the quiet life mountain

You will meet many types of people in your life. You will meet delicate flowers, raging oceans, quiet forests, towering mountains, and colourful skies. You will meet thunderstorms, you will meet lightning. They will knock you down, they will leave you breathless. You will meet sunrises, you will meet gardens. They will give you light, they will take you on adventures. Explore them. Get lost with them. They all have something to teach you.

I lost another fic. It's another long one. Derek has moved on, left BH behind, he moved to a cabin in the woods in some small town in the middle of nowhere America. And one day Stiles is trudging up his long driveway demanding an explanation but also in need of a friend. I also remember Stiles signed up for college in that small town and every villager knows him and sees him as the friendly one whereas they all see derek as stoic because he rarely speaks a word to any of the villagers.

This sounds a lot like Not Quite Lost (Not Quite Found) by alocalband, we hope we’re right!

A year after the nogitsune is defeated, Derek is living a quiet life in the mountains above a small town in Colorado.

Then Stiles shows up.

anonymous asked:

Do you have a favorite sterek fic? like one that you come back to read frequently?

I don’t have just one favorite sterek fic, so I’m gonna give you a whole list of fics that I’ve loved and read more than once.

Cornerstone by Vendelin (83.7k, E)

Suffering from PTSD, ex-Marine Derek Hale moves back to Beacon Hills to open a bookshop and find a calmer life. That’s where he meets Stiles, completely by accident. Stiles is talkative, charming and curious. Somehow, despite the fact that he’s blind, he’s able to read Derek like no one else.

Move A Mountain by ZainClaw (69k, E)

Stiles goes camping with his friends in New Mexico after graduation where they befriend a biker gang led by Derek: a guy whom Stiles can’t decide if he will be either relieved or devastated to never see again once their week is up.

Wild Horses by thepsychicclam (78.9k, E)

Derek’s a drifter with no home, no destination, and no will to live. Stiles works on his family’s failing cattle and horse ranch while all his friends are going off to college. When Derek falls asleep in a random barn, exhausted and half-starved, he doesn’t expect to wake up on the other end of the sheriff’s shotgun. And Stiles sure as hell doesn’t expect his dad to invite the drifter in for breakfast.

The Guard and Red by andavs (74.2k, T)

Derek moves back to Beacon Hills after twelve years in New York and finds that the city has a superhero problem, his sister has a co-op problem, he has a neighbor problem, and he and Stiles spend a lot of time hanging from a fake rock and yelling at each other at seven in the morning.

My Favorite Fics I’ve Written

Tagged by @yodas-yo-yo <3

Narrowing this down to only five was hard (and I still ended up cheating). But here ya go, in no particular order…

[1] Not Quite Lost (Not Quite Found) (Sterek, Explicit)

A year after the nogitsune is defeated, Derek is living a quiet life in the mountains above a small town in Colorado.

Then Stiles shows up.

When I first started writing this, I was expecting it to just be a quick, fluffy, mountain man!Derek piece. Instead it took on a life of its own, as did the many characters populating the fictional small town that ends up somewhat adopting both Derek and Stiles. I often find myself wanting to go back to this universe now, and to revisit the slow, quiet way that Derek and Stiles each learned how to heal themselves while in it.

[2] Amor Fati (Sterek, Explicit)

When Stiles gets thrown into the bank vault about twenty minutes after him, Derek isn’t even surprised.

As it turns out, neither is Stiles.

The longest fic I’ve ever posted, and written during a time when Teen Wolf and Sterek were such a happy place for me. The golden age of the fandom, so to speak, and so memories of writing this story always takes me right back there.

[3] The Socioeconomic Repercussions of Mutually Assured Destruction (Sterek, Explicit)

“The trouble with having the kind of brain that likes to write essays on male circumcision for an Economics class, is that it also likes to turn PowerPoint presentations for Biology into odes on the perfection of notorious bad boy Derek Hale’s backside.”

This one was just so much fun to write, and full of all the little quirky details that I tend to treasure in the fic that I like to read (e.g. Stiles’ composition book, the powerpoint presentation, passing notes via library books, etc.). Misunderstandings and pining are my lifeblood, despite how overdone they are, and this was one of my more enjoyable forays into trying to make those tropes not feel too much like beating a dead horse.

[4] A Bunch of Meddling Kids (Sterek, Teen)

They’ve got it down to a science now, after stumbling their way into the supernatural as naïve fourteen-year-olds.

(or, the one where Stiles, Allison and Lydia are a trio of upstart supernatural hunters whose newest mystery involves whatever’s about to go down at the old Hale place)

It never really got much of a reader response, but I still have half a sequel written and saved somewhere that I keep meaning to come back to because I just completely fell in love with the world. It’s a ton of fun imagining the characters in this rewritten version of events, while also trying to figure out how all of the canon plot points and relationships would still fit into things.

[5.1] Fix or Fight (Nursey/Dex, Teen)

Dex (reluctantly) drives down to New York to check on Nursey the summer before their junior year.

[5.2] All the Love in the World (Zimbits, Teen)

Bitty’s hands are shaking. He has five missed calls from Jack, two from Chowder, one from Lardo, and an astronomical number of yet to be viewed text messages.

Okay, I’m definitely cheating here, but these last two are the first non-Sterek works that I’ve posted in years, and though I write original stuff constantly, it felt really good to finally start branching out again in a fandom space. (And I couldn’t have asked for a better fandom to do it in!)

*

I have no idea who’s done this already, and suspect most of you have, but I’m just gonna tag a bunch of you anyway just in case: @stileshale, @mad-madam-m@paintedrecs, @omgsterekplease, @petals42, @bleep0bleep, @troubleiwant@wellhalesbells, @literaryoblivion, @omghoechlinplease, and whoever else wants to do it!

Harper/Logan AU: Stuck Together (during a blizzard 🌨❄️)

It was almost like a Hallmark Channel movie.

Harper arrived at the cozy cabin ready to forget about the busy city and daily rush of life, and just enjoy some peace and quiet of the mountains at least just for a few days. That is till a blizzard whirls in and a stranded cowboy named Logan comes knocking on her door.

The blizzard provides time for Harper and Logan to get to know each other, and a reason for them to come closer…with the chill and cold and all.

Oh, yeah. Just like a Hallmark movie. Perhaps with a slightly different rating. But still, at the end of it all. Will they be able to part ways for good?

@remicanons 💕

some amazing heartwrenching sterek fic recs

you know, for when you want it to hurt so good, these stories will put you through the emotional wringer before you get that happy ending.

  • Cornerstone by Vendelin (E, 83k) Suffering from PTSD, ex-Marine Derek Hale moves back to Beacon Hills to open a bookshop and find a calmer life. That’s where he meets Stiles, completely by accident. Stiles is talkative, charming and curious. Somehow, despite the fact that he’s blind, he’s able to read Derek like no one else. [gay!Stiles]
  • some kind of karmic-chi love thing by llassah (E, 27k) Derek Hale comes back to Beacon Hills stoned and happy. Stiles tries not to resent him for it, and mostly fails. (This was so unexpectedly beautiful and sad to start with, and an amazing spin on the fluffy stoner fics to how Derek deals with so many issues. Definitely worth the read.)
  • Safety in Silence by Survivah (M, 67k) It’s perfectly understandable. Even Derek wouldn’t want to be Derek’s soulmate. (This fic is everything to me, you’ve got secret pining and falling in love and major denial and doppelgangers and misunderstandings galore. My heart broke about three times reading it and then was put together back in the best way possible.)
  • Yes is a World by jezziejay (M, 10k) When the nemeton casts a protection spell over Beacon Hills, Stiles can finally go to college. Derek thinks this might be a good thing. In which Stiles falls in love and Derek learns a lot. (This story was amazing in how painful it was to read but it is so worth it. If this was made into a movie that doorway scene would go down in romantic history.)
  • lodestone by llassah (T, 5k) “We could…we could be something, couldn’t we?” Stiles murmurs, eyes slipping shut. Derek looks at the IV line in his arm, the bandages covering his chest, his leg. His hand, pale against the hospital sheets, palm up. Derek waits until he’s sure Stiles is asleep before he responds. It takes Stiles eight years to ask the question again. It’s okay. Derek can wait. (Beautiful and painful, the writing will just sweep you in.)
  • Easy Trouble by Survivah (M, 56k) Derek+Stiles+fairies = love spell. "Make love to me,“ Derek demands. What. (My favorite take on the love-spell trope, and the relationship that comes out of it is great.)
  • Hello, Heartbreaker by astoryaboutwar (E, 18k) It’s a popular joke among Alphas: fuck an Omega, get heartbreak on your hands. Omegas are fragile little emotional things, needy and whiny. Stiles refuses to become that, or to believe that he’s anything like that. Stiles and Derek have been fuckbuddies for a while when Derek loses his memories of the past three years - and them - in an accident. (ABO and amnesia and mates, this story takes so many tropes and weaves them all into a great piece.)
  • In the New Year by pyes (E, 44k) In Beacon Hills they don’t say "Happy Holidays.” Instead they say “Yo, Derek,” which translates to “I’m pretty sure I soul-bound my sorry ass to the floor of your loft, four years ago, while reading spells off the internet.” I think that’s beautiful. (This was so heartachingly wonderful, and the Stiles+magic is really well done.)
  • que tu m'aimais encore by magneticwave (T, 20k) Wolves mate for life, don’t they? (This story really wraps you into this fantastically detailed alternate universe, where Stiles is a spark, and Derek is cursed.)
  • The Price by theroguesgambit (M, 18k) Stiles must surrender the most important thing in his life to save the group… and no one can figure out what it was.
  • Somebody That I Used To Know by PercyByssheShelley (M, 10k) Stiles and Derek have been together for months. The trouble is, they weren’t yesterday.
  • Wild Horses by thepsychicclam (E, 79k)  Derek’s a drifter with no home, no destination, and no will to live.
  • A sudden simple twist of fate by heydoeydoey (T, 15k)  Stiles still has Derek’s number saved in his phone, and he tells himself he’s going to delete it, but he doesn’t. Instead, he sends Derek a text. Okay, four texts.
  • Not Quite Lost, Not Quite Found by alocalband (E, 25k) A year after the nogitsune is defeated, Derek is living a quiet life in the mountains above a small town in Colorado. Then Stiles shows up.
  • The Best Bad Things by troubleiwant (T, 11k) “Fuck,” Stiles moans again, squirming desperately against Derek’s crotch. “You gotta - gotta give me something.” He does his best to slide a hand into the back of Derek’s underwear, and gets far enough that his middle finger brushes the base of his spine. “I am,” Derek says, reaching back to grab Stiles by the wrist. He deftly pins both of the kid’s arms above his head and grins, all teeth.
Stiles goes quiet, then, chest heaving and eyes wide. This is what he’s here for, after all. To feel like he’s doing something dangerous.
  • here comes trouble by grimm (E, 106k)  All Derek wants is one day where he can sleep without worry of being woken by gunfire, without the threat of death hanging over his head. He wants a full stomach and no pain clinging to his bones, no ache in his feet from months of running. He wants a shower, a safe place to put his head. He wants his family, the healing comfort of pack. He’ll never have any of that again.
  • Taught By Experts by unpossible (T, 29k)  “Let me get this straight,” Stiles says. “You’re going to be publicly dating someone else.”
They all have something different to teach you.

Hey guys! So it seems that I can’t stick to the “week” part of these rec lists, which I hugely apologise for, but I’m just so busy with real life stuff, and it barely leaves me any time to read fics to begin with, even less to actually compile a list of them. Either way, here comes a list of fics that I’ve read in the last month, and I hope you guys will enjoy it!

These fics will all be completed, varying in length and genres, and will include warnings if necessary.

With the separation from the show extending, and fandom tirelessly producing new works at a pace that challenged even the most dedicated reader to keep up, fans’ appreciation for Derek remained undeniable. Derek could be a chef, a virgin, a man desperately in need of hugs, or a wizard afraid of butterflies: what mattered to fans was that he discovered how to love and appreciate himself. Derek Hale may have left Beacon Hills, his fans agreed, but we haven’t left him. And Stiles isn’t giving up so easily, either. He’ll follow him to the ends of the world, if he has to (or to South America, or mountains in Colorado), and we’ll gladly go along for the ride.

You look like my next mistake | Vendelin ( @ljummen ) | 15,194 | Teen | Sterek | 21 September 2015

“So, are you dating someone new? Someone who doesn’t mind that you’re frigid?” Kate cocks her head to the side, smiling as though she just asked him about where he bought his shoes.

His entire body sighs in defeat as his shoulders grow square. Just as he opens his mouth, someone comes up to stand beside him, snaking an arm around his shoulders. When he glances to his side, expecting to see Isaac, his brain seems to malfunction. Because it isn’t Isaac. It’s Stiles Stilinski, the lacrosse talent of the year, a senior who Derek has seen multiple times from far away, but never ever talked to.

In which Derek is a nerd jock, and Stiles is a frat guy, and Derek falls for him even though he knows he shouldn’t.

Hot Dish | BarlowGirl ( @barlowstreet ) | 2,599 | Teen | Sterek | 23 September 2015

Derek is a chef, and Stiles is a customer. Slight angst and cake happens!

Not Quite Lost (Not Quite Found) | @alocalband | 25,025 | Explicit | Sterek | 28 September 2015

Then Stiles shows up.

There’s a howling that stays beneath my skin | LunaCanisLupus_22 ( @i-sveikata ) | 32,396 | Explicit | Sterek | 11 October 2015

Cora inclines her head pointedly and he realises he’s half perched on the deck chair, ready to leap up and fight at a moment’s notice. Or run. He shrugs out of his dad’s jacket, folding it over the edge of the chair, and then crosses his arms.

He’s relaxed, okay? He took the jacket off. He’s plenty relaxed.

Or Derek’s obligatory vacation fic in South America after he left Beacon Hills (for good?)

While You Were(n’t Quite) Sleeping | mikkimouse ( @mad-madam-m ) | 13,568 | Teen | Sterek | 5 April 2015 - 13 October 2015

Scott’s mom, Melissa, had given Stiles the basics on Derek’s condition when he’d first come over here a month ago. Derek had been here six years, the only survivor of a horrific house fire that had killed the rest of his family. It had left him burned, half his face puckered with scars, and he’d been in a catatonic state the entire time. Stiles couldn’t even begin to imagine how awful that would be, being trapped in your own body for years on end, all alone.

Stiles had an inkling of how much being alone sucked, anyway.

(An AU in which Derek is the one who was trapped in the fire, and then in the hospital, based on a set of pictures from littlecofiegirl.)

Lepidopterophobia | @hazelandglasz | 1,549 | Gen | Sterek | 14 October 2015

From a list of prompts : “you walked in on me practicing for datda in an empty classroom, and have now inadvertently discovered that my boggart takes the form of a butterfly, please stop laughing”

In This Town We Call Home | @paintedrecs | 9,594 | Mature | Sterek | 25 October 2015

Stiles has always loved Halloween; in the Stilinski-Hale household, it’s officially, no question, his holiday. (Derek can have Christmas, with its lights and cheerful decorations and prickly-needled trees.) This year, though, their daughter’s decided to dress up as Little Red Riding Hood - and there’s really only one choice to play the wolf. The question is: will Derek agree to wear horn-rimmed glasses and a poor excuse for a robe all night? And what’s Stiles’s role in this family outing?

Also known as: a seasonal burst of domestic holiday fluff.

Something Spooky, Something Blue | @crossroadswrite | 2,483 | Gen | Sterek | 31 October 2015

Derek sighs and boredly stuffs a handful of gummi bears in his mouth, straight out of a Halloween candy bowl Aunt Olivia insists in buying every year even if they never get trick or treaters this far into the woods.

He tilts his head and tunes back into the boys’ conversation, which has been the prime time entertainment of the Hales for the past ten minutes or so.

“It’s dark,” one of the boys whines.

“Don’t be a baby, Scott,” the second chastises.

“But, I don’t wanna,” Scott whines, like a baby.

Ghost Blanket and the Wolf | @paintedrecs | 6,434 | Teen | Sterek | 31 October 2015

Derek’s badly in need of hugs, Stiles decides shortly before Halloween. His pack is secure and stable, but he still hovers on its edges, as though not quite sure where he belongs. Will the magic of Halloween night, and a cherished Stilinski tradition, be enough to lift that weight off his shoulders?

The Silent Fury | @andavs, rosepetals42 ( @petals42 ) | 31,750 | Mature | Sterek | 15 August 2015 - 4 November 2015

Derek is about to leave, content with the smell of blood as proof that the Fury is dead when he hears it.

A heartbeat.

It’s faint and uneven and even with its help, it takes Derek a full minute of scanning the clearing before he finally spots the small heap that must be the human. It’s down on the far side of the canyon, almost completely hidden by a tall oak tree and–Derek jumps down before he thinks about it.

He knows what he has to do. Furies are dangerous. Furies are fire and smoke and a funeral he barely remembers. He lands almost silently and makes sure his hands are fully shifted into claws and then slowly moves forward.

Or, a How to Train Your Dragon AU
