the mun had no idea how else to answer this but

The Secret To Shinhwa’s Longevity? The Answer is Their Leader, Eric Mun.

Eric Mun, one of the best leaders, if not the best, sets an example of what true leadership is. What has he done for Shinhwa that the group stayed intact, becoming the longest-running idol group in Kpop, with no disbandment & no member change?

Let’s start from the very beginning. After winning a street dance championship in the US, Eric was selected by Lee Soo Man in March 1997 & he debuted as the leader of the 6-member-group Shinhwa on 24 March 1998

In 2003, Shinhwa’s 5-year-contract with SM came to an end. At that time, many 1st generation groups faced disbandment, like H.O.T, Secks Skies, S.E.S. So it was expected that Shinhwa would disband too. Following the group’s contract expiration, SM wanted to disband the group & offered solo contracts to only some members. But Shinhwa’s aim was that the 6 of them would stay together as a group and could not be separated. So, Shinhwa refused the solo contract offers with SM, which was undoubtedly a shock in the industry. So far no artist had ever dared to offend the big boss of the Korean entertainment industry, and they were the first.

So, what did Eric do to avoid disbandment and keep the members together after the contract expired?

Eric, the leader who chose to keep his group together over money. His first priority was his group.

He was offered solo contracts that were FOUR times more than the other members. “Honestly, others would think about those offers for a month, but Eric rejected them immediately, just to let the members be together.”

Truthfully, how many people do you know that can make such sacrifice, whether in real life or in idol world?!!!! .. Eric could’ve said, ‘screw Shinhwa’ and then accept SM’s offer to double his contract 4 times on the condition that they disband Shinhwa and he go solo.. But Eric’s genuine love & loyalty for his group couldn’t be replaced by money or securing a place in SM. He turned down the offers IMMEDIATELY & & took Shinhwa to another company, which was even a great risk as they were leaving the big boss of kpop entertainment to start again in another much smaller company. The result didn’t matter to him as long as remained with the members.
imagine that Eric accepted those tempting solo offers, then we wouldn’t have Shinhwa anymore. The fact that the six of them are able to stay together now, Eric contributed A LOT to it.

and to Eric, his choice wasn’t a sacrifice .. it was the best decision he has made in his life.

After Eric chose Shinhwa over money & suggested moving to another agency, then came the next problem. Leader Eric had to fight for the rights to “Shinhwa’s” name.

After Shinhwa left SM among much controversy & refused to extend their solo contracts, then came a huge problem. The members needed to continue using the same name “Shinhwa”. But since SM still owned the rights to Shinhwa’s name, so Eric had to put himself through a crash course in legalities to resolve Shinhwa’s contract issues. Eric was the one who negotiated with the management and no one will ever know how much hardship he had to endure during the negotiations. Eric went to court against SM to retain the rights for Shinhwa’s name. He even studied law to find a way for Shinhwa to continue being active under the same name. (Bear in mind that he was only 24 years old back then!!) .. He paid a HUGE sum of his OWN money to buy the name’s rights.. Eric really went through hell during that period until in the end, Shinhwa won & left SM with the rights to their name.

Can you imagine that a young man in his early 20s, gave up on massively tempting solo offers and chose to go through hell & fight for his team just to remain with his band mates & keep the group intact?!!! .. who else can do such thing?!! .. what a true leadership & loyalty!

It’s also Eric who negotiated -alone- with other companies till he chose the best offer for his group. Then Shinhwa moved to Good Entertainment. But unfortunately, not so many people were pleased with that decision & so they tried their best to bring Shinhwa down, asking them to disband like what other groups did back then.

In 2004, a journalist once wrote an article heavily criticizing Shinhwa & blatantly used personal attacks on the Shinhwa members implying that they are failed musicians who try too hard with solo activities. He proceeded to slam Shinhwa with ruthless criticism, leading to a big media frenzy. It was then that Eric stepped up once again as the leader to speak out. He made a powerful reply to the reporter & published it on the Internet, asking for a more meaningful review. That reply of Eric went viral & found its way to the official school books in Korea, marking him as the 1st & only artist to have such feat. He ended the letter with: “It’s not so easy to see Shinhwa. If there’s anything, you can look for me.” & this line became very famous.

Here’s an excerpt of his lengthy letter..

WOW! such powerful reply! Eric might be 4D & act like a cute kid, but when someone or something threatens Shinhwa, he turns into a totally different person. totally dependable & trustworthy leader.

When Eric was at the peak of his success, being the nation’s flower boy after starring in the very popular drama “Firebird” in 2004, & dominating almost all CFs and he was dubbed the “CF King” .. Many thought that he would leave Shinhwa & there were many articles released that urged him to go solo & pursue his successful career as an actor & rapper away from Shinhwa.

“I remember a conversation I had with Eric over drinks back when we were filming Firebird (Phoenix). I said ’“It’s a good idea to go into acting. Anyway, you can only be an idol for a few years, just make acting your lifelong career”. Eric turned serious and replied “NO! I’ll be with Shinhwa for more than 10 years, for a lifetime. Please wait and see!”
- Firebird Director San Ray’s twitter (2012.03)

Eric strictly clarified to everyone what his top priority is, which is the group Shinhwa. Eric: “Shinhwa is everything. Without Shinhwa there won’t be the present me, and I would not meet precious friends and members who love me.”
Eric: “Shinhwa is our root and it has to be our core.”

This man’s loyalty & devotion to his group is simply unbelievable!

2008 - The group hiatus due to military service. Eric is always the leader who knew how to keep his word.

In 2008, Shinhwa held their last concert before the 4-year hiatus due to the army enlistment. In that concert, they promised the fans that Shinhwa will come back after all members finish their military service. “Shinhwa will come back, please wait for us”

But .. during those 4 years of military service hiatus, Shinhwa was on the verge of disbandment. So the dependable leader Eric stepped up again to keep their promise to the fans & keep the group together.

and that’s how Shinhwa came back to us again, thanks to Leader Eric who lived up to his position as the best leader & the big brother to his group members and brought them together again. Couldn’t be more grateful to this AWESOME man! he’s truly a man of his words! .. Thanks to him, we have Shinhwa today!

Eric: “Shinhwa must go on forever. Even if there is no company that wants us, we might just form our own company and carry on.”

In 2007, some members left Good Ent. (the company Shinhwa moved into after SM) & many people thought Shinhwa were going to disband. But the loyal leader Eric stepped up again and assured that Shinhwa will go on forever even if there’s no company that wants them, Leader Eric came up with the idea of forming their own company! He’s truly the leader that thinks ahead & seeks for what’s best for his group! to this extend he’s so loyal & dedicated to Shinhwa!

Eric’s efforts to gain the full rights to Shinhwa’s name.

But .. to establish Shinhwa’s company, there was a serious issue needed to be resolved. Shinhwa didn’t have the full rights to their name yet, since SM handed over the full rights of “Shinhwa’s” name to Jun Media Ent. in 2005.
So before establishing “Shinhwa Company”, leader Eric went through a very tough time & had loooong negotiations with Jun Media to use Shinhwa’s trademark. And finally, after reaching an agreement, Eric’s dream came true & Shinhwa Company was established in 2011, marking Shinhwa as the first & only idol group to establish their own agency with their own name & personally run it.

But due to many legal issues concerning Jun Media, Shinhwa filed a lawsuit and leader Eric went to court against Jun Media in 2012. He went through hell again with many trials & appeals & temporarily changing the company name to “ShinCom Ent.”. Until finally In 2015, Shinhwa won and gained the full rights to their name after 12 years.
This man, Eric, used to show up in varieties, all smiling & laughing, acting 4D & as 3 yrs old kid, while he had such huge burden over his shoulders, fighting for years for Shinhwa to continue with their name. He makes me speechless!

The members expressed their gratitude & thanks to Eric as he was the one who struggled the most during the the whole process.
Such a dependable Leader!

The leader that always thinks of Shinhwa as family.

Eric has always been the dependable big brother to all the members. “I always think of the members as my real brothers”. And as a real brother, Eric is always there for the members when anyone of them faces troubles & does his best to help the members out.

Eric, to help Minwoo out, gathered the members & suggested that everyone of them contributes a sum of money so that they help Minwoo overcome his financial trouble as loyal brothers.
This man continuously sets examples of how true friendship should be.

When Eric earned a large sum of money in CFs, he split up his pay and supported other members who had financial difficulties. When he was dominating CFs, he called the members to his house and gave them bonus money. He’s also filmed CFs originally meant for himself but he got the company to include the rest of the Shinhwa members.

Shinhwa’s appearance for China gag concert in 2015 was originally meant to have Eric as the only guest, but he refused & told the production team that if it wasn’t a SHINHWA segment, he wouldn’t attend. So, Shinhwa as OT6 was casted instead.

One of the things that make other groups disband is when the members care more about their solo work than the group itself.
Then comes leader Eric, who leads by example. For his solo activities, he always thinks of “us” before “me”! his group always comes first.

To Eric, Shinhwa always comes as a top priority even before his solo work. When he does a solo activity, he does it because he knows it will benefit the group itself, not doing solo to shine away from the group. He does his solo work to promote Shinhwa.

Even when he gets a solo activity, he never decides on it by himself… Eric will first get the agreement of the members if there is something he wants to do for himself. If there is a solo activity that he wishes to do, he would first gather the opinions of the members & seek the agreements of all the members first!!.
Seriously who ever does something like this?!!!! .. such an attitude of his sets an example of what made it possible for Shinhwa to promote separately and together.
Eric: “Rather than my solo activities, Shinhwa’s activities are more important.”

another secret to longevity? it’s the leader’s genuine care and support to the other members’ solo activities. Eric always sets an example for others to follow.

Dongwan: “Eric always thinks about every member, and seeing how he helps make us take care of each other.“

Eric has always been a truly supportive & selfless Leader. Not being selfish & focusing only on his solo activities, but he always helps his members in their solo careers, showing ultimate support & encouragement to them & happily agrees to feature in their albums, and always expresses how proud he is as his members are doing great in their solos. While staying at home, he keeps on monitoring their performances & giving them very useful feedback & advises.

Eric: “Aside from our group activities, I’m really happy to see the members do well in their solo careers. If I can offer my help in any way, I’d like to help them continuously.”

& what does he gain in return for his massive help & as feat. fees in his members’ albums?! .. Pizza or sunglasses :D

Eric, the leader who leads from behind & puts the members in front. He doesn’t like to stand out and always stays away from the limelight, happily giving it to the members.

and there is always that noticeable thing about Leader Eric. He has always been supporting Shinhwa from the back since debut. Never been bossy. He always stays away from the limelight, happily giving it to the members. You’ll find him standing quietly in the interviews. So humble & quiet to the extend that many people are still not aware that Eric is the leader of Shinhwa. This is because he is a man with few words and doesn’t stand on the front of the group. His true features of taking care of his people shone brightly as him working behind the scenes. But when Shinhwa encounter a problem, he takes the front line, protecting the group & the members.

and after all of this, it’s expected that Eric will be thinking highly of himself as one of best leaders, if not the best ..
but ..this man is so humble to an extend you can’t believe!

Another thing about Eric is that he never thinks highly of himself!! he’s one of the most humble people you can ever meet!!. Like he’s one of the best leaders, if not the best, the loyal, selfless & dependable leader that has been keeping Shinhwa for such a long time in the industry & still, he doesn’t think that he does something extraordinary!!

Seriously, how can he even be this humble?!!.. Eric, you’ve been setting standards of how ideal leadership is!

Whenever someone praises or says something nice about him, he’ll do some funny stuff to cut that person off & move to another subject. Like what he did in Shinhwa’s latest concert when Dongwan thanked him for his great efforts in getting the full rights to Shinhwa’s name back. Eric kept on kissing Dongwan to cut him off.

Or when someone praises his outer looks, & it’s known that Eric is one of the most handsome Korean celebs (he was dubbed Korea’s handsome representative) but he never brags about his handsomeness for even once, and when others tell him that he’s handsome, he’s gets so shy & flustered & tries to change topics.

and even though he’s the mighty Eric, with more than 20 years in the industry, regardless of his fame, he remains the humble Eric who still bows 90 degrees to even the hoobaes & the fans. Forever humble as Day 1. Eric really sets an example that no matter how famous you are, you should always be humble & down to earth with everyone.

The leader that always thinks of Shinhwa before himself !

& he also doesn’t think he’s doing something extraordinary!!!

and even during his solo activities, he seizes every chance to promote Shinhwa & the other members’ solo events.

Then there is this amazingly meaningful quote of Eric, that makes me feel so lucky for being a Shinhwa Changjo ..

“It’s impossible for Shinhwa to disband now even if we wanted to. Shinhwa doesn’t just belong to us, it also belongs to the fans and people who love us.”

To any group, before disbanding, think deeply of this quote. Your group doesn’t just belong to you, it also belongs to your fans & people who love you!

Now.. With every anniversary we celebrate with Shinhwa, the group that debuted in 1998 & still going strong with no disbandment & no member change, let’s forever remember that the main reason behind this is Eric, the best leader we could ever ask for. The leader who knew how to keep his group intact & overcome all troubles they’ve been through since debut. That troubles that could’ve easily made any other group disband.
Eric always puts Shinhwa as a top priority over anything else .. To him, the group always comes first. He really lives for Shinhwa!

“Eric is really like an otaku. If he gets addicted to something he’ll bury himself at home but after we left our first agency, as the leader of Shinhwa, he became the otaku of Shinhwa. Even now, he worries a lot for Shinhwa and is also in charge of dealing with external matters. He is a leader I’m thankful to and can trust.” - Dongwan

Thank you leader Eric for all of what you’ve done & still doing to Shinhwa. Thank you for keeping them as forever six .. thank you for always protecting us, Shinhwa Changjo .. Thank you for always protecting Orange .. Thank you for always protecting Shinhwa Company .. Thank you for always choosing Shinhwa over anything else no matter what the temptation is .. Everyone of us appreciates your great efforts & dedication for Shinhwa. Plz continue on leading Shinhwa for more anniversaries & more success. 2gether 4ever, walking on the same road. Never apart, friends till the end. ♥♥

#HappyEricDay ♥♥  Happiest birthday to our awesome leader Eric ♥♥

So I’m going to try not to ramble, but we’ll see how that goes.

First of all thank you guys so much for the support! I hope I don’t sound like a huge cheese ball but it means so much. You guys are really watching out for me and making sure I’m taking care of myself, which I honestly never expected. I actually didn’t expect getting anywhere near this much attention but it means so much and I feel so… Ugh, cheesy but it honestly makes me tear up a little. But the point of this is, we’re getting close to 1,000 followers and I wanna do something special for all you since you guys have been so kind and supportive! I’ve got a few little ideas on what I want to do, but I’d love to hear your opinions on what you might want for a big project. So far I was thinking I could do some long comic on all the skeletons as kids with stuff like how I see UF!paps getting his scars, and just some general goofiness from all of the boys. Or maybe a big art piece of your choice, I’ll draw out a big fully colored picture of whichever character you guys want the most doing whatever you guys want. And the last idea I had was to do a video on HT!sans’ past which I’ve been wanting to do but unfortunately haven’t had a lot of time for. And this brings me back to the big reason I made this announcement aside from a thank you and all.

On account of me wanting to do some big project, and also because lately I’ve been a little uh… Obsessive, about getting as many asks out a day as humanly possible; I might have to take a few days where I might not post anything. This doesn’t mean that I’m not going to post anything for weeks or months on end, I’m just planning on getting all the asks in my inbox answered and then putting them in a queue. This way you get your questions asked, I don’t feel pressured or stressed to answer questions everyday; and then I can post some other projects and pieces a little more regularly. I don’t know if it was unnecessary to share this with you, but I just didn’t want to leave you guys in the dark about what I’m up to or planning to do!

So thats its, if you wanna suggest something for my project you can put it in the reply thing or send it to my inbox and I’ll be sure to look it over and start setting things up for it!

Oh and also really fast, I just wanna clarify that I will eventually get around to my pre-made ideas, this is just for the next up and coming project so if there is something else that you guys might have in mind then go ahead and suggest it and i’ll set up a poll or something. This big project is for you, so I want it so be something everyone wants! Okay, then, thank you so much for taking time out to read this!! I hope you guys have a nice day!

Character Meta-Disrespect: The Douchewaffle Effect

I’m sure it’s happened to you, you play a villain, or someone otherwise really well known for a thing. Maybe they’re extremely intelligent in canon and everyone recognizes it. Maybe they’re feared by literally everyone, because of their moods and talent. Perhaps they’re known for tortures beyond belief, or maybe they are the cutest person on the planet (literally, there was an actual competition in the canon.)

But when you roleplay them, suddenly no one adheres to this. Suddenly that smart character gets talked down to and patronized. Suddenly that villain is treated like tch, so what? That torturer’s threats are completely dismissed, and that cuteness? Whatever, they’ve seen better. You’re not that cute. They’ve seen cuter lichen.

… My response in short is don’t fucking do that to someone, what the hell, you rude ass piece of flamingo turd. In long, let’s explore it.

You heard that right, my dudes: 100 (presumably) separate people have decided to stick with this loser.

And to celebrate this great phenomenon, I thought I’d do some shoutouts!
But in general, I wanna thank each and every one of you for slamming that follow button. If you didn’t make the list, do not fret: your local garbage (me) may have forgotten, as she is wont to do, and as such, she apologizes profusely in advance. Having said that, I imagine if I ever make the remarkable climb to 200, I’ll do this again, so FEAR NOT: YOUR CHANCES HAVE NOT YET ENDED.

So. Let’s get into this, shall we ? I do believe we shall!

anonymous asked:

Hi, would you tell me how one would go about starting an RP blog? They look really fun and I've been thinking about starting one :)

Having an RP blog is definitely very fun! I would recommend starting with a canon character if it is your first blog so it’s easier to make connections. If you end up making a Tolkien blog feel free to hmu anytime! :) Here’s a little guide, and I’ve divided it into sections for easier reading. I’m not sure how much you know about roleplaying, so I will give you a run down on everything I can think of! Feel free to send another ask if you have any specific questions about anything, whether or not it is listed here.

Some RP terms you should know:

  • RP/rp: roleplay
  • muse: the character that is being roleplayed
  • mun: the person behind the screen, who “writes” the muse
  • ooc: “out of character”. aka, the mun is talking, not the muse.
  • ic: “in character”. the muse is talking.
  • smut: a roleplay that includes muses in a situation. Please note that if you are under 18 it is illegal to write smut. You could get both yourself and your rp partner in very big trouble if you lie about your age to smut. Wait until you are 18!
  • thread: a roleplay in which two people reblog a post from one another, adding their muse’s responses, actions, and dialogue each time in order to further the story. When you add something to a thread, it is called a reply.
  • Non-selective, semi-selective, selective: these words tell you how picky people are with their RP partners. Non-selective people will RP with anyone that comes to them. Semi-selective people are a little more choosey, and will look over your blog to see if they think your character would interact well with theirs. Most of the time, semi-selective RPers will say yes to RPing with you. Selective RPers are more picky and say yes about 60% of the time or less. I categorize my blog as selective, and I say yes about 50% of the time.
  • mutuals only: this means that the person will not rp with people who are not both following them and being followed by them. Another word for this is “private”.
  • meme/ask meme/rp meme: a post that includes possible situations or dialogue pieces to start an rp. I have a blog over at @rpermemes which is solely rp meme posts, if you want to get a better idea of what they are, or you can check out the rp meme tag. if someone reblogs a meme, you can send a symbol or the dialogue from the meme and they answer the ask as if your muse had said that to them or if both muses were in that situation.
  • plotting: when two muns talk ooc about what they want to thread. for example, I could go to an RPer and suggest an idea I have for a thread. They add on with their ideas until we come to a thread idea that both of us are happy with. That’s plotting. Most threads start either from rp memes or from plotting.
  • Chat, para, multi-para, and novella: these are all different lengths for your thread replies to be. Chat threads generally only have dialogue with no description, and thus depend on icons to show how a character is feeling. Para threads are one paragraph. Multi para are more than one paragraph. Novella does not have a specific word count assigned to it, but I usually define threads with replies that are each over 600 words to be novella.
  • Indie: short for “independent”. This just means that they aren’t part of a specific RP group.
  • Verses: short for “universes”. It means that you can change your muse’s history or situation. Most roleplayers have a modern verse at least, which is where you put your character in the modern world. Most people use the terms AU and verses interchangeably.

There is a post here with more rp terms that you should reference if you don’t understand something! Never be afraid to ask if you don’t know what someone means and can’t find out.

Rules pages and about pages:

  • Most people have rules pages that outline what they will and will not rp. Most rpers have their rules pages at (url) or (url), in case you need to look from mobile. If you can’t find the rules at either of these links, wait until you’re on a computer and then go to their blog, and there should be a link somewhere on their theme! Don’t send anything to them unless you have read their rules page. If you can’t find a rules page, send an ask that says something along the lines of “Hi, I was wondering if you have a rules page? I can’t seem to find the link if you do have one, so if you could link me to it that would be great!” By reading someone’s rules you show that you respect their wants, wishes, and boundaries, and that’s very important!
  • Also read about pages. Many people have divergences from canon that they would like their partners to be aware of, and these are often included on their about pages.
  • Make sure you have an about page and a rules page. Even if they are very basic at first, they assure people that you’re devoted to your character, and a rules page will give a great glimpse of your personality that makes most muns more comfortable talking to you. Some things you can include on a rules page are:
    • Whether you are under or over 18, and, if you are over 18, whether you are willing to RP smut and under what circumstances. For example, do you write smut with anyone that is overage? (Don’t write smut with people under 18, and don’t write it if you are under 18. It’s illegal.) Or do you prefer to only write smut once you’ve established a ship? What is your tag for nsfw content, so people can backlist it if they don’t want it on their dash?
    • Which of your pages are required reading? For example, I require for people to read my rules and about, and other things are optional.
    • What fandoms do you RP with?
    • What things trigger you? What things do you not want to RP?
    • Are you only willing to RP with mutuals?
    • How long do you prefer to your thread replies to be? Chat, para, multi-para, novella?
    • Though I would recommend categorizing your blog as nonselective to start out, you should also put on your rules page whether you’re nonselective, semi-selective, or selective!
  • Here are some things you can include on your about page:
    • Your character’s age, date of birth, and where they are from
    • What your character looks like. Make sure to note if there are any differences between your interpretation’s appearance and their canon appearance!
    • Their history. What were their parents like? Are their parents still alive? What was their childhood like? Is there anything that has had a lasting effect on them? Have they moved house before? (This is especially important if your character does not live in the place where they were born.)
    • What is your character’s occupation?
    • What special skills does your character have?
    • What are their good qualities? What are their faults?
    • What do they love? What do they like? What do they fear?
    • What relation do they have to other canon characters?
    • Anything else that is important about your character!

Memes and first interactions:

  • When looking for your first partners, I would recommend going to blogs labelled nonselective or semi-selective. You need to get some experience writing your character and establishing connections before you attempt to start a thread with a selective or private blog.
  • If the person reblogs memes, send one in! Do not send a romantic or sexual meme for a first interaction. See if you can find a meme that is neutral in terms of emotions (for example, don’t send a meme such as “do you like me?” from your muse to theirs–how are they supposed to know if their muse likes yours yet if you haven’t written together?). Urgent starters work great for this. For example, many starter lists have things like “Run!” or “Get out of the way!” that you can send in for interesting first interactions.
  • If they don’t reblog memes, send them an ask or an IM (as long as IMs are welcomed in their rules, of course) and ask to plot. Do not come into someone’s IMs to plot without an idea of what to write. You want to make it as little work as possible for them! For example, I would be thrilled if a potential new partner sent me a message that said “Hello, I play ______ and I really enjoy your portrayal of ______. I have an idea for a plot where _______ could {do x, find x, etc.} with _______. {Here are some specifics about the thread}. Let me know if you are interested, and thanks for considering this!”
  • Reblog memes! If you reblog a headcanon meme from someone, remember to send one in to them, too–courtesy counts!
  • Make yourself a promo or two and put it in the tags to attract new partners! For Tolkien RP, I would recommend tagging it with “tolkien rp”, “lotr rp”, “hobbit rp”, “{character name} rp” and “indie rp”.

In regards to themes, graphics, and pages:

The best piece of advice I can give you is to be accommodating. People will not want to thread with you if you make them do all the work. If you go to plot, bring ideas for what to write. Offer to write the starter. Cater to the other RPers preferences–do they prefer long threads or short ones? Write your starter in the appropriate length for them. The best way to get threads across fandoms or with characters that you can’t imagine interacting is to have different verses, so that it becomes reasonable for them to interact. Be kind and open and honest. Keep yourself out of any drama. Be a nice person and do your best, and no one will be able to find fault with you. You can do it; I believe in you!! :)

Hey! I am seeing httyd 2 Saturday and I am super excited! I really hope that I don't break down crying in the theater though! Oh and can you write a fanfic about Hiccup proposing to Astrid and add some sexy stuff in it too! :P

In all seriousness, this is honestly how I think the “proposal” went down. None of that surprise+romance+ring nonsense. I’m talkin’ some proper viking/berkian stuff instead. Plus Hiccstrid’s characteristic energy.

“Who are those for?”

Hiccup paused in his buffing and relief sang through his arms like a hymn to the gods. Certainly, the distraction was a welcome one; hours of working leather left his biceps aching and his fingers raw and stung.

He put the yak cloth down and turned to his girlfriend.

“Milady,” he breathed.  His lip felt moist with sweat—he ran his tongue over the bristled skin and wiped a glove against a sooty, shiny forehead where his bangs clung to his temple.  He sniffled.

The shadows cast as Astrid entered the forge told him that the sun had started its descent.  And as he became aware of his surroundings, his stomach folded.

Frigga, he hadn’t eaten since the talk that morning.

Q&A with Ian Maxtone-Graham about a certain Waylon Sr. *with update*

As someone who is obtaining a minor in creative writing and a major in the biological sciences I am a naturally curious person, being that yours truly needs to find out a lot more about their interest. My routine is to analyze my subject of interest with the curiosity of a five-year old, then asking unlimited questions about said desire like a 4-year old with constant ‘why’s if you don’t stop me. With research you have to go to the sources. Luckily I was able to find Ian Maxtone-Graham the writer of the episode The Blunder Years, (and many more Simpsons episodes in his catalog,) and was able to hook up with him on a Q&A of a character that is pretty dear to my heart, and one with hardly any characterization or backstory surrounding his persona, which makes it even the more fun for observation and headcanon translation for my brain dictation machine.

Again, I cannot give enough thanks and appreciation for his input (though building a pontoon or stealing a yacht is out of the question,) and while some things may eventually be changed in unforeseeable plots and whatnot on the show, it’s nice to obtain just a sliver of information on a powerful force in Montgomery Burns’ life.

Though, I will curse that he may have sunk a personal ship of mine. For that you have made a powerful enemy today, my friend.    *shakes little fist. Dogs howl in the background while thunder claps like a whip above*

What is really generous is that he allowed the interpretation open to us, the fans, for some of the questions including his history and perhaps with more tether, his sexuality (”Straight, I think.”) Waylon is also outstandingly intelligent, which is really something that Burns looks in a right-hand man (and the mun of this blog really admires. I cannot thank you enough for showing me another genius-level character.) Pretty much Smithers Sr. is the Ernest Kanzler to Henry Ford (though a quick search tells me that they did have a strong dynamic, clashing a bit before Kanzler’s plans with Edsel Ford failed and then he was humiliated and shunned until death.)**

** Actually I have an update. Ian sent me an e-mail after he was linked to this article via a twitter response and apparently my source was incorrect about Kanzler becoming humiliated and shunned before death. This is what I get when my research accounts as nothing more than a couple of sites, a paperclip and a few references. Brevity is never the key.

So, I received this in my box which nearly gave me a heartattack afterwards because I thought he was going to hunt me down and kick my ass, send flying monkeys or something:

Just took a second look at your blog post and that sentence is not accurate, if,
as I gather, it was meant to apply to Ernest Kanzler.

He had a great career,
head of the war production board during WW II, which ain’t nothin. American
Industry won World War 2, and the WPB made that all work.  He worked for Bendix
and other places.  Then went back to Ford Motor with Henry II.  So played a role
in both Henry Ford eras.

I highly recommend you watch Sarah Colt’s
documentary about Henry Ford.  Ernest is in it, and it is utterly fascinating.
HF was a great industrialist but deeply flawed as a person, beginning but not
ending with an ugly lifelong anti-semitism, which was not rare on those days but
in him was pronounced.

So, thanks again to Mr. Maxtone-Graham for emerging from the shadows and pointing me in the right direction.  Whether the resulting research was propaganda or misinformation is unknown to me, but when you go deep you always have to go deeper ( and for that I will give you another carbon rod to your score. Just one. Can’t get too greedy) And I am going to give the documentary a look because I love watching documentaries and new information. Yes, as a kid, I was weird.

We give Ian Maxtone-Graham a 6 and a half carbon rod salute here at this blog, for exemplary achievement of the highest regard within the fandom and answering questions whether how dumb, insignificant or short they are. Wondering where the other half of the carbon rod went? It’s probably holding open the door to the garage or moonlighting as a paper weight or in Congress passing bills unchallenged or something. How should I know where it went as long as it comes back sober and before 11 o’clock before the news reminds me where my children are at. I don’t want another responsibility on my head, dammit.

Episode Specific questions:

1. Where did the whole idea of Smithers Sr. come from?

2. Was his name originally Ernest. K. Smithers and if so, why the name change? Was it to keep the anagram ‘Wants Him Sorely’?

3. Did you have his death in the reactor core planned from the beginning or was it going to be something else?

4. We were speculating about his job title at the plant. What was it?

5. Was there any reason for him to bring Waylon Jr. to the plant?

Character Specific questions:

1. How did he meet Burns? Was it though a nuclear project, or something else?

2. What is his birthdate?

3. I surmised from his appearances in From Cur With Love he was pretty stoic, and The Blunder Years he was also brave and caring. How would you describe his personality?

4. Did he occasionally clash with Burns? If so, what would it be over?

5. How smart is he?

6. We were speculating about how close his relationship was with Burns. How would you describe it? Would it be unrequited love on Monty’s behalf? ( you can leave that last part out if you feel that you cannot answer it. We were kind of thinking about this since some of the previous Smithers in other incarnations, including ancestal ones seemed to have a fondness for their Burns counterparts much like the current Smithers Jr.)

7. Any quirks?

8. Was he bisexual, straight or gay (asking that because lavender marriages were common at the time.)

9. What similarities and differences does he share with Waylon Jr.?

10. How did he gain Burns’ respect and admiration (I think that last term would be what you would call those emotions? I mean, I have never seen Monty act like that around another before.)

11. I know Burns is an emotional drunk, so what type of drunk would Waylon Sr. be like?

12. Did he once work at Springfield University or another college?

anonymous asked:

the thing is, i've banned kpop fcs in the past before and it has NEVER been bc they are korean?? their gifs from what i saw (this was like a year ago so maybe it's different now idk) were really over the top and unrealistic, and they didn't really fit the feel of the group i was aiming for. i feel like the same is still true today though? like i really don't see how banning them suddenly equals racism. there's more there than just their ethnicity.

So I have a couple questions for you. At that time when you were looking at Kpop FC’s and the gifs you saw were too over the top for the group you were running, did you ever reach out to the rpc and say ‘Hey is anybody good with Kpop fc’s? I need help finding one for a group that’s supposed to be XYZ?’ Because that time, I was following three that all had some level of good understanding with Kpop FC’s and could have pointed you in the direction of one that would be better for your group. Two, at that time, did you ever say, are there any Korean actors/actresses who I could use who maybe have more gifs I can work with? Three, did you ever stop and say, maybe I could compile some gifs for this FC that would work and then make a small gif hunt and post it with the bio and then I wouldn’t have to worry about over the top gifs?

If you said no to one or all of those questions, you didn’t try hard enough. AND. I am 100% sure, if you had gotten the right roleplayer who would probably be somewhat versed in Kpop fc’s, they would have been more than understanding or would have even suggested another FC where they would have better gifs to fit that character. I have done so. More than once.

Next, a year ago and now, there are more than plenty Kpop Fc’s with non over the top gifs that are roleplayable in any setting. I can probably name more than twenty off the top of my head at this moment. On top of that, there are several Western Fc’s who have hundred and HUNDREDS of gifs and literally I’ve seen their muns use like the same….ten expressions. So I don’t get your point. I’d rather roleplay with somebody who has over the top gifs rather than the same like ten bitch faces. Next, many Kpop idols have branched out into acting and many of them have tons of gifs that could fit any roleplay. Right now I could point you to one FC with over a thousand gifs ranging from happy, sad, anger, and neutrality.

I could put a group of kpop fc’s together right this second with character with all different gif ranges, from a group of only happy muses to one with sad ones, to ones with maybe more serious ones.

The thing is, the rpc has an issue with diversity. It always has. When they finally get a chance to correct it and we have rph’s who are well versed and willing to spend the time looking and compiling and making gifs for these POC fc’s, nobody wants to use them. Not to mention that Asian muses are like the least race of character/muses found around this place. So here we finally have a large group of Asian (Mostly Korean with a couple Chinese/Thai) fc’s with an abundance of gifs, and all of a sudden, we can’t use them. They gotta sit there. And then everybody squints at the rather small pool of Western FC’s who are Asian, decide they don’t have enough gifs, and then decide not to put any of them there, shrug their shoulders and say ‘we tried.’ OR. They’ll put one there, and that role will sit EMPTY for MONTHS. Why not fill that role with Kpop Fc (or even the option of a kpop fc) who somebody knows and maybe wants to play and says, ‘hey! i may be accepted here.’ But NOPE. NOT THE RPC. NOT TODAY. NOT TOMORROW. NOT EVER.

I will also point out that the KRP community has been on tumblr for years and has been roleplaying in groups with characters with these ‘over the top’ gifs and have never had a problem. If the gifs aren’t enough or aren’t what they need, THEY JUST DON’T USE THEM. THERE’S AN IDEA. THEY PARA. THEY SCRIPT. THEY DO OTHER THINGS.

And now, we have so many rph’s who make and compile gifs, some of us even specify emotions or characters they would be good for, we have fucking DIRECTORIES of kpop fc’s AND THEIR GIF HUNTS, you can ask us for fc help, when the gifs are too over the top or whatever we have people who will take the time to make icons or even brand new gifs to help, but STILL. FUCKING STILL.

So tell me then. What’s the issue. What is it? Because Ariana Grande and Holland Roden and whoever the hell else sometimes have the same like ten expressions in every gif they use and the rpc PRAISES their behinds.

So please. PLEASE. ENLIGHTEN ME. What is the reason that Kpop fc’s are banned? What? Racism. And if not racism like you claim, most of the rpc just has fucking issues because they don’t know who these people are and they have flashy shit or whatever and people feel ‘uncomfortable’ with them, but I have to sit and stare at Harry Styles and Justin Bieber, and tons of other celebs I really don’t like or care for, because that is their ‘comfort zone.’ What kind of bullshit is that. Honestly. re

Listen, all I’m saying is that if you’re going to ban Kpop fc’s, just ban all the musicians. And that ends the problem. But seeing as the rpc does enjoy their musicians, I don’t see any reason why I or many of my friends have to stop using the FC’s we enjoy because the rest of the rpc doesn’t know how to manage with lack of gif variety or whatever the excuse is every other damn week.

Fanart Monday!

Fanart of the week by @boblovesexplosions

I lost count of how many of these I’ve made so far <3

You guys keep being awesome and sending super cute fanarts, so I can’t really do anything about it!! Jeez >u<

Ok I’d like to say something: I’ve decided that I won’t post anything that’s not fanart in here. Because I keep receiving pictures and memes of things that are not realy Underfell or Undertale related at all, and I really dunno what to do with those; I am grateful for the nice thougths, but those kind of things don’t really belong in “fanart” monday. Sorry. I still appreciate them, though.

With that being said, I’ll start <3

kaijoskopycat  asked:

"Can I keep you?"

Send me CAN I KEEP YOU and watch my muse’s reaction.

You didn’t have to look at them that way!”

“Hah?! What the hell are you talking about?!”

“You know what I’m talking about, Aominecchi!” Kise’s features pinched into an expression so sour, Aomine could have sworn he’d eaten lemons for fun just to make that face.

“They asked me questions and I answered. I don’t get what’s got you so riled up. It’s not like you don’t have a harem of females going nuts over you everywhere we go.” The exasperation in his voice was clear. Try as he might to convince Kise that nothing happened with the sudden appearance of Aomine’s own horde of fangirls who recognized the ace from a recent basketball game, the blond seemed to have other things in mind.

“That’s different!”

“How’s it different?”

“Because you’re m— that’s part of my job and you were looking at them the same way you look at me when—”

“You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me. I don’t look at anyone else the way I look at you. C’mon, Ryouta…” Aomine reached for him, fingers brushing against the sleeve of Kise’s designer shirt before the copycat shied away, the same sour expression remaining as he huffed in resigned mutiny.

“Don’t touch me.”

Aomine blinked. “You serious?”

Kise shot a dagger-filled glare in his direction and Aomine swore that if looks could kill, the blond would have mastered the art. Just then, a bag full of newly bought clothes sailed through the air, hitting Aomine square in the face, followed by an exasperated noise that sounded more like a cross between a screeched huff and a high pitched growl as Kise stomped off toward his room.

Clearly, Kise wasn’t letting up. Backed into a corner and at a loss for what to do, Aomine scanned the room, gaze falling on the shelves lining the wall, filled top to bottom with the blond’s massive movie collection. Thumbing through the titles, he flinched every so often each time something banged loudly down the hall.

With the amount of attention Kise received when they were out anywhere, Aomine couldn’t understand why it was such a big deal if he were recognized in the rare instances fans would come out of the woodwork to fawn over him instead. After all, didn’t he have to put up with it when it was Kise’s turn in the spotlight?

Sighing, he spotted a movie wedged between some old martial arts film and a sappy romantic comedy he vaguely remembered watching with Kise not too long ago.

Perfect. No way he can stay pissed after this.

There was still a great deal of banging and the occasional rustle of bags behind Kise’s closed door. Aomine snorted before taking a deep breath and knocking loud enough to be heard over the theatrical commotion.

“Go away, Aominecchi!”

“Oi, Ryouta. Open up.”

Aomine recoiled as a thud sounded on the other side of the door. Gripping the handle, he slowly turned it and eased the door open, sticking the movie through the crack like a white flag.

“Les Mis?” There was a noticeable change in Kise’s tone and Aomine sighed in relief as he pushed the door open all the way, chuckling at the way Kise’s eyes brightened when he waved the movie in the air.

“Peace offering. How ‘bout it?”

Kise eyed him warily. His nose scrunched, lips pursed just so, a look Aomine knew well to mean that he’d won and the blond was only making a show of considering the idea.

“Don’t think this means you’re off the hook.”

“Wouldn’t dream of it,” Aomine said, draping an arm over Kise’s shoulder as he steered him back out into the living room.

Once the movie was in place and they were both lazily sprawled out on the overstuffed couch, it wasn’t long before Kise relaxed against him. The blond shifted, cheek pressed against Aomine’s chest and soon, the copycat was humming along to the movie’s rendition of ‘I Dreamed a Dream’, complete with sniffles and shuddering breaths in true Kise Ryouta fashion.

After a short while, Aomine’s head began to drop, his eyes heavy and struggling to stay open. He was supposed to be enacting a peace offering after all and he didn’t want to think about what Kise would say if he found out the ace had fallen asleep smack dab in the middle of what was supposed to be a romantic gesture. He wasn’t sure how much time had lapsed, but he woke up to the buzz of the television, the screen blank and movie long finished. Kise’s even breathing told him that the blond had fallen asleep as well and he was just about to doze off again when he heard the soft mumble.

“Can I keep you?”

A lone brow shot up. “Hah?”

“Oi, Ryouta,” he said, dipping his head to the side to check if Kise was awake. The even rise and fall of the other’s chest told him otherwise and Aomine’s brows quirked in confusion.

He must be talking in his sleep.

“No… girls… want to keep Aominecchi… mine…”

The ace chuckled quietly, figuring it wouldn’t hurt to answer since he was pretty sure Kise wouldn’t remember it when he woke up anyway. Inclining his head forward, he planted a kiss on top of the blond’s head, eyes half-lidded and nose buried in Kise’s hair as he took in his scent; clean, flowery, and made up of everything that reminded him of home.

“Just yours. Always yours.”

And as Aomine reclined back on the couch, eyes closing as he began to drift off again, he could have sworn he saw the corners of Kise’s lips twitch upward in that familiar telltale smile.

The concept of Alternate Universes and Original Characters

An Alternate Universe or Original Character ( Hence forth referred to as AU and OC ) are either a different version of a preset character or a brand new character inserted into a world someone else made.

Why are these kinds of characters fun?

Generally speaking, people enjoy change, new things, ideas, and more for the universes they already love! Whether it be for representation of something that they identify with or have grown to learn about themselves or have been since birth, people will want to find a way to give things meaning to them in characters that exist or don’t exist in the world they have come to love.

With that said, people are going to put spins on current characters or new characters that will change things around. Maybe change their race? Or their gender identity? Or how about make one of them have a handicap? Some people find the rules to be comfortable, wanting to stay within what has been created already and never diversify them, enjoying the solace in the well known.

And hey, that is fine.

And there are people who love to push the envelope, changing characters almost completely, keeping their natures and personalities so they would still be identifiable as the character they grew to love. Whether it be age, height, weight, shape, almost everything physical. Weiss didn’t grow up with white hair, she dyed it white? Ruby happened to be a faunus and she was able to hide it successfully? Yang hid the fact that she was a hermaphrodite? Blake was secretly waiting to kill every one in Beacon because she was a secret agent for White Fang?

This is fine, too.

Now when people start to come to others, telling them anything negative about their preferred means of roleplay, fanart, fanfics, etc., that is not constructive, and not understanding that everyone had opinions, everyone has their own way of looking at life, then you’re not gonna have a good time.

“Oh but they changed the character completely! That’s not even Pyrrha anymore, they forced blah and blah and it’s so devoid of canon that it hurts!”

So what?

Are you roleplaying with them? Are you printing out their fanart and hanging it on your walls where you have to see it everyday?

If you answer no to any of those questions, then you have no right to be upset with them over their portrayal of character. Why? BECAUSE IT WASN’T MEANT FOR YOU.

People make things up, do thing, and enjoy things that are NOT MEANT FOR YOU. People need to stop thinking “Ugh, oh god, I can’t believe this person did THIS! Makes me want to vomit!” about these things, acting like their opinions and thoughts are the only valid things in life. For you, yes, for anyone else? Nope.

Are you ready? I don’t think you are. No seriously, this is a mind blowing concept people need to realize. Oh well, ready or not here it is:

Mind you’re own fucking business.

Yeah, that’s it. Don’t want to roleplay with that mun? Ignore them. Don’t want to see that fan art? That’s a bit tricky, but the best thing you can do is get xkit and block those tags and such. And people don’t tag it? then DEAL WITH IT. There are always going to be things in life you cannot escape from and will be things you don’t like, but that is how we are able to get thicker hides and deal with the tragedy of real life. Unfollowing people is also a great way to eliminate this issue as well.

People have their own blogs and will have their own opinions and thoughts. That does not give you the right to yell at them or even to tell them that it’s wrong. Everyone has the right to speak, but that does not save them from the whiplash of their tongue.
