Martin J. Walsh, Boston: “To
anyone who feels threatened today, or vulnerable, you are safe in
Boston. We will do everything
lawful in our powerful to protect you. If necessary, we will use City
Hall itself to shelter and protect anyone who’s targeted unjustly. They
can use my office, they can use any office in this building. They’ll be able to use this building as a safe space.”
Bill de Blasio, New York: “We’re going to defend all of our people regardless of where they come from, regardless of their immigration status.”
Rahm Emanuel, Chicago: “I want to be clear: We’re going to stay a sanctuary city. There is no
stranger among us. Whether you’re from Poland or Pakistan, whether
you’re from Ireland or India or Israel and whether you’re from Mexico or
Moldova, where my grandfather came from, you are welcome in Chicago as
you pursue the American dream.”
Ed Lee, San Francisco, with Sam Liccardo (San Jose) and Libby Schaaf (Oakland): “We will not give in to threats, or political grandstanding. Together, the Bay Area will stay true to our values of
inclusiveness, compassion and equality, and united against any and all
efforts to divide our residents, our cities, and our country.”
A man who authorities said shouted “go back to your country” at a Muslim woman wearing a religious head covering may have picked the wrong target: a decorated New York City police officer.
Those people bullying Muslim women just for being Muslim are sick! This woman has done more good than these islamophobes will ever do! This girl does a positive contribution to serve this country while they are getting mad.
just cause, here’s a little sample of all my different washi tapes! my collection is steadily growing…i get all my washi tape from michael’s or paper source – there’s a couple from office depot and target, but i like the quality of the ones from michael’s/paper source best!
(though there are several on mochithings and jetpens that i have my eye on…)
A unique invention by William Elgar, a maker of pepperbox pistols during the early to mid 19th century, and businessman R.M. Smith, the Elgar and Smith revolver was first invented in 1855. The revolver featured three cylinders each with three chambers. Thus the pistol could fire a volley of three .32 caliber bullets simultaneously. After each shot, the next loaded cylinder was hand rotated in place for firing. The pistol used a percussion system with one central nipple. So after each shot a new percussion cap had to be placed on the nipple before firing.
While being able to fire a volley of three shots at a time might seem to increase the lethality of the pistol, in reality the design was a total flop. In 1856 the pistol was test by US Army Ordnance for consideration for military use. During the test, experienced officers missed all their targets. Thus the Elgar and Smith volley revolver was turned down by the Army. Only 10 were ever produced.
Police officers digging at Saddleworth Moor during the investigation into the Moors Murderers Ian Brady and Myra Hindley. Police officers targeted their investigation there due to the discovery of a photograph of Myra Hindley on the moor with her pet dog, hoping to find the body of 11 year old John Kilbride. During this search they discovered a bone from a human arm sticking out of the peat, which turned out to be the body of another victim - Lesley Ann Downey. The bodies of both Downey and Kilbride had to be identified from items of clothing they wore, due to the extent of decomposition.
As a cop, it shouldn’t surprise you that people will curse at you, or be disappointed by your arrival. That’s part of the job. But too many times, officers saw young black and brown men as targets. They would respond with force to even minor offenses. And because cops are rarely held accountable for their actions, they didn’t think too hard about the consequences.
Once, I accompanied an officer on a call. At one home, a teenage boy answered the door. That officer accused him of harboring a robbery suspect, and demanded that he let her inside. When he refused, the officer yanked him onto the porch by his throat and began punching him.
Another officer met us and told the boy to stand. He replied that he couldn’t. So the officer slammed him against the house and cuffed him. When the boy again said he couldn’t walk, the officer grabbed him by his ankles and dragged him to the car. It turned out the boy had been on crutches when he answered the door, and couldn’t walk.
Back at the department, I complained to the sergeant. I wanted to report the misconduct. But my manager squashed the whole thing and told me to get back to work.
I don’t know if a lot of my followers are from the US but a lot of things have been going on in the past week that I’m not ok with. The whole ban on immigration from 7 Muslim-majority countries IS WRONG. My blog is about fitness yes, but it’s for everyone to feel motivated and know they have a support system. MY BLOG IS FOR EVERYONE. Sad to see that Trumps logo “make America great again” is already a fail in his first week of office. I will never support actions targeting or neglecting a select group that isn’t a threat (or doing crimes). EVERYONE should be welcomed. PERIOD. This blog is a judgement free zone, and I wanted to let you guys know that. Anyone is welcomed and I will support anyone.
