A short note on a difficult subject: Depression.
This is not a clinical analysis or a religious verdict. I just wanted to drop a note to everyone out there that struggles with depression, anxiety, and sadness.
You are normal. Being depressed, sad, anxious, etc. are all part of being a normal human being. You are not lacking in faith, you are not a bad person, you are not strange.
I personally have struggled with depression at various times of my life and still do until today. I just want to tell all of you that you are not alone, even though it can feel like that at times.
Improving your overall physical health, social environment, and self-image can help. Sometimes that is not enough. Just know that It is ok to take a break, to recollect your thoughts, to “do you”.
It’s nothing to be ashamed of. Personally one coping mechanism I use is to think about “good times” and then realize that any sadness or depression is simply there to ground me and create emotional equilibrium in my life, even if over the aggregate. Channeling the negative energy of any episode into a hobby, project, or just relaxation can help you remain grounded in a moment you may feel unhinged.
Being honest with yourself and others about how you feel will help you move through this episode. Don’t allow others to bully you because of how you feel. If your depression is chronic or worrying to you, please do seek help from a trusted healthcare advisor.
