Fall 2017 Update!

Hey, this blog still exists! It’s been about half a year since I’ve written anything up, and it’s been a bussyyyyy time in my life. Got married, started a new position and found out I’m going to be a father next spring! Amidst all of those changes, I’ve still somehow managed to see a bunch of movies over the last 6/7ish months. I wanted to do a kind of catch-up on here to make up for lost time, a kind of ‘speed round’ for the blog. I’ll still do my end of year top 8 early January I’m sure, but I wanted to get something up before then (and I’ll be honest, we ran out of work at my job today and they’re making us watch Hocus Pocus on a super small TV in the auditorium so I’m boooorrrred). So anyway, here’s some thoughts on a selection of movies I’ve caught over the last few months!

I wanted to write about this one from earlier in the year because I wrote about Director Nacho Vigalondo’s other film ‘Timecrimes’ way back in the day for the blog (check it out with the archives link above if you feel like it). This movie was a ride. From moment to moment, I had no idea where this movie was going next. Vigalondo makes movies that nobody else could, straight from his wild imagination. Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudekis are both great in their roles, especially the latter in a shockingly dynamic role that I won’t spoil here. There are a lot of gender politics at play in this one that I wasn’t expecting, but it makes for a poignant finished product that I’m super glad I caught in theaters. Check this one out at Redbox if you want a dark, funny and totally original, unpredictable experience.

What else could I say about this one that hasn’t been said by most critics and obviously the worlds box office. This movie clicked with seemingly everyone, taking the #1 spot at the box office for 2016 so far, surprising everyone. I had a blast with this movie, with it’s creative and beautifully shot action scenes and measured pace. Wonder Woman isn’t afraid to slow down and let its characters breathe a bit, creating one of the best relationships I’ve ever seen in a superhero movie between Steve and Diana. Gal Gadot is revelatory as Diana and Chris Pine is as good as ever. I’ve always been more of a Marvel fan, but I’m truly happy that the DCU finally got a win, and I hope they have plenty more to come.

I’ve been eagerly waiting for the latest from Edgar Wright and as expected, it did not disappoint. The guy is one of the most exciting new directors working right now, possibly the MOST exciting, and his latest is a pure blast of energy like only he can deliver. More akin to a musical than his usual dark action/comedies, he’s doing something different and more challenging with Baby Driver. He’s getting even better as an action director, and the editing especially in this movie deserves an Oscar. This is one of the most fun movies you’ll see all year, and I’ll recommend it to everybody I meet.

If you’ve followed this blog for any length of time, you’ll know that director Bong Joon-ho is one of my favorite directors working today. I wrote about The Host and Snowpiercer on here, and his latest might be my favorite work of his yet. His usual balancing act of tones is on display in Okja, a movie that is equal parts a Spielberg Amblin-era film with some Miyazaki, and a good amount of dark satire to top it off. It’ll make you second guess eating meat for a while after watching it. Okja also has one of the most bonkers, out-there performances of the year with Jake Gyllenhall’s psychotic TV nature-show host. This one is a Netflix exclusive, so definitely carve out some time for Okja.

The third attempt at Spider-Man finally nails the character like only Marvel studios could. Don’t get me wrong, I really love Raimi’s Spidey 1 and 2, but Tom Holland is the PERFECT Peter Parker AND Spider-Man. The movie is more of a coming of age story than a typical superhero movie, and it benefits from having a much smaller scale than a lot of the typical Marvel/superhero movies. It also benefits greatly from taking place in this universe Marvel has been crafting for almost 10 years now. It also has probably the best Marvel villain yet in Michael Keaton’s ‘Vulture’, a character as grounded and human as our heroes. It’s another great addition to the MCU, and I can’t wait to check this one out again.

The second to last one I wanted to write about is ‘It’, the surprisingly huge box office sensation. I didn’t expect much out of this movie for one reason or another. The trailers were effective, but I just expected a run of the mill jump-scare fest. I had also watched the original movie/miniseries awhile back and thought I knew what to expect. The movie definitely has plenty of jump scares, but I was surprised at how much heart the movie had. The cast of child actors were great across the board, and I was surprised at how emotionally engaged I was with their journeys through the movie. On top of that, all of the creepy clown stuff really worked for me, and Skarsgard killed in the role of Pennywise (no pun intended). I was surprised at how much I enjoyed It, and I’m stoked to see where the story goes next in part 2

I really can’t believe this movie exists in its current form. The fact that Marvel locked down Taika Waititi for a ‘Thor’ movie is ridiculous, and that he didn’t quit mid-production is even more shocking in this Hollywood climate. Thor Ragnarok is a breath of fresh air for not only the Thor series (yes it’s obviously the best of the three) but really, for Marvel as well. In my opinion, it one-ups Guardians vol. 2 (which isn’t on here but I really enjoyed) by being a straight-up delivery machine of fun and hilarious moments. Jeff Goldblum at his Goldblumiest, Waititi as the scene stealing ‘Korg’, and Thor actually being an awesome, badass character?! Yes!

That’s going to do it for this speed round on the blog! I just wanted to do a bit of a catch up on some of what I’ve been watching lately. I’ve seen a lot more than these, and will definitely write up more near the end of the year. Some of these might be on my faves list but most won’t be. If there’s something surprisingly absent from here, chances are it’ll pop up later this year. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoyed reading this, and as always hit me up to talk about any of the above movies! I’ve been busy with my movie podcast ‘Director Showdown’ that I make with Adam Daufen, so go check that out on iTunes if you haven’t and thanks for reading!

A/N: yay finally something! let me know what you think, feel free to request stuff and if you want to be added to the tagslist lemme know :)

“Can you just pay attention to me for more than a second?”

A hand waved in front of your face trying to catch your attention and was successful. You blinked, looking at your friend Veronica who was now stood in front of you, hands on her hips and a stern look on her face. You felt bad for zoning out and not listening to her but you couldn’t help that something or, well, someone had caught your attention. “Sorry, V.”

“I get that you’re in that whole stupidly smitten stage of your relationship but do you really have to stare at him whenever he’s in eye range?” She huffed, folding her arms across her chest and taking her place back by your side as the two of you made your way across the courtyard and to your usual table where Jughead and Archie were sat.

Jughead – your boyfriend – had been the someone that had caught your attention. Just like Veronica had so fondly stated, you were so smitten with the boy. The two of you hadn’t been together very long – maybe a month at the most so it was all new and exciting for you both right now. He made your heart flutter like crazy whenever you were around him or saw him, he gave you butterflies like you’d never felt before and you were sure you were so smiley you were starting to annoy everyone. You couldn’t help it! You were crazy about this boy. It was lucky that he was just as crazy about you too. Whenever you were together around your friends, they’d always roll their eyes at the two of you. You’d always be laughing at some inside joke the two of you had or sneaking a kiss in here and there. Jughead wasn’t the biggest fan of public affection but whenever he thought someone wasn’t looking or he just didn’t care, he was kissing you or making sure he was touching you in some kind of way whether it was an arm around you, holding your hand or just a small touch. It was so comforting to have that. He made you feel safe.

20 Questions for Ed Sheeran, January 25, 2017.
  • Interviewer: What's the most exciting thing in life right now?
  • Ed: Uh, the new album. Coming out third of March.
  • Interviewer: What are you completely tired of right now?
  • Ed: Uhh... I dunno. Walking Dead. I can't seem to get into it. I'm on season four and it's just, I haven't-
  • Interviewer: I'm there as well! Which episode are you on right now?
  • Ed: I'm on like episode five? They're all ill and they're coughing up blood, and-
  • Interviewer: Oh, yeah. It gets better though. Keep on watching it bro.
  • Ed: See, everyone's been saying that, but I've watched like sixty episodes now, and I'm like, I can't quite... so yeah, I'm trying to get through it.
  • Interviewer: What song took you the least amount of time to write?
  • Ed: Thinking Out Loud.
  • Interviewer: What's the first thing that you do when you get an idea for a song?
  • Ed: Uhh, I shut the doors and go away from people.
  • Interviewer: If you could teach one subject at a school, what would it be?
  • Ed: Music. I'm actually going back to teach music at my old school soon.
  • Interviewer: Beautiful, I like that. Did you ever have detention during growing up and going to school?
  • Ed: 'Course, all the time.
  • Interviewer: All the time? Every day?
  • Ed: All the time.
  • Interviewer: What's your favorite drink?
  • Ed: Uhhh... beer. Ale. Like ale. Good, good English ale. Does Finland do good ale?
  • Interviewer: I don't know about that. Not so good. It's okay, but I think it's better in England.
  • Ed: Yeah. You can't drink too much of it though 'cause it's so heavy, it just, I just fall asleep. So I have three and I fall asleep. But the first one is like... glorious.
  • Interviewer: What's your favorite food?
  • Ed: ...Fish and chips? I reckon. Fish and chips. If you give me a fish and chips and an ale, pfft, game over. That's my day.
  • Interviewer: That's perfect. That's heaven. What's one thing you need to have in your fridge always? No matter what-
  • Ed: Ketchup.
  • Interviewer: Ketchup? With fish and chips.
  • Ed: I've actually refused to eat fish and chips when there wasn't any ketchup. I just think it's a travesty.
  • Interviewer: I get that. What's your favorite movie of all time?
  • Ed: Goodfellas.
  • Interviewer: Oh that's a good one. Classic. Favorite TV show?
  • Ed: A show called Love/Hate actually. It's an Irish TV show, like Gangland Dublin. It's amazing.
  • Interviewer: What's the funniest thing you've ever read about yourself on the internet?
  • Ed: That I introduced Adele and her husband Simon. Um, 'cause I do - I now - know them, but like when that came out I, well I'd met Adele, but I'd never met Simon. So I don't know how I could've introduced them.
  • Interviewer: Would you love to work with Adele?
  • Ed: Yeah. I don't think anyone's going to work with Adele. I think Adele kind of doesn't want to work with anyone. I think she does her own thing. So yeah, I think I'd say yes but I don't think it would ever happen.
  • Interviewer: What's the best way to relax for Ed Sheeran?
  • Ed: Sleep. Always a good way, yeah.
  • Interviewer: That's what I do as well. Name one thing you can't live without.
  • Ed: Um. My cats.
  • Interviewer: How many cats do you have?
  • Ed: Two. And they're GREAT.
  • Interviewer: Are you thinking about getting a third one?
  • Ed: I think it'd be unfair. They're sisters, so if you add another cat into the mix it might get weird.
  • Interviewer: What scares you the most?
  • Ed: Uh, heights. Yeah.
  • Interviewer: Me too, I'm afraid of heights. Have you ever done a bungee jump?
  • Ed: I did, yeah. I hated it. Have you done it?
  • Interviewer: Really, you did it?! So you've probably beat that then.
  • Ed: No, no it's made it even worse. Even worse, yeah. Never do it.
  • Interviewer: Really? Okay, I'm not gonna do it then. Thanks for the tip man.
  • Ed: Oh god, I'm just remembering falling down that, like oh god, it was horrible.
  • Interviewer: What was your first job?
  • Ed: My first job, I worked in a pub. I washed, I did the washing up in a pub.
  • Interviewer: If you could travel to any place in the whole world, where would you go?
  • Ed: ...Iceland. Iceland again. I love, I love, I love Iceland.
  • Interviewer: So you've been there, like-?
  • Ed: Once. But it was one of the best places I've ever been to.
  • Interviewer: Have you ever been to Finland?
  • Ed: Yeah. I've been to Finland, yeah. I think I played a small show in Finland once.
  • Interviewer: If you were in a boyband, what would the band's name be?
  • Ed: Wrong Direction.
  • Interviewer: [Laughs] Wrong Direction, I love that. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
  • Ed: Always be nice to people.
  • Interviewer: That's cool. It works out every time. If you could work with any artist in the world, who would it be?
  • Ed: Beyonce. Beyonce. I have worked with her before, but not on an original song.
  • Interviewer: Could you name three things that make you happy right now? This Wednesday.
  • Ed: Uh, my cats. Pictures of my cats. And hearing about my cats. I like my cats. Three things.
  • Interviewer: [Laughs] What's the biggest no-no purchase you've ever bought?
  • Ed: No-no? Astin Martin. Astin Martin, yeah. I only drove it a couple of times.
  • Interviewer: Really?! How much was it?
  • Ed: It wasn't cheap. I feel like, I felt... I got it, and I felt cool. And then I felt like an idiot. I don't think sports cars are for me.
  • Interviewer: Do you still have it?
  • Ed: I do still have it, yeah. I let my manager's wife drive it. She uses it.

This quaint little coffee shop with the bright yellow front and flower pots by either side of the door. You remember the first time you moved down the street. Always open and it was cute. The first time you went in, you were welcomed with smiles and chatter. It was usually quite busy but you did prefer it when it was quiet.

It was called caffeine, simply just caffeine. It was as simplistic as that.

You sat in the corner, you donned it your corner. The little round table near the window, elegant petite flowers decorating the sill and singular daisy in a small vase in the middle of the table. The shop itself wasn’t amazingly done up like costa or Starbucks, it was subtle and little.

Cracking paint of the walls like you would expect from a house in Spain, where you sit in the sun with a newspaper and sip from a tall glass of fresh orange juice. It was stunning, you loved every little thing about the place, even more so the very individualistic cute owners.

The seven boys who named themselves Monsta X.

You’ve lived in Seoul now for 2 years, and every Thursday and Sunday morning, you go and sit in the coffee shop to study for a few hours. Sometimes it bustled like the cities high streets, sometimes it was quieter than a mouse.

The little shop painted so many dreams for you. The little scenarios playing in your head about the day you will sit there and possibly meet your other half, or maybe be inspired to do something.

It was the little things.

The seven boys who lived above the coffee shop. From what you had observed while going there is that the official owner of the shop only works there part-time, usually in sports clothes so you assumed he was either a gym maniac or a trainer.

He had full lips, a heart like face. Expressionless most of the time, like you could tell him a joke and he would shrug it off. You’ve seen him interact with the other guys and he’s gentle, softer than you thought. You’ve seen him look over at you several times from the reflection from the window while you studied. He was cute.

The second boy that caught your eye was the main manager, Minhyuk. You knew his name because even though you’re a regular by twice a week, he still introduces himself to you.

“Hi, Good morning! I’m Minhyuk and welcome to caffeine” The man himself seemed like he was always on caffeine, it was impossible to be that happy all the time. As you thought.

You remember last autumn, the orange brown leaves smothered the ground. The air had a slight chill and there was a heated argument between Minhyuk and one of the boys. He seemed so out of character, but you didn’t know him.
Wonho, he was the man that served customers. You knew him from the time he flirted with you, but you’re too awkward that you didn’t recognise it. He spent the rest of the morning being teased about the latter of the situation. Occasionally he would smile shyly at you before chatting with customers.

You noticed another worker. He was tall, thin, but very handsome. He often looked like he just woke up from a nap, with his fluffed and ruffled from moving about. He was usually singing away by the piano with another man. You didn’t know his name, but he was picture worthy.

The piano man.  He did have bright pink hair, but it was now a dark brown. You preferred it, it suited his face better. He often wore a concentrating face, his fingers dancing along the keys of the piano with such elegant ease as his voice filtered through the small shop. He was literal music to your ears; it was nice to listen to. He was the man that the boy who naps sings with.

A sullen man. Skulking about, wiping tables, clearing tables and wiping or sweeping floors. Often dressed in darker colours and had a round-like face. He was handsome too, the gene pool for these guys were astonishing and you often thanked the heavens for being so blessed. He introduced himself as I.M at first, but the more you went, the more you talked to him. He lets you call him by his real name, Changkyun. His voice was deep.

The final man is the man that caught you off guard the most. He was beautiful to look at. Tall with swollen cheeks and small eyes. He glimmered like the sun, or well more because he was energetic and was the epitome of caffeine. You knew he was the one who injected laughter and energy into everyone else.
You liked to people watch, they were the most exciting you had seen in a long while.

You were there right now. They were huddled into a small group around the coffee bar. You smiled at them before returning to your studies.
You were just finishing making notes on one the books pages when the small group that was huddled and gradually shifted towards you. Slowly, bit by bit, they edged towards your table and shouted surprise, scaring the life out of you.

You clenched at your chest, shouting “oh shit” before throwing the book at one of them.

“Oh shit” You jumped up, “I am so sorry. You just scared me and usually when I’m scared, I throw things and from there it gets messy” you helped the one in the sports clothes up, it was him the book hit.

“I’m still really sorry” you blushed out embarrassment. Great y/n, Just great.

“It’s ok” he shook it off with a smile, the first smile that you had seen from him ever.

“Can I help you?” you sat down, wondering why they were hovering near you. Before the one that caught your eyes brought a plate from behind him. There was a small cupcake with a sparkly purple candle in it.

“Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, happy birthday Dear…” they looked at you, nodding their heads lightly towards you.

“Oh right yeah, Y/n” you awkwardly smiled, they all laughed lightly at you.
“Dear Y/N, Happy birthday to you” they sang so effortlessly, their voices like liquid gold, enriching.

“Guys this is so cute, but my birthday is tomorrow” you waited for the uprising of complaints but they just looked at each other with disappointment. You watched them with an amused expression.

“You said it was today? 25th of march? Shownu?” the trainer put his hands up in defence. So, that was shownu hmm, you thought.

“No, it was Changkyun! He’s the one that’s talked to Y/N the most” they all looked at him, heads snapping his way.

“Sorry, I remember you wearing a birthday badge last year, I must’ve confused the date” he shrugged with a blush.

“I’m impressed though, this is so sweet” you didn’t want to eat the cupcake, it looked to perfect.

“Well, you’re always here. Every Thursday and Sunday at precisely when we open at nine thirty in the morning” Minhyuk smiled, proud of his observation.

“So precise” you laughed, “I’m surprised you noticed me, I just tuck myself away in the corner away to study” you smiled with him, these guys were so delightful to be around.

“We know” The tall sleepy one replied, “I’m Hyungwon by the way” he offered his hand, yours looked large in comparison to his. You shook his hand gently.

“Jooheon brings you drinks when you’re not looking, you always look confused when you realise” you raised a brow in surprise.

“how much do I owe you?” you searched through your bag for your coin wallet, only to find it empty.

“When I get the money, I’ll give you the money back” you half begged, not realised the free coffees.

“Please, it’s on us” the one who catches your eye all the time stood forward. “I’m Jooheon, it’s lovely to meet you” his smile was infectious and you couldn’t resist.
“you’re all so wonderful” you smiled, before your watched beeped.

“I’m sorry guys but I have to go to class now. I’ll see you on Sunday though” you shoved your books into your bag before pushing the chair under the table, then taking the coffee cups to the counter.

“Thank you so much!” you shouted, before dropping a tip in the jar.

You walked out of the building, the various shouts of goodbyes behind you. The sun was in your face, blinding you as you walked towards the university.

“Y/N!!” the voice shouted you, soon a hand grabbed your shoulder.

“Wow you walk fast” Jooheon sucked in air, “You left your cupcake” he held a paper bag in front of you. The brown paper was so bland in comparison as to who was stood in front of it.

The sun bounced of him and complemented all the angles of his face, his smile becoming more and more stunning.

“Uh thank you Jooheon” you took the paper bag, putting in your bag neatly to avoid crushing it.

“Oh by the way, Changkyun wasn’t joking” he smiled toothily, like he was hiding a major secret that you weren’t allowed to know.

“Joking about what?” you dead panned.

“Your smile. It’s beautiful” he turned and ran back into the shop, leaving you stood there in half shock, registering what he just said.

“Jooheon? She’s still stood there” Wonho let go of the blind from the window.
Good” he smiled, pouring coffee into a takeaway container.

“Hey, Y/N. Wait a sec; I need to talk to you.” A voice was shouting from behind, making her turn around. She was met by the sight of her crush, Toby, who was waving at her, a happy smile on his lips. At first, she thought he meant someone else - never would he know her name nor would he even want to speak to her. But after he repeatedly called her and ran up towards her she was sure he meant her.

Y/N crossed her arms in front of her chest, a shy expression on her face. She was hiding behind her hair, trying to avoid to look him straight into the eye. Nervously she tugged on the hem of her shirt, pulling it down in an attempt to make her look slimmer and give her more confident.

Ever since she was a child, she had some pounds more than everybody else around her. She had always been the one with a big belly, broad hips and slightly squishy thighs. Although she had tried many diets and different sports over the years, nothing had changed her appearance. No matter what, she stayed the way she was.

This was what had given her some insecurities about her looks and herself in general. Of course, her friends reassured her they liked her for herself, but there was still this part of her that hated it. Hated that she was the outsider that no one gave attention to while everyone else was constantly asked out and invited to things.

But maybe that would change now.

“Do you have any plans tonight?” Toby asked. Toby was the complete opposite of Y/N, at least in his looks. Since he was on the football team of their college, he had a muscular body and tanned skin. Many girls had a crush on him and, adding to his good looks he was too charming, sweet and humorous.

“Not exactly.” She stuttered, unable to comprehend what he was saying between the lines. He wanted to meet her. Tonight. Alone.

“Awesome. Would you like to go to this new bar with me? I’ve heard it’s pretty cool there.” He had a big grin on his face; his hands shoved in his jeans pockets.

Everything inside of Y/N seemed to erupt in bursts of joy. He wants to meet me, she singsonged in her head, over and over again. She just couldn’t believe it. No one ever wanted to meet her, go on a date with her, before. Sure, there had been times she went out with guys, but it never felt good, and it had always been her who invited someone.

When she answered her voice seemed to be higher than usual, revealing her excitement. It was nearly like a squeak. “Yeah, that sounds great.” She could feel the heat rising, warming her cheeks. But it didn’t seem to bother Toby as he was still smiling at her, telling her he would meet her there at 7 p.m. He walked back to his friend and left Y/N who still couldn’t truly understand what had happened.

           later that day

Since she got home, she was preparing herself for that date. She had spent far too much time browsing through her wardrobe trying to find the perfect outfit to wear. Ultimately she chose a cute, dark blue dress which ended right under her knee. Its sleeves were half-length, covering her arms up to her elbow. Even though she normally hated dresses, she thought it was good looking on her and perfect for this occasion.

At the moment she was standing in the bathroom, directly in front of the mirror. She was trying out different hairstyles, unable to find the one that was great. The problem was, every time she put her hair out of her face, it just looked so round

“Keep them open.” A familiar male voice said behind her. Startled, Y/N turned around and was met by the sight of her best friend, Kai Parker. He was casually leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed in front of his chest. Like always he was looking at her with his typical smirk.

Y/N couldn’t even remember how it had happened that she became best friends with him, the dangerous, bad, sociopathic heretic. Not that she wasn’t aware of his past, but she had always seen a sliver of good in him. Even more after the merge with his brother Luke. And somehow - maybe because she was the only one who wasn’t annoyed by him constantly talking - they had started to hang out sometimes until they had become some kind of friends. They even moved in together a month ago after Y/N had to leave her old apartment due to restoration work on the building she lived in. So Kai had been so kind to let her stay at his place, even moving on the couch so that she could have the bedroom to herself.

“Are you sure?” Y/N asked, exhaling deeply. Kai took two steps towards her, grabbing her shoulders and made her look up at him. His grin had changed into an honest smile as he gently brushed her cheek, putting a strand of hair behind her ear.

“More than sure. You are beautiful, Y/N, believe me.” Kai assured her, even though to her it was hard to accept. Especially considering the fact that he liked to flirt with pretty, skinny girls all the time the two of them were going out together.

Nevertheless, the corners of her mouth were twitching because of his comment. Somehow Kai was one of the only people who were always able to make her smile. She pulled him closer to her, wrapping her arms around him and placing her head in the crook of his neck.

“Oh, and if it gets boring, you can call me, and I’ll be there in a jiffy.” He grinned as he pulled away from the hug to poke her nose. A smile spread across her lips, and Kai left the room again giving Y/N time and space to do the last things before it was time for her to go.

Nearly half an hour later she was finally ready. Following Kai’s advice, she kept her hair open. Today was one of the only days she felt stunning despite her few pounds more. Even though she wanted to say goodbye to her best friend before she would drive away, he was nowhere to be found. So Y/N just shrugged and continued her way towards the bar.

It was 6:45 PM when she stepped inside the bar. Looking around she tried to see if Toby was there already. Only when she couldn’t see him sitting there, she walked towards the bar and sat down on a chair. She ordered herself a glass of water, not wanting to start with alcohol since she needed to drive back home and not wanting to be drunk before Toby arrived.

She felt her heart leaping in her chest; nervousness and excitement the most prominent emotions she felt right now. What if he wouldn’t show up? What if it was all just a trick? No, she thought, I shouldn’t believe this. He is going to show up, but right now it’s still too early.

6:55 PM, still no sign of him. Although he still had five more minutes, Y/N couldn’t shake the feeling that something bad was about to happen. He would either cancel or worse forget about their date and never explain her a reason why.

While Y/N was getting more nervous with every passing minute, Kai was standing hidden in the corner of the bar. He had put a cloaking spell on himself, so that he wouldn’t be realized by anyone. Not that he didn’t want Y/N to know about his presence it was just that he knew she wouldn’t approve him being here as it would make her feel like she couldn’t take care of herself and constantly needs the help of her best friend.

7:10 PM and Toby still didn’t show up. Kai could see the growing disappointment in Y/N’s eyes. Every time the door was opened, she looked up, hoping her date eventually decided to stop by. But he never did. All this just fueled Kai’s anger more. Whenever Toby was going to show up, he definitely would be hit by Kai’s wrath. To him, no one was allowed to hurt his Y/N without consequences.

Twenty minutes and three glasses of water later the door was opened, and finally, Toby was there. With a smile on her face, Y/N got up, waving towards him. A gesture he didn’t notice as his eyes went towards a beautiful girl sitting on a table with some friends. She was waving at him, too, so he approached her. Y/N watched her getting up and hugging him, placing a kiss on his cheek, breaking something inside of Y/N. Hurt and anger were flowing through her.

Before anything else could happen, Toby started choking. His hands moved to his throat as he coughed blood. With quick steps, Y/N walked towards him with a frightened and surprised expression. Everyone in the bar was now watching Toby who just couldn’t stop and fell to the floor. His face turned lilac, unable to breathe air.

“Stop it!” Y/N screamed, knowing who was responsible for it. She should’ve known he would be there, Kai always had to be protective of her and followed her to everywhere she was going.

But nothing happened.

Toby’s breath became even more uneven, and a puddle of blood built itself in front of him. The girls on the table did run away by now, and only Y/N seemed to care about what was going on. Just like Kai had compelled everyone else in the bar. He wouldn’t do something like that, would he? She thought.

“Kai! Please!” She pleaded, desperately. Even though she was still hurt, she didn’t accept hurting and nearly killing Toby. Finally, he stopped coughing, taking his hands off his throat. He remained on the floor while Y/N looked around, furious, trying to find her best friend.

Indeed, she eventually found him standing in one corner, his hand outstretched in front of his chest. A fire was burning in his darkened eyes which were filled with hate and anger. His body seemed tense not showing a hint of kindness. Slowly, carefully, Y/N moved towards him. She was aware how difficult it would be to calm him down, but she couldn’t let him kill someone just because he did hurt her by not showing up punctual and then only having eyes for some random girls.

Kai didn’t even realize Y/N was moving closer to him since he was focused on the weakened guy whose white shirt was slowly soaking up the blood on the ground. She put her hands on his shoulders, blocking his visual field and forcing him to look at her.

Shocked about the darkness and rage burning in his look she didn’t know what to do to cool him down. He didn’t even seem to be in the right state of mind.

“Let go of me!” He spat, leaving a puzzled Y/N as he pushed his way past her and towards Toby. Grabbing him by his throat, he lifted him up, his feet a few inches above the floor.

“Tell me why you wanted to hurt my best friend.” Kai was compelling him. Fear clearly visible on Toby’s face he began to explain his reasons. Y/N stood still by, listening, as tears started glistening in her eyes. She really thought he was different but instead, he was even was then everyone else and wanted to embarrass her for her looks again publicly.

“Who in their right mind would want to be with her? Have you seen her, dude?” What was even worse than just his words was the fact he meant everything thanks to his compulsion. She knew she wasn’t the prettiest, skinniest girl but actually hearing her crush say something like this broke her heart, shattered it into million pieces.

When she couldn’t stand being there anymore, she ran away. The tears were uncontrollably flowing down her cheeks, dropping on her clothes and the ground. She didn’t even know where her legs were taking her; she just wanted to get away. Away from Toby, away from Kai.

The second she thought about Kai she realized how bad of an idea it had been to leave him there alone. Now he’d definitely break Toby - but she didn’t care about it anymore. She could even accept it now.

Out of breath, she had reached a little park. Sitting down on a bench she took her heads in her hands, allowing the tears to fall. If she would’ve just stayed home and not believed him this wouldn’t have happened. Instead, she’d most likely sit on the couch in her apartment, watching a movie with Kai - as she did so often.

Suddenly she felt a weight on the bench next to her. Someone was putting his arms around her, pulling her closer. She breathed in the familiar scent of Kai who now slowly rubbed her back in little circles.

All his anger had been blown away the instance he had noticed the tears building in Y/N’s eyes. In lieu, he felt a sudden urge to run after her to comfort her. So he had compelled Toby to forget everything that happened (and to never go anywhere near Y/N ever again), and he had used his vampire speed and hearing to find her. Trying to make out her heartbeat or her sobs he had finally reached the spot where she was curled up on the bench.

“Hey.” He muttered, his voice quiet and filled with guilt. Y/N looked up, gazing straight into his blue eyes which seemed to be even bluer right now. “Don’t take it to heart; he’s unable to appreciate you for what you are. He doesn’t deserve you.”

Although she could feel the corners of her mouth twitch, she didn’t want to reveal that she was glad about his kind words.

“But he was right. I am…” Before she could finish her sentence, Kai had shut her off by placing his finger on her lips. He took her hands in his and stood up, moving, so Y/N had no other choice than to follow him. He was walking fast, making it hard for her to catch up.

They walked a few minutes in silence until they reached their apartment door. Kai opened it and dragged her straight to the bedroom. He stopped in front of the large mirror, standing right behind Y/N, their bodies so close they nearly touched.

Y/N’s eyes were still red and puffy from the crying, and wet stains had built itself on her dress. She didn’t like the way she looked right now even though - at the moment - she wasn’t focussing on her belly or her thighs or her hip.

Kai rested his head on her shoulder, hugging her from behind. A smile showed on his face as he kept staring at her lovingly, making her heart beat a bit faster. His fingers lightly trailed up and down on her skin, sending shivers down her spine.

“What do you see?” He whispered in her ear with a low voice that somehow seemed different. In her confusion of this question, Y/N shifted her head to the side to be able to look at Kai. But he turned it back, so she was looking directly at her reflection. Still befuddled about what he was trying to achieve with this she sighed deeply.

As she didn’t give him an answer, he continued, “I see a beautiful girl who’s just insecure about her looks. But she doesn’t have to be because she is the most awesome and prettiest you could ever meet. Even if she doesn’t have the figure, she wishes to have, she forgets about every other quality she has. Her big, kind heart, her unique humor and the ability to bear with me all the times.“ His last comment made her laugh, and again she felt tears in her eyes. Only it were tears of joy this time.

Now she turned around, so she was able to her real best friend, not just his reflection. She hooked her arms around his neck, swiftly giving him a kiss on the cheek. He was looking at her with a big smile, his hands on her hips.

“Promise me, from now on you’ll not care about anything negative anyone says about you. They don’t know you like I do. And like I said, you’re the greatest girl I’ve ever met.” He went on, wiping away her tears with his thumb. Letting his hand rest on her cheek he began to stroke it gently.

“Thank you, Kai. You’re not so bad yourself.” She smirked, making them both laugh. Just then she realized she didn’t need any guy like Toby in her life, anything she truly needed was her best friend who would always stay on her side. Even though he might seem dangerous towards everyone else, he was her constant source of happiness. Unfortunately, she hadn’t seen it before.

But now that she knew, she wouldn’t let her insecurities take the best of her. Never again.

Imagine Joker stopping you from committing suicide

Your P.O.V.

Tears swelled myeyes as I stared down at the dark sea that could swallow me into it’s cold depths. It was night in Gotham and in the city everyone was awake. Gotham city, a city that loved heroes and villains. It didn’t know boredom. Yet it had someone like me in it, making the city dirtier. I was worthless.

I was fired a week ago and now I got a letter that my rent has been due ages ago. I was broke, I had no friends and no boyfriend. My life was a complete mess and I couldn’t take it anymore. So I left everything, wearing some black clothes and I walked to the shore. Gotham City was huge, of course it had to be since it was a city of millions of people. Soon there would be one less.

My E/C roamed the black water and I sniffled in pain. I just had to jump and let the weigh around my ankles pull my body to the dark bottom of this mysterious water. No one could know for sure how many people were hidden there, but I knew that there would be one more. ‘’Fuck’’ I whimpered in pain as I tried to find the last bits of courage to actually step over the edge.

‘’I wouldn’t do that if I were you’’ A dark and deep voice broke the silence, making me think of something else than the water. My body froze and I bit my trembling bottom lip so I wouldn’t start sobbing loudly. ‘’Nothing can possibly be so bad that a pretty girl like you should do that’’ He continued and I noticed that his voice was closer, nearly behind me.

‘’Go away’’ I cried weakly and inhaled a shaky breath. ‘’Nah, might not’’ He shrugged and then I felt a hand touching my shoulder. I turned a little so I could see this man who gently touched my arm. Suddenly my heart jumped to my throat and I felt like jumping to death could be safer than being here. My eyes scanned the pale man who had green hair and very piercing blue eyes that had seen more sins and crime than I had ever heard of. I saw a purple leather jacket and his chest covered in tattoos many would consider strange.

‘’Now Pumpkin how about we walk away from the edge and find something else to do?’’ He suggested calmly and looked deep into my red and glossy eyes. I knew I should be scared, but since my life sucked so much I only saw this homicidal maniac as someone very interesting. Seeing him from so close was nearly hypnotizing.

‘’Come on, I won’t bite ya’’ He reassured me and then reached out his hand. I gulped but then put my hand in his and let him walk me away from the edge of life and death. He sighed and kicked the weights away from my legs and I heard as they fell into the sea. ‘’What’s your name love?’’ He asked me and seemed pleased that he got me away from that situation. ‘’I’m Y/N’’ I whispered and wiped away my tears. Although I didn’t die now, I felt like I would soon. He’d forget about me in a few minutes and I’d be back at the edge.

‘’That’s a pretty name for such a lovely girl. It would be a shame for someone like you to go to waste’’ He spoke in a way that made me listen closer. He seemed very special. And that smile. Joker was crazy and he was a murderer, but right now I saw him as the most exciting person I have ever run into.

‘’I’m Joker. I have a feeling that you and I could commit loads of crimes together’’ He laughed by himself and kept walking with my hand still in his. My heart skipped a beat from his words. ‘’What do you mean?’’ I nearly stuttered. I watched as he fished out some keys from his pocket and pressed it. I heard a car unlocking and not so far away from us I saw his red fancy sports car. ‘’Oh there must be some dicks that have made you feel this way. Wouldn’t it be fun to shoot them?’’ He asked me and then opened a car door, almost like it was an invitation to join his idea and go on a killing spree.

‘’You’re the first person who has the same idea as I’’ I spoke clearly and then sat in. ‘’Oh I knew you would be fun’’ He cheered and then shut the door. Little did I know that this was the beginning of mad love..

I’m respecting y'alls right to be upset and heartbroken over the Sanvers situation. In another life I too would be reacting the way most of you are. But right now I’m just excited they didn’t kill her.

All that being said I’ve seen a bunch of people go on about ruining the show the way the 100 fandom did. I just really want all of you to take a real hard look in the mirror if that’s your reaction to this if you were silent in regards to the rampant racism on the show.

I want you to know that if you found the racism on the show to be negligible but now you wanna kick up a stink and fight and be like the 100 fandom that says a lot about you as a person. Namely that racism doesn’t matter to you and you’re not a good person.

Right now, the most important and exciting thing to happen in my life, is the next episode. But at the same time I’m terrified, because writers are going to do something and make Cas leave the Winchester’s side :( I read a theory that Jack is accidentally going to zap Cas to the bizarre universe, and it is probably going to happen and it’s going to be so damn painful to watch him.

Just let Dean and Cas be together for a whole season instead of making Cas leave or disappear.

anonymous asked:

When will you be continuing “When Everything’s Made to be Broken”? My absolute fav right now btw!!!

Alright.  This has been sitting in my inbox since Friday and I’ve been wifflewaffling on how to respond since I saw it.

Here’s the thing.  I LOVE feedback, and I love Love LOVE getting messages in my box about my fic.  What writer doesn’t?  It’s what we crave, it’s validating, it’s encouraging, and it can be very motivating, especially for those of us that don’t get thousands or even hundreds of notes on our fics.  Don’t get me wrong - I have a select group of supporters that are freaking FANTASTIC, that consistently cheerlead, reblog, send asks, and send messages, and this has nothing to do with them (you know who you are, you lovely and wonderful people), but all things considered, it’s a fairly small group.  So when I get an ask, I’m freaking *thrilled* because this isn’t an everyday occurrence for me, which is why I usually give the benefit of the doubt when I get something kinda iffy - not because I’m that optimistic regarding the intentions of the sender, but because feedback is often so limited that I tend to feel that beggars can’t be choosers.

This ask, though?  This hurt.  I’ve no idea what the sender intended, but this made me feel like my efforts aren’t good enough.  I mean, I put out a part five days before this ask came in.  Five.  Days.  And this part was over 3000 words.  These were 3000 words that I wrote when I was trying to get my 25 page lit review done for school.  These were 3000 words that I was staying up late for, NOT SLEEPING when I needed to because I love the story and didn’t want to make my supporters wait any longer.  3000 words that I put to paper while I was planning a 20 minute presentation for school, a project which comprises a significant portion of my grade.  3000 words that I managed to string together while I found out my mother-in-law has stage 4 cancer, sat through 2 surgeries and three hospital visits, and am now helping the husband coordinate her placement into an assisted living facility because she is no longer capable of safely living on her own.  This part was written while I dealt with the daily grind of raising 2 toddlers and trying to keep my house together, on top of trying to cope with the realities of my life that are too painful and personal to share here.

This message just told me that all the work I put in wasn’t good enough, that more is needed.  The “ My absolute fav right now btw!!! “ that was thrown in feels like an afterthought - something that would have been perfectly lovely and encouraging all on its own, but now is ultimately meaningless since it’s just an add on to a demand for more.

12 weeks - I made it!

I can’t quite believe it but the first hurdle is over.

To see this tiny little blob on a screen and know I’m carrying them is the most terrifying but exciting feeling out.

Right now my sickness has calmed down, my boobs have exploded and I’m starting to grow a tiny little bump.

It’s really happening, I’m having a baby!!
