I am…really struggling to be sympathetic to the plight of men who want Wonder Woman shirts to wear to this movie premiere and can’t find any in their department. Like…walk over to the women’s department. Pick up a t-shirt. I know, gendered clothing sucks. I know, it sucks that nerdy shit isn’t being marketed to you. Welcome. To the world. Of geeky women.
“I’m a big guy, I can’t wear women’s shirts.”
Buddy, you’re talking to a woman who is just large enough that her ability to wear slim-cut women’s hour-glass shaped shirts is limited. I can’t buy a lot of the cute shit at Hot Topic or Target bc I’m just slightly too big. I can’t even buy clothes for the gender which I was designated at birth because I am too large. Welcome. To the world. Of womanhood.
In early July a close friend of mine asked me to make him a dress for a friend’s upcoming wedding. As a huge contra dance fan and a resident near Asheville, NC, it was imperative to him that the skirt be extremely full, ready for a long contra set and many spins. The voluminous pleated skirt, mixed with his desire for a traditional style western shirt made this design an irresistible challenge.
He bought the fabrics and fasteners he wanted, sent them to me, and I got to work. Luckily Julian happens to be almost the exact same size and isn’t opposed to wearing the occasional dress, so he stood in as my fit model. A few days and many pleats later and the dress was finished, complete with paisley details, brass snaps, some deep pockets, and a bronze belt buckle that Chrome kindly sent my way.
After a quick photo shoot it was shoved into an envelope and sent off to North Carolina, where I have word that it spun the night away at that wedding.
Jack has a Stonewall T-shirt, one of the ‘some people are bi, get over it’ ones.
He only really wears it to sleep in and the first time Davey sees him in it he does a double take. He reads it and has to bite his lip not to make the comment that comes to his mind.
Jack catches the little laugh and literally tickles the reason for it out of his boyfriend.
Davey is laughing so bad, tears in the corners of his eyes, and he eventually mumbles ‘I’d prefer to get under it’.
It takes Jack a couple of seconds to puzzle it out but once he gets it he ends up laughing too. Considering Davey is already pinned down under him from the tickle torture, he makes the most of it and holds Davey’s hands down above his heard whilst he kisses down his neck.
It’s a great T-shirt. Jack plans to wear it a lot more often in the future.
Remember, we must always believe in our wishes, for they are the magic in the world. Now, let’s all put our hearts together, and make a wish come true.
My tribute to Wishes, 2 weeks before its last show on May 11, 2017. This show means the world to me, and I had to bid farewell in a proper way. Thank you, Wishes, for all the magic, the laughter and the tears, and for teaching me to do as dreamers do. May all your wishes come true!
