@fleshwerks tagged me!  Thank you friend!

I’m gonna exclude stuff on my Mass Effect blog and the chapters of my main longfic, Equilibrium, that I posted here.

Most popular:

  • Far Greater Purpose, in which Emma gets a lecture from Inquisitor Thalon Lavellan (of @princeofmorley fame).  9 notes.
  • This Time, Pup, written for OC Kiss Week and featuring Rexus and @thatgirl-who‘s Julien Charbonneau.  9 notes.
  • This ask prompt about some well-earned alone time for Emma and Eren.  9 notes.
  • This drabble.  An AU where Eren’s older brother Tasalin is alive and comes to bust him out of jail after the Conclave.  He’s not counting on @ematis‘s Lailani, though.  8 notes.
  • This ask prompt, in which Rexus ‘borrows’ a shirt from Julien, who is…less than appreciative.  6 notes.

Least popular:

Are you surprised?

No?  I write about OCs with minimal canon character appearances, I don’t update consistently, and there’s no sex.  I’ve accepted my fate, and I know better than to really expect more.  Would I like more notes?  Sure, who doesn’t?  Equilibrium’s been on AO3 for 15 months or so now and it has 351 hits, 9 comments, and 18 kudos.  Considering it’s STILL not finished and there’s literally no reason for anyone to even be looking for it, that’s…pretty good.  It means a lot of people read it because it’s mine, which is a pretty awesome thing if you ask me.  I’ve got a few people who appreciate what I do and make up the bulk of those notes up there, and I appreciate the shit out of them right back.  I’d take the readers I have over thousands any day.  ;)

Tagging: @pathfindersemail, @thatgirl-who, @bladeverbena, @elidoo, @forevermarked, and anyone else who wants to do it.  No pressure as always!

3 Study Methods You Should Use More Often

This was originally for an article writing assignment, but I thought “why not write something I can also post on my blog?” so here are three study methods that I haven’t seen a lot of in the studyblr community but are definitely worth mentioning.

The Leitner System

Flash cards have remained one of the most popular ways to study. Some people use them to memorize vocabulary, remember answers to specific questions, or even associate dates with events. Although the use of flash cards is convenient, their effectiveness has been reduced due to most people’s habits of prioritizing each card equally and therefore spending too much time memorizing the information on them.

The Leitner System, created by a German popularizer of science named Sebastian Leitner, is a more efficient method of studying that implements the concept of spaced repetition. All the cards start off in one pile. You would first scan through these cards, then test yourself. Each card you answer correctly goes to a second pile, while those you answer incorrectly should be revised then placed at the bottom of the pile. When you review the cards in the second pile and get them correct, they will be promoted to a third pile. An incorrect card will always get demoted to the first pile, even if they had previously been promoted to the last pile.

The reason why this method is so effective is that you end up reviewing the first pile of cards more frequently—the cards you don’t know very well. Some people choose to review their Stack 1 cards every day, Stack 2 cards every other day, Stack 3 cards once every three days, and so on.

Once all your cards have been promoted to the highest box, study them thoroughly and then start over. The continuous revision trains your speed so that you may reach fluency, which allows you to recall the information faster.

Timed Memorization

The name tells it all: you memorize a certain text within a time limit, normally around five to ten minutes depending on your fluency and memorization abilities. When the timer starts, you begin memorizing. When time is up, you flip to the next page, even if you haven’t finished the previous page yet. Continue until you’ve gone through all your material.

Timed memorization helps you to discipline yourself because your brain thinks that there’s no time for messing around; you have to do this here and now. Make sure to repeat the things you missed and revise everything frequently. This method is actually one of the most effective for cramming as it gives a better coverage than if you spend a whole half hour memorizing one subtopic.

The Memory Palace or Mind Palace

Sound familiar? In BBC’s Sherlock, the ‘highly functioning sociopath’ uses this method to remember vital information and facts. A mind palace is a systematic arrangement of information, each detail corresponding to a specific object in a familiar place. To ensure that you really remember everything, the objects have to appear shocking and conspicuous.

Here’s an example: if I wanted to memorize “crimson, 11, delight, petrichor (the smell after rain)”, aside from imagining Amy Pond or the Doctor saying it, I would first choose a place, let’s say my school. I’d imagine myself walking up to the front gate and seeing that the entire building has been painted the color of blood—crimson. The building would then rise as though it were lifted from the earth and crumble into rubble, controlled by Eleven, the character from Stranger Things. Now, since I can’t really picture delight specifically, I’d probably end up visualizing a colossal sign that simply reads “delight” posted in front of my school. As for petrichor, I’d imagine curves rising out of the puddles on the asphalt after a rainy night, a visual representation of the smell of the rain. Of course, these visualizations have been created to suit my memory. (I wouldn’t know if you watched Stranger Things.)

I used this method when memorizing case studies for geography, although I chose to visualize fictional places from television series and cartoons. Some people do opt to create artificial places, but these often become blurry and are easily forgotten.

As with any study method, repetition is vital to storing the information in your long-term memory. Visit your “palace” as often as you can. Soon enough, you’ll remember the data as well as you remember the place associated with the data.

So there you have it, three lesser known methods of studying that have proven to be immensely efficient. Now, there is no “correct” way to study, but there are methods that can ease your learning process.

My Thoughts on Why the Hetalia Fandom is Failing

A lot of people, including myself before have claimed that this fandom is ‘dying’. My opinion has changed since joining tumblr.  I don’t think that things are that bad just yet because people are still very much in the fandom.

The problem is that we aren’t very active. This is what I’ve noticed so far.

1)      The Popular Blogs Aren’t Active: To have and keep your fans, you need to make consistent material, rather than posting occasionally. It’s what makes people excited and inspires them to create their own content. Even if it’s just one post a day, it’s still really important to post (if you can, of course), as it maintains people’s interest. Especially when you have such a large platform of followers!

Don’t get me wrong, there are some amazing Hetalia blogs that post several times everyday, and I’m always looking for new ones to follow!

2)      Not All Fanart Is Equal: Another thing about our fandom is that new artists aren’t given a chance to thrive. There are amazing new artists out there, but people only reblog the work from the popular blogs. Why not all?  If you see great content, reblog it regardless of how much attention that blog has received.

3)      Reblog Reblog Reblog: Reblog everything, friends. The more you reblog, the more people see content and want to get into it. Simple!

 4)      Fanfiction: The fanfiction community hardly has any responses nowadays, in comparison to what it used to be. Fanfic authors spend hours of their spare time for free to create stories for you to read and enjoy. It’s so important to follow, favourite, and review. Most of the time, authors reach out and post material to connect with their audience (as is with artists too). If there aren’t any responses, then they aren’t going to bother posting.  Good Fics have gotten a lot of people through some tough times, so I would hate to see that part of the community die out.

If you have an account, support the stories you read. It makes no sense not to, and any comment, no matter how short, means the world to them. It doesn’t take you nearly as much time to support a story as it does to create one. Don’t be lazy if you’re a reader – the stories aren’t going to create themselves, they need encouragement and praise to continue :)

5)      SUPPORT ALL CONTENT: All art, stories, head canons, RPG’s, RPs, and anything else in this crazy fandom needs to be supported. If you love the fandom and want it to thrive, support is your greatest tool to make it happen.

I know some people are going to think I’m being melodramatic by writing this. Or perhaps I care too much. Still, I think the Hetalia fandom deserves better. Sure, there’s some really freaky content, but we’re a bunch of history nerds and weirdos anyways, so whatever, as long as you’re not being offensive.

This is the one fandom that I haven’t ever gotten bored with. The concept of countries being personified is just so ripe with creativity and potential. There is so much you can do with the large list of cast members, i.e. the mecca of ships and AUs. We’ve created a ton of content thus far, so why stop now?

We’re a community, so don’t you think we should start acting like it by becoming active again and supporting each other? The fact that we trended last week makes this even more possible!

Hasta la Pasta, let’s make Hetalia awesome again!

Reblog if you agree :)

More headcanons about Seijoh
  • Oikawa secretly hated Matsun and Makki at first bc he didn’t like sharing Iwaizumi with them
  • Matsun and Makki secretly hated Oikawa at first because they thought he was a diva. they were right, but they don’t hate him anymore
  • Watari loves to cook and always brings food for everyone for away games, because he is an actual angel
  • He once gave Kunimi a lesson but Kunimi ended up setting the oven on fire. Kunimi is not allowed in the kitchen anymore
  • Kindaichi also likes to making food but he can only bake. anything he tries to cook is either undercooked or burnt to a crisp but he makes a mean croissant
  • Matsukawa owned still owns a pair of heeleys
  • Once a pair of neon green boxers showed up in the clubroom. everyone was too embarrassed to bring them up, so they sit there. no one knows how they got there. no one has claimed them yet
  • Hanamakki cries during cheesy romcoms
  • Once Oikawa hosted a horror movie marathon to encourage ‘team bonding.’ it did not go well. in fact, it went Very Bad
  • Yahaba always has everything you could ever need with him. first aid? he’s got bandaids galore. hungry? take your pick from these twelve kinds of snacks. need to bury a body? here’s a shovel
  • He owns a fanny pack. Kyoutani made fun of it until Yahaba bought one for him and he learned how convenient it was. now they are the Fanny Pack Duo
  • Kyoutani has the biggest hands of anyone on the team. Watari has the smallest
  • Kunimi tends to lose his team jacket, so he steals whichever one his closest to him (usually Kindaichi’s)
  • The entire team grew stronger when Iwaizumi was vice captain thanks to his hardcore conditioning workouts
  • Makki thought that, thanks to the workouts, he might finally be able to beat iwaizumi at arm wrestling. he was wrong

Thirty-One Ways To Make Money With Tarot

Being a Tarot professional and hobbyist can be such a wonderful experience. For many, the exploration of Tarot is one of the best parts of their lives. Some Tarot users use divination as a means for a successful career. Some use it as a side income, while others enjoy Tarot because it is their passion. Tarot is a wonderful tool for people to connect with each other and provide services of enlightenment and understanding. But what if you don’t want to sell readings? What if Tarot reading is an introspective process for you? What if you are someone who isn’t comfortable reading Tarot for others or plain don’t like doing it? How will you make money then? In this post, I have provided thirty-one ways to make money with Tarot that isn’t offering Tarot readings.

Spread Creation Services

Do you like creating Tarot spreads for yourself or clients? If you have an online eCommerce shop, you can provide spread crafting services to other tarot readers or clients who may need help in formulating a Tarot spread of their own.

Deck Modification Services

If you are a fan and skilled in Tarot deck customization and modification, you can provide such a service to the Tarot and Divination communities. Some of these services may include removing borders off decks, edging decks with faux gilding, customizing card backs and fronts, etc.

Tarot Business Coaching

Sometimes as new tarot professionals starting out we could use some tailored guidance on our journey. One fantastic thing you can do to help other Tarot readers or upcoming Tarot professionals is to offer some form of business coaching. If you have been in this business for a significant amount of time, your voice, experience, and know-how can be very much sought after. Online webinars and one to one training seem to be popular in this line of work.

Teaching A Tarot Class, Workshop Or E-Course

Tarot is becoming much more accessible and more mainstream. Teaching a Tarot course or workshop is a fantastic way to help other Tarot readers on their journey. I have taught an introductory Tarot course at one of the metaphysical shops I have worked at previously and it was such a rewarding experience. You can also create an e-course that can be downloaded and followed through online means.

Books, E-Books, Zines

Your voice should be heard and what better way to share it than with a book. You can make money with Tarot by creating independently published books and ebooks be it through Blurb, CreateSpace, Amazon, etc. One of the most popular topics are how-to guides. You can also craft your own zine both hard copy and electronic ones and sell them online. Another very lucrative market in regards to selling books is having your books in audio book formats. Using services like Audible and Apple iTunes, or even selling your own packaged mp3 files through your e-commerce store can prove a great way to make money.

Guest Writing

Do you like writing about Tarot but aren’t ready to create a full book? Something you might want to consider is writing original blog posts and content for other bloggers or providing articles for sponsored tarot networks. The pay varies but it is a cool way to make money and get your name out there.

Sponsored Content

If you have a large social media following you can do promotional and sponsored written and video posts for deck publishing companies both large and independent. You can also write and record sponsored reviews of Tarot products, goods, and services.

Ads

Do you have a significant amount of followers on your social media platforms, Youtube, blog, and website? Something you can consider implementing is Google Adsense and tailored ads that you can run on those platforms. Running Adsense on your Youtube videos can get you money from advertisers who put ads before and after your videos.

Affiliate Programs

If you use sites like Amazon and Ebay you can sign up for their affiliate program. An affiliate program is when you share links to products and services like Tarot decks and deck bags with your following through the affiliate program links and if your following purchases that product through your specific link, you get paid a commission by the program because you brought them traffic and sales.

Being A Reseller

If you have a registered Tarot business, you can apply to be a deck and book reseller for various Tarot publishing companies. You essentially purchase products (decks, books, misc accessories) at wholesale pricing and resell them.

Deck Creation

Have you ever wanted to make your own Tarot deck? Creating and selling your very own Tarot deck can be a great way to share your creativity but also make money in the process.

Tarot Deck Artist And Illustrator

If you are an artist you can market your artistic ability and services to deck creators and publishing companies who are looking for artists to create Tarot decks.

Tarot Tattoo Artist

I know of some great tattoo artists who work solely on esoteric and tarot themed tattoos. This could be something to consider if you are interested in this line of work.

Sell Your Own Tarot Decks And Books

Do you have decks or Tarot books that you don’t use or want anymore? Are you trying to slim down your Tarot collection? A wonderful way to obtain some extra money is to sell your decks and Tarot books. You can sell unused and or out of print decks for higher rates.

Missing Card Services

Do you have a deck that is missing one or two cards? A great way to put a deck like that to use and help others is to sell individual cards of that deck for people to buy if they have also misplaced a card within that deck. If the deck is popular or one that is out of print, this can be another lucrative way to use something as simple as an incomplete deck to make some money.

Tarot Merchandise

Do you like to create your own Tarot inspired merchandise? Do you like making Tarot deck bags or cloths? Making and selling tarot inspired jewelry, clothing, deck bags, deck wallets, deck wraps, deck boxes, deck mats, deck cloths, t-shirts, hats, pins and other divination accessories can help make you a significant income. You can also offer custom pieces at much higher rates and even sell them through your own online e-commerce shop, fairs, and festivals or through local metaphysical shops.

Artisan Craft Templates

Do you have beautiful artisan designs that you are willing to share with other Tarot craft creators? You can provide paid video tutorials, and templates for your deck bags, tarot cloths, crochet and sewing deck bag techniques. You can also sell tips and tricks for your tarot inspired jewelry, etc.

Printables

Do you like creating tarot journal and planner pages? This can be a great way to help other tarot readers on their journey stay organized and implement tarot into their daily routine. You can create printable pages for a card of the day, week, and month posts, as well as journaling pages. You can also create and sell Tarot themed activity worksheets, Tarot business trackers, etc.

Private Tutorial

If you have no interest in creating and selling a large course but still want to provide a specific tutorial on a Tarot or divination topic, you can sell that tutorial.

Guided Meditations

Many of us have trouble relaxing or getting “into the zone” before a Tarot reading. Like audio books, you can also sell your Tarot and divination themed guided meditations to those who are interested in that type of meditation and relaxation resource.

Tarot Speaker

If you like to talk about Tarot, you may want to try giving talks about tarot at conventions, events and Tarot themed panels.

Photographer For Hire

Are you a photographer? Have a good camera? You can offer your photography services to Tarot businesses to take product shots, and tarot themed photography for their website or blog.

Writer For Hire

Are you proficient in copywriting services? You can offer your skills to those looking to better their web copy for their business, products, and services.

Social Media Marketer For Hire

Are you a social media marketer marvel? You can offer your services to Tarot businesses who want to better their social media platforms and drive more traffic to their business.

Graphic Designer And Web Designer For Hire

Are you a graphic artist or web designer who loves Tarot? You can offer your design services to Tarot businesses and professionals who need websites, landing pages, logos, header images, promotional graphics, and banners.

Subscription Services

If you are interested in offering monthly subscription services you can create a membership service on your own site or use websites like Patreon to supply your supporters with fresh Tarot themed content monthly. You can also use websites like cratejoy if you are interested in creating monthly subscription boxes that are Tarot themed. You can also create monthly subscription “communities” tailored to Tarot and your specific audience.

Mobile Tarot App

Are you proficient in creating mobile applications? You could create your own Tarot themed app and sell it on Apple and Android mobile marketplaces. You can also make additional income if your application has advertisements within it.

Paid Focus Groups

A focus group is when companies bring a diverse group of people together to talk about, discuss and try a product or service before it is released for feedback. The pay varies by company but it is a great way to make some money. I have been in two focus groups for Tarot applications in regards to their usability and ease of use.

Middle Man Mailing Service

For those who live in various parts of the world other than the United States, there are Tarot decks that come with large shipping fees. You can offer to purchase Tarot decks for others who live in a different part of the world or have a difficult time obtaining a certain deck because of their geological location and include a service fee and send them the deck at a much lower rate than they would have to pay if they purchased it directly.

Rent Out Your Space

Do you have a store front, office space or own your home? You can rent out your space for Tarot events and meet ups.

Virtual Assistant

Do you excel in helping other people’s businesses off the ground? You might want to consider offering virtual assistant services in helping Tarot readers and businesses who need an extra set of eyes and hands to help them run it.

i know this probably sounds stupid but could i ask what the woodys roundup was?? im just really curious and i cant really find anything about it after i saw you reblogged that post about it

yeah sure!

basically, woody’s roundup was started (presumably) by one person who would claim the URLs of deactivated blogs that posted Bad content (think neo-nazis, transphobes, homophobes, etc.), change the blog’s title to ‘Howdy Pardner’ and the icon to this picture of woody from toy story

a lot of the blogs worked together to make comedy posts (ie: making a reblog chain that just says YEEHAW) and tumblr ate it up because it was just. very weird, and somewhat comforting to see a Bad post before noticing the sheriff’s smug face

at the peak of its popularity, a blog called ‘woodysroundup’ appeared that served as an HQ for the ‘woody collective’, and the owner of that blog made several announcements about how to properly set-up a woody blog and what kinds of content would make a blog a candidate for being turned into woody (notably, the woody blogs were told they had to stay out of ace discourse altogether and couldnt take blogs simply for being inclusionist/exclusionist unless they were harming users in other ways)

but like most things on the hellsite, it spiraled out of control violently as people began taking the URLs of blogs who were innocent (old superwholock urls, deactivated users on popular posts, etc.) as well as creating new urls just for the sake of being part of the roundup, despite it being frowned upon by the HQ blog

woodysroundup closed their tumblr, and according to the post i reblogged earlier all ‘actual’ woody blogs (the ones who took URLs that belonged to the neo-nazis and original targets of the collective) changed their icons to a picture of spongebob with the title ‘Orgasm’
