Oh my lord, I am on such a pathetic Star Wars kick and Ewan McGregor is my jam. Do you think You're up for some Obi-Wan Kenobi?
I seriously, seriously had no idea what to write for this one for the longest time. I am going, to be honest, I’m not ever sure what I wrote here. Though I am happy that I had them come to Kagome’s world rather than the other way around, since I wanted to try something different, and I can only hope that you enjoy it as well.
He woke to the sound of someone humming, soft chirping whistles in the background and wooden chimes of some sort in a gentle breeze. All thoughts and sense of self were not in the forefront, simply taking everything in as he blinked his eyes open. After observing his surroundings for a few minutes, everything came rushing back. Facing his former student that had become Darth Vader and ultimately dying in doing so.
He pushed himself up into a sitting position, heart pounding and brows furrowed as he tried to comprehend what was going on. Did he, in fact, survive his confrontation with Darth Vader?
The humming stopped and small hands took hold of his arms in an effort to support him. “!” a soft voice called for his immediate attention.
Swinging his head towards the owner of hands and voice, he could only blink at the concerned and scolding tone the woman was using when talking to him. While he didn’t understand the words she was saying, the meaning behind her words and actions were not lost on him.
“I… I, what happened? Where am I?” a hand rose to his throat at hearing his voice, it sounded much younger that it should and had him looking down. His hands were wrinkle free, though they didn’t stay still long as he was soon feeling along his chin and jaw. He was shocked to feel stubble rather than a groomed beard. “What is the meaning of this?”
“English?” the woman pulled back a small amount, allowing him his self-check. “Well, I don’t know what happened before you appeared, but you appeared on my family’s property. Welcome to the Higurashi Shrine.”
Her lips pursed as her eyes scoured his form with furrowed brows, pausing every now and then on a few scars or wrapped bandages. Blue eyes snapped up to meet with his when he indicated to his body with a few waves of his hand. “How am I younger? How am I even alive?!”
“Uh… Like I said, you appeared on my family’s property. Barely alive as it were. This making you younger, though…” she gave a haphazard shrug. “Well, cleaned and patched up with less bruising. Though no older or younger than when you appeared.”
She stood up and moved to a wooden furnishing near the rooms entry way, shuffling through some drawers. While she was doing so, he took his time better observe his surroundings. The room was… nothing like what he was used to or familiar with. The style was completely foreign to him, nothing seemed to really conform to a certain style. Before he could ponder on it any further, the young woman returned, presenting him with a mirror.
He snatched it up, wide eyes staring back at him. It couldn’t be… It was his face, though the age of which he hadn’t seen staring back at him for years. The only thing that remained unchanged were his eyes, they were the same from before he died. After minutes of inspecting himself, he turned to the young woman that had watched him in silence, and it was then that he saw that her own eyes were like his own.
“Now, I don’t where it is you’re from or how you got here, you are, however, more than welcome to stay.” she went about collecting a few things that were resting to the side. “I’ll give you some time to… adjust and get comfortable. In the meantime, I’ll prepare something simple for you to eat.”
He watched as she rose, a tray in hand that held a few simple items meant to help treat fevers. “Wait… why?” a hand was stretched towards her in hopes of stopping her before she left the room.
She shifted her hold on the tray, using her hip to help support the weight. “Why…?” she turned to face him as her hand landed on the door’s handle. “As in… why are you here?”
He nodded his head, hand dropping to land with a soft plop on the coverings. He was unable to form words, though a part of his was grateful that she appeared to be able to understand what he wished to say.
“I… don’t know. Perhaps the powers that are, saw it fit to bring you here. Perhaps you achieved what was necessary in life and your presence was no longer required.” she smiled at him and gave a shrug of her shoulders. “To be honest, I can’t answer that question. Now as to why I’m inviting you to stay here, that I can answer. You looked like you could use the help, and I’m more than happy too. Help that is.”
She pulled the door open and passed through on silent feet, though, before she closed the door behind her, she looked back at him. “Think of it as a second chance at life.”
“Kagome! Kagome! Hey, Kagome, have you seen my-!” a second head appeared around the door frame, a young man. Younger than the young woman that had taken him into her home and helped him, he bore a striking resemblance to her indicating a familiar tie. “Oh, your Houdini woke up. Hey, listen, have you seen my school bag? Kenji lent me his game, only it’s in my bag and I can’t find it.”
A dark brow rose as she looked at the younger man. “First off, he’s not my Houdini. Secondly, do I look like I know what you’re talking about?”
“Kagome-!” the young man whined, acting more childishly than one would expect. “It’s the latest fantasy cross science fiction MMORPG; Vampire Ninjas in Space!”
The silence that followed his words left Obi-Wan more than confused, he was thankful that the young woman was also confused if her wide blinking eyes were anything to go by. “Souta… I did not understand a word you just said.” she shook her head, her free hand waving him off. “Go look in that mess of your room.”
After a moment of silence, the young woman turned back to him. “I’m sorry. As you saw, that was my younger brother Souta, and my name is Kagome.” she gave a bow of her head. “And you are?”
“Ah… Obi-Wan.” he swallowed when her head canted to the side, though she offered no sign of recognition. He stopped her from leaving when he threw out another question that had been burning his tongue. “Where exactly am I?”
“The capital of Japan, Tokyo.” her blue eyes widened when his next question. “What do you mean, on which planet? Earth obviously.” her gaze narrowed. “Wait… don’t tell me… you’re from a part of the universe… You know what, I’m not going to finish asking that question. You’re proof enough.”
“…” he watched as she shook her head and moved about the room, muttering under her breath. She returned with a small box, his belongings folded neatly with his lightsaber placed atop. His heart nearly jumped at realizing that he wasn’t in his own clothing or his possessions weren’t on him.
“Everything you came with is in here, if you find something is not, please let me know.” she sat back and gave him a kind smile. “I know what it’s like to be in your situation. In a place you know nothing about, no idea if there is a way back home. Please know I’m willing to help in any way.”
After a few moments of silence from him, her lips pursed and she gave a bow of her head and stood up in a single graceful move and began to move to the door. “Thank you!” the words were blurted out just as she was stepping through, his conscious reminding him that she and her family indeed were helping him when they didn’t need to.
Blue eyes blinked at him a few times before another warm smile was directed towards him. “You’re more than welcome. I’ll be back with something for you to eat soon.”
The door closed softly and Obi-Wan let himself fall back and let him mind wander through and over the facts of everything he’s just learned. He had died, he was sure of that. Only now he was alive and in a place that was untouched by the Empire or the Jedi Council. It left him wondering if the young woman was correct in that an unknown power really had brought him here, though it left him wondering for what purpose.
For now, he was going to rest and take each moment as they happened. He could only be thankful that it was Kagome and her family that had found him and were helping him.
