is the second album by band Coroner, Released August 1. the band’s performance is more precise and features increased use of slightly more melodic guitar work, as well as a slightly different lyrical style.
Punishment For Decadence is another very high quality release from Coroner, All around this is an incredibly impressive effort, a masterpiece, if you like good classic thrash metal.

“Anonymous said: Do you do death requests? Because if you do, can I request a SITS headcanon -or fanfiction, whatever your preference is- of the SITS guys seeing their MC/loved one/GF die in front off them. Or maybe just hearing about MC dying, if writing about letting the SITS guys /see/ MC dying sounds too brutal to you <:c. Oh! And I did see something about a 4 people limit too, so if you can’t so all of the guys, can I request it be Kyohei, Iori, Kota, and Nagito? Thank you so much!”
Nagito Aoshima Your tall blonde boyfriend dragged you along the busy street of your city. Trying to not trip over things, you tried to keep up with him. His hand grasping yours tightly. The two of you entered different shops and tried different foods. It has been a while since the two of you went on a date like this but it still didn’t seem right. “Nagi.. You know that you’re going to face the wrath of Takashi later on since you skipped your session right?”
“Who cares Y/N! We’re having fun aren’t we? I’ll deal with him later after our date.” He smiled at you. Not wanting to be a kill joy you made sure that the two of you will have lots of fun tonight even though you were going to get scolded by Takashi. He’ll probably even want you to write more lyrics for a whole new album. It will be the punishment you’ll get but now, you didn’t even want to think about the possible outcomes.
“Come on Y/N stop being a slowpoke!” He giggled. “I don’t have the same stamina as you, you know.” You yelled, and tried to catch your breath. You saw a little kid run towards the street and his mother calling out to him. From afar you saw a car and they weren’t planning on slowing down soon. You rushed towards the child and him away it only took a few steps until your body collided with a car, then your vision started to blur and heard Nagito calling your name. The owner of the car ran away from the incident making Nagito fume in anger. If one of the band members were with you guys he would’ve let one of them look after you while he chased out the person who did this.
Nagito knew that he needed to be by your side right now. He called the for some help and said that they’d come right away. “Y/N don’t worry I won’t let go of you hand. Help is on the way. I’m sorry this happened to you Y/N. I-if only we stayed home none of this would’ve happened.” He cried. Raising your dominant hand you wiped his tears away. “None of this was your fault Nagito.” You smiled weakly at him.
The woman kept apologizing and you could see tears rolling down her face as well. Her child also apologized. “Miss, thank you for saving my life… I-i’m sorry you had to save me. But please keep fighting.”
With the rest of your strength you motioned the little boy to come towards you. “Take care good care of your Mom okay? Especially since she’s pregnant, it’ll be really hard for you Mom to move around so behave okay?” The little boy nodded as he cried and hugged his mother. He apologized to Nagito as well. “And Nagito, don’t ever lose your smile, your real smile that I fell in love with. I love you Nagito.”
Nagito didn’t want to accept that you were dying, he kept telling you that you’ll get through this but in the end you couldn’t fight anymore. You’ve lost a lot of blood and it was really hard for you to breath. On the way to the hospital you were pronounced dead. “I’m sorry Y/N. I’m so sorry.” He said at he hung his head looking at the ground. He blamed himself for not being able to run towards you fast enough. He blamed himself for losing his family member.
Iori Enjo A lot of things happened that even Iori can’t quite believe that you were gone. In a minute you were happily smiling at your boyfriend as the two of you watched the fireworks, and then in the next minute your body was cold and limp. Now Iori’s standing in front of your grave with a bouquet of flowers. He visited your grave before he leaves for work and visits you again when he’s done with work.
A few months ago the two of you were having a lovely date, “Thank you Iori for bringing me here.” You never wanted this day to end. “You’re very welcome Orange breath.” He smirked. “I love y-” You were cut off by the loud sound that made everyone look up to the sky. The sound of fireworks masked the sound of gun that shot the back of your head causing you to die in an instant. Iori notice on how quite you were and your body felt limp around him. “Orange breath what’s wrong?” He started to get worried. “Y/N come on this isn’t funny.” He shifted his position and your body fell on the ground. Another firework shot up to the sky and he saw something on your back. When he went to touch it it was wet, he looked at his finger tips and saw blood.
Your outfit was covered in blood, your blood. He crawled to your side and immediately calling the ambulance. They asked him questions on what happened but even he didn’t know himself. Who would do such thing?
“Hey Orange breath, how are you today? Me? I’m.. I’m still in the denial stage. The guys told me that everything will get better soon. How would they know, you’re gone Y/N.” He knelt down and cried. “It’s not the same without you. Nagito is trying his best to cheer us up, but he’s also suffering from losing you. I know they’re all suffering in their own way. Y/N, we love you and miss you very much. We’re still investigation on who would do this to you and I promise you, they will pay for taking an innocent life away.” He smiled sadly at your grave. “I hope you’re happy wherever you are and please continue to look after us. I love you Y/N, I will always love you.” Wiping his tears, he looked up to the sky as if he knew you were watching him.
Kota Igarashi Your boyfriend still had the habit of sending you off whenever he kissed another woman other than you in set. Nevertheless you’d go to a convenient store to grab some drinks and snack. While you we grabbing chips, chocolate bars and a few candy bags, you noticed a very suspicious man. As you went up to pay for the snack are in the small basket. “Give me all your money or this girl dies.” Commanded the man towards the cashier. The man was holding a knife against your neck.
The cashier was scared and gave the money away but before the man left he stabbed you twice around your abdomen area and fled. You covered your two wounds to stop the bleeding. In that moment your phone rang, it’s from Kota. “Y/N where are you? We’re done with the shoot.”
“K-Kota? I..” You weren’t even able to finish your sentence when you coughed out blood. The cashier rushed towards your side. “Miss! Are you okay?!?! Don’t worry I already called the ambulance and they’re on their way!” Kota heard this and he ran out of the place where they were having the shoot for the new movie. He even yelled ‘Hello’ on the phone hoping that someone would answer him on the other line and lucky for him, the cashier picked up the phone. Kota was informed of the current situation and asked him what the name of convenient store was.
Upon hearing the name he searched for the sign of the convenient store. An ambulance came by stopping in front of the store and he knew that’s where you were. The paramedics came out with a woman on the stretcher. “Sir I’m sorry but we have to hurry. Who are you to this woman?”
“SHE’S MY ASSISTANT MANAGER!” He yelled in frustration. “Kota?” You whispered. “I’m here Y/N” He held your hand. “I’m happy to see you one last time before I go.”
“No! Don’t say that Y/N, you’ll be fine..” He was now crying. He acted a lot in movies where he has to cry due to his loved one dying or his loved one leaves him but this time its real, and so are his tears. He wasn’t ready for you to leave him yet. The two of you were suppose to get married and have kids, now how will his future look like without you in it? How is he going to live? “I’m sorry Kota, you know I love you. Tell the guys I’m sorry that I couldn’t say goodbye to them.” Kota was shaking his head from side to side. “I lost a lot of blood Kota.. It’s time for me to go.”
Whispering a final goodbye to him you died right in front of him. The paramedics were sorry for his loss. His head hung long and his bangs covered his eyes. “So this is really goodbye huh… I love you Y/N” He thought to himself.
Kyohei Rikudoh It was their final performance for their tour and this is quite important to them because after this Kyohei promised them a break from Revance. The break will only last for a week before it’s time to go back to work but hey, a week is enough to relax. Everyone was excited therefore they’re going to give it their all today since it’s the final act of their tour.
The concert just started and the band was having so much fun, you could tell by the tone of their voice as they sang and talked to their fans in between their songs. However they were unaware of the circumstances backstage. A man was able to sneak past security and entered backstage with a gun and pointed towards the crew members. ”Nobody move or I will shoot.” Mr. Sasayama recognize the man and said that this man loved causing problems during concerts whether they’re a small band or a big one and he was never caught.
Mr. Sasayama tried to calm the man down but it didn’t work, in fact it did the opposite. The man got mad and pointed the gun towards Mr. Sasayama. “You talk too much.” He pulled the trigger. you body moved on its own and jumped in front of Mr. Sasayama. The sound of the gun going off caught the attention of the band members. By chance their song ended and it was time for them to change their outfit. The moment they walked back stage they saw you in the arms of Mr. Sasayama and confusion was written on their face. “SHE GOT WHAT SHE DESERVED. IT’S HER FAULT FOR JUMPING IN!” The man that shot you got pinned to the ground by the security guards.
Everything clicked and Kyohei ran towards you and looked at how pale you were. “Y/N…” He said holding your hand. “Hey Kyohei. You guys are doing awesome by the way.” At that moment Kyohei told Mr. Sasayama to cancel the concert and that you needed to go to the hospital as soon as possible but you objected. “Kyohei no, I want you to finish the concert and then you guys can come to the hospital.” He didn’t want to upset you and make things worst so he did what you want. “Wait for me okay?” He whispered after letting Mr. Sasayama take care of everything. You didn’t want Kyohei to worry so you didn’t want him to know how badly you were hurting. The bullet very nearly hit your heart and you were quite lucky.
Upon arriving the hospital you were rushed to the emergency room. The doctors tried their best to get the bullet out. The operation took hours and by then the last concert of Revance ended. They rushed to the hospital and waiting outside the emergency room. But when the Doctor came out with sorrowful expression they knew what it mean. “We tried our best, we really did. We lost her a couple of times but we knew how she wanted to fight. However the more she fought, the more it put her life in danger and at the end, we lost her for real.” Kyohei felt his knees go weak. Takashi and Iori were ready to catch him. This happened once when you left him but now you left him for good. He asked the Doctor if he could see you.
When he saw you lifeless on the bed he cried. “I told you to wait for me Y/N, but I’m sorry for being selfish. I knew you wanted to see me one last time but that made it worst. I’m sorry Y/N I really am.” He held your cold hands and promised that he won’t stop until he reached his dream. He asked you to continue to watch him and he apologize for not being there to protect you.
Gwen Stefani’s divorce from her husband, Gavin Rossdale, was recently finalized, and it seems as though the singer is about to address the split in a major way. POPSUGAR hears that, according to a casting call, the singer’s new music video is set to start shooting next week. It will be directed by Sophie Muller, who has previously worked with Gwen on the music videos for her recent singles “Used to Love You” and “Make Me Like You,” and is described as “a very stylized music video / short … shot with a very 1950’s melodrama sensibility.”
The production calls for three main characters; Trudy, a stylish mother; Troy, who is described as a good-looking philanderer; and an attractive young woman as Nanny. This would all be pretty innocuous if not for the alliteration of the character names, or reports that Gavin had been carrying on a years-long affair with the couple’s nanny, Mindy Mann, which caused Gwen to file for divorce back in August 2015.
While it isn’t clear which song from This Is What the Truth Feels Like the visuals are attached to, we wouldn’t be surprised if it was the track “Red Flag” — on the up-tempo song, Gwen lays out the demise of a relationship with lyrics like, “You know how to screw it up,” and, during a bridge, yells, “This is your punishment!” While promoting her album in March, Gwen gave an interview to the New York Times in which she called her split from Gavin “a really juicy story,” saying, “If I could, I would just tell you everything, and you would just be in shock.” Judging by the casting requests for her video, she might be feeling ready to tell all.

“There are many times I do not wish to further elaborate on how tough and difficult this path I took was, because in the future I would have to work even harder. Many people say that I am lucky, so therefore I have to be thankful, but gratefulness cannot be mere lip service. What I can do is to steadily continue forth, not let down those who have expectations of me, so I am continuously trying out challenges, hoping to bring even more surprises to everyone, including myself.”
We heard you really like watching Slam Dunk! Who’s your favourite character? Kaede Rukawa! Because he’s really awesome. Actually Slam Dunk was very influential amongst young people, many started playing basketball after watching Slam Dunk.
When you were young did you dream of becoming someone like Rukawa Kaede? How did you know? At that point in time it was my dream all along to play basketball professionally, but then I did a [bone] test and according to the results I could only grow up to 1.88m, since I could not reach 1.9m I gave it up.
You appear to be very cold and aloof on the outside, but on the inside was your personality influenced by Rukawa Kaede and Hanamichi Sakuragi? Yeah really a little! And also Scorpios are cold on the outside and passionate on the inside, the closer you are to them the more they will be able to open up.
Wu Yi Fan hopes to be remembered by his strengths - acting, singing, dancing… He’s not a flat, ordinary 2D person, but on the contrary is more three-dimensional, with richer experiences of the loneliness of living abroad as a foreigner, and the hardships of being a trainee. He does not wish to be just a pretty flower boy. Not being complacent with things as they are, he is proactive, hardworking, modest, and keen to experience all the surprises and hardships of reality. To date, Wu Yi Fan has acted in at least seven silver screen productions, an enviable feat, compared to many other actors who struggle for many years because they are still unknown, Wu Yi Fan had a good start, to which few can match.
What do you think is your best quality? I think I’m a very strong minded person, and I have very strong will to follow through.
But you’re very lucky, you’ve started off so well (Wu Yi Fan shakes his head) You probably don’t have any obstacles you can’t overcome? There are many times I don’t wish to further elaborate on how tough and difficult this path I took was, because in the future I would have to work even harder. Many people say that I am lucky, so therefore I have to be thankful, but gratefulness cannot be mere lip service. What I can do is to steadily continue forth, not let down those who have expectations of me, so I am continuously trying out challenges, hoping to bring even more surprises to everyone, including myself.
Listening to your skill in speech, [we feel that] you should publish a motivational book. Actually I’ve really thought about this before. Perhaps it is due to the environment that I grew up in, when I was young I was extremely introverted, I didn’t speak much, didn’t know how to make friends. After that there was a period of time where I read a lot of Chicken Soup for the Soul books, hoping that the books could help me change my mindset, and honestly they helped a lot. Me being so positive now has got something to do with those books I read when I was young.
So as you’ve said, the current you is probably very satisfied right? I’m quite satisfied with how things are currently. But this does not mean that I don’t want to improve. People have to be satisfied to a certain degree to be happy long term, many times [we] can’t worry too much over gains and losses, otherwise it would result in a lot of negativity. So I make sure I’m happy every day, this way I’d have a lot of crazy ideas, which would bring to me more motivation and encouragement to continue doing crazy things.
It seems like you’re a person who has been successfully brainwashed by “chicken soup”. I guess it should be said this way, I’m a person who has been by nourished by “chicken soup”.
When this 25 year old man raises his head with a gentle gaze, he has an otherworldly handsomeness. But his Weibo posts have an unexpected change in tone from this image, his humour evident throughout. Unlike other idols who are like beautifully wrapped chocolate sold at supermarkets with a similar taste to their packaging, Wu Yi Fan is instead more similar to fizzling candy, you can’t predict when he will pop, it’s a mix of surprise and playfulness. He said that there is a part of him that has a personality similar to that of a child’s, anticipating the future with a sense of curiosity.
Why do you say that you have a 4D way of thinking? Because I’m someone who completely doesn’t follow norms, on many occasions I won’t be on the same frequency as everyone else, there are times when I say things that others totally don’t understand. For example like lame jokes, there are a lot of people whose reactions are slower by me by half a beat.
What will you do in such situations, will you save the situation by yourself? Occasionally I would save myself, there are many times where others are just slower by half a beat, two seconds later they would find it very funny too.
How did you land yourself the role of a 4D person? When I was on a variety show, I had frequently responded in a way that resulted in the other party being at a loss of what to do, and they’d always say “What kind of situation is this, this guy is kinda silly, but very interesting.” After a long period of time, many fans felt that I really couldn’t carry out an ordinary conversation, which resulted in me being called 4D. But I feel that actually many times I’m not on the same page as everyone else, occasionally even I myself don’t know what I want to express.
You’ve said before that you love yourself a lot, so will you “research" on which angle you look the best? 360 degrees no bad angles! (laughs a lot) Nah, even if I love myself I won’t research which angle I look handsome in, I’m not someone who pays a great deal of attention to my looks.
Then which area do you feel that you pay attention to the most? I pay more attention to the way my appearance is coordinated on the whole, because one’s aura is able to leave a greater impression on others.
Taking a look at the sample shots you did here, we like those where your eyes have feelings in them Photos are a very flat medium, so I really hope to have some emotion and story present in my eyes, this way it will bring the picture to life. If one merely looks good there is not much meaning, I don’t like it if it’s simply handsome. Things with some content are more substantial. There’s no point in being too perfect, beautiful things are things that definitely have to have some imperfections, thus when looking at them [on the whole] everything will look especially harmonious.
Is the new puppy male or female? What is it named? How do you interact with it every day? The puppy is male, its name is Rourou, you guys are first to know about this. I don’t usually spend a lot time to walk the dog, but because it’s still young, as long as it sees me it will be very happy. Only after reading a lot of dog care manuals did I decide to keep a dog. I’m a person who will prepare well in advance. I train it everyday, and within a short period of time it has learned 4 tricks: sit, shake hands (paw), play dead, stand (in punishment).
When do you plan to release your new album? It’s in the midst of preparation, because it’s my first solo album, from producing the songs to MV shooting, I will personally play a part in all of them, so this may only possibly be revealed to everyone next year. For the special feature (I) will be collaborating with an international team, I really hope to bring more surprises to everyone.
In the future when choosing roles, will you try taking up the challenge of playing the antagonist? This will be necessary, every actor aims to take up the challenge of playing different roles. It is then that [they will] have a sense of freshness.
Right now you’re so busy you barely have time to rest, but your physique is still maintained so well, how do you find the time to work out? Squeezing out some time, there will be time [left for exercising]. When it comes to exercising, it can be done anytime anywhere, those who always say that they don’t have the time to work out are giving excuses for their laziness.
If you had several days of vacation what would you like to do the most? The first thing I’d do is sleep in, sleep till I naturally wake up.
How does it feel to have shaven off all your hair for the movie role? It feels very refreshing, with no hair my while body feels light.
Will you prefer a girl who takes care of you more or would you prefer to be the one who’s taking care of her more? Is this very important? If two people mutually like each other, you would enjoy being taken care of by the other person and you too would, out of your own will, take care of the other person too.
At what age do you plan to get married? What will bother you the most while dating? It all depends on when I meet my ideal other half. When we are dating as long as you don’t make me eat vinegar it’s ok, because I don’t like acidic stuff (haha).
What if your favourite scent of perfume on girls? Regarding perfume, I’ll accept any scent, as long as it is not too strong.
Please share with us your ideal partner Filial, understanding girl
Do you still dislike eating fish now? Besides eating fish is there anything else you dislike more? If you don’t like eating fish, how do you deal with it? I don’t eat fish and coriander and I’ve never really thought of dealing with it.

It’s that time again, time to talk about my very favorite music that came out this year!
Christian Loeffler-Young Alaska
Young Alaska is Loeffler’s strongest effort to date, featuring carefully crafted, detail-oriented techno that is equal parts Four Tet, Pantha Du Prince, and a slowly melting glacier. If the album reflects Alaska, it’s Alaska on a sunny day with the temperature just above freezing.
There are few producers as instantly recognizable as Lone. his shimmering, technicolor synths and penchant for lively, house-inflected melodies sets him apart from much of today’s grim, soot-blackened dance music. Hit single and album standout “Airglow Fires” is a perfect encapsulation of the Lone sound.
This Will Destroy You-Another Language
After the radical shift towards drone-based experimentation on 2011’s Tunnel Blanket, TWDY make a return to their more accessible guitar and keyboard driven post-rock, but with a new emphasis on songwriting craft. Another Language shows marked maturation, full of inventive key changes and improved musicianship, particularly from drummer Alex Bhore. TWDY have released consistently good albums for the majority of their career, and their continuing upward trajectory marks them as one of post-rock’s premier bands.
Ben Frost-A U R O R A
A U R O R A is punishing. From the opening screech of album opener “Flex” to the closing Venetian Snares-meets-Aphex Twin freakout “A Single Point of Blinding Light,” Ben Frost has crafted a record that can be overwhelming, practically exhausting to listen to, but also transcendent in its blasts of full-spectrum noise and distorted grandeur.
Rustie really wants to be a hip-hop producer. That much is clear on his followup to the incomparable Glass Swords, one of my all-time favorite albums. The album opens with a double fakeout, two glistening tracks that both feel like intros and indicate that we’re onto something different this time around. Then “Raptor” comes in, the bass drops, and everything goes crazy. Green Language sounds miles ahead of Rustie’s earlier work in terms of sound quality- the songs move and breathe like nothing he’s done before, the musical equivalent of 4K TV versus an old tube set. There may not be many rappers willing to tackle Rustie’s exuberant music, but Danny Brown absolutely slays on “Attak,” the single that perhaps best demonstrates what Rustie was aiming for with this album.
Kangding Ray-Solens Arc
Solens Arc begins with the crackling stomp of “Serendipity March,” taking you down a flight of rusted stairs to a sub-sub-basement rave lit only by blacklights and smartphones- Neuromancer techno. I haven’t heard another album this year as cohesive as Solens Arc, whose dedication to exploring rhythmic darkness stands as a singular achievement.
Animals As Leaders-The Joy of Motion
Prog metal isn’t cool. It’s indulgent, and stuffy, and inaccessible to anybody who hasn’t fantasized about working at a guitar store at some point in their lives. But AAL virtuoso Tosin Abasi is cool. His breathtaking skill and innovative technique are inarguable, but what really sets him and his band apart from their peers are their ability to take even the most treacherous riffs and song structures and turn them into something you can nod your head to. Abasi’s taste as a musician has taken a step forward, focusing on more melodic, lyrical soloing as opposed to the sheer flash of his earlier work. And new drummer Matt Garstka breathes life into the band, the push and pull of his drumming both supporting the guitars and demanding attention, and awe, of its own. Album standout “Lippincott” features some of the coolest guitar playing you’ll hear this year.
Machinedrum- Vapor City Archives
I’ve seen Vapor City Archives described as merely a collection of outtakes from his previous album, or simply more of the same, a vein continuing to be mined to diminishing returns. Its place on my list should indicate how strongly I disagree with these sentiments. If anything, it’s better paced than its predecessor, and album standouts “Boxoff” and particularly “2 B Luvd” are some of the best tracks Machinedrum has produced yet.
It’s new Aphex Twin. That alone should be enough to sell this album, but the fact that it’s solid, gorgeous, and surprisingly accessible make it perhaps the most essential listen of 2014. A triumphant return and a reminder that nobody does it like Richard D. James.
Andy Stott-Faith In Strangers
This marks the second year Andy Stott has topped my favorite-album lists, and it’s with good reason. Faith In Strangers is a breathtaking left turn. It begins with the dolorous horns of “Time Away,” and segues into the heartwrenching, earthshaking “Violence” (which has perhaps the greatest and most ironic exhortation to “clap your hands, clap your hands” in music history). From there we get the gorgeous chorus-in-a-factory “On Oath,” and the propulsive beauty of “Science And Industry.” “No Surrender” is all aggression, and “How It Was” channels Stott’s knack for decayed sound into a surprisingly spry, danceable number. “Damage” is a, well, damaged take on the hip-hop inflected post-dubstep Rustie tacked in Green Language. “Faith In Strangers” is far and away the most surprising track on the album, a straightforward new/no-wave song composed of little else but vocals, live bass, and drum machine. It’s shocking to hear Stott write a pop song. The album closes with “Missing,” a cavernous reduction of Faith In Strangers’ totality, and a fitting end to my favorite record of 2014.
opening cutscene of the game is a man named Jacob Wyles. He’s wearing
a long brown trench coat. It’s raining. He’s walking down the streets
as the credits are rolling. Eventually he’s walking across the street
when a car comes speeding by. Even though you see the driver clearly
trying to break, the rain causes the tires to slip. It hits Jacob and
he dies almost immediately. In this game, you play as Jacob. The next
scene his him waking up “365 days ago.”
matter what you do, the fact that Jacob will die in exactly one year
will not change. However, that is the only thing that will not
change. The game has a lot more in line with something like The Sims,
than the big budget shooters. The theme of choice is what the game
delves into. Jacob is able to do many things in his last year of life
depending on the player’s choice. For example, he can try to rekindle
with his divorced wife and make connections with his currently living
child. Or he can meet someone new and maybe try to start a future
with them. Jacob can become a local hero or a local pariah. He can
get a great new job or become homeless. However, the brown trench
coat doesn’t leave Jacob’s life. Every day it hangs on the coat rack
by the exit door if Jacob doesn’t choose to wear it (it’s one of the
few things in the house he cannot throw out or rearrange). And each
new day begins by telling the date and “x number of days left.”
goal of the game is to question how meaningful a player’s choices
really are.And as such, some of the hardships of designing the game
will come into fruition. The very first thing that a player will try
to do is avoid getting Jacob killed, or try to kill him before the
death date. Many things must be planned around making sure that the
event happens without making the player feel limited—giving them
the illusion of choice in certain places. The tricky part is getting
the player to think about the life, rather than the death. Since that
one thing is the one thing that is certain that will be their focal
point until they are immersed enough to at least temporarily forget
of the ways to circumvent a player trying to circumvent the game is
to use the titular “consequences.” Since the majority of
the game is focused around them, the majority of time and resources
should be used and giving merit to as many actions as possible, and
give them consequences that do not end in death and make sure that
Jacob doesn’t leave town. Sometimes it’s easy: allow Jacob to travel,
but all that would do for the player is cost Jacob’s money and take
away some time (maybe give a boost to a “happiness”
mechanic though.) To make the choice to do that seem more meaningful
and not just like a player punishment though, perhaps fill some photo
albums that can be found around Jacob’s house.
the player decides to do literally nothing, Jacob won’t be making any
money and cannot pay his rent. He has a job and is able to afford
everything he needs, but not everything he wants. The player can see
Jacob work (the game should have a 1 IRL second equals 1 in-game
minute), but always give the player the option to skip forward. It’d
be an interesting experiment to see how often they actually use that
feature, even if nothing significant happened that particular day. If
Jacob can’t pay his rent, then he becomes homeless (wearing that coat
all the time). Another consequence if players decide to start doing
“nothing” later on is that one of Jacob’s friends or
acquantainces may think that he’s depressed and try to get him on the
thing that must be accounted for is that the game needs to stop the
player from trying to kill Jacob, without the game feeling like it’s
restricting them. It would be far too humorous for tone is Jacob
found himself in a reverse “Final Destination” scenario.
There are plenty of alternate scenarios that must be used in this
situation. If Jacob attempts to kill himself, perhaps have him fail
or have him wake up in a hospital, or stopped by a friend. Just
create enough alternate scenarios to make the illusion that the
choice matters. The developers need to be one step ahead of the
player in this scenario.
game isn’t exactly about derping around until doomsday. Jacob does
have needs, most notably a “happiness” meter and how much
money he has. The player can choose to help Jacob get more happiness
and/or earn more money, both of which do have use and where most of
the gameplay should come from. Certain actions will give Jacob more
or less money, and certain actions will give Jacob more or less
happiness. As far a “meters” that should be the most.
There’s no need for something like a morality meter (although doing
something like donating to charity may give a boost to the happiness
meter). The game is not about the afterlife in any way whatsoever.
The end is literally the end.
then, what’s the point of the game if literally nothing you do
ultimately matters? Honestly, that’s for the player themselves to
figure out. People in the real world don’t think about their own
eventual death and choose to ignore it. However, in the realms of a
video game you can give the player and exact time and let them figure
it out in any way that they choose. Jacob can end up living his life
as fully as possible in the short time he has. He can make up with
the people in his past, or say whatever is on his mind. He can do
charitable deeds or try and leave a legacy. Keep in mind though, that
Jacob’s knowledge of his death is not his, and he will not think of
his own death (unless he actually becomes depressed in game). One of
the more fascinating ideas I have for this game is being able to
interact with the man who eventually runs you over.
oddly debatable whether this game should have an ending at
all—besides Jacob getting killed by the car. If it does though,
it’s going to need to have multiple endings. Perhaps a funeral scene
attended by those you interacted with in your last year, followed by
an obituary that reflects your actions. It might reflect the themes
of “what actually matters.” It seems like a difficult game
to make, but if done correctly it could be very moving and would
definitely stray into themes that games don’t usually go into. It
might be able to be done in a movie or book, but it wouldn’t be as
powerful. Here, the player determines how to go about the situation
and how they cope (or fail to) with their eventual death. The player
decides what they would do in the situation of their upcoming death,
whether they do nothing or everything, it’s entirely up to them.
