The Thetis Lake Monster
Said to look like the monster from Creature From the Black Lagoon, the Thetis Lake Monster calls Thetis Lake in Vancouver Island, Canada. The creature was first spotted in 1972 when two teenage boys claimed to have been chased by a “lizard man” along the beach. One of the boys claimed his hand was cut by the creature’s claws. Police investigated but found nothing, until a few days later when the creature was spotted again on the other side of the lake. The police were taking the claims seriously until a local man reported his pet Tegu lizard had gone missing. Tegu lizards can gow up to four feet, because of the size of the lizard the police closed the case saying it was nothing more than a runaway pet lizard. After this two of the witnesses said they fabricated the story of seeing a monster. Whether they made this claim genuinely or if they said it to avoid embarrassment from being afraid of a pet lizard is unknown.
The description of the Thetis Lake monster is a 5 foot tall, silver-blue scaled bipedal lizard. It had spines on its head, claws and webbed hands. It had huge ears and the face of a monster. The most striking detail is that it was bipedal and walked like a human. The description differs greatly from a Tegu Lizard. It appears that the Thetis Lake Monster is a result of attention seeking hoaxers, but there are those who still believe it exists. The monster hasn’t been seen since 1972 and 2 out of the 4 witnesses haven’t admitted to fabricating the sighting. Is there truly a lake monster or is it an imaginary monster? Did the other two witnesses actually see the monster or did they fabricate the sighting too? If they fabricated the sighting why haven’t they come forward? If there really was a monster I doubt we’ll ever see it again. Thetis Lake has been silent since 1972.
