I’VE ALWAYS KNOWN IT WAS YOU BERTRAND YOU LITTLE BITCH!!!!
Jk I love Bertrand hahaha. I was pissed off for about five minutes but like… how even… there is just no way I can hate him… I just wanna touch his perfect hair…..
Okay I got distracted lmao but let’s just be clear about this: What he did was super dumb. From his perspective, yes, it makes sense and I’m not going to dispute that; he needed money and he thought he had no other viable option left that could prevent the ruin of his house. It doesn’t excuse what he did, but at the very least it offers us an explanation why he did it in the first place.
However, imagine what the repercussions would have been had the press actually published those pictures! It would have adversely affected Liam’s reputation so close to the beginning/right in the middle of the social season. This would have been terrible not only for him, who would soon be king, but also for Cordonia’s economic outlook, especially since they were starting the transition to a new leader. There’s always plenty of uncertainty during election period; I imagine it’s the same when a new king is about to take over.
It’s also worth noting that while the timing of Bertrand’s deed isn’t specified, it looks like this happened sometime during the social season. This means they’d already introduced MC as the candidate representing House Beaumont. If she fell from grace midway, wouldn’t that also reflect on House Beaumont because of their connection? Not entirely, of course, but definitely to some extent. And as we know from this diamond scene, the money wouldn’t have been enough to cover their losses either.
Bertrand strikes me as a very capable, rational man, so he would have thought about this, too. But he hadn’t, or maybe he did but didn’t care, which leads me to believe that he was feeling very, very desperate when he sold those pictures. I actually feel bad for him; that he was driven to do something as low as browsing his brother’s phone and selling out his friends and his very own king, something that he knows would have made his father ashamed… well, it’s got to be something big.
