“I wrote this story for you, but when I began it I had not realized that girls grow quicker than books. As a result you are already too old for fairy tales, and by the time it is printed and bound you will be older still. But some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again. You can then take it down from some upper shelf, dust it, and tell me what you think of it. I shall probably be too deaf to hear, and too old to understand a word you say, but I shall still be your affectionate Godfather, C. S. Lewis.”
Okay, baby, if it makes you feel better,
you can imagine
your worst case scenario.
You can imagine a monster
but that doesn’t make it
Yena Sharma Purmasir from ‘Dream Deferred’ from her book When I am Not There
(This book honestly is very quickly becoming everything I ever wanted in my father. He isn’t dead. He is very much alive and in good health and comes home every night but he doesn’t rly feel like my father. I am SO thankful Yena wrote this book. I didn’t know I needed it until I had it.)
Rules: Copy, Paste, Answer, and Tag 10 People When You’re Done!
What’s the story behind your username? It’s a reference to an article in a Parks and Recreation tie-in book, Pawnee: The Greatest Town in America.
I was deep in Parks and Rec fandom when I started my Tumblr, and it remains my fav tv show of ever. I happen to like obscure insider references from time to time, so that’s why I picked this particular user name.
What’s your favorite scene or quote from a series/book you’re currently obsessed with?
I’m not really obsessed with anything at the moment, but I did really love the new sitcom The Good Place, which has many excellent quotes.
Jason was the character that gave me the biggest laughs. Here’s one of his best: “You should listen to me. I came up with hundreds of plans in my life and only one of them got me killed.”
Also i love the fake swearing on this show, so the main character Eleanor saying, “Holy mother-forking shirtballs” is a fav.
What’s the most ridiculous fact you know? The united states government put considerable time and money into research and development of a “bat-bomb” during WW2, with the concept of packing hundreds of bats into a large bomb which would release them in low altitude over cities in Japan, and each bat would carry a tiny firebomb that would go off when the bats tried to roost in homes and buildings. Like, this is a real thing. They built prototypes and everything.
Name 3 of your pet peeves.
Strangers trying to make small talk with me in extremely noisy places when I’ve made it clear I’m having trouble hearing them.
when my kids don’t flush the toilet.
People who don’t use turn signals at four-way stops.
What are your favorite toppings on a pizza? cheese. And I either like fancy-pants pizza like my current fav at a local place - thin sliced pears, fresh mozzerella, crushed pistachios, prosciutto, red onion and a balsamic glaze drizzle. Or I like obnoxious American pizza like ham and pineapple.
What are 3 things you like about yourself? My patience
my ability to teach myself new skills using the internet (I’m a pretty good intermediate level knitter after just 2 years of using internet tutorials as my only teacher, and i’ve learned lots of other skills the same way)
Favorite type of dessert or thing to treat yourself with? Sweet baked goods in general, but especially if chocolate is involved.
What is your favorite scent?
Trees and grass after rain. Or fresh-baked bread.
Which fictional character would you cosplay as?
A Ghostbuster. And I have fantasies of making a steam-punk Maleficent costume, but my sewing skills need work and I don’t have the time.
What was the best piece of advice you were ever given?
Treat mental illness just like any other health problem - don’t be ashamed to get professional treatment and/or medication.
Dangan Ronpa Fan Month Week 2: Slice of life/High School
Super-duper late doodle for the past Dangan Ronpa Fan Month prompt - my chose was Slice of Life! I imagined a sort of day off from the Foundation for Touko, that she chose to spend with Komaru, as every good BROTP (or sismance? Female brotp?!) would do. <3 Sorry Byakuya-sama, next day off will be for you. The quote Touko is reading is from IT by Stephen King, one of my fav books ever… i have this headcanon that she *loves* King’s books (and Gaiman’s too), and IT would be the perfect book for her since it’s about friendship. And maybe she would like Carrie too (bullied girl, ya know). Also, i suck at calligraphy orz.
Words, I think, are such unpredictable creatures.
No gun, no sword, no army or king will ever be powerful than a sentence. Swords may cut and kill, but words will stab and stay, burying themselves in our bones to become corpses we carry into the future, all the time digging and failing to rip their skeletons from our flesh.
