All right, you are not your appearance. If you dress this way, men will say this; if you dress that way, women will think that. You can't rely on physical things to tell the world who you are or what you believe in.
...Are you serious?

Comments from Skam’s official website under some of the clips in season 3.
i found this kinda funny. since we’re in the beginning of a new season
and we speculate on what’s gonna happen next, i went back to read the
comments on some of the early clips on season 3 and thought i’d translate
some. (if you don’t bother to read the long comments i’ve bolded the
best part.) btw my absolute fav is X’s comment on the Ikke vær frekk clip

insane. Anyone else got the impression that Eskild was keen on Isak, but Isak wasn’t on Eskild?

hurt and it’ll be stress and drama, cause Even isn’t gay. The moral to
Andem must be to show that no hints can show who a person truly are, and
through Isak we’ll learn this. I think Even and Emma are gonna fall for each other, and Isak will get a real downfall before he falls for another boy.

Clever things in Be More Chill that make that me smile
Jeremy’s theme and the Squip’s theme are very similar to one
another, following deep tech-y undertones with high pitched slow almost 8-bit
Jeremy’s theme has the melody of “It helps you to beee
cooooooool” that’s sung in The Squip Song, immediately providing foreshadowing
without question that Jeremy will take the squip because the melody for its
function is literally inside of
All songs focused on Jeremy or Michael (Michael in the
Bathroom, More Than Survive, Two Player Game, etc) begin with 8bit/piano single
“Come on” is always used in the context of the erotic,
including sex, overt happiness, and romance
“If this were an apocalypse, I would not need any tips, in
how to stay alive…But since the zombie army has yet to descend…” directly
correlates when the students become ‘zombies’ in The Play (“you have to really
sell that you’re turning into a zombie!”) because of the squip and Jeremy does
know what to do, because of his video game
Speaking of the video game, it’s called Apocalypse of the
Damned, the apocalypse referring both to the first quote above and to the
students becoming zombies in The Play. The Damned part refers to those turned
over by the squip, as the Squip calls them the “pitiful”, or damned children
When characters are directly controlled by the Squip, their
voice has a mechanical overtone, like when Rich is explaining about the pill the
second time in The Squip Song, when the Squip talks about what Jeremy has to do
for him in Be More Chill (part 1)
Whenever the Squip is convincing Jeremy of something, like
how everything about him is terrible or that the Squip will save the “pitiful
children” and so on, he uses the voices of the other students in the school,
which I always think is a nice parallel by the end during Voices in My Head
When Jeremy has to repeat after the Squip in Be More Chill
(part 1) the music in the background resembles waltz music, a dance often used
in media to portray tension between characters (you know, those classic scenes
of the couple with sexual tensions, or when a detective and partner must dance
to get close to the bad guy, or when a hero and supervillain dance together
because they’re both in disguise at a party, etc etc) but in this case it shows
how in tune with one another the Squip and Jeremy are
The Squip refers to Jeremy as Hamlet when he’s being
overdramatic which is a reference to how Hamlet pretended to ‘be crazy’ to get
what he wanted, but now Jeremy is pretending to ‘be more chill’ to get what he
“Do you wanna ride” and “do you wanna hang” both refer to
sex (obviously) and they are paralleled with the girls referring to it
happening somewhere with parents (ie, “my mother’s car” or “Jake’s parents’
room”). The Squip also interferes both times to push Jeremy to participate, by
manipulating him into saying yes to the ride or disabling his legs at the party
Brooke/Chloe refer to Jeremy as “Jerry” a few more times
even after he corrects them
Even though the Squip says for Jeremy to repeat him and he
says “Everything about YOU is so terrible” Jeremy repeats it as “Everything
about ME is so terrible” because the Squip is an abusive computer
I’ve always maintained that Zeppelin was the spaces between us. Bonzo was into soul music and Motown ballads; I was into jazz and classical music; Jimmy was into rockabilly, blues, and folk; and Robert was into blues and Elvis Presley. It’s been a while since Y/n had seen him. Never had she thought the time would come that he’d be finally calling her phone, in such a long period of time. Six an a half years is a long time to wait. Especially for an ex.
“I’m glad you had time to see me, Y/n. It’s been so long.”
Y/n smiles politely, looking down at the cup of tea her company had ordered for her.
“Well, I gotta admit, it was quite the surprise when you called, Newton.”
“Newt. Please, call me Newt. You’re one of the very few that I allow to, and…I miss how it sounds coming from your mouth.” He chuckles, rubbing the back of his neck in nervousness. “S-Sorry, that um..sounded bloody creepy, but you get my point.”
Sighing heavily, her politeness was slowly starting to fade away. She knew what this was, she wasn’t stupid. In the past six years Y/n has gotten not one phone call or text message from this guy, and then all of sudden here he is acting all awkward and charming at the same time. Setting her cup down after taking a short gulp of it, she finally makes eye contact with the man before her.
“Look, Newton. Things didn’t work out between us because you loved your music more than I.”
“That’s not true-”
“Let me finish,” She holds her hand up, silencing him. “I was understanding, I was fair and actually wanted you to be happy and let you go. I moved on. Which was a mistake, I’ll admit, but it helped my unhappiness turn into something else. I fell in love again. And now that I am once again heartbroken, you decide to turn up, saying sweet nothings to me as if all of what you put me through never happened. Now how is that fair to me? ”
“Love, I came back for you because I realized my only dream was with you. You were my dream.”
“Oh, cut the bullshit.”
Newt’s eyes widen at her venomous tone. Last time he had spoken to Y/n, she had such a sweet demeanor about herself, everything about her was kind and gentle. Earlier on this little gathering she was calm and collected, but now she is speaking to him in such a way he had never heard her speak before.
“What’s happened to you?”
“Life, Newton. Life fucking happened to me. You wanna know what I’ve been through? You leave me for your stupid music career, not even returning my calls or emails or letters. Then, when I finally move on to another guy, I find out he’s cheating on me with some bitch for nearly half of the time we’ve been together, then trying to make me seem like the bad guy! And now that I’m somewhat over him, you show the fuck up! Out of nowhere!”
“Love, calm down-”
“Don’t you tell me to calm down! I deserve to be fucking mad! I put up with so much, sticking up for guys that don’t deserve it, and I wonder why I end up the same way! Heartbroken!” By now, she was starting to draw attention to their table, alarming a certain few while the others watched with anticipation. Newt stands up slowly with his hands up, trying not to provoke her any further.
“Y/n, please, I didn’t mean to struck a nerve-”
“Can you please talk to me without cursing at me, for bloody sake?”
“I just think it’s a coincidence how you show up, right when I start to get out of my funk and feel better about finally leaving that dickhead. Were you just waiting for the perfect opportunity to make your way back into my life? When I was at my most vulnerable? Well, news flash for you, buddy! The only thing you’re getting from me, are these hands!”
Y/n was about to jump right over the table and tackle the poor, confused, Brit. Luckily, someone was able to grab her by the waist at the right time before she could even cross the table. Holding her close to their chest, Newt was able to take a few steps back, while making eye contact with the person behind her. Y/n squirmed against their hold, until the familiar scent of pine clogged her nostrils. Her squirming ceased. For now.
“Who the bloody hell are you?”
“Oh, you don’t remember me, Newtie? I’m hurt, I thought we had something special.”
Once Newt’s eyes actually scanned his face, he glared. Lowering his hands from his self-defense stance, he crossed them over his chest. “Very funny, Pan. I see that you didn’t change at all. Except for getting uglier, of course.”
“And you’re still the same after all these years, as well. Except you’re still single.”
Y/n pushes away from Peter with great force, nearly knocking him backwards. Straightening out her shirt, she huffs in anger. “What the hell are you doing here? Where’s your little sex toy?”
Peter drew his attention to Y/n, the playful glint in his eyes turning melancholy.
“Y/n, I know I am the last person you want to see right now, and I understand that. I was a completely asshole, and deserve to burn in hell for what I did behind your back. But, if you give me a moment to explain-”
“So it’s you.” Newt connects, as a grin started to form on his face. “You’re the one who cheated, while you were still in the relationship with Y/n. Did you honestly think you would get away with that?”
“Can we talk somewhere a little more private, love?”
“No. And don’t call me that. We can settle this right here, right now. I’ve been waiting to actually kick your ass, now that the tears finally stopped. Do you realize how humiliated you made me feel after that night? How absolutely filthy you left me? And you had some nerve to try and blame me! The only person that saw good in you, cared for you, loved you!” Each word spoken was a shove to his chest, which he happily took. He was just glad that she was actually talking to him.
“I understand that you are in pain-”
“Oh, you can’t even begin to understand! Giving your love to someone who you thought was the one, only to have it blow up in your face, you have no idea what that feels like!”
“I could’ve warned you in the first place, Y/n. It’s your own fault for thinking a bloke like Pan would ever-” Before he could finish his unneeded input, Y/n picked up his cup of tea and threw what was left of it into his face. It was just hot enough to prove a point: for him to shut the fuck up. “Ahh! Mother of fu-Jesus Christ! Shit, shit, shit, shit! Bloody, burning hell!”
Newt rushes to find the nearest bathroom, a few workers following behind him, as others just stare in shock or gaze in amusement. Placing the cup back on the table, Y/n turns back to Peter, with rage darkening her eyes.
“I thought I told you to stay the hell away from me. How did you even know I was here?”
“That’s not important, what’s important is us fixing this problem that we have-”
“We don’t have a problem! You do, and only you! I was perfectly happy being with you, I didn’t care what people said about your past relationships because none of that mattered, it’s in the past for a reason! I didn’t care when they called you bad news, I didn’t care that my parents didn’t approve of you, and I didn’t care how much we argued over stupid shit! What I cared about was you, and how much I loved you. You were there when Newt left, you were my friend, someone I could talk to when I needed it. You listened, you cared…And when you asked me out, I thought moving on was too good to be true, but you changed that. And look where it got us! Five fucking years I gave to you, and this whole time that was just a game to you.”
“It wasn’t a game-”
“Hearing a lot of bullshit today, you know. You knew exactly what you were doing, Peter. And you knew the person you did it with I despised, yet you still did it anyway.” Tears were starting to form in her eyes, as the heat of the moment was dying down and reality was coming back to her. The man that broke her already bruised heart was standing right there, with the guts to say that he didn’t mean what he did. What does he take her for, a fool?
“Y/n, what I did was unforgivable, we both know that. But, love, I regret it.”
“Is that supposed to make me feel better? Three words that don’t matter at all to me? I regret giving you my time, mind, body and soul. I regret thinking that scum like you could ever change. I regret loving you, Peter Pan. So I’ll say it again, since you obviously didn’t listen the first time. Stay. The hell. Away. From me.”
With that said, Y/n left money on the table and took her leave. Storming outside the door, she roughly wiped the single tear that escaped her eye before anyone could see.
She was so over crying.
But, the sound of the door chimes made her stop only for a second. He seriously could not be trying to chase after her, could he? The rapid footsteps confirmed that prediction, making her bite the inside of her cheek, to stop herself from doing anything she’ll regret. Again.
“Y/n, please! You gotta listen to me, love-”
“I don’t want anything to do with you, Peter. Just crawl back to wherever you came from, and forget we ever existed. Let me move on! Live your own life, so I can get on with mine!”
“Y/n, baby, I’m begging you!”
“Nothing you can say or do will change my mind, Peter-!”
“ M A R R Y M E ! ”
In that moment…everything just stops.
From the noisy traffic, to the beating of her own heart.
It was silent.
With her covered mouth agape, Y/n stands there in complete and utter disbelief. Seeing that he now had her attention, Peter slowly descended to one knee, staring up at her with eyes that were filling with tears.
So what if there was a machine. Or a magic device and when a character put their hand (or for more people their hands) on it it selects a song that best embodies the person or the relationship. I just really like the idea of a character who everyone knows is ‘nice’ and then their song is freaking scary. Or a couple of people and everyone’s like oh gods their song is gonna be based on sex and shit 'cause their relationship has no depth and then it’s a really deep love song? Like the sheer amount of characters I would love to see explored more and the relationships between them but using music as a medium…
I love that the umbrella scene feels so different but at the same time the same as the rest of the series. The music in the series is most of the time flashy and peppy and feels really cartoony. but this scene was so perfectly slow and god the music is so 'this is between us' but also had that romantically magically feeling. Thomas could've make it very typical with quirky music and heart sparkle effects, but he didn't. The whole scene was just perfect. I hope you understand what I mean haha
MAN I totally feel you anon!! The scene has a sort of weight, presence, and pacing to it that’s different than the rest of the series.
I was just talking about colour keys with @gabzilla-z and how this episode in particular seems to use colours very deliberately. Like!!! You’re right, the show itself is bright and colourful and playful. And if you were to think about the general mood of the show in terms of colour, you’d probably come up with warm tones: reds and oranges and yellows. Ladybug colours, washing through the screen and bringing a sense of action and security. A beacon of hope, like the hero she is.
And in the moment with the rain, it’s /so/ different from what we’re used to (I don’t think we’ve gotten a rain scene before now? Rain is really expensive to animate). It’s shades of blue: more Adrien’s colours, reflecting back to his favourite colour and also his mood. And it makes sense because he’s the one who opens up in this moment and tells Marinette, rather honestly and with a kind of vulnerability, what his intentions were and how this is all quite new to him.
In a way, that moment kind of echoes their ladynoir interaction: there’s a kind of understanding and charge of emotions that’s implicitly understood but not necessarily articulated.
The piano music (also!! a great tie to Adrien’s character), the slower pacing of the scene (because half of that moment is told through the character animation, with the wide eyed states and the laughter and the /passing of the umbrella/ good grief I’m not over this at all), the rain, the darker and cooler palette of colours- it is very different from everything else we’ve seen. And it fits magically within the narrative because that choice is so deliberately and purposefully done. The contrast sets the emotional beat apart and is what consequently wrecks us all.
This show really blows a lot of typical character and story tropes right out of the water and I’m SO glad and astonished that it translates into the animation. That they worked with subtlety and used the gravity of maturity to drive this moment home.
“Can you write one with Nate where y/n and him meet at a party and she ignores his advances on her bc Derek is her best friend and since Nate and Derek had a fall out she doesn’t want to give him a chance. Then Nate realizes why she won’t give him any attention?”
“Y/n you ready to go?!” a deep voice boomed from downstairs.
“Yes I just have to put on shoes!” I shout back.
The impatient voice summoning me was my best friend Derek. We were heading out to one of his friend’s house parties, and was always impatient when it came to me getting ready. A girl has to look good, he’ll understand.
I make my way downstairs making sure I didn’t forget anything. Derek was leaning against the wall, messing on his phone to kill the time.
“Finally,” he says annoyed, but not turning to look at me. He finally puts his phone away and acknowledges my presence.
“Damn” he said, eyes wide.
“Too much?” I ask concerned, pulling at my tight black dress.
“Never,” he grins, shooting me a wink.
I have been best friends with Derek for as long as I can remember. We met in school, and something between us just clicked. As his music career started taking off, he never forgot me and included me in pretty much every aspect of his life. Thanks to him I feel like I have a life.
We made our way into the prearranged Uber, because certainly no one was driving tonight.
“Who’s party is this again?” I ask in the car, looking out the window at the flickering street lamps.
“My new collaborator, I kind of have to do this to help the image” he replies.
“Oh okay,” I answer, finding it strange.
Before I could ask any further questions, we found ourselves being pushed into a swarm of people at a very packed house party.
“I’m gonna grab us some drinks” Derek shouted, making his way to what I assumed was the kitchen.
I leaned against the wall near to where the DJ was set up. I always liked to be by the music, it was the center of the party.
“Hey lil mama, you are gorgeous you know that?” a smooth voice sounded above the music.
I turn to see one of the hottest guys I’ve ever seen. Dark hair, dimples, tattoos. I was instantly flustered.
“H-hi” I stammer, his smile showing that he found my shyness cute.
“What’s your name gorgeous?” he questioned.
“Y/n” I reply, twirling my hair out of nerves.
“Beautiful name for a beautiful girl” he charms. I swear if he calls me beautiful one more time I’m going to combust.
“Don’t I get to know your name?” I quip, finding my voice in this conversation.
“Oh!” he laughs, realizing he forgot that part.
“Nate. Nate Maloley” he smiles, standing a little closer.
You have got to be kidding me.
Nate Maloley? The one name that I was hoping wouldn’t come out of his mouth.
I had nothing against this guy, but Derek sure did. I used to have to hear Derek complain and rant about him constantly. They used to work in the studio together but had a major falling out, and I was there to mop up the blood.
If there was one name forbidden around Derek, it was Nate. And of course, Nate has to be the one to chat me up.
“I have to go,” I say more curtly than I intended.
“What? Why?” Nate looks puzzled, grabbing my arm to get a response.
“I just have to use the restroom” I lie, feeling myself able to leave.
He looked confused, but obliged.
The rest of the night was spent dodging Nate, but it seemed like everywhere I was, he was. He was looking for me, I must have definitely caught his fancy. I was flattered. Why did he have to be Derek’s ex best friend?
I was in the kitchen getting a drink when I felt a strong arm slide around my waist.
“Hey wanna go for a walk?“ He asked.
"I can’t my friend will be looking for me,” I lied. Another lie, when would it stop.
“Hey, you’ve been blowing me off all night. Was it something I said?” He asked annoyed but also concerned.
“No, it’s not you, it’s…..complicated” I sigh.
“Y/n, there you are!” A voice boomed entering the kitchen. It was Derek.
His eyes fell on Nate and instantly I saw a flash of red before him. He immediately grabbed my hand to lead me away.
“The friend.” Nate said curtly, piecing together why I was avoiding him.
“Derek you’re being ridiculous” I say, angrily.
“No I’m not, I told you I hate him why would you do this?” He asked frustrated.
“He seems nice and he’s never done anything to me, I want to give him a chance. If you’re really my best friend you’d want me to be happy and support me” I caution.
He looked conflicted but finally agreed.
“I’m not happy about this, but I love you so I’ll let you go. But if he hurts you,” he began to say before I cut him off.
“Don’t worry I can take care of myself” I say giving him a peck on the cheek.
I walked back through the party towards the music when I recognized the tattoos.
“Nate!” I shout.
He spun around and dimples began to form with his smile.
“Hey! I didn’t think I’d see you again” he smirked.
“Shut up. How about that walk?” I retort.
do you have any good herb replacements for alder? (it's being used because of the properties that make it commonly used in both music and wind-whistling magic, and i have no way to get alder.)
This is a bit of a tough one to answer since I don’t know how you might be applying the herbs when you sub them for alder in your practice–are they being burned? Ingested? Applied topically? Used as a wand? I’ll do my best to give you some general options, but feel free to make a more specific inquiry. Musically inclined uses for herbs are few and far between, so this is mostly regarding the wind-whistling.
Other woods may be more accessible than alder(Alnus spp.). Elder (Sambucus spp.) is a similarly-named wood that shouldn’t be confused with alder, but it shares many of the same properties. The name latin name sambucus comes from a wind instrument traditionally made with elder wood, and it is associated with both music and wind. Elder can be very toxic if handled incorrectly, so you should take care if you use it. Poplar(Populus spp.) has properties regarding speech, language, and wind that you may also find useful.
Popular/generally agreed on herbs for air and wind-calling are anise seed, pansy, saffron, lavender, lemon verbena, heather, mint, and lungwort. Lungwort may be swung around the head or tossed to encourage winds. Not all of these are edible, so please research before you use them internally or externally!
And now, a recipe! This is a modification of a storm-calling/storm-singing brew I have used on occasion. The major changes are some swapped herbs and different intent/natural energy in the water, so it may take a little preparation and waiting for the right weather if you don’t have everything on hand. It is quite flexible with herb proportions, so don’t worry if you only have a little bit of mint or something, just sub in some more of another ingredient.
A brew for wind and storm and voice
Lavender, a few ounces of culinary grade.
Mint (or, if you’re a little strapped for fresh herbs, a mint flavoring)
Elderberries. A spoonful for a more tea-like broth, or 1 cup per 3 cups liquid for a rich syrup. This is used symbolically as a connection to the elder tree and its properties, as described above. Do NOT eat the berries raw, as they are only safe once cooked.
One to three cups intent-specific water (more below on this)
Sugar or honey to taste; 1:1 ration to the water for a thick, sweet syrup to add to other beverages, and less for a standalone tea.
OPTIONAL, depending on intent: Bee pollen, ice cubes
The first step will likely be to fetch or prepare your water. In my original recipe, I use storm water; for a wind-specific brew, wait for an especially blustery storm or drizzle before collecting it. Alternately (especially if you want warm, summer winds), collect wind in a bottle and submerge it into a bowl of your water, allowing it to bubble up and aerate the liquid. The slower the better with the latter method (and it can be used for things other than water!); experiment with bottle angles and partial capping to see if you can get it to infuse gradually over a night or two.
Next, combine your herbs and berries with your water and sugar.
FOR COLD WINDS: Add more mint, use white sugar, and place ingredients in fridge or cool place with ice cubes instead of water. Allow the ice to infuse cold into the other components and allow the mix to cold-brew overnight. You will still need to heat this if you use elderberries; if desired, create and freeze an elderberry tea in place of ice cubes, so you will not need to reintroduce heat after the cold-brewing process. Otherwise, heat the mixture thoroughly, and reduce on a simmer. This is perfect for a brisk, refreshing wind in the summer, or powerful winds in the winter. Best drunk or applied cold!
FOR WARM WINDS: Add more lavender, and use honey instead of sugar. If you have time, I recommend steeping the lavender and honey together in a cozy place for a few weeks beforehand. Combine your base ingredients and get it to a brisk simmer to extract all the herbal essence. Reduce. After cooling, add bee pollen and allow to rest in the sun before using. This is best for strong summer winds, and a warm breeze on too-chilly spring and fall days.
FOR POWER: Add more elderberry. Make a syrup instead of a tea, using lots of the berry for a dark, rich brew. I would personally recommend using storm water AND aerating the water for some extra kaboom; if possible, create the potion on a day that’s already windy/stormy, and cool the syrup outside as the wind howls. Sing to it or play music if you’re comfortable–stuff with heavy drums and monotone vocals is my fave for big moody weather feelings.
if a tea, drink shortly before attempting vocal, whistling, or wind magic. Drink hot if working vocally to loosen your voice. If a syrup, add to water or another beverage, or apply to your lips. You can also take it as a thick tonic. I would recommend clearing your mind and meditating on the potion’s purpose before consuming.
I hope this is useful! Followers, feel free to chip in; wind and music magic are not generally my arena, so if anyone can help this anon, I’m sure they would appreciate it!
