the radio station

I agree his promo sucks and there's lots that should have been done. But I'm not going to pretend there was nothing. There were interviews with major DJs in the US, UK & Australia. Performances at Teen Choice, iHeart Festival and the Tonight Show. A High Snobiety spread. The Observer piece. Noisey for Vice. His song got some radio play in the US & UK. Not enough. But he wasn't iced. You're re-writing the narrative to pretend he got nothing, when really the narrative is so much more complicated.

Well, you’re Sony’s perfect Louis fan anon I’ll give you that. You see only what they show you. You are saying because he didnt get *literally* nothing, that proves he isn’t being sabotaged? No one is saying he got *nothing*. We’re saying what he got was deliberately ineffective. You list the next to useless things that *were* done as evidence of…what exactly? That they mean well? They tried but mysteriously lost all their professional abilities when it came to Louis? BTY was assassinated as a single by his own labels. JLY has had zero support save a couple of tweets. What could possibly explain that?  There is literally no other explanation other than spontaneous across-the-board loss of professional ability sweeping through his team only when it comes to Louis.

@goodmorningtoyouuniverse has done multiple brilliant posts explaining detail why Louis promo was deliberately ineffective and she can explain far better than I can. *But* the performances you mention were the *only* ones he got. Teen Choice was purely his existing audience, with a poor line up, which none of the others did. Pretty Much were there though, the way they shadowed every bit of promo Louis did as the team used him to get them through doors, but they actually got real determined promo on top.

Teen Choice still gave BTY a quick boost in sales which shows performances worked. But Fallon was the only TV he did and the night with the lowest audience with no sit down interview or fun games like the other boys got to show his charm. Nothing like the others got.Nothing to make him stick in the memory; no chat about his new career. As forgettable as they could make him.  iHeart happened just as the pulled the single from radio. So it was pointless. In other words they gave him enough performances to convince people like you that they tried but nothing to help the song.

He did no performances in the UK where his promo after one day of major stations (but no R1 Alist- that had to be fought for as did general play) consisted of being set up as a homophobe by Dan Wooton and dragged round tiny radio stations none of the other guys would go near, to talk about Eleanor. To add insult to injury Bebe was in the UK at the time, but no performances, no joint interviews. Just the vague appearance of business being done with the minimum of effectiveness.

‘Major DJs’ - yeah he managed to talk to a few.  That really looked impressive didnt it even though his team told them all to ask about Louis stunts? but at least he got on. Except those interviews are of very limited use if the label isn’t pushing the song to be played and it was not pushed. Pretty Much’s song was pushed. BTY was not. Most requested Live? Mysteriously they got on despite Louis fans tweeting and requesting and phoning, Louis didnt. Because his label was not backing him; PMs label were backing them.  All Louis promo has been aimed at people like you - fans convinced by any kind of activity because they want to be. A new wide audience has not been engaged, because they do not wan that to happen. The fact that Louis Spotify and YT numbers are good is *despite* all Sony & Louis team have done to him. Its the hard work of his devoted fans and the fact that lots of people who got to hear the song loved it- just like JHO in fact which Louis team also shafted

He got couple of lovely photo shoots for sure for internet mags with limited audiences with some very deliberate emphasis on stunts like the E tattoo -  what new audience did they bring Louis and how many fans did the interviews upset? Especially since his SM is run in the main to ignore anything that can actively help him and use anything that can degrade his brand. His twitter account spent at most one day promoting JLY and the whole fandom was stunned that even that much had happened. That doesn’t ring alarm bells with you anon?

The only significant attention grabbing moment was the Observer piece which I admit at the time I believed was a good sign, because the effect was so positive. Louis came across too well so people were nice about him. But I should have listened to people who could see what the point was. That piece was all about underlining the story to the GP that his solo career was a huge risk (and how long have they sold him in there press as the untalented one), that he could as easily fail as succeed, that he was the humble one in the back who didnt really contribute much etc etc.

The narrative is complicated? No anon – only in the details. Why is Louis allowed to produce good music and work with good people? Why are his videos so good and apparently free of interference? Those are complications in the narrative of sabotage. But all that Sony and Louis supposed team have and havent done?  The absolute  lack of promotion, the way they’ve made him disappear when he should be out there showing his face and talent, the way they destroyed his launch single, the degradation of his brand and undermining of his fanbase? All it took was the odd red herring of ‘promo’–carefully ineffective but enough to convince  people who want to be convinced. That’s not complicated at all.

@goodmorningtoyouuniverse please feel free to add on the clever stuff.

Carrie Fisher once sent a cow tongue to a sexually inappropriate Hollywood producer
Nothing but respect for MY general.
By Proma Khosla

Even after her death Carrie Fisher is having none of your bullshit.

Heather Ross, a friend of Fisher’s, spoke to a local radio station in Tucson, AZ. about her experience with sexual assault in Hollywood. On the 94.9 Morning Mix, Ross recalled inappropriate advances from a big name producer and how Fisher made clear she had a zero-tolerance policy for that kind of behavior.

After Ross was assaulted by “an Oscar-winning producer” – not Weinstein, but another – Fisher was furious. After the initial shock and fear wore off, Fisher ran into the producer at Sony and delivered him a package.

“It was a cow tongue from Jerry’s Famous Deli with a note that said, ‘If you ever touch my darling Heather or any other woman again, the next delivery will be something of yours in a much smaller box.’”

The cow tongue was all Fisher’s idea, natch, and she made sure to deliver it in person and watch him open the box.

"That’s just how she was,” Ross said. “I miss her dearly. She stood up for people.”

“That’s who Carrie Fisher was,” she added. “She put things out there and in your face.”

this format is dead but here are some more playlists:

at 11:17pm on july 25th, 2017, lorde tweeted “you’re the only motherfucker in this city who can handle me” from the st. vincent song ‘new york’. here’s a playlist about that

every time I hear a song and think “wow it’s almost as if they wrote this to be in brokeback mountain”, I put it in this playlist. it’s sad sexual ambiguity with a lot of guitar

this playlist is about how hard it is to grow up. (people who genuinely enjoy their birthdays don’t interact)

here are a bunch of songs that will make your friends ask you if you’re gay when you put them on the aux

you’re driving through somewhere nondescript in the midwest and the only radio station that comes in is playing melancholy oldies

you’re sad but you’re only trying to make it worse enough that you’re really mopey, not full blown suicidal

if being in love doesn’t feel like these songs then I don’t want it

should any of y’all decide to backpack cross country with your lesbian lover, i’ve made y’all a playlist

  • them: why your sudden interest in 80s music?
  • me, an intellectual: season 3 episode 4 of black mirror, a series created by charlie brooker on netflix, titled 'san junipero', starring mackenzie davis and gugu mbatha-raw as lead characters yorkie and kelly. it's based in a seaside town in 1987, where a shy young woman and an outgoing party girl strike up a powerful bond that seems to defy the laws of space and time. it stands out as being the most hopeful episode of this typically dystopian show, and for giving its multiracial female couple the happiest ending imaginable in an otherwise dismal media landscape for queer characters
170918 BTS ‘LOVE YOURSELF: Her’ Press Conference - Compilation

- Rap Monster: “LOVE YOURSELF: Her is a series following after ‘Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa’ and ‘WINGS’. This album takes the role of ‘seung’ in ‘gi seung jeon gyeol’ and features 11 songs.” (TV Report) (seung: explanation, gi seung jeon gyeol: introduction - explanation - twist - conclusion)

- Rap Monster: “I think this album will become one of our turning points.” (TV Report)

- Jin: “Please love our song ‘DNA’ that contains our DNA.” (Mydaily)

- Suga: “I was greatly surprised when I heard the news about the number of pre-orders. It was 700,000 for the last album and we were very grateful to our fans and everyone who listened to our album then too. This time we thought we shall grow a little greedier and it would possibly reach 800,000 orders, we were greatly surprised seeing the news. I’m grateful that this many people love us. I think the pre-orders represent the trust and love for our music, I’m really grateful.” (Herald Pop)

- Rap Monster: “‘DNA’ contains our message of reconciliation and unite that we want to throw at the society.” (Mydaily)

- [About the meaning of ‘harmony’] Rap Monster: “I think love is an ability. If you can’t love yourself, you can’t love others. I often hear people saying that love is an illusional and vague thing these days. I thought about the method of loving. The time we spend looking into ourselves is getting lesser ad lesser because of smart phones and news media. I consider loving oneself to be the answer to many things. We don’t have the confidence to love ourselves completely, but we want to try and think about that answer. Starting from loving ourselves. That’s how it started. Although we haven’t been able to find that answer yet, we hope we can as we go along with the ‘gi seung jeon gyeol’ series.” (Mydaily, Joynews24)

- [About the whistle sound] Rap Monster: “I and Jungkook did the whistling together but I don’t know which one they used.” (News Inside)

- [About new goals] Suga: “Whenever we receive this question, we always said that our goal is to enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The Hot 100 chart actually requires having many albums sold, having songs streamed a lot and another important thing is radio play. This is not easy at all. We are holding expectation whether it will come true this time, but luckily US radio stations are giving us a lot of attention and select our songs often, so we’re carefully placing hope this time. Our album is being sold in the US this time and so many people are showing expectation and attention for us so we want to enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart this time.” (Newsen)

- Jimin: “I really want us to top the digital music chart when the digital album is released. I hope many people will love all of our songs this time as well as give BTS who always attempt new things a lot of love.” (Newsen)

- ‘DNA’ is a song of an uncommonly seen music structure in K-pop, featuring the foreign trendy EDM pop genre and bold use of beat drop. The song contains the message ‘we are entwined by fate from the beginning, we are one from the DNA’. (Newsen)

- Suga: “BTS members and the company staff often hold meetings together. The album concepts are from our thoughts and the producers’ thoughts merged together. When we first debuted, we each were busy making our own music, but now we combine BTS’ thoughts and the company’s ones and come up with the concepts.” (Maeil Kyungje)

- Rap Monster: “I often have meetings and hang out with the company staff. I talk with the producers, including Bang Shihyuk PD. The company keeps an eye on what we think.” (Maeil Kyungje)

- Rap Monster: “I always want to give good influence socially. Whenever I see people who like us, I feel a sense of responsibility. It can be become their inspiration or be left as good impression to them, but I think even mere appreciation like enjoying listening to our music or feeling our dance to be cool can also give good influence. I’m feeling the responsibility to keep offering good influence.” (Newsen)

- Suga: “Music is an extraordinary act that can moves someone. I hope the world will eventually become a world where many people are happy.” (Maeil Kyungje)

- [About ‘GO Rather Than Worrying’] Suga: “These days the young generation uses words like ‘YOLO’ and ‘spendthrift’, and I can’t understand why they use those words that much. We interpreted it from the perspective of BTS (in the song), I hope you would think about why the young generation uses ‘YOLO’ and ‘spendthrift’ while listening.” (Mydaily)

- [About ‘DNA’ music video] Suga: “We emphasized on the fancy impression to portray the feeling of falling in love. I was amazed every time I see the music video filming set, because it was so beautiful. I feel good since the result will come out great.” (Sports Joseon)

- Jin: “‘Best Of Me’ is a great song to listen to with lyrical melodies. This song was mixed by a partner who works together with The Chainsmokers. I hope many people would listen to it.” (Sports Joseon)

- Rap Monster: “There’s a famous performance in which president Obama dropped his mic to wrap up the new year speech. It was one of the performances that hold the meaning ‘My speech was good, right?’. ‘MIC Drop’ is a track connected with it. It features a lot of our swag and ambitions and was inspired by president Obama’s speech.” (Seoul Kyungje)

- [About collaboration with Seo Taiji] V: “He gave us support and told us that it’s our era now. I can truly feel that it’s an honor to be able to perform together with such a legendary senior singer.” (Mydaily)

- Jin: “Seo Taiji-sunbaenim told me that I can call him ‘father’. I was grateful that he used the word ‘Seo Taiji and Sons’.” (Mydaily)

- Suga: “I call him ‘hyungnim’. He’s way younger than my father.” (Mydaily)

- [About why the start of the series is ‘seung’ (explanation) and not ‘gi’ (introduction)] Suga: “When we consider the process of falling in love as ‘gi seung jeon gyeol’, I think the stage where we are the most immersed in love would be ‘seung’, so the album started as ‘seung’. There will come a moment when you understand why ‘seung’ comes out now if you follow our album sequence in the future.” (Mydaily)

- Rap Monster: “I think a lot about where our goal should be. When we first debuted, I couldn’t even think of working together with The Chainsmokers. Performing at the Gymnastics Stadium was our goal before debut, but now all kinds of unimaginable proposals are coming from inside and outside of our company. I’m curious about how far we can go. Our abstract goal is to climb up to the top and leave a milestone in the history like how PSY-sunbaenim did.” (Mydaily, Joynews24)

- Suga: “We followed the path of the senior singers and now we too need to build that path and advance further. I hope we can build better paths with better sides of us.” (Joynews24)

- BTS: “Although figures are important, we want to show good music and good performance.” (Joynews24)

Small book things that prove Shadow Moon is precious

-Shadow Moon cheated on a coin toss so he would purposefully lose and have to buy a hitchhiker dinner (instead of the hitchhiker buying Shadow dinner)

-Shadow Moon left a dead cockroach on a motel floor instead of getting rid of it “out of respect for the dead”

-Actual quote: ”He [Shadow] drove over a big muddy river and laughed out loud when he saw that the name of it, according to the sign, was Big Muddy River”

-Shadow Moon does coin tricks whenever he sees little children to try and entertain them. It’s always his first reaction if he catches a kid looking at him

-Shadow Moon smiles to himself quite often when he is alone

-When Shadow orders hot chocolate for himself he specifically asks for whipped cream on the top

-Shadow Moon felt proud of himself when he performed coin tricks for adults for the first time, as he always just practiced alone or in front of children

-When Shadow arrived at his apartment and saw that there was a cat outside of it, he immediately bent down to pet the cat

-Shadow Moon would go on walks alone and wave at the people (locals and tourists alike) he passed around town

-Shadow bought a bottle of Cabernet as a gift for someone because he had seen “life is a bottle of Cabernet” on a bumper sticker and it made him laugh

-Shadow Moon likes listening to the oldies radio station

The thing is, if I don’t like a musician or song I might be annoyed to hear their song on the radio, I might say “ughh” roll my eyes and change the radio station but thats it. I don’t immediately grab my phone and tweet a mean thing about them. The moment I switched the radio station I forget about that artist and that song. Taylor must have a huge impact on your life if you spent so much time hating on her like for real, sorry for you and your non existent problems

I f*cking love crossovers.
- The Ravenclaw dorm has an unspoken rule: do not turn off the radio
- Back in 1983, a team off Ravenclaws figured out how to make a radio work in Hogwarts, but something was off
- It only picked up one station: Night Vale Community Radio
- The students didn’t know what to make of it. Was it a fictional station? Was it a real place?
- Regardless, they left it on. They never once turned it off, to this day.
- It’s a morale strengthener and bonding exercise for the Ravenclaws
- Every evening all the Ravenclaws gather in the common room to listen to the American’s sultry voice
- Some of them study, some of them create, some of them just listen silently, but all of them listen
- Eventually, one bright student learns that Night Vale is a real place
- The head of Ravenclaw house has to send them all to bed because of the party
- Many Ravenclaws head to Night Vale after they graduate and are just so happy because Merlin’s beard, it’s real
- All of the other houses are completely baffled by the Ravenclaws
- “What the hell are they talking about?”
- Luna Lovegood, especially, takes a shine to the radio station and brings some of her friends to listen one year.
- Namely, Ginny, Hermione, Harry, and Ron
- Obviously, Hermione breaks a little bit
- “Muggle technology can’t work here!” “This is obviously just fiction!” “This can’t be a real place!”
- Ron and Harry work together to stop her and they all listen in rapt attention
- Ginny falls in love with the station, and Harry likes it
- Ron doesn’t buy it
- Hermione is convinced it’s fictional, and that there’s no such place as ‘Night Vale’
- Years later, Luna takes a trip to America after graduation
- And Hermione receives a post card with the words “Welcome to Night Vale” on it and a photo of Luna in front of the sign
- She has to sit down and absorb it
- It’s a tradition for seventh years to tell first years what they need to know about the radio
- Most importantly, not to turn off the radio
- It’s a tradition that still stands today.
- It’s a big reason of why Ravenclaws are the weirdest, wackiest, and most creative house as a whole
(I plan on doing different crossovers with Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin, too, this is just my Ravenclaw pride coming through)
