Wardrobe.

If you are upset, angry or uncomfortable with me over the clothes I choose to wear…

I am not the one who needs to change. But perhaps you need to reevaluate your feelings and why my personal style is contributing to your own dissatisfaction or discomfort.

Do not chastise me because I like to wear skirts and make up.
Do not rebuke my existence because I look damn good in a dress.
Do not reproach me with your concerns over my wardrobe because I do not get dressed for my day with you in mind.

You can berate me as much as you like, but I wont change.
There was a time when I had no choice but to conceal my true self to continue living alongside someone or multiple people. Thankfully, I am past that point in my life.

If you have yet to reach a point in life where you feel 100% free to be yourself, now is the time to figure out how you can change your life in a positive way that allows you such freedoms. For younger individuals, this is the hardest because all you can do is wait it out until you reach an age where your parents can no longer control you and society can’t stop you. I know what that is like, I have been there! Remember, I am only 22 years old! It wasn’t until about 3 years ago when I obtained such freedom for myself.

Never give up on yourself though.
Never forget the person you want to be when you finally get the chance to.
I sure didn’t.

If parents teach a child with any method available that the child must be

  • submissive
  • extremely obedient
  • silent about their needs
  • always content with what they get, even if it’s much less than they need
  • pleasing to everyone around them
  • giving others what they want even when it’s harmful and painful to do so
  • expecting punishment at merely displeasuring someone
  • expecting pain as soon as they don’t meet someone’s expectations
  • not good enough unless they make everyone else happy
  • putting their needs last, or not having needs at all
  • extremely grateful for every little bit of human decency they get
  • best in the world in everything, or else they’re worthless
  • recognizing that people who hurt them most likely do it unintentionally or even worse, out of love
  • accepting hurtful behaviour without calling it out, complaining about it, or even letting the perpetrator know how much they got hurt
  • extremely forgiving, to the point where they forgive without even getting an apology, or with the hurtful offense still going on
  • tolerating insults, humiliation, slurs, and hatred being directed at them
  • never showing outright anger, rage, resentment, or hold a grudge
  • never fighting for their rights
  • never refusing to do what’s asked of them
  • accepting that they might be unlovable and that nobody will ever want them

then the child is being abused. It doesn’t matter if they use violence, guilt, terror, emotional abuse, brainwashing, threats, psychological abuse, punishment, discipline, harsh language, or if they teach it all to the child politely and with explanations to why they have to be like this if they don’t wish to be a burden on society. To shape a person this way out of convenience and send them off into a world that will abuse, exploit, take advantage and destroy a person like this, is abuse. Nobody needs to be any of these things. And people who aren’t any of these things still aren’t a burden on society. Abusive parents are a burden on society, and on their own children. Children aren’t there to be controlled or used by adults. Children are humans in development. Their boundaries should not be crushed before they even have a chance to develop any.

Why is “economic freedom” always measured in how easy it is for rich assholes to own limitless property and exploit the working class by the thousands, and not in how easy it is for the average person to meet their basic necessities so they can live comfortably and happily in society?

Really makes you think. It’s almost like we live in a society where those same rich assholes control the media and dominant ideological institutions, thus constricting us to a very particular socially-constructed definition of “freedom” that benefits them materially. It’s almost like power seeks to reproduce itself or something.

I tried really hard to be happy; I swear to god I did. But, it seems, every inhale I take makes me long for the last, every broken heart I suffer through tempts me to shatter ten of those around me, and every glance at the sky reminds me of the weightlessness I lost years ago. It was so much easier when I danced through life without a second thought; when I truly could move like no one was watching. Now, I wring my hands dry of the urge to shake those with lovesick smiles lazily drawn on their faces. It takes everything in me to restrain myself from taking them by the ear and shouting.
(you fool, don’t you know that the higher the climb the harder the crash? and your wings will one day melt. and when they do, you’ll drown in the misery you’ve neglected.)

Origin companions react to a dwarf warden seeing a bird and screaming

Alistair: It takes him a moment to realize where their fear is stemming from, but once it registers with him he is a little confused. It is only when another companion points out that they’ve likely seen few if any surface dwelling creatures that he apologizes sheepishly and promises to keep them safe.

“After all, we wardens have to flock together. Get it, because birds of a feather? I’ll…just go away now.”

Morrigan: Her disinterest is clear, but unlike Alistair she at least has a quick grasp of the cause of their reaction.

“Tis merely a creature of the air, warden, and of which you will see many in your time here on the surface. Now come– we have more important matters.”

Leliana: Immediately she is alert, looking around for enemies, but once the source of their fear is uncovered she cannot help but laugh. Leliana feel’s terrible about it afterwards, of course -she was amused, not cruel- and promises to keep them safe from avian threats in the future.

“If we require a songbird I am here, What sparrow can outsing a nightengale?”

Sten: He is not impressed. Even a dwarf is many times bigger than one small songbird, and they have bigger issues to face. They are above Orzammar now– it is time to face those threats.

“Vashedan, there is no time for such foolishness. Control yourself.”

Wynne: For someone who has also lived in a controlled society for most of her life the mage understands how new sights can be frightening. Of all the companions she is the most sympatheitc, and moves to comfort without chiding.

“There now, no harm done. Just a song bird on her way to her nest. She won’t hurt you, any more than you might fall into the sky. It’s all right.”

Zevran: He finds the situation amusing, most of all because this is the Warden he could not assassinate. If any of this ever gets out he will never find work again.

“Truly, my dear warden, you continue to astonish. Darkspawn and bandits do not phase you, but a robin is fear itself. Only a shame you are not so frightened of Crows.”

Ohgren: He’s screamed right along with them, the haze of alcohol making the bird seem as frightening as the arch demon, and so is of little help.

“Damn surface vermin! By the Stone why can’t things stay rooted where they belong?!”

Loghain: He has very little comment to make, but a part of his mind is both amused and infuriated that this is what brought him down.

Things about The Giver that are really interesting

Birthmothers are looked down on at several points by society at large. Which, yeah man.

A lack of racial diversity is an indication of how dystopic things are. (They just, what, eugenics black people out if existence? Shit)

The whole question of choice vs safety and people choosing wrong.

Heterosexual pairing is state mandated and even the possibility of being queer is erased by the stirring pills. Like, people are chemically castrating themselves?!

Its a dystopia because everyone is white and in loveless straight marriages.

Dystopia but not really a sci-fi? Weird combo.

Their whole attitude about release and the way their language and the structure of society erases mourning.

Precision of language = using language to modify and control the thoughts of the citizens.

Homogyny and lack of diversity literally sucks the color out of life.

“When will Voltron show Lance and Hunk doing anything important?”

Ah, yes, I forgot the Balmera’s still under galra captivity and Coran didn’t escape his failed infiltration attempt because nobody took the time to connect emotionally with one of the locals.

Forgot that the Blue Lion was effortlessly stolen because nobody sounded the alarm or noticed the inconsistencies in Rolo’s story.

Also forgot that none of that even happened because it’s not like they left Earth or had any idea what to look for or do anything but sit and wait for the empire to come because nobody bonded with the Blue Lion or built the technology to find Blue in the first place.

Forgot the mermaid society is still being harvested by a mind-controlling giant monster.

Forgot Slav is still being tortured because it’s not like anyone had a sonic weapon that could scan an entire base or the sharpshooting skills to successfully take out the warden’s cybernetic arm without injuring Slav himself.

Forgot Pidge didn’t get that video game because it’s not like anybody was right there spending time with her, everybody was busy.

Forgot that Coran died, leaving Allura completely alone in the universe, because nobody shoved him out of the way of a bomb at great personal expense.

Forgot that Allura never escaped Zarkon’s flagship and Shiro died or was recaptured in the rescue attempt because nobody breached into the hull, saved her, and came to back Shiro up in his fight against Haggar.

Forgot they’ve never once successfully formed Voltron.

Forgot how Keith is the only one to ever show us the single-bayard socketing and they all died against the Drazil Robeast because nobody had a weapon that could fight it.

Forgot how absolutely nobody is Alfor’s successor for the Yellow Lion. Good thing that’s never going to be relevant at all!

More importantly I forgot that this is definitely not any kind of team show that has to juggle seven protagonists, there’s no such thing as slow build, and if a plot thread is not obviously central to every single episode that means it doesn’t exist.

A great deal of sarcasm aside I’m very intrigued by this method of loving a character that involves belittling or ignoring everything they’ve done and contributed to and then complaining the writers don’t give your fave anything.

My mind thinks of reality
While my heart dreams of a utopia.
They’re on opposite sides of a war
Fighting for control over me.
I wish they could meet halfway
And find harmony between their paths,
But they’re vying for sovereignty.
Maybe I never had the chance to
Make my own decisions,
Maybe I had lost my freedom long
Before I even knew I had it.
There’s no winning,
There’s no losing,
There’s my mind,
And there’s my heart.

Wonder Woman + Blame

Wonder Woman is the story of a demigoddess who wants to save the world coming to terms with why it should be saved. In hero stories, the default is always that these are innocent people and therefore they deserve to live.

But what if they’re not innocent? What if no one is.

That’s the complicating factor that Wonder Woman presents. It’s a beautiful, tragic/hopeful nod to the complex reality of war and peace. This is a long one but bear with me. I promise it goes someplace interesting.

Diana: Once I find and destroy Ares, the German armies will be freed from his influence, and they will be good men again, and the world will be better.

This is Diana’s mission statement. She believes the stories her mother told her about men’s innocent nature whole-heartedly and will do anything to return them to that state.

Diana: Who took this from your people?
Chief: [Guestures to Steve] His people.

Steve introduces himself to Diana as “one of the good guys.” But, as much as she comes to know his goodness and integrity, she also comes to know him as a liar, a killer, and a smuggler. Now he’s implicated in genocide. He’s the one of the bad guys in someone else’s story.

Luddendorf: Peace is just an armistice in an endless war.

The writers took some artistic license with this so-called quote from Thucydides, but it accomplishes two things. One, it shows that Diana has been well-tutored in ancient philosophies of war. Two, it sets up the idea of an armistice as a negative outcome of war. Since we have the benefit of history, as viewers we know the WWI Armistice is a direct cause of WWII.

Diana: They don’t deserve our help, Steve!
Steve: It’s not about deserve! Maybe we don’t! But it’s not about that, it’s about what you believe. You don’t think I get it after what I’ve seen out there? You don’t think I wish I could tell you it was one bad guy to blame? It’s not! We’re all to blame.
Diana: I am not.
Steve: But maybe I am. Please. If you believe that this war should stop, if you want to stop it, help me stop it. Right now.

This is Steve Trevor’s mission statement. He understands that people can be evil, but he still doesn’t want thousands more to die. As a soldier, he has done horrible things in this war and others. He has perpetuated the endless fighting — an inch gained in WWI is two inches that have to be reclaimed. And yet. This war has to stop, and Steve will do anything in his limited power to stop it.

Chief: [Looking at the aircraft] What is it?
Steve: The future.

Steve looks at the plane full of explosive chemicals and describes it as, “The future.” The future holds more horrors than even The War to End all Wars imagined. He knows this. But he still believes in sacrificing his life to save today. To save the very people who will use these kinds of weapons in the future. That is goddamn tragic and beautiful and unsettling.

Ares: They start these wars on their own. All I do is orchestrate an armistice that I know they cannot keep in the hopes that they will destroy themselves. But it has never been enough. Until you.

Ares is not responsible for WWI. I don’t understand the confusion around this because the screenwriters say it blatantly. Diana is right that Ares is involved, but he is “not who [she] thought [he] was.” He isn’t to blame. He isn’t a mind-controller; he’s a whisperer. He hasn’t infiltrated human society to become an emperor, only an advisor. Humans are to blame, and humans will be their own undoing. Ares is trying to prove himself right, so, of course, he wouldn’t directly intervene whether or not he could.

Ares: Yes, Diana! Take them all! Finally, you see. Look at this world. Mankind did this. Not me! They are ugly, filled with hatred. Weak! Just like your Captain Trevor, gone and left you nothing. Pathetic He deserved to burn.

Diana suffers loss, and she strikes out — a vengeful god. Ares is gleeful. He has to undermine what Steve means to her so that she will complete her transformation into Destroyer God, Hater of Humans. That, of course, pisses her off. So he tries another tact. Nevermind Steve, what about the worse possible vision of humanity?

Ares: Look at her [Maru] and tell me I’m wrong! She is the perfect example of these humans and unworthy of your sympathy in every way. You know that she deserves it. They all do. Do it!

A woman who kills in horrific ways for pleasure. Someone who poisoned herself, mind, body, and soul. She does deserve to die. She’s a psychopath with no redeeming qualities (props to the actress, though, for her epic villain laugh). And yet Diana chooses not to destroy her.

Now, Diana does kill. It’s part of her character. But she does not kill when she doesn’t have to. If she were in a dire situation where Maru has to be killed to save others, you betcha she’s going down. But Ares is asking Diana to be judge, jury, and executioner. The thing is, she can be. She is not to blame. But she won’t. Because Steve, her representative of humanity, loves her and believes she can save the world. It’s a promise between them. And a promise is unbreakable.

Diana: You’re wrong about them. They’re everything you say but so much more.
Ares: Lies! They do not deserve your protection!
Diana: It’s not about deserve. It’s about what you believe. And I believe in love.

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room here. This screenplay has taken Greek mythology and twisted it into a Christian parable. Turn the other cheek. Love thine enemy. All that jazz. But separate from that, Diana’s choice to love is the right one because of what it represents about our own history.

At the end of WWI, the Allies win. They believe with everything they have that the people of the Central powers deserve to pay for the carnage and destruction. Despite people like Vera Britton advocating for both sides to realize that war itself is the evil and an armistice at such a steep cost cannot possibly lead to lasting peace, the Allies take their pound of flesh. And so the German people let a genocidal maniac take over their country. That’s a bit of simplification, but do some Googling and the gist is there.

Now, what happened after WWII? The Allies rebuilt East/West Germany. The Allies rebuilt Japan. WWII was objectively more horrible and deadly than WWII, but, afterward, there was no armistice. (There wasn’t peace, either. The deconstruction of colonialism in the midst of the Cold War saw to that.) But WWIII hasn’t happened yet. Nuclear weapons haven’t been used again. Chemical weapons use is treated as a horrific act, not an everyday incident. That’s huge

War is perpetual as long as we perpetuate it. Everyone has a justification. And, yes, no justice, no peace. Sometimes you have to go to war to make things right. But at some point, the passing along of blame has to stop or there will never be peace. The hardest thing in the world is to love your enemy if they have wronged you. The hardest thing on this earth is convincing people to love each other enough to share their wealth, their privilege, their protection, their lives. It seems impossible to teach people who hate to love. But, in the end, that’s only thing that will save us.

Ares represents hate. He hates humans for reasons even Diana acknowledges as valid. But Diana can know and understand that hatred without giving into it. She has a complex view of human nature that allows her to retain her idealism. Hate doesn’t have the power here. Love does. That’s why she can destroy Ares. That’s why the German soldiers can breathe fresh air and hug strangers from the other side. In that moment and for a time after, love wins.

As for the rest of this “century of horrors”? That’s “a different story altogether.”

Diana: I used to want to save the world. To end war and bring peace to mankind. But then I glimpsed a darkness that lives within their light, and learned that within every one of them there will always be both. A choice each much make for themselves. Something no hero will ever defeat. And now I know that only love can truly save the world.

The thesis of this film is that war makes everyone complicit. Everyone is to blame. There are no innocents for a divine hero like Diana to save. But she does what she can because she believes in us and our better angels. Yeah, this is just a superhero movie. But that is an important message, and, sadly, an all-too-rare one.

No. No. No.

Racism is a WHITE SUPREMACY issue.

Racism is a conscious decision that individuals make because they are racist. It isn’t a mental health issue that is beyond an individuals control.

Racism exists because we live in a society that is based off of racism and benefits from the institutional perpetuation of it.

I can’t even begin to discuss the problems with labeling racism as a mental health issue. Stop it now and stop forever.

“The major media, particularly the elite media that set the agenda that others generally follow, are corporations ‘selling’ privileged audiences to other businesses. It would hardly come as a surprise if the picture of the world they present were to reflect the perspectives and interests of the sellers, the buyers, and the product. Concentration of ownership of the media is high and increasing. Furthermore, those who occupy managerial positions in the media, or gain status within them as commentators, belong to the same privileged elites, and might be expected to share the perceptions, aspirations, and attitudes of their associates, reflecting their own class interests as well. Journalists entering the system are unlikely to make their way unless they conform to these ideological pressures, generally by internalizing the values; it is not easy to say one thing and believe another, and those who fail to conform will tend to be weeded out by familiar mechanisms.”

The Modern Gentleman

The Rebirth Of The Cool

“Every once in a while you come across someone whose style is so clean and manners are so refined that you realise the power of the word Gentleman, in the most classic sense of the word.”

His style is the personification of cool and elegant sophistication; an unapologetic embrace of discreet polish and natural confidence. Shrouded in a tapestry of unpretentious swagger, the long awaited re-emergence of the distinguished modern gentleman is almost upon us.

We are living in a cold, digital and cynical world, where values, virtues, manners and behaviour don’t seem to matte anymore. The reality is that even human interaction is overwhelmingly supported by and through digital technology. Human kind seems so bent out of shape, where facts are no more relevant and are considered optional, where black is white and where up is down. People seem to know the price of everything and the value of nothing. -Oscar Wilde
Celebrities who stand for nothing and everything run and influence the world.
Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people.

The interesting thing about human society is that whenever - lets call it a phase gets out of control a so called counter movement arises. In this case it is the rise of the gentleman and with it the resurrection of virtues, values, manners and behaviour. In a society without role models who reflect for what humanity stands for and by what it’s normally kept together, the call and the search for a deeper purpose in life gets louder and broader.

The rebirth of the cool is also the birth of the modern gentleman who is not defined by birth or age but rather by choice. It’s a conscious and personal decision made by individuals to frame their way of life with gentlemanly values. In my opinion there is no higher accolade than to call a man a gentleman.

It is also displaying diversity in terms of preexisting stereotypes and the perception of gentlemen in general. A gentleman is not perceived anymore as a monolithic block of people. Not every man in a suit and tie is a gentleman and not every gentleman wears suit and tie. The modern gentleman is no longer defined by the content of his wallet or the cut of his suit, he is defined by his manners and the content of his character. Never forget, a monkey in a suit is still a monkey.

In every aspect of life respect yourself enough to know that you deserve the very best. Never wake up to be mediocre. The mindset of a modern gentleman in terms of business, lifestyle and sports.

A gentleman takes pride in how he presents himself.

Whether it is how he dresses or how he speaks, a gentleman understands the importance of a first impression and how he is perceived. No, this does not mean he lives his life on other people’s terms or is always looking for validation from them. What it means is, he understands the importance of making a good impression and expanding his personal and professional network. A man who takes pride in who he is and how he presents himself will find more opportunities coming his way, as he is desirable to spend time and engage in conversation with.

A gentleman treats everyone with respect.

Regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or any other involuntary characteristic a person can have, a gentleman does not categorize. He sees those around him as human and treats them with the respect that he would expect them to treat him with. Since a gentleman does not discriminate, there is no basis for unfair treatment towards others in his mind, everyone is equal.
He understands that his kindness towards others is not based on who they are, but on who he is. Because of this, it is unwavering.

A gentleman does not allow himself to be walked on.

There is a difference between showing kindness towards others and letting yourself become a doormat. Part of having respect for others is also having respect for yourself. A gentleman who has respect for himself will never let himself be taken advantage of. Give others the benefit of the doubt and the gift of your kindness, but if they do not do the same, a gentleman will understand they do not meet the standards of those who he accepts into his life, and he will move forward.

A gentleman will always be improving himself.

As an extension to the previous point, in order to get respect from others, you first must have it for yourself. This means taking care of both your physical and mental well-being. In a photoshop-ridden society, our generations certainly appear to value surface over substance, but a gentleman understands the importance of what goes beyond the outer shell. Whether it is reading books, listening to lectures, watching documentaries, or any other education medium he prefers, it is important to not lose sight of improving the mind while also working on improving the body.

A gentleman values his family and relationships.

More important than professional accomplishment and success, is cultivating the relationships with the people whom you will share it with. A gentleman will understand that no matter how far he makes it in life, it is better to be in a cottage with people he loves than it is to be in a mansion by himself.

A gentleman isn’t afraid to be wrong.

Many people in today’s day and age seem to have an incredible avoidance to being wrong. They will take a stand on a position and never allow new information or evidence to change their mind. This puts up a stone wall around your current base of knowledge and allows no room for expansion beyond it. The only way to learn or grow, is to be wrong. Only when you are wrong do you absorb new information, change your stance, and subsequently become “right.” Without the ability to admit a mistake, there will be no lessons to take from it.

A gentleman is cool, calm, and collected.

In a fast paced, constantly-changing world, it is an asset to be able to slow down the mind and keep things in perspective. A gentleman will have (or work to develop) the ability to not be perpetually stressed out. He will take life’s ups and downs in stride, and understand that night is always darkest before the dawn. Even when problems arise, he will work through them with determination. This will prevent him from becoming overwhelmed and making poor decisions or treating others badly.

A gentleman always keeps the woman in his life happy.

It is important for a gentleman to hold high standards for how he acts when he is in a relationship. This includes never mistreating her or taking her for granted. Always valuing her and showing her that he does (not just telling her). He will understand that the effort it took to get the type of woman he wants, is the same effort it will take to keep her, and that a lady would never accept being taken for granted any more than he would. He will never lose sight of doing the small things that make her happy.

Gentlemen are a rare breed and an endangered species in today’s society. It is important for men to strive for these ideals as well as for women to show the men their efforts are appreciated and recognized. While many men reach for these qualities without any need for outside influence, I can also assume that more would put in effort if they knew how much of a difference it would make in their life.

But if they don’t, gentleman cannot be afraid to separate themselves from the crowd. The effort they put into living the best life they can comes with a reward that many others will never receive: The accomplishment of that goal.

GROOMING 2017

These days, becoming a modern gentleman isn’t easy. It goes far beyond the simplicity of what clothes we wear. Something has to be said about men’s grooming and its importance in achieving the gentleman look we strive for.
Times have evolved and getting hold of that look has now become not just desirable, but believe it or not, there’s an art to it.
Brushing your teeth and splashing some water on your face just won’t suffice anymore, we got away with it long enough. It’s time to go the extra mile!

Healthy skin, maintaining the beard, manscaping and don’t be fooled manicures are manly.

The way men look after their appearance has undergone a revolution in the last twenty years. Where once a moisturiser might have been considered outré, it now seems to be the bedrock of every man’s grooming regime. It’s easy to fall prey to anxiety and insecurity on these fronts, especially in the face of advertisements and Photoshopped media icons.

So yes, it helps enormously to enjoy your grooming routine; but our long term aim is to use the confidence that comes with looking good to feel completely at home in our own skin.

BE WELL GROOMED, NOT OVER-PREENED

Good grooming is like a magic trick: people should be impressed by the results, but in the dark about how you achieved them. Overdo the fragrance, teeth whitening or eyebrow taming and you just show the world your sleight of hand.

CREATE YOUR OWN RITUAL

Many cultures (from the ancient Greeks and
Jews to the modern Japanese and Scandinavians) practise bathing as a ritual. Hot water is relaxing, yet invigorating like little else – that’s why some of our best thoughts can come to us in the shower. But take the time out from here on in to really ‘be’ in the shower, to quell the monkey mind and to really feel the water on your skin and the scent
of the products you use. It’s not just the female of the species that’s worth it.

Health And Wellbeing

Todays modern gentleman lives his life holistically. He understands that how he treats his body affects his mind, and vice versa, that there’s no real separation between the two. An improvement in one area is often what unlocks improvement in another. Some say that exercise is the new religion – that gyms are the new cathedrals. Perhaps this is a bit extreme. But it reveals a larger truth: physical fitness can be very important, partially because it’s always a subset of a much bigger theme: living a good life.

PRACTICE YOUR OWN SPORTS PSYCHOLOGY

Playing sport doesn’t just build muscle and lung capacity. It helps you to refine your ability to strategise and practise collaboration and fair play. By observing your knee-jerk emotions and choosing to respond rather than react, you can change your behaviour on and off the field, court or mat.

KEEP MOVING

It seems odd that we often stand on the escalator on the way to a gym class. Exercise begins the moment you get up in the morning. The ‘active living’ movement helps us to understand this. Man was never meant to be sedentary. Walking up the stairs, washing the car, and having sex can all increase our fitness without a sweaty gym bag in sight.

Chivalry alive
Is chivalry dead?

Chivalry isn’t dead, but it’s certainly in shorter supply these days. Likewise, gentlemen still exist, today, although they may appear slightly different. The  “old school” gentleman, who pulled out chairs and opened up car doors, has since been replaced with the “modern” gentleman, who can maintain a stimulating conversation outside the realms Facebook Messenger. Given the social norms of today’s society, being a gentleman will prove itself to be quite difficult – but not impossible. And while media outlets love to glorify the male icons who tend to mistreat women, and ignore the more chivalric ones who don’t generate headlines, this should have no bearing on how you choose to conduct your own lifestyle. Just because certain behaviors aren’t considered “cool” or “popular” by mainstream standards doesn’t mean they’re correct by societal standards. Being a gentleman is timeless, and mainstream trends will phase in and out. Notice this, and focus on the long-term.
While being in your 20s and carefree may discourage all intentions of acting “gentlemanlike” – recognize the longevity of certain good habits. These will never “go out of style,” and are telltale signs of maturity.

Everyone can be a gentleman. That title is earned, it’s not something you’re born into.
