the office 500

The purpose of police officers is to protect and to serve. One such police officer that did the absolute opposite was Russian serial killer, Mikhail Popkov. Over the course of eight years, Popkov slaughtered as many as 29 women. The manner in which he killed women varied. He axed, stabbed, slashed, and strangled women to death. The women he killed were all full-figured, and were said to resemble his mother who had abused him throughout his childhood. When Popkov targeted a victim, most frequently at local bars, he would bring them home and force them to strip naked before brutally murdering them and having sex with their blood-soaked bodies. At least one victim was beheaded while another was found with their heart gouged out.

After his arrest in 2012, he confessed that he stopped killing women in 2002 after becoming impotent due to a sexually transmitted disease he contracted through one of his victims. He was tracked down after analysis of the DNA of 3,500 police officers and former police officers was made available. Other officers were criticized for providing Popkov with alibis for several of the murders. He was charged with 24 murders but police suspect him in several others.
