your friend. Ask it the questions for “what did the Cree eat” and “how did Ottoman government work.” These are your basics. This is what you’ll use to figure out the building blocks of culture.

You’ll also want to research their climate. As I say in How To Blend Cultures, culture comes from climate. If you don’t have the climate, animals, plants, and weather down, it’ll ring false.

You can see more at So You Want To Save The World From Bad Representation.

Step Three

Start to build the humans and how they interact with others. How are the trade relations? What are the internal attitudes about the culture— how do they see outsiders? How do outsiders see them? Are there power imbalances? How about greed and desire to take over?

This is where you need to do even more research on how different groups interacted with others. Native American stories are oftentimes painful to read, and I would strongly suggest to not take a colonizer route for a fantasy novel.

This does, however, mean you might not be researching how Natives saw Europeans— you’ll be researching how they saw neighbours.

You’ll also want to look up the social rules to get a sense for how they interacted with each other, just for character building purposes.

Step Four

Sensitivity readers everywhere! You’ll really want to get somebody from the nation to read over the story to make sure you’ve gotten things right— it’s probably preferable to get somebody when you’re still in the concept stage, because a lot of glaring errors can be missed and it’s best to catch them before you start writing them.

Making mistakes is 100% not a huge moral failing. Researching cultures without much information on them is hard. So long as you understand the corrections aren’t a reflection on your character, just chalk them up to ignorance (how often do most writers get basic medical, weapon, or animal knowledge wrong? Extremely often).

Step Five

This is where you really get into the meat of creating people. You’ve built their culture and environment into your worldbuilding, so now you have the tools you need to create characters who feel like part of the culture.

You’ll really want to keep in mind that every culture has a variety of people. While your research will say people roughly behave in a certain way, people are people and break cultural rules all the time. Their background will influence what rules they break and how they relate to the world, but there will be no one person who follows every cultural rule down to the letter.

Step Six

Write!

Step Seven

More sensitivity readers! See step 4 for notes.

Step Eight

Rewrite— and trust me, you will need to. Writing is rewriting.

Repeat steps seven and eight until story is done.

Extra Notes

I’ll be honest— you’re probably going to need a certain amount of either goodwill (if you’re lucky enough to make friends within the group you’re trying to represent— but seriously, please do not make friends with us for the sole purpose of using us as sensitivity readers. It’s not nice) and/or money to get to publishing level.

The good part is the first three steps are free, and these first three steps are what will allow you to hurt others less when you approach. While you’ll still likely make mistakes, you’ll make a few less (and hopefully no glaring ones, but it can/does happen) so long as you do your due diligence in making sure you at least try to understand the basics.

And once you feel like you’ve understood the basics… dive down even deeper because chances are you’re about to reach a tipping point for realizing how little you know.

People will always find you did something wrong. You will never get culture 100% accurate— not even people who were born and raised in it will, because as I said in step five: cultures have a huge variety of people in them, so everyone will interact with it differently. But you can work your hardest to capture one experience, make it as accurate as possible, and learn more for next time.

Tips for Manifesting

Tips for Manifesting

Law of Attraction isn’t a potion or magic, it’s a way of life. You are using LOA all day every day whether you realize it or not. It’s as constant as oxygen or gravity.

Understand that LOA is a mirror that mirrors back to us what we feel and believe, NOT what we want or are asking for.

So if you are asking for a better relationship, more money, a great job, a new car or whatever - LOA will deliver to you what you BELIEVE about those things every time.

It difficult to think about what we want without also thinking about the fact that we don’t have it which keeps us from manifesting it in our lives, so often we can manifest what we want by not thinking about it at all. How? By choosing to be happy - ridiculously happy.

Below are my tips to manifest whatever it is you’re wanting to experience in your life.

  1. Meditate - DAILY
    1. Spend 15 minutes twice a day sitting quietly, undisturbed and feeling grateful for how awesome your life is.
    2. Daily meditation is not an option.
  2. Refuse to think thoughts that make you feel crappy. Do this by creating 2-3 ‘Go To Thoughts’
    1. Go to thoughts are thoughts that make you happy every time you think about them.
    2. This is easier to do when you’re a good mood. It’s damn near impossible to think of a good thought when you’re pissed off or depressed, so come up with 2-3 go to thoughts when you’re already in a good mood so you can use them later when you need them.
    3. When you catch yourself having a crappy thought, swap it out immediately for a happy go-to thought.
  3. Refuse to hang out with people that make you feel crappy.
    1. Remember that opposing energies cannot occupy the same space so if you’re around someone that makes you feel crappy, know that one of 3 things will happen every single time.
      1. Your energy will lower - making you a match to them
      2. Their energy will raise - making them a match to you
      3. One of you will leave the area - win/win
    2. LOA doesn’t make mistakes, if crappy people are consistently in your life, it’s because you’re a vibrational match to them.
  4. Know that how you feel is a DIRECT correlation to what you’re thinking about. Every time.
    1. You’re not upset or worried about what is going on in front of your eyes right this minute, you’re worried and upset about thoughts going on between your ears.
    2. Crappy thoughts = Crappy life
    3. Happy thoughts = Happy life
  5. KNOW that what you want is a done deal.
    1. Knowing is different than hoping or wishing. Hoping and wishing means you’re waiting to see it before you believe it.
    2. Knowing is believing it before you see it.
    3. Knowing what you want is a done deal is KEY to manifesting it!

septicemiiy  asked:

how long did it take to make the anti intro for pax?

For me it took about an hour with everything including set up and “make up” and swapping stuff in and out. It then took Robin like 7 hours (maybe longer) to edit it all down to what it ended up at.

It takes a LONG time to make stuff like that even though it’s only two and a half minutes long. Probably why there’s not more stuff like that :P

This “All Girls Lord of the Lies Written by 2 men because what could go wrong” nonsense is just baffling.

Like, its the same problem as American Death Note.

These stories have a very specific setting, and a very specific social context that informs that characters, plot, and themes of these works.

Lord of the Flies is about how unhealthy conceptions of White British boyhood/manhood are the underlying cause of social violence. It’s literally a novel that explores toxic white masculinity.

You can’t just gender swap the characters and just…have it be a story that makes sense? The ways in which unhealthy social dynamics manifests within groups of girls: groups of white girls, multiracial groups of girls, groups of all straight girls, groups of all cis girls, groups of girls with diverse LGBT+ status, etc, are all going to be unique and different and would have to be structured in different ways to accurately represent and comment on that social group.

And while I think that it could be interesting to see a story that DOES try to explore those themes, I absolutely do not trust two white dudes to do it.

skdjfslkdfjsdf the sonic mania vid was so damn good i’m alive!!!!!!! i live for phil having way less of a filter and dan kind of just letting him take control of the game and share his passion for it while also letting him dominate the humor with his ridiculous comments and jokes. it was just so good, so obvi i gotta share my list of Moments:

  • dan opens the vid talking about furry gateways so we already know we’re in for a ride
  • the drop-in of the clip of 2010!dnp playing sonic had me in tears within the first minute. wasn’t ready. will probably never be ready for flashbacks like that. did they watch that video back before filming? do they do that a lot? ugh.
  • dan’s ‘nu uh can’t touch this honey’ complete w feigned spank of his own ass was a thing of beauty
  • ‘i like playing tails bc it’s closer to my furs-‘ dan reaffirms his overcooked statement that the only worthwhile fursonas are wolf/dog/fox
  • dan confesses to role playing as a psychic hedgehog at age 8 and phil couldn’t care less, he just wants to play the game
  • dan also confesses he’s too young to actually remember the first sonic game and subtly glances at phil as he says it. phil says ‘i’m not’ and then just does the cutest sheepish facial expression like he’s a little wary of admitting his age here but also at the same time doesn’t actually mind too much. it’s such an interesting little moment
  • ‘so keep up, biatch,’ phil says w feeling
  • omg phil describing dan’s role: ‘you’re like … my sous chef’ and then a giggle. the joking resentment left over from the overcooked stream is actually so funny. dan’s response is so funny. i love them
  • phil: ‘just stick with me, man’ why was that hot
  • dan: ‘this is an absolutely terrible friendship experience right now’
  • dan spends nearly two minutes trying to open a conversation with phil about how he doesn’t actually think sonic is that fun to play but he keeps getting interrupted slash probs doesn’t want to offend the shit out of phil lmaooo
  • omg when they switch levels and phil is like ‘is this vaporwave or sea punk’ aka two things he probs absolutely would not give a shit about were it not for sharing his life with dan. dan starts to say ‘well they’re kind of very similar subgenres …’ and phil is having none of that and interrupts him to go ‘just give me a yes or no’ LMAO I AM LIVING SHUT HIS ASS DOWN
  • phil: ‘i want those blue balls’
  • phil: ‘i’m close. i can taste that emeraldussy’
  • they high five and it’s awk and and phil says ‘that was awk’ and dan gives him a somehow simultaneously salty and fond look and i die
  • dan: ‘you get those blue balls, phil’
  • phil: ‘i ballsed it uppppp’
  • dan is just straight admiring phil’s gaming skills and tells everyone in the audience that this is exactly what they’ve been waiting for if they’ve been wanting to see exactly how good phil is at gaming
  • dan: ‘fuck. ing. hell. for god’s sake, lester’
  • phil: ‘my spine is tingling, and not in a good way’
  • phil: ‘dan, you are. the worst fox i’ve ever met’
  • dan wants tails and sonic to make out
  • phil caves to dan’s constant attempts to turn this video into furry propaganda and admits to having a deviantart account where he draws sonic in ‘various situations.’ bless. can we launch a fandom-wide effort to track it down lmao
  • phil offers to swap roles so dan can play more and dan declines because he thinks he’s shit. but he also feels the need to clarify that phil’s only offering bc this is being filmed lmao
  • dan: ‘bona, bonus, boners’
  • 10:41 a rare whiny!phil emerges when he wants to go into the water and isn’t able to. dan immediately searches for a way down. cuteeesdjflksdf
  • a return of their mocking bro culture by yelling bruhhh in increasingly obnoxious tones and then dan interjecting ‘bros who brunch’ with no other context other than to ostensibly ridicule the concept haha
  • phil just randomly yells ‘ass!’ and dan is living, i’m living, we’re all living
  • phil’s laugh when trolling dan that the doctor’s name is simon is so fucking intensely cute i actually felt pain in my heart
  • ‘dan’s ball time’
  • phil: ‘daddy’s home’
  • phil: ‘that is very penis-y’ dan: ‘it’s a giant eggman penis … i’ve mounted the dong’ phil: ‘mount him. i’m in his butt.’ dan: ‘i’ve taken one hole damage’ have i mentioned lately how very fricking gay dan and phil sometimes are
  • phil legit has to take a moment to collect himself after they’ve finished before saying the whole thing was more relaxed than he thought it’d be. was it, phil? idk but i’m def sweating
  • they both like the same character at the end and phil asks dan if they should adopt it as their pet. dan just gives him a weird stare, and then phil amends pet to ‘caddy lad’ and i’m actually dying ahahahahaha. the caddy kink continues and the implications of them adopting/‘owning’ a caddy, the role that they’ve sexualized so much in the golf videos as being the sexy subservient cute guy who ‘carries your things’ is just so incredibly kinky lmao. if he was trying to avoid the perhaps romantic implications of their adopting a pet together then he unwittingly just said something so much worse. dan looks understandably incredibly uncomfortable and phil regrets nothing. meanwhile i regret ever stanning these guys
  • the whole ending is so rushed and awkward and full of word flubs and is basically just so appropriate for the wild shit they were on in this game. but it’s cute bc they keep giggling at each other and they’re both such absurd humans. this video was perfect

character design
kingsglaive vs final fantasy xv

Victor+Yuuri and that good ‘ol PDA

  • Yuuri is the king of sneak kisses. Victor will be reading, watching tv, or just minding his business and ‘oh hi stunning husband is kissing me.’ Sometimes it’s a quick little peck before Yuuri’s out running errands, or a “I’m bored and you’re cute” make out session.” Victor loves it.

  • They swap kisses all the time. A kiss before Yuuri is back on the ice, a “I missed you” peck when someone gets back home, the “You were gorgeous and I have to remind you how gorgeous you are” kiss over the couch.

  • Victor LOVES holding Yuuri. Usually his arm is around his shoulders or his waist while out and about. Yuuri usually just slides in closer using Victor’s pockets to warm his hands instead of his gloves.

  • Victor buys these and even though they make walking 100% harder and Yuuri’s hand sweats every time….Yuuri love them. (Yes they even have V and Y on each glove)
[Image description: 2 normal grey gloves with a third glove being made for two people to hold hands in. Each normal glove has a letter on it, M+V respectively, while the couple glove has a heart.]

  • At home Victor will just lay on top of or beside Yuuri. Yuuri just shrugs, repositions him, and then sighs when Makkachin starts whining because “No wait Dad, it was MY TURN to cuddle New Dad.”

  • Even when sleeping alone they both have a perfect husband shaped hole next to them. Sleeping on the couch usually turns into cuddling on the couch the moment the other person comes home. When apart they usually cuddle a pillow.

  • Victor LOVES being little spoon because it’s Yuuri’s arms around him while he sleeps why WOULDN’T he want that? Sometimes though, Yuuri prefers being little spoon especially when his anxiety is bad. Also when Victor grows his hair out a little bit. Yuuri has woken up with silver hair in his mouth too many times to count…he suffers for true love.

  • They’re that couple who casually rubs each other’s backs, hook pinkies, bump shoulders/hands, or (Victor since he’s taller) rest their chin on the other person’s shoulder. Yuuri especially loves holding hands since in big groups it gives him something to concentrate on.

  • Victor posts those “my husband lead me around all day” things where it’s his normal day with Yuuri holding his hand leading him on. It all gets posted to his Snapchat+Instagram.

  •  First, Yuuri guiding him towards the kitchen for breakfast, then Yuuri walking him to the rink, Yuuri leading him on the ice, Yuuri leading him to a food stand for lunch, more Yuuri leading him on ice, Yuuri leading him home, and the last image is Yuuri grinning at him with his hand out in sleep pants looking sleepy but so so SO happy.

  • Yuuri still never posts outside of a “Here’s Victor doing something really cool” or a rare selfie, but Victor’s insta…..every other post is Yuuri or Makkachin.

  • His most popular post (that is also his phone backrgound, Yuuri’s contact photo, and one day a full size poster if he had his way.) is a photo of Yuuri asleep on the couch curled around Makkachin his face buried in the dog’s fur. Victor’s flight got held up, and Victor told Yuuri to head home because the weather was getting bad, and he needed to sleep. It also has a video (for him) of him cupping Yuuri’s cheek, Yuuri nuzzling it, and half waking up before murmuring “…Vitya?”

  • Victor just really loves his husband.

  • Yuuri just really loves his husband.

Episodes of Lazytown that should have happened:

  • The kids get sucked into a video game and Pixel has to help them get out by telling them how to beat the game.
  • Robbie steals all of Sportacus’ acrobatic and athletic skill so he can’t save the day or play sports.
  • Evil Sportaclone that makes the kids hate Sportacus. (he did this with Stephanie but it would have been more effective with Sportacus)
  • A body swap episode come on everyone wanted one.
  • The plot to the unaired pilot that shit would have been funny as hell come on Magnus throw us a bone.
  • Robbie zaps the main group and they all tell each other all the negative things they think about each other. (I just really want to see Trixie kick Sportacus in the shin is that too much to ask?)
  • Robbie Rotteenager
