the other one was quite popular

fancyfade  asked:

1-5 for swtor

Thanks for the ask!

1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?

Quinn x Vette. It’s not among the most popular ships in the fandom, but I’ve seen quite a few people ship it and create content for it. It’s one of the ships that I like the individual characters involved but the idea of them together as a ship gross me out.

Quinn and Vette are not compatible: They dislike each other in canon, not to mention Quinn is a die-hard Imperial who is rather conservative when it comes to Imperial politics, including being approved of slavery, while Vette, with her identity as a non-Force Sensitive Twi’lek girl who is also a former slave, is an underdog in Imperial spaces and thus, she is not compatible with die-hard Imperials.

Quinn and Vette may try to tolerate each other if the Sith Warrior is on good terms with both of them, but the idea of Quinn x Vette as a ship never works for me, even for a crack ship.

2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?

None I can think of.

3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?

Although I have unfollowed people over fandom opinions, it never happened with SWTOR opinions specifically.

4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?

The amount of my NoTPs for SWTOR isn’t small, but for the main ones I would say any ship involving Doc, Pierce or Corso, especially ships that pair them with any woman, since in canon they all have really questionable treatment of women. Female Jedi Knight x Doc, Female Sith Warrior x Pierce and Female Smuggler x Corso all have their own dedicated fanbase in the tumblr SWTOR fandom. By comparison, my other NoTPs, such as Quinn x Vette, have smaller fanbase.

I don’t care for male player x female love interest pairings in SWTOR or any other BioWare game in general, but Male Sith Warrior x Dark Side!Jaesa deserves a special mention for the sheer amount of (cishet) male power fantasy writing in the “romance” arc and DS!Jaesa’s character arc in general. It’s not a popular pairing on tumblr, but it’s very popular in the general SWTOR player base, since there are many dudebros among the general player base.

5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?

Sith Warrior x Pierce, especially Female Sith Warrior x Pierce.

I could rant forever about how Pierce stans and are among the most unpleasant Quinn haters in the fandom. They act like just because Pierce never betrays the Sith Warrior it makes Pierce a better person than Quinn, and how Pierce is such a “real man” compared to Quinn. Pierce stans love to drag Quinn through the mud but they refuse to acknowledge the unsavoury shit their fave has done (the Lorant thing being the most prominent example), and that their fave is not any more progressive than Quinn when it comes to Imperial politics. The “Female Sith Warrior cheating on Quinn with Pierce/having revenge sex with Pierce” is also one of my most hated SWTOR fanon tropes.

The sheer amount of vitriol the shippers have displayed towards Quinn has completely soured me on this ship, and Pierce himself as well, to the point that I actively hate Pierce, SW x Pierce and Pierce stans.

musicals as kids you knew in high school

Les Mis: dramatic foreign exchange kid who plays up their own country’s stereotypes to mess with the other students. Huge heart; cries at the end of literally every movie. In with the popular kids.

The Book of Mormon: the most politically incorrect kid you’ve ever met. Whenever they say anything, you wait a few moments and look around at the other students to make sure it’s okay to laugh. You sometimes lay awake thinking about things they’ve said because they’re right.

Newsies: that poor freshman who still hasn’t hit puberty yet. Has a friend group of other woefully prepubescent boys. Think Sam and Company in Freaks and Geeks. They sit in a corner of the lunchroom and hope the athletes won’t find them. Is very vocal about how much they hate the school and won’t shut up about transferring to some school in New Mexico. Ran for student government as a freshman and won, shocking everyone.

Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812: Transferred to your high school for only a year, but no one will ever forget them. Was responsible for planning the legendary senior prank that resulted in the principal running from the school screaming. Eventually got expelled. Some students blame it on racism drama that 1812 themselves actually had nothing to do with; most people understand that this rumor is false.

Waitress: the kid who decorates their binder covers with glittery letters and hums while they organize their locker. Spends free time volunteering: not for their resume, but out of the goodness of their heart. Punched the school bully once and nearly went viral. Is actually reasonably popular–partially because they’re friends with popular junior Sara B., but mostly because they’re such a great person.

Hamilton: the freshman kid who somehow manages honor roll academics, five extracurriculars, a part-time job, a small nonprofit, a mental illness, and a dog. Is legendary for sassy one-liners. Carries speakers everywhere and dances on tables in the cafeteria, getting everyone to sing along. Is somehow really, really popular; some of the other kids are salty.

Rent: the artistic/political kid. Senior who the other kids look up to. Openly responsible for the controversial political graffiti in the bathroom. Got suspended once for protesting the student dress code: the only thing the handbook actually says is that you must wear shoes at all times, so they just showed up to school naked. Is low-key Hamilton’s idol. Like Newsies, also won’t shut up about transferring to some school in New Mexico.

Wicked: the other artistic/political kid, though slightly more on the political side. The kid with all the pins on their messenger bag. Their Facebook is full of social justice rants and emotional videos shared from liberal media pages. Is probably going to become president.

Dear Evan Hansen: the kid who’s really quiet irl, but has ten thousand followers on Tumblr and is a minor online celebrity. On Facebook, posts inspirational quotes in pretty fonts with nature backgrounds and gets maybe two or three likes. Draws on arms with Sharpie during class. Is also somehow in with the popular kids, but chooses not to hang out with them.

Little Shop of Horrors: the kid who is really sweet but whom you suspect is kinda internally unbalanced. Has a dark sense of humor; makes quiet jokes sometimes that no one else hears, but you do, and you’re terrified. Bonds with Dear Evan Hansen over plant obsession.

Heathers: other slightly unbalanced kid, though they’re more obvious about it. Is basically Ally Sheedy in The Breakfast Club. Sometimes wears rollerskates to school; listens to podcasts and wears headphones everywhere and only takes them off to fight bullies. Actually still uses an iPod. Not really in with the popular kids, but does have a gaggle of admirers among the younger students.

Be More Chill: the kid who works in the computer cluster. Is quite a jokester in general, so people don’t know whether or not to be worried by their self-deprecating jokes. Is in Yearbook and swaps out the class portraits of people they don’t like with the most unflattering pictures in the world. Almost sent that version to print once and had a panic attack in the bathroom. Is actually rather famous for said panic attack in the bathroom. Has an unexpected friendship with Heathers

Falsettos: the senior kid always making snarky but surprisingly philosophical comments at the back of the class. Insists that all everyday objects are metaphors. Always looks to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown. No one understands how everyone in their friend group knows each other. Tried to run for student government, but tragically lost to popular homecoming queen Dolly Midler.

The 9 kinds of people with kins

Type 1: has literally one kin but it completely defines them

Type 2: has 2-5 kins and a deep and complex canon for all of them

Type 3: gets a new kin every time they watch a new show

Type 4: has so many kins they have to keep them written down somewhere, and will every now and again think “oh yeah i forgot i was kin with X”

Type 5: has been stuck in a specific kin shift for so long they’ve forgotten about their other kins

Type 6: only has otherkins and no fickins so feels slightly isolated from the kin community

Type 7: the one that does kin drama

Type 8: has quite a few kins but basically no complex canon for them, just casually kins and doesn’t understand kin drama

Type 9: the edgy one that calls any double “fakes” and mocks other people’s kins

Venus Signs and How They Attract People

*Note: placements are interpreted without a house influence and as if they were unaspected, other placements in a chart can affect how Venus manifests in one’s chart. Feminine pronouns are used for Venus because I view her as a feminine planet, all gender identities have a functional Venus.

Venus in Aries: By doing her own thing. Venus in Aries is notoriously hard to catch because of her tendency to incite feelings of attraction in others when she’s being completely oblivious to their existence. Often a strong presence that draws in others wherever she goes, Venus in Aries tends to make other people follow her in whatever direction she’s heading, even if she doesn’t know what direction that is herself. Because of her individuality and strong self-esteem that is rooted only in her own opinion of herself, only the most persistent, strong willed, or accommodating of suitors can catch her. She is, however, as present in a relationship as she is hard to catch since once set on a path for love, is completely on that one path.

Venus in Taurus: By being classy. Venus in Taurus often gets a reputation for being materialistic because she appreciates the things that money can buy. This, however, is also where her charming sense of style and strong personal values come from. Venus in Taurus doesn’t want to hear cheap talk or see displays of machismo, she holds out for the suitor whose actions show her love and on whom she can rely. Love is great, but Venus in Taurus tends to fall in love with security. Venus in Taurus also tends to be the most comfortable of all the Venus signs in her own body which often leads others to want to touch her because of her naturally well-built form.

Venus in Gemini: By being the whole package. Venus in Gemini, as per her reputation, can be a bit all over the place and a jack of all trades, but this gives her a wide variety of skills to utilize and topics to discuss. She tends to attract people by being inquisitive and genuinely interested in what others say. As a result, she can talk to anyone about anything, at least until they bore her. She’s never boring, but she also can get bored quite easily and only suitors that can either roll with how fast-paced she is or give her a lot of freedom can keep her around. Tending to be one of the more popular Venus signs, Venus in Gemini has no shortage of interests or people interested in talking to her.

Venus in Cancer: By caring about family values. Venus in Cancer tends to be, more so than other placements, a product of her environment. It’s not that she can’t think for herself, it’s just that she doesn’t see the point in trying to do something a new way if an old way works. Because of this, she tends to attract people with her old-fashioned charm and by genuinely caring about the well-being and emotional state of those around her. Because of her inclination towards valuing her own family, Venus in Cancer can be a bit standoffish to strangers but there’s nobody more fiercely devoted to those she cares about. Potential suitors may be scared off by the ferocity at which she defends her pack, but that won’t stop those who truly value her love.

Venus in Leo: By being fabulous. Venus in Leo can be a bit of a diva at times, but that’s just because she has a strong sense of self-worth and is very creative. This worth can sometimes dip when she receives criticism, but that only drives her to seek out only those who can truly appreciate her in her natural attractiveness. Because of her grand self-image, she’s also notably generous with what she has and despite how much of a diva she may seem really wants others to like her. However, she’s not the type to take any crap from anyone which makes her appear like quite the prize to be won. Only suitors who are willing to treat her like the royalty she knows is are worthy of being in her royal family where she can continue being her creative self.

Venus in Virgo: By always being prepared and organized. Venus in Virgo is predictably well groomed and while she typically isn’t the vain type, she takes a lot of care to take care of her body and as a result is often in glowing shape. She tends to attract people with her constant preparedness and timeliness which tells others that she values their time and effort. While this placement is notably picky, it’s a way of winnowing out suitors who won’t value how much effort she puts into everything and may take her service-oriented nature for granted.

Venus in Libra: By wanting to understand other people. Venus in Libra tends to have a very inviting appearance that corresponds to her inviting personality. It’s easy to talk to a Venus in Libra because she is very other-oriented and values what other people need, often to her own detriment. Because Venus in Libra can also be somewhat averse to heavy emotions, she often finds herself in a situation where she has to smile and listen despite how the conversation is making her uncomfortable because she cares that the other person gets heard even when they aren’t listening to her at all. As a result, Venus in Libra tends to fall for the lighthearted and fun types, those who can help her find the beauty and balance in the world and naturally give as much as they take.

Venus in Scorpio: By being mysterious. Venus in Scorpio gets a reputation for being mean, but it’s because she really values the transformation cycle. People are naturally intimidated by the depth at which she can go into the emotional realm but that slight uneasiness and curiosity is what draws them in. While she may seem unfriendly, it’s mostly because she loves very, very deeply and only wants to share that with someone who she feels deserves that amount of devotion. Incredibly loyal and the type of person who will never give up on someone, her emotional resolution will only be admitted to suitors who can handle both all of the pain and love she can bring. Most cannot handle the self-reflection they are required to do in her presence because it can be painful, but the breaking down of old systems is what allows for pure, steel-strong love to develop between her and her chosen love.

Venus in Sagittarius: By making jokes. Venus in Sagittarius is one of the liveliest Venus placements and she is able to lighten up just about any situation with her effervescent humor. She often has a passion for a world where good triumphs over evil and through her own sense of right and wrong she often galvanizes others to see the world through her worldly lens. Venus in Sagittarius has a knack for attracting people who come from cultures very different from her own and is interested in what insights other perspectives can offer her. As a result, only those who are deep enough to ponder life’s mysteries but also light-hearted enough to laugh at how small we as people are in the context of such a big world can truly win her heart. Winning, however, may not last forever since she is known for having shorter, more intensely passionate relationships in which two individuals come together and change each other’s lives forever, but don’t necessarily stay together.

Venus in Capricorn: By being a boss. Now, Venus in Capricorn doesn’t necessarily have to have already achieved her ambitions to start attracting others, it’s her natural sense of drive and desire to be on top of the world that attracts others to her. She’s not afraid to do what it takes to get her way and others are likely to either respect her for her tenacity or scoff at her because they’re unwilling to put in the same amount of effort she does. She also has a tendency of using how others respect her to her advantage which may leave more dreamy and romantic partners in a daze, but because she’ll test devotion like no other, when she’s committed you can be sure it’s one iron lock of a commitment. She values what others are willing to do for her and in turn she makes them feel valuable for what they have control over (their actions) rather than things that are out of their control (what they’re born with).

Venus in Aquarius: By being quirky. Now, Venus in Aquarius can range from being a total oddball to being incredibly popular, but both  manifestations do so by having an opinion that’s a little different from everyone else’s. It’s kind of hard not to like her because she moves to the beat of her own drum and isn’t afraid to go against the mainstream. Her unwillingness to conform, however, makes her very difficult to get close to because conventional means of approach are often ignored. She may seem a bit standoffish and is generally more interested in ideas than feelings but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t care about people. She just prefers to do so in a more broad way and leave individual emotional care to those who are more adept at it. Only suitors who are ok being close on an intellectual level can ever really be with her.

Venus in Pisces: By being sweet. Venus in Pisces can be a bit naïve, happily oblivious to “reality” and may have very transient emotions, but it’s hard for people to dislike how genuine she is. While it may seem like her constantly crying about how the sky is falling or (while also crying) talking about how beautiful life is over the top, she genuinely feels every emotion she observes. Sometimes, Venus in Pisces may even seem too delicate for this harsh earth, but she inspires others with such emotion that the feel the need to rescue her whenever she’s in trouble. She also may get a reputation for being a liar or playing with people’s emotions, but while she may change how she feels very quickly, she feels it genuinely in that moment which can confuse lovers who see her both madly in love with them and also despairing over their bad side all in a matter of hours and sometimes even minutes. Despite her volatility, moments of true love is rare, and the degree to which she can devote herself is unparalleled, for better or for worse, and suitors can’t help but try for a chance at a taste of it.

I thought that the role [of Daario Naharis] was supercool. And I thought the world in which Daario lives, the world of the dragons, was one of the coolest and sexiest in the whole show. I don’t think I realized the extent of the show’s popularity at the time, funnily enough. I had seen quite a bunch of episodes, and after I was cast, I watched everything again. But I know how its popularity has helped me in the last year to land other roles that maybe before weren’t really in the cards for me yet.

Common Misconceptions About the Goddess Hekate

Many of these misconceptions can be very popular, but have no historical backing.

-She is a “crone goddess”
This misconception probably comes from more recent literary representations of her. In Ancient Greek religion she was always portrayed as a young maiden.

-She is a “triple goddess” or the Triple Goddess
The Triple Goddess is a purely modern creation/belief. This concept of deity was created in the mid 1900s along with Wicca. Since Hekate predates Wicca and neo-pagan movements by about 2,000 years, she couldn’t really be the Triple Goddess. She is not a Wiccan deity, so therefore, she would not be defined or characterized by a Wiccan concept of deity. While she is commonly portrayed as three women, that was only to depict her domain over the three way crossroads, unlike the Triple Goddess whose aspects each represent a different thing.

-Hekate is not a witch goddess
This is so far from true. Even if this role isn’t one of her original roles, such as the ones described by Hesiod, this aspect did become quite prevalent later in the Hellenic world. The evidence of her role as a witch goddess is very commonly portrayed in Ancient Greek literature and mythos. Kirke and Medea, arguably two of the most popular witches ever, were both priestesses, or in some cases daughters, of Hekate. Whenever witches performed their magic such as necromancy, binding spells, curses, image magic, and other spells, they called on Hekate. This relationship between witches and Hekate is not only shown in Greek literature but in Roman literature as well such as the tale of the witch Erichtho is Lucan’s Pharsalia.

-Hekate is JUST a witch goddess
Though her role as a witch goddess is probably the most popular in literature and with neo pagans and Wiccans, this is far from her only aspect. As described by Hesiod, she was a goddess of the heavens, the earth, and the sea, and a child protector. She was also known to be a goddess of the crossroads and the dead. She guards the gates to the underworld and holds dominions over the daemones (spirits) and ghosts. She also later became a goddess of the moon and is celebrated every dark moon at her Deipnon.

-Hekate is evil
This is more of a modern literary misconception. The Ancient Greeks did not believe in gods of pure good or pure evil. Each deity had aspects of both. The power to create or destroy. To bless or to curse.

Hi Carrie. I don't know if you're doing prompts or anything but I needed to ask anyway. You're always able to help me when I need it (when my mum was diagnosed with cancer and when I broke my elbow). I had to have my 12 year old German Shepherd put to sleep last night (April 28th) and I feel so empty and lost now. I don't know what to do and I was hoping you could write something to cheer me up/help/distract me?

i’m so sorry to hear about your dog. this is a little late, but i’ve been travelling and stuff and i’ve only seen this message just now. sending you lots of love, and i hope this ficlet cheers you up a bit

Derek loves his family, he really does. But sometimes he wishes they weren’t so… weird. And it’s not that he doesn’t have fun at the annual Hale-Extravaganza, the ridiculous family reunion that they hold every summer at Lake Bellasue. When he was a kid, he looked forward to it every year, how all the Hales from all over the country would gather and he’d get to see his favorite cousin from Texas and see Aunt Jo and Uncle Monty argue over jam and his grandma would make all the best food. It’s two weeks of potato-sack races, scavenger hunts, s’mores, swimming, and more, and the only time Derek sees his cousins and stuff.

Even if they weren’t werewolves, they’d still be weird. For instance: Derek is wearing a bright pink t-shirt (Cora’s design, this year) that proudly declares HALE PACK WEST COAST BEST COAST because in about an hour he and the other kids (Derek is twenty-two years old, and he can’t believe he still has to play all these games) on his team are gonna face off against the cousins from New York.

The matching t-shirts, Derek could probably explain. There are a lot of families who do that. There’s at least two other reunions (none quite as large as the Hales) at this lake, which is a popular vacation destination. Derek’s never took much notice of the other people there; just usually kids on spring break from the local college partying and swimming and racing around on jetskis and stuff.

But this year is different.

“Hey, Derek!”

Oh, fuck, he’s shirtless again. Derek can see every one of his moles playfully scattered across his chest. There’s a mole right on his hip, and Derek freezes.

“Hi,” he manages, his throat closing up. Derek is painfully aware that there is glitter on his cheeks, and probably mashed potatoes still in his hair, and he’s wearing mismatched flipflops.

Theoretically, Derek should be annoyed by Stiles– everything from the backwards hat, the board shorts, the litany of “dudes” that flow from his mouth, the fact that he is one of the obnoxious spring breakers. But the first time they ran into each other, Stiles immediately got into an argument about him about Star Wars (Derek absolutely does not count the extended universe as canon, and Stiles does), and then proceeded to help Derek’s two year old niece tie her shoe and well… Derek is, for the lack of better word, very, very distracted this family reunion.

Seattle Rains

Pairing: Jughead x Reader

Description: A new girl brings rainstorms to Riverdale, and more specifically, more rain in Jughead’s world.

Warnings: none

A/N: I’m sorry I haven’t been writing requests, but this idea popped in my head and I decided to write it.  Hope you all enjoy!

He only saw her when it was raining.  Maybe it was pure coincidence, or maybe it was a sign.

The first time he met her was a rainy Monday afternoon.  It was the first day of their freshman year in Riverdale High.  Jughead continuously announced to anxiety-ridden Archie and Betty that he was not nervous at all.  He would never admit it, but there was a twinge of fear in his stomach as he walked through the doors of his new school.

The day became a blur in his memories, nothing especially memorable occurring.  Except one thing: her.

(Y/N) had just moved to Riverdale from Seattle, so her rainy first day of school in a small town helped her transition from the large city she was used to.  She sat in her last class of the day, English, when the rain began to pour even harder.  Right as the bell signaling the beginning of class rang, one last boy walked through the door.

Jughead knew that, by being late, he wouldn’t get a seat in the back of the classroom that he craved.  There was only one vacant seat left next to a girl he didn’t recognize.  He sat down next to her, slumping in his chair.

“You’re new, aren’t you?” he whispered as the teacher explained the syllabus.  (Y/N)’s head shifted to look at him out of the corner of her eye, shocked that someone had spoken to her.  She had been ignored all day.

“Yeah,” she confirmed his suspicions.  "How did you know?“

"This is a small town,” Jughead answered.  "Everyone knows everyone.“

"Right,” she muttered, turning her focus back to the teacher.  Jughead, however, continued to stare at the new girl.

“I’m Jughead,” he introduced himself.  "Jughead Jones the third.“

"The third?” (Y/N) quietly laughed.

Jughead shrugged.  "Yeah,“ he responded.  A smile grew on his face.  "It’s funny, though, because most people laugh at my name being Jughead.”

“I think it’s cool,” she complimented.  "I’m (Y/N).“

"Well, (Y/N),” Jughead said, “what’s the-”

“Mr. Jones!” their teacher suddenly interrupted their conversation.  "Ms. (Y/L/N)! Please, no talking while I’m speaking!“

Jughead and (Y/N) muttered ashamed apologies, and with a satisfied nod, the teacher turned back to the board.  Jughead shifted in his chair so that he was slightly facing (Y/N).

"I was gonna ask what’s the best burger you’ve ever eaten,” he explained quietly.  "But that’s a stupid question, because I’m gonna introduce you to a burger that’ll put every other thing you’ve ever eaten to shame.“

"Oh really?”

“Definitely,” he smirked.  "Have you ever been to Pop’s diner?“

The rain reduced to a drizzle as Jughead and (Y/N) walked from school to Pop’s.

"You’re sure you don’t need an umbrella?” Jughead asked for the hundredth time.

(Y/N) laughed, “For the last time, Jughead, I’m fine.  I’m from Seattle; I can handle a bit of rain.”

Jughead’s umbrella offers died down after that, and the two quickly arrived at Pop’s.  They entered the diner, Jughead leading her towards his favorite booth. He sent subtle waves towards all the beaming waitresses who greeted him.

“Someone’s popular,” (Y/N) commented as she and Jughead sat down across from each other.

“I come here quite often,” he shrugged.

A waitress approached the table and asked for their orders.  Immediately, before (Y/N) could even open her mouth, Jughead ordered two cheeseburgers.  About ten minutes later, the same waitress carried out two baskets.  She set one in front of both Jughead and (Y/N).  Jughead watched as (Y/N) picked up her burger.

“Are you gonna eat yours?” she asked before she took her first bite.

Jughead shook his head. “Not until I see your reaction,” he said, biting back a smirk.  (Y/N) shrugged and nonchalantly took a bite.  As her tongue registered the beautifully charred beef mixed with the freshly melted cheddar, topped with refreshing tomatoes and lettuce, Jughead broke out into a grin.

“This is so good,” she moaned, taking more bites of her burger.

“I told you,” Jughead laughed.

“We’re gonna come back here every day and get these, right?” (Y/N) asked, between burger bites. Jughead’s grin widened.

“Whenever you want.”

Riverdale was rainy for that entire week.  On Thursday, their English teacher assigned their first project of the year, splitting the class into pairs.  As if answering both of their prayers, the English teacher paired up (Y/N) and Jughead. They decided to start the project that night, agreeing to meet at (Y/N)’s house.

“I’m sorry about all the boxes,” (Y/N) apologized as they entered her bedroom.  “I still haven’t finished unpacking.”

“It’s no problem at all,” Jughead waved it off.  “My place is even messier, and I can’t make up excuses about having just moved here.” (Y/N) laughed and shook her head, sitting on her bed.  Jughead chose to remain standing, scanning (Y/N)’s room.  He glanced at her pastel blue walls, the simply-framed windows covered by pale white curtains.  He walked in front of the window.

“I think you brought Seattle weather with you to Riverdale,” Jughead commented, pulling (Y/N)’s wispy curtains aside to look at the rainstorm outside her window.  She rose from her bed and walked over to stand next to him.

“Good,” she muttered.  He turned to face her and raised his eyebrows. “I like the rain.”

“So do I,” he agreed, “but this is excessive.”

“No such thing.”

Even without the project, Jughead and (Y/N) frequently met up.  Whether it be the drive in, (Y/N)’s house, or Pop’s, the two always tried to make time for each other.

A month after they met, Jughead decided to introduce (Y/N) to his other two best friends: Archie and Betty.

It was drizzling on a Wednesday when they met in Pop’s, both Archie and Betty immediately adoring (Y/N).

“You must be (Y/N),” Betty smiled, sticking out her hand to shake.  (Y/N) beamed as she happily shook Betty’s hand.  “I’m Betty Cooper.”

“And I’m Archie Andrews,” Archie greeted, choosing to simply wave at (Y/N) rather than shake her hand.

“I’m (Y/N),” she introduced herself, laughing, “but it seems that you already knew that.”

“Jughead talks about you a lot,” Betty giggled, causing (Y/N) to smirk at Jughead.

“Oh really?” she inquired, and Jughead rolled his eyes.

“She’s never gonna let that go,” he complained to Betty and Archie.  “Thanks a lot.”

The four quickly fell into a casual conversation, (Y/N) fitting into the friend group with ease. It felt like she had always been with them in Riverdale.  Archie and Betty noticed the obvious chemistry between her and Jughead, and throughout the dreary evening, Archie and Betty exchanged knowing glances as they observed (Y/N) and Jughead’s interactions.  Neither of them said anything, but instead, they chose to just sit and watch Jughead and (Y/N) slowly but surely fall in love.

After two more months, Betty and Archie grew frustrated with the lack of progression in Jughead and (Y/N)’s relationship.  Riverdale had grown too cold for it to rain anymore, but the snow, in Jughead’s mind, still counted as rain.  It was only frozen.

He hadn’t seen (Y/N) in a while outside of school, both of them too busy.  (Y/N) became buried under her heavy academic burden, and Jughead grew immersed in his writing.  They hadn’t grown apart, they just didn’t grow any closer, much to Betty and Archie’s dismay.

A bitter and cold February passed through Riverdale, and it was during that month that (Y/N) finally met Kevin Keller.  It had been four months since Betty and (Y/N) had met, and the two of them grew very close.  Not as close as (Y/N) and Jughead, but Betty was definitely (Y/N)’s go-to girl.

“You’re gonna love Kevin,” Betty assured her as they sat in Betty’s pastel pink room.

“If you insist,” (Y/N) smiled.  A light knock on the door caught their attention, and they whipped their heads around to see Kevin entering Betty’s bedroom.

“I finally have the privilege to meet the famous (Y/N) (Y/L/N),” he grinned.

“Kevin Keller,” she laughed. “It’s nice to finally meet you.”

“Likewise,” he said, sitting down next to her.  “God, I’ve been dying to meet you ever since Betty started talking about how cute you and Jughead were together.”

“Together?” she lightly scoffed, playfully rolling her eyes.  “Jughead and I are just friends.”

“And you like it that way?” Betty questioned with a smile tugging at her lips.

(Y/N) hesitated for a split second.  “Of course,” she answered.

“You hesitated,” Kevin immediately noted.  (Y/N) released an exasperated sigh.

“I don’t know,” she shrugged.  “I never really thought about it that way.”

“Well maybe you should start considering it,” Betty suggested.  “I’ve known Jughead for years, and I’ve never seen him look at someone the way he looks at you.”

The rest of winter breezed through, and soon April showers began to roll into Riverdale.  It was the rainiest spring they ever had, but it came to no shock to Jughead.  He stood by his belief that (Y/N) brought the Seattle rain with her.

With spring came more free time for (Y/N) and Jughead, allowing them to begin to meet up more often. Their relationship picked up where they had just left off, except with a small alteration.  Jughead couldn’t quite pick up what had changed between the two of them, but (Y/N) knew exactly what it was.

They sat in her bedroom again.  It was a typical scene, but something was different.  The sun was out for what felt like the first time since they met.  Something had shifted in their relationship, and neither (Y/N) nor Jughead knew how to express it.

“The sun’s out,” Jughead gave his daily weather report.  (Y/N)’s eyes lazily flicked towards her window, watching the beams of light float into her room.

“Yes,” she replied simply.

“I don’t think it’s been sunny since you’ve moved here,” he joked, forcing out a laugh.  (Y/N)’s fingers twiddled with the soft fabric of her bed.  Jughead sighed at her lack of response.  They sat in silence for a couple minutes, Jughead continuing to stare out the window and (Y/N) fidgeting on her bed.  Finally, (Y/N) stood up and crossed her arms over her chest as she ventured next to Jughead.

“It was very rude, you know,” she drawled, earning a confused look from Jughead, “that you made me fall in love with you.  Inconsiderate, really.”

A split second of silence passed as Jughead tried to collect his wits.

“Not what you had in mind?”  He smirked.

(Y/N) shrugged.  "Quite inconvenient, actually.“

"I’m not sorry,” he stated, stepping closer to her. He tenderly placed a hand on her cheek.

“Me neither,” she whispered, her gaze focused on his lips.

Without any more hesitation, Jughead brought (Y/N)’s face towards his and pressed his lips against hers, just a feather-light kiss.  She wrapped her arms around his neck in a desperate attempt to deepen the kiss, like a flower craving the thirst-quenching rain.

“You know,” Jughead disconnected their lips, “I lied about liking the rain.”

“Really?”

“Yeah,” he nodded, smiling.  "I just pretended to like it for you.  I actually hate the rain.“

Planetary partners: Mercury and the sun

Aries Mercury: the Pisces with Aries Mercury will start their thoughts by saying “I feel…”  They are prone to emotional displays in their communication, and likely react strongly to what they sense.  The Aries with Aries Mercury is direct, honest, and uncomplicated.  They do not waste their time trying to frame what they have to say in a polite way, and they are probably offensive without meaning to.  The Taurus with Aries Mercury is quiet for the most part, but will usually react strongly to the things they do discuss. They tend to respond more to negative things than positive ones.

Taurus Mercury: the Aries with Taurus Mercury is a better listener than the typical Aries.  They are considerate and wait for others to finish, but still probably talk about themselves.  The Taurus with Taurus Mercury is the strong, silent type, listening and caring but preferring to keep their comments to themselves.  The Gemini with Taurus Mercury is responsive and friendly, listening intently and forming an appropriate response before they move on to the next thing.

Gemini Mercury: the Taurus with Gemini Mercury wis friendly, interested, and supportive.  They have a tendency to be more optimistic and light-hearted than the typical Taurus, and they prefer pleasant subjects of conversation.  The Gemini with Gemini Mercury wis charming before anything else.  Intelligent and adaptable, they rarely stick to one subject for long.  The Cancer with Gemini Mercury is slightly withdrawn and highly reactive.  They respond to intellectual discussions with their emotions.

Cancer Mercury: the Gemini with Cancer Mercury is a more shy, introverted Gemini, who keeps their intelligent thoughts to themselves.  They do not share unless prompted to, although they are rather eloquent.  The Cancer with Cancer Mercury wis moody, and, like the Gemini with Cancer Mercury, often changes their minds.  They secretly (or not so secretly) crave drama.  The Leo with Cancer Mercury is a highly reactive, dramatic individual. They are self-centered and mostly like to talk about their own stuff, and they often highjack conversations.

Leo Mercury: the Cancer with Leo Mercury is flirtatious and charismatic. They are a big personality publicly but much quieter at home.  They tend to draw attention themselves, not always intentionally.  The Leo with Leo Mercury, on the other hand, very intentionally draws attention to themselves. They are not necessarily loud, but they are commanding, and they expect people to pay attention to what they have to say.  The Virgo with Leo Mercury is rather at conflict with themselves.  They draw attention to themselves and then feel guilty about it.

Virgo Mercury: the Leo with Virgo Mercury is analytical and likable.  They are quiet, but somehow always attract attention.  They are loyal and calm but can be rather placid.  The Virgo with Virgo Mercury is highly intelligent and often thinks about others and what they can do to help them.  They are usually right and are very level-headed about everything.  The Libra with Virgo Mercury is the ultimate manic pixie dream girl. They are cute, distant, and unique, but they can be excessively impersonal.

Libra Mercury: the Virgo with Libra Mercury is enthusiastic and popular.  There is a lot more to them than meets the idea, and they are often much more pessimistic than they initially seem.  The Libra with Libra Mercury is friendly and charming, always able to make people like them.  They can come off as fake, and they are often excessively or inappropriately positive.  The Scorpio with Libra Mercury is the ultimate charmer.  They are magnetic and easily intrigue others with their pleasant dispositions and underlying mysteriousness.

Scorpio Mercury: the Libra with Scorpio Mercury is less people-pleasing than the typical Libra.  They are fair and cautious, and are never impolite but always stand up for what they believe in.  The Scorpio with Scorpio Mercury is dark and brooding.  They attract and crave attention but are unsure of what to do with it.  They like secrets–both theirs and others.  The Sagittarius with Scorpio Mercury is a very deep person.  There is something special about them, but they are very relaxed and calm.

Sagittarius Mercury: the Scorpio with Sagittarius Mercury is a true intellectual. They are easy-going, passionate, and adventurous.  They become easily interested in a few subjects and learn everything about them.  The Sagittarius with Sagittarius Mercury is quite the charismatic character.  Lively and zestful, they are attractive to others and quite popular.  The Capricorn with Sagittarius Mercury has a rich inner world and a perceptive eye.  They are often loud and dominating in big groups but quieter and more observant in one-on-one interactions.

Capricorn Mercury: the Sagittarius with Capricorn Mercury is wise and graceful.  They are highly intelligent and strategically clever, and they are easily admired.  They enjoy discussion and are very factual.  The Capricorn with Capricorn Mercury is quite conservative.  They are dry and straightforward, usually preferring to keep to more concrete subjects.  They may be a bit old-fashioned.  The Aquarius with Capricorn Mercury is deep and introverted. They are good friends and listeners, but they can be fairly black and white.

Aquarius Mercury: the Capricorn with Aquarius Mercury enjoys being a part of a group.  They excel at places like dinner parties, where there is a communal thought, and they can be very interesting.  The Aquarius with Aquarius Mercury is strong and smart.  They are honest and thorough and talk in that unique way that very smart people do.  The Pisces with Aquarius Mercury is quite far out there.  They are intense, private individuals who are very unpredictable and hard to understand.

Pisces Mercury: the Aquarius with Pisces Mercury is a bit of an oddball. Highly intelligent and equally erratic, they are extremely hard to follow.  They are easily inspired by others and have a lot of reverence.  The Pisces with Pisces Mercury is distant and dreamy.  They are also a bit confusing, but in more of a charming, less awkward way.  There is something likable about them.  The Aries with Pisces Mercury communicates with their feelings.  They never hide the way they feel, and their reactions make their true opinions pretty obvious.

“It’s dangerous to go alone! Take this.”

Hi, everyone! If you’re like me and you love a good game soundtrack or a great playlist of all sorts of game music, this is the masterpost for you. I’m one of those people who studies better with some music in the background, and what better way of making a study session more enjoyable than by listening to the soundtrack of your favourite game?

Why listen to music while you study?

Multiple studies have proven that certain students who listen to music while they study perform better academically. Unfortunately, it’s not for everyone, so you should really figure out if this is the right method for you before commiting yourself to it! The main arguement for studying with music is that research has proved that listening to classical music in particular helps the brain absorb more information and also helps stimulate one’s thinking!

On the other hand, some people tend to lose all concentration when there’s any music or noise in the background, which leads to procrastination and lower productivity. In short, if you can’t concentrate on the task at hand and get distracted easily, this isn’t the best method for you!

Playlists

I started actively looking for playlists with game music about two years ago and instantly fell in love. There are so many good playlists of various lengths and genres that are accessable on platforms like spotify, 8tracks, youtube, etc. All of the playlists include the tracklist in the description below them!

Note: I won’t be adding any playlists from 8tracks because they only work in the US and Canada.

i. General

Game music for studying: Some of you might have already heard of these videos before. They’re roughly an hour and a half long and include some of the more calming tracks from a lot of different games. All the names of the tracks are listed in the description below, which is super handy if you want to find out which game it’s from! I thought I’d put in the playlist of all of them so you can just press play and enjoy!

Video game music! 2.0: Probably the longest playlist you’ll find anywhere. a n y w h e r e. 223 hours of amazingness that you’ll never regret!

ii. Calming/ relaxing

5 hours of atmospheric game music: This is one of my personal favourites. It’s very long so you don’t have to worry about looking for another playlist when this one finishes.

Relaxing video game music: Another gem! Once again with all the tracks in the description. This one’s great for shorter study sessions since it’s only and hour long.

More relaxing  video game music: If the previous playlist was too short for you, check out this 3 hour one! I used this one a lot last year!

Calming Nintendo music: A super great playlist for all you Nintendo fans! It includes some really nice tracks from the Legend of Zelda series, if you’re into those soundtracks!

Jesper Kyd playlist: Ever since I first played Assassin’s Creed 2, I’ve loved Jesper Kyd’s work. This is quite a long playlist including some of his best tracks from various games. My favourites are towards the end!

Relaxing Legend of Zelda music: You had to see this one coming. The LoZ series has some of the best soundtracks to study to (, in my opinion,) and some of the prettiest and most calming tracks. I highly recommend this 42 minute playlist for those times when you just don’t feel like working.

2 hours of sleepy video game music: This is also a little series of playlists. There are 4 of these videos in total, which adds up to 8 hours of sweet, sweet music.

iii. Epic/ badass

Epic video game music: For all of you who need a little badass music in the background! 2.5 hours of epic and awe inspiring music to really get some work done!

Focus - video game music: Spotify has some really great playlists, so I thought I’d include a few! This playlist is a little more epic and loud, but if that’s the mindset you really need to push through, this would be great for you. It’s an amazing 11 hours long so you’ll never run out.

Orchestral video game music: Another epic playlist, including the occasional lullaby. This is a 7 hour long playlist, so a little shorter than the previous one, but by no means less epic and badass!

Soundtracks

Compared to the playlists, soundtracks tend to be a mix of epic and calming music. Most games have their perilous moments and their I’m-so-relieved-I-managed-to-beat-that-boss-with-only-one-heart-left moments. The world of video games is vast, so I’ve selected a few of my favourite soundtracks to share with you instead of listing all of the ones I can find.

Legend of Zelda - Skyward Sword: One of my favourite all time games! The soundtrack is long too, so you don’t have to worry about looking for a new one afterwards.

Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time: This game is widely believed to have the best soundtrack in video game history. All I can say is so sit down, gather your work and to just enjoy.

Final Fantasy VI: This 1994 gem has an avarage playtime of 65-70 hours. The game has such a good storyline and the soundtrack is a little old school with a lot of non-orchestral tracks. I’d still recommend this to everyone who likes an older style of video game.

Suikoden Tierkreis: I have memories of me just going to the overworld map so I could listen to the music. It’s that good.

Bioshock Infinite: I’ve only ever played the first in the series, but I watched a walkthrough of this particular game and I loved it so much! The music is slightly creepy and loud sometimes but it’s a really great soundtrack overall.

The Last of Us: Another game I’ve never actually played, but the walkthrough was amazing. The soundtrack is very atmospheric and doesn’t have a lot of loud parts, so it’s generally calm.

Assassin’s creed 2: My all-time favourite game ever. As you know from before, I think Jesper Kyd is amazing, so putting these two elements together makes a truly great game. The soundtrack is actually quite well known because a few of it’s most popular tracks are featured a lot in other playlists. E.g. Dreams in Venice and The Madam

The Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim: I’ve listened to this one a few times and I think it’s really good! It starts off quite strong but it has a lot of calmer songs too.

Fable 2: The Fable series is well-known for being short, so the soundtrack is also on the shorter side. I know the dialogue in the game almost by heart and I can guarantee you that there’s a lot of atmospheric music in this soundtrack.

Fragile: This one was recommended to me by a friend on tumblr years ago. It has really sweet songs and has a lot of piano centered tracks.

Now get to work!

I hope I’ve helped you find the perfect game music to accompany you while you study! If you have any recommendations, feel free to send me a message! I’m always up to discovering new playlists/ soundtracks.

Just because someone is generous doesn't mean you can take advantage of them.

Background: both my parents are ophthalmologists (eye surgeon) and they practice at a private clinic together. To comply with rule #6 I won’t mention in which country this takes place but keep in mind this isn’t in the states or Canada.

Five years ago my parents took over a private clinic. The doctor that was practicing there previously had treated his nurses horribly (e.g., yelling and throwing things at the nurses when they make a mistake, calling them all sorts of awful names even in front of patients). However, my parents are not the kind of people who can do that.

So when my parents took over the clinic, they gave the nurses a raise, were flexible with their schedule, and treated them humanely. Not to generalize an entire country but for an employer to treat their employees with kindness is not very common here.

Here’s where the problem started. The nurses, instead of appreciating my parents’ generosity, they thought it would be okay to try and take advantage of this situation. They would show up late, come up with excuses to skip their shift and complain when my parents don’t pay them for their personal days, and they would talk down to my parents.

My parents never tolerated this kind of behaviour in the first place. Whenever the nurses behaved like this, they would sit them down and remind them that they should be treating my parents with respect not only because my parents are their superior but because they’re all adults. They would behave well for a few months and then the same thing would happen again. My parents have already replaced two of them so it’s not like they’re under the illusion that they have job security.

*Soapbox alert*: What bothers me most is that these nurses behaved perfectly well when they were being treated like animals by the previous doctor. And I would be more understanding if they were young but these nurses are in their mid-forties to mid-fifties.

Anyway, August is when most businesses take their summer vacation which basically means employees get a three or four day weekend but very rarely more than four. And surprise surprise, one of the nurses last week were complaining about not receiving a six-day-long paid vacation. She’s claiming that’s how much nurses receive at other clinics (which they don’t) and that it’s illegal for my parents to not allow them to do so (it’s not). And it’s not like we’re prohibiting her from using up her personal days to extend her long weekend.

I think that was the last straw for my mother. She spoke to our lawyer to double check what we’re allowed to do. Here’s a rough translation of what my mom said to that nurse yesterday in front of all the other nurses:

“We pay you above average for a private clinic nurse and we’ve been more than reasonable to your complaints and requests. There’s nothing else I can do to make the work environment here any safer and more peaceful. Despite never having done anything illegal nor violating any part of our contract, you think it’s appropriate to act like we’re taking advantage of you? Fine, let’s play by the ‘law’.”

  • Her contract needs to be renewed at the end of September. Her pay will be decreased to the legally required minimum wage.
  • The premium healthcare we provide for our employees that we’re not legally obligated to pay for? Her’s will be reduced to the basic plan.
  • Nurses are paid by the hour and there’s no minimum number of hours legally required in the contract so we already cut her shifts by half.

The workforce in this country is incredibly competitive so given her age, it is very unlikely she’ll be able to find another job as a nurse. Even if she did, she would have to leave my parents on good terms; as in she can’t badmouth us or cause chaos right before quitting otherwise her license could easily be taken away and all it takes is for my parents to blacklist her in the doctors’ association and no doctor in this country will ever hire her.

Her husband owns a construction firm that does pretty well so it’s not like the contract revisions will put her family out in the streets or anything. Still, I know this kind of makes us look like monsters but my parents rarely take such drastic measures. As their child, it was super satisfying to see them finally defend themselves.

I’m almost 200% sure kuroo became captain for the sole purpose of keeping Kenma on the team like here me out

Its canon that Kenma isn’t as athletically gifted and as a result he was often left out of the game by the previous captains and like no one would set to him or allow him to set and they would talk about him and leave him benched and the only reason he didn’t quit CANONICALLY is because Kuroo talked him out of it and pleaded with him to stay on the team . So I think when kuroo was about to enter his 3rd year he knew that any other captain would cause Kenma to quit because they didn’t and they wouldn’t see his potential like he did. They couldn’t see is value like Kuroo did . And even besides that that’s his best friend you know like he loves him that’s his family. So most likely when the spot opened up he jumped at it and it was a shoe in because not only was he popular but he was already one of the most skilled.

And everybody still thinks he’s captain because of his drive to bring Nekoma out of the gutters and into victory but nope

He just wanted to look out for Kenma ^-^

error-maddie-gem  asked:

Hay cross how do you feel about me and nightmare sans shipped together because he's mine!

Now that we’re talking about ships…

Here comes another little tought.

You’re free to ship any characters you want… I won’t impose you which things I do like and which ones I don’t…
I think the shipping world is wonderful, because you’re creating something after all… (even if it’s nsfw lmao) and you are having fun! You like to do your story and that’s great!

But…

Sometimes there’s something that can ruin a friendship between artists in real life because of this you know?

Like, some people only cares about their fictional characters and fame instead the people who supported them and had a nice time with those creations and ideas…

Always happen something that can hurts an artist just because someone didn’t like what this artist did, that person shows his dissapointment with hate, jealous, with fear of their fanchilds/ fan ships could disappear… in the worst case, they take the artits’s personal mistakes as an excuse in order to get everyone’s approval about their thoughts and “what must be right”.

I said before that I was afraid about some people could misunderstand the canon characters because of the “popular” ships, but this doesn’t mean I don’t hate those ships… actually this make me feel sad…not for the misunderstandings!

It makes me feel so sad when some people wants to hurt others because of a different point of view… and make that person could be hated for a entire fandom…forcing  them to quit all the work this person did, and being judged about their acts for another events… just because one person hated them for a ship they doesn’t like it and helped to increase hatred and revenge.

Is that…fair?

Black and White - Chapter 2

Characters: Baekhyun x Reader

Genre: Bad Boy AU // University AU // Fluff

Word Count: 3227 words

Plot: Baekhyun is the typical heartthrob that always gets what he wants.. until you came along.

Black and White: Mini Masterlist

“Okay, i’ll just say this here. You’re really cute. How about we take this upstairs?” Baekhyun queried.

You felt your heart drop slightly.

This. This was exactly what you wanted to avoid. What you didn’t want to happen.

You were flattered by his words, of course. But you knew they were merely nothing but empty words. Ones that held no meaning whatsoever.

“Trixx N Treats”

‘…Though the Spooktober month may have passed, some of us still got plenty of Halloween candy to finish…’

A belated Halloween squigglustration just in time for Spooktember featuring my favourite fox kwami, Trixx from the Miraculous K-SQUAD. Since I’m Trinidadian and Halloween isn’t really a national holiday or  a big deal in my part of the world, that gives me the golden opportunity to celebrate it whenever I want, right?
So I’m continuing the spooky fun in November.

I am quite pleased with how this turned out. Very pleased. It is one of the rare occasions where you start off with a rough concept and the end product is exactly, or even better than you originally envisioned. Another personal best ♥

Artsy Trivia:

As some of you who follow my ML squiggs might know, I sometimes like to cosplay the kwamis in costumes inspired by characters from other series.
Can you guess who Trixx dressed as for this year’s Halloween?
I’ll give you small hint. It’s not Renard Rouge but it is another fox-themed super hero from a popular magical girl series just like Miraculous.

Think you might have the answer? Take a guess and leave a comment if you think you know.

As always, I hope everyone enjoys this week’s newest squiggle art brought to you by the squiggle meister. Til my next awesometastic piece, staaay tune for more precious star kids!  (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

♥ More Miraculous Art by Squiggles

~LittleMissSquiggles (2017)

By the end of my first full day with Dorothy Evans and her customers, I had come to realize that although the Smithton women are not accustomed to thinking about what it is in the romance that gives them so much pleasure, they know perfectly well why they like to read. I understood this only when their remarkably consistent comments forced me to relinquish my inadvertent but continuing preoccupation with the text. Because the women always responded to my query about their reasons for reading with comments about the pleasures of the act itself rather than about their liking for the particulars of the romantic plot, I soon realized I would have to give up my obsession with textual features and narrative details if I wanted to understand their view of romance reading. Once I recognized this it became clear that romance reading was important to the Smithton women first because the simple event of picking up a book enabled them to deal with the particular pressures and tensions encountered in their daily round of activities.
—

Radway, J. A. (1984). Reading the romance: Women, patriarchy, and popular literature. Univ of North Carolina Press.

Before Joanna Russ or Patricia Frazer Lamb and Diana L. Veith had tentatively started writing about Kirk/Spock slash, and before Henry Jenkins or Camille Bacon-Smith had begun their ethnographies of fandom, before fan studies was even a thing, Janice A. Radway sat down with a group of women who avidly read romance novels, trying to understand why. As the quote above indicates, Radway’s initial interest was in romance novels as a textual form: how do they work, what stories do they tell, what messages do they send, and just why are they so damn popular? What she didn’t expect was how deeply romance novels were intertwined with her research participants’ day-to-day lives. She found she couldn’t just focus on the texts - she had to look at the practices of those who read them too. While Reading the Romance isn’t a fan studies work as such, it marked a key shift in cultural studies, from looking at texts alone to looking at what audiences did with texts, from viewing audiences as entirely passive to recognising their agency. This in turn enabled others to start asking the kinds of questions that eventually established fan studies as a field.

(Oh, and the book helped establish popular romance studies as a field too - talk about overachieving! Over the next few weeks I’ll be posting some more quotes from popular romance studies research, partly because a lot of it is fan-centric, and partly because fanfic and romance have quite a lot in common, so understanding one helps with understanding the other.)

I’ll leave you with a quote from one of Radway’s research participants on what happens when she picks up a romance novel: “Because I think men do feel threatened. They want their wife to be in the room with them. And I think my body is in the room but the rest of me is not.”

A reminder to my fellow RPers

“Your character is so unoriginal” is nothing to feel insulted by. The real world is littered with unoriginal people who make up our friends and family. Our fiction is made of unoriginal characters we adore. Unoriginal is another word for popular, and one shouldn’t feel pressured into not playing what they like simply because other people do too.

“Your character is such a snowflake” is quite the same. Narrative worlds allow for you to have a space to imagine things that other formats won’t let you. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t have a space in which to explore different ideas. If the lore of the medium doesn’t support it, you can still find a nice niche to play it with those that like your character.

“You only RP with your close friends!” happens to be quite a moot point too. We all have a limited time (some more, and some less of it) and nobody owes anyone time if they’d rather have fun with people who they know are like-minded.

“Your writing is awful!” is another rich example, in a hobby in which I’ve seen practically nobody claiming to be good writers themselves. I’ve certainly never seen any roleplayer speaking of their grade A writing ability; only of their love for playing characters. Many of us don’t even live in English-speaking countries. To expect something that was never promised to you is simply delusional.

I’m sure you can think of many more statements blurted out on a daily basis to judge the RP of others, and most can be summed up to people bashing others based on their own, one-sided expectations. Here’s the thing though: RP is a collaborative effort.

We walk a fine line in our hobby, in which sometimes it seems like we have to surrender to the desires of what other expects a character should be like.

Roleplay is an exercise in imagination. You owe nobody originality. You certainly don’t owe anyone having to conform to what the “norm” is, and your time is certainly not public property. Those who want to RP with you will find you, and those who don’t can go elsewhere. Nobody should be shamed for how they spend their time with a hobby that’s basically playing pretend with other people.

There’s only two rules to RP:

  1. Don’t hurt other people OOCly.
  2. Have fun.

anonymous asked:

What kind of designs do you put in lattes? Also do you have any catchphrases?

Allura: Latte designs tend to depend on what butler you have. Coran’s are very standard, hearts and leaves. Shiro tends to make more abstract patterns or very simple but very clean shapes. People enjoy his squares and stars the most. Pidge is rather fond of making little robots. Hunk if he has to make the design, can do little foods. We have yet to train Keith on the latte art, he doesn’t seem to have a knack for it. Lance is our best, very versatile. Really quite the artist and so creative. He can also make versions of the others art, but tends to avoid it.

Lance: As for catchphrases? They were more popular with the girls, who would bless the food with cute magic or whatever. But we did this one theme a while back, from the old show the cafe is named after? We had catchphrases for that, Shiro will still shout his if you ask. It sounds funny out of context.

Keith: Really?

Lance: Yeah.. go up to Shiro and just say “Voltron go”.

Keith:….

Keith: Hey Shiro. Voltron… go?

Shiro: AND I’LL FORM THE HEAD!

Shiro:….

Shiro: Keith stop laughing. It’s a habit.

A.N. I don’t know why this took so long to anwer. Its like I felt the need to reserch latte art. I would die if I had desided to draw all of them.

The relationship between misogyny and romance: a SJM study

Why female desire* isn’t problematic, but A Court of Thorns and Roses is.

In which I wade into an issue in depth, praying that the flame war gods do not strike me down.

**Please note that this essay discusses only the misogynist elements of SJM’s writing in the ACOTAR series. There are obviously other problematic elements that require acknowledgement, but this is the one I feel confident in addressing. I haven’t read any of ACOWAR yet.**

*also, female desire in this instance refers to the desire of the presumed female reader of romance. The reading of romance and YA is obviously not exclusive to women, although a lot of the assumptions of SJM’s work ascribe to the concept of a binary gender.
