the remarkables

President Trump is being praised for his address to Congress, especially for his remarks to a widow. But we shouldn’t be taken in so easily

President Donald Trump shocked everyone Tuesday with his speech – but not for the reasons you might think. Despite a very rocky first few weeks in office, Trump delivered an optimistic message to lawmakers at a Joint Session of Congress. “There were no campaign-like riffs, no boasting of his electoral victory, no bashing of the media or taunts or jeers at his opponents,” as NPR noted. But his actions tell another story.

Being best friends with Alec Lightwood would include...
  • he’d grow very annoyed when he is halfly forced to tell you everything, but deep down, he appreciates that you care.
  • actually considers you as a family member.
  • means, nobody is allowed to mess with you.
  • not a man of words as we know, but he’d look at your love interests/ partner very sceptical at first, not being the nicest around them until they passed the “alec check”
  • he isn’t possessive though and he trusts your decisions (most of times at least)
  • he might seem grumpy 24/7 but you can call him and he’d be there in an instant
  • prepare yourself for sassy remarks and his infamous eyerolls - if he is giving you the last one, at least you know discussion is over and you basically won
  • he is not good in aplogizing verbally so he’d probably write a letter and leave it front of your door or something
  • when he is texting you, he is barely using emojis - only the ‘thumbs up’ and the annoyed looking one but if YOU stopped using emojis, he’d immediately ask what’s up
  • depending on how long you know each other, he’d know your habits and likes/dislikes perfectly well  so he can tell if something is wrong
  • sidehugs if you need comfort

anonymous asked:

I wonder why Isayama chose Mikasa and Levi not to be closely related by blood. He could have done it, they have the surnames and everything, but he didn't. I wonder if that will be important later on?

Exactly, anon! It makes us all wonder

This is all very suspicious. Maybe it’s just a publishing strategy from his editor, since Levi and Mikasa are the most popular male and female characters respectively. Even if it doesn’t serve a purpose later on, at least Isayama hasn’t sunk our ship yet, and that’s remarkable in a manga like SNK - boy, did you see how many ships he’s sunk / nearly sunk last year alone? So there is still a remote chance they become canon in the end, and that’s all that matters for now.

Never-before-seen photos of Adolf Hitler found in an album in mistress Eva Braun's bedroom

A photo album containing never-before-seen candid snaps of Adolf Hitler that was found in Eva Braun’s bedroom drawer in the Fuhrer’s Bunker have come to light 72 years later.

The remarkable images show the Nazi dictator and his henchmen in rare lighter moments of the Second World War.

There is one snap of a grinning Hitler in a ‘Chaplinesque’ pose and offering a playful salute to the person taking the photo outside his Berghof headquarters. Two more show him smiling in front of a crowd of children saluting him.

Other snaps depict SS chief Heinrich Himmler giving a creepy smile for the camera; Josef Goebbels - the architect of the Holocaust - being wildly cheered by a crowd of Germans and portly Luftwaffe chief Herman Goering climbing into a car.

The private photo album was seized as a souvenir by a British wartime photographer who entered the Berlin bunker a few weeks after Hitler and Braun had committed suicide there at the end of the war.

A Russian soldier used his bayonet to force open a locked drawer to discover the album alongside a broken perfume spray and underwear. The cover of the album still carries the aroma of the perfume seven decades on.

Photographer Edward Dean, who visited the bunker with celebrated journalist and broadcaster Richard Dimbleby, took ownership of the album.

It contains 73 informal photos that would have been taken by a member of Hitler’s inner circle, possibly a bodyguard or even Braun herself as she does not appear in any.

To highlight the unrestricted access the photographer enjoyed, there is a close up shot of Hitler’s desk and his office in the Reich Chancellery in Berlin and a snap of his personal aircraft.

Another image depicts the evil dictator in pensive thought as he sits alone on the veranda of the Berghof studying some important papers.

Mr Dean sold the album to a collector in the 1980s. The collector had it for 30 years and it was recently bought by another collector who is selling it now at auction.

C&T Auctions, of Ashford, Kent, have placed a pre-sale estimate of £18,500 on the unique item.

Tim Harper, of C&T Auctions, said: “We can say with 100 per cent certainty that this album was recovered from Hitler’s bunker in Berlin in 1945.

Eva Braun was the “first lady” of the Third Reich and without question this was with her at the last stages of the war in the Fuhrer Bunker in Berlin in 1945.

“Very few significant artefacts liberated from the Fuhrer Bunker in 1945 exist today in the open market, especially with such concrete provenance dating all the way back to the time of liberation.

"Photographs of Hitler were very carefully controlled to ensure they fitted in to the image the Nazis were trying to project of him.

"So it is rare to come across easy-going photographs of him that wouldn’t have got through the censorship, especially during the height of the Second World War.

"The one of him walking down the path outside the Berghof in a kind of a jocular pose giving an almost Charlie Chaplin-type salute is quite striking.

"There are quite a few pictures of Himmler which you didn’t often get to see.

"It is almost for certain these photos were taken by somebody in her inner circle, possibly a bodyguard. It is also likely that Eva Braun would have taken some of them as she doesn’t appear in any.

"The album is in very good condition. It has a stylised Swastika built into the binding, a very typical SS album cover.

"We know Braun owned it and that it belonged to her because of where it was found, in her bedroom.

"All the pictures are unpublished. They look like they were privately taken so would be unlikely to have been reprinted or published anywhere.

"There is a certain macabre aspect to it, given that it was owned and handled by evil people.

"But they were people who were right at the focus of history, a pivotal moment in time that culminated in the suicide of Adolf Hitler.

"My guess is that the album will go to someone who wants a powerful and visual statement from history.”

The album measures 13ins by 9ins and will be sold on March 15.

The Core Four and Jokes

I wanted to expand on this headcanon

  • Tina usually sticks to witty remarks in conversation, but occasionally she’ll tell a joke with a punchline.  Usually, though, she starts laughing too hard before she gets to it and she has to try a couple of times to actually say the punchline
  • Newt is all about those puns.  He’s not really one to tell jokes, but if the chance arises, he will make a pun and the worse it is, the more he grins
  • Queenie, like Tina, prefers witty interjections, but when she actually tells a joke her delivery is what gets everyone laughing.  She’s very good at timing and inflection and can get people to laugh at even the simplest of stories.
  • Jacob runs the gamut.  Puns, retorts, jokes (particularly dad jokes) are all in his repertoire.  He also starts laughing as he says the punchline and it’s usually his infectious laughter that gets everyone else joining in.
  • Tina and Jacob like to trade jokes they’ve heard and there’s always a lot of laughter during those conversations

“I’m just one gigantic ball of rancid fear and self-consciousness. I’m entirely fueled by fear, so the fact that I knew it could be a catastrophic disaster made me unable to sleep, and made me work quite hard.” — Eddie Redmayne, b. January 6, 1982

Imagine if One Direction had just won an award and got up there and said, “This doesn’t have Zayn’s name on it, does it?”

okay listen. everyday, trying-to-fit-in kara kills me. the glasses, the flats, the argyle sweaters, it kills me. she is the embodiment of “too pure, too good” and it is really too much for me to handle. it’s all to try and blend in and seem insignificant, but guess what?? kara could be wearing camouflage and she would still stand out bc who smiles that much? whose eyes light up like that when they see potstickers for christ’s sake?? kara is so observant that she probably knows the birthdays of all the employees in the office at catco and gets them a card or a donut or something, and she notices because she cares so much about everyone. like she wants to make sure no one feels left out or forgotten and loves to make people feel special. she tries so hard to blend in but she’s too kind, too thoughtful, too bright to ever be anything but remarkable. and that has nothing to do with supergirl, that’s just kara being kara.

When you are too ignorant to know that Africa is a continent and not a country. ig: @jamescharles, you  probably have a higher risk of getting HIV in America than Ebola in Africa, but anyway #sipstea. The fact that Cover Girl chose somebody like this to represent them, speaks volumes. Seems like @jamescharles has a lot of negative things to say when it comes to race.

ig: @jamescharless

i had this friend. loud, vivacious, and brimming with energy and colour. her sun-bright smile drew others to her like moths to flame; and yet she could always pick me out from the crowd effortlessly. i wondered how she did that, why she’d pick me over many.

she was the kind of person you could never look away from for long, but i saw her better from my peripherals. when she lifted her chin, her face would become awash with glowing light; and then she’d laugh about her pale skin, and the ruddy cheeks and dark freckles would appear again, as if they’d momentarily blanked out. when she grew protective, her blue eyes would spark dangerously and burn white; and then she’d blink, and the glint of her glasses would stand in with explanation.

but i saw her best from the back. when she’d run, her fire-bright curls would flare out behind her like wings.

as flighty as she was, she always came back to me. i wondered why.

she told me, once.

one day, before class had started, when i was in the middle of falling asleep in the sunbeam warming my desk, she turned around in her seat to talk to me. she spoke with her whole body, from her waving hands to her bouncing shoulders.

then she petered off, and settled into stillness. watchfulness. despite all the eyes on her, she only saw me.

“hey,” she said. “could you look at me for a sec?”

and when i lifted my head to look at her straight on, she smiled as if she’d found the answer.

“look at that,” she murmured. “your eyes have halos in them too.”

Congratulations to Moonlight (2016), dir. Barry Jenkins, for winning Best Picture at the 89th Academy Awards.
