the little mermaid was always my favorite

haunting-song  asked:

Okay, finally got the courage to send in this request! How about Zen as a merman meeting a human MC? It can be like The Little Mermaid if you like; both he and Ariel share that same inner strength and determination, a big reason as to why they are two of my all-time favorite characters. <3 Or it can be a plot of your own design. The idea of Zen as a merman sounds really awesome because he *does* look like he can come from another world, and I'm sure he'd look great as one. c: Thank you so much!

When I tried writing this, Zen always somehow ended up being a siren rather than a merman and took lots of rewriting trying to figure out a plot to use, but I finally did it! Sorry for the wait, and thank you for requesting! I really want to make a full multi-part/chaptered fic with this because I had a much deeper plot in mind, buuuut for now I’ll leave it like this. (I’ll post my fic ideas for what the deeper plot of it is later tho)

There was something about the land that seemed so fascinating to a sea-dweller like Zen. Perhaps because it was a world he doesn’t know much of and wanted to learn more, or perhaps it was out of mere curiosity. Humans were such strange creatures, and though they were interesting, they were quite dangerous towards merpeople.

What was it about immortality that made humans act so violent and greedy to get a chance at it? It wasn’t like the humans knew if those legends about merpeople were true. …Well, the legends of merpeople and their link towards immortality weren’t too far off. Zen himself has never come into contact with a human, but he has heard stories from others, so despite his curiosity towards the complicated creatures, he did maintain a safe distance from them.

But even so, Zen wanted to see what the land was like. The merman couldn’t leave the sea for too long, but he did enjoy spending some time on the shore in the middle of the night with no humans in sight as his eyes scanned around the area and starry sky.

It was just like any regular night with him spending some idle time on the shore when Zen picked up on some footsteps in the sand. He glanced around and saw a human from afar. You were walking along the shore, unable to find some sleep and decided to go for a quick stroll. Zen immediately retreated back to the water, but he couldn’t help but be curious. This was his first time seeing a human after all, so he stayed behind, still keeping a safe distance away and hidden away by the night.

You sit down onto the sand with a heavy sigh, wiggling your toes in the grains that offer ticklish sensations. The corners of your lips mar themselves into a frown as you recall something unpleasant from the day, and out of frustration, you pick up a small stone and throw it into the water. You were expecting to hear a splash, but all you heard instead was a voice.

Your eyes widen, and you immediately stand up in a panic. “Who’s there?!”

Zen was about to leave at risk of getting caught, but he can see the fear in your expression, and he bites his lip. Human or not, he wasn’t one to leave a woman in distress. Trying to push away the thoughts of what the consequences might be, the merman makes himself known to you. “You should be careful throwing stuff into the ocean. People live here.”

Confusion etches its way onto your features as this gorgeous young man is revealed in the moonlight, his silvery white hair catching the moonlight in all the right ways. “Who…are you?” You ask slowly before your eyes look into the water and realize that this young man doesn’t have any legs but a— “Are you a merman?!” You gasp in awe and wonder.

There’s a small moment of silence before Zen asks, “…Are you not going to try to catch me to eat me?”

“What? Why would I do that?” Your face scrunches up in disgust at the idea.

“Isn’t that what you humans do with us? Eating the flesh of us merfolk to gain immortality?”

You furrow your eyebrows together. “I have no idea what kind of humans you’ve been hanging out with, but I’m not like that.” Suddenly realizing how rude you were being, you quickly introduce yourself, offering your name to the merman.

“I’m Zen,” the male introduces himself to you after coming to the decision that you seem friendly enough.

After that, it sort of became a natural occurrence for the two of you to meet up on the shore in the middle of the night. Both you and Zen engaged in conversations about each other’s world, interested in the way the other lived; however, the conversations started to shift at some point. It was no longer about the other’s world as a whole, but about the other as a person. The topics of discussion changed from the foods people eat to your favourite type of food, or places that exist to places you’ve been to and would want to visit.

“You know,” Zen starts one day, “we’re always talking here on the shore. How about we go a bit further into the water?”

You hesitate for a moment. “I-I would like to, but…the thing is…I don’t know how to swim. I-I’m afraid of drowning, to be honest, especially at night with nobody else around.”

“I’m here,” Zen reminds you with a reassuring smile. “I’ll keep you safe.”

You don’t know why, but you end up trusting the merman. You give a slow nod of your head. “Okay then, tomorrow night. I’ll be sure to wear my swimsuit.”

As promised, the next night, you had worn a swimsuit underneath your usual attire. Warmth crawled up to Zen’s cheeks as he watched you strip down to it before you take a few steps into the water. “It’s cold!” You complain with a shiver, but you don’t back out. You’ve already gone this far.

You continue walking, the seafloor getting deeper and deeper, and a sense of anxiety fills you the more your body is submerged in water. You’re on your tiptoes by now, and Zen immediately goes to your side, grabbing hold of your hand. “It’s okay, I’m right here. Just relax…”

You nod, putting your faith and trust in the merman, and he guides you a bit further into the water, squeezing your hand and not once letting go. You kick your legs around for a bit, trying to figure out what kind of movement would help you stay afloat, and after a while, you finally get used to it. Even after becoming more comfortable, however, Zen doesn’t let go of you, tilting his head to the side as he stares at you.

“This is the closest we’ve ever been,” the merman notes with a small hum, the sound ringing pleasantly in your ear.

You find yourself blushing at the realization, and offer an awkward sound of acknowledgement, finding yourself unable to trust your own voice at the moment. At your silence, Zen decides to continue, “It’s a bit strange… I didn’t expect humans to be so…soft to the touch. It’s nice, and I quite like it.”

Almost as though to prove his point, Zen trails a finger along the length of your arm, starting from the wrist all the way to your shoulders. Your heart leaps in your chest when he doesn’t stop, dragging all of his fingers now along the column of your neck to your jawline before cupping your cheek. Your heart hammers against you when Zen locks his gaze with yours.

There’s something about the way he looks at you that makes your cheeks flush. Somehow, it seems like your senses are heightened, and you can take note of every single detail. Your forms reflected on the surface of the water. The moonlight illuminating the pair of you. The subtle sounds of moving water. The warmth of Zen’s body against yours. The way his shaky breaths mix with yours in the small space between your lips as Zen leans closer towards you, tilting his head to the side which allows some of his hair around his shoulders to fall off.

You close your eyes in anticipation, and you feel Zen’s lips on the corner of your mouth. He lingers there for a moment before suddenly leaning back, almost as though just realizing what he was doing.

“I-I’m sorry, I don’t know why I—I-I just felt like…” The merman stumbles with his words before trailing off, the redness of his cheeks plainly obvious even in the darkness of the night.

You squeeze Zen’s hand, prompting him to look up at you. “I think I understand…”

that ask i got the other night REALLY inspired me to make another gif!!

i did this one pretty quickly, so i went back and added some smaller details to try some things out. this scene is one of my favorite parts of the movie to be honest, gives their romance a little dimension yknow

the colors i chose for ariel were based off of a lovely fanart that someone did after seeing one of my other edits, it really excited me so i always meant to do a human ariel edit so i could use it!

Please be okay

Request: Could you make an imagine where the reader gets stabbed and peter pan freaks out. Lots of angst and fluff pleaaseeee!

Pairing: Peter Pan x Reader

(Y/N’s) Pov:

Today hadn’t been the best day, for starters I slept in too late and missed breakfast and training, on my evening run I tripped and fell in mud, getting laughed at when I came back to camp all muddy with my hair looking a mess. I even got into a fight with Peter for spending to much time with my friend Felix. Hes so over protective, he always has to make sure he knows exactly where I are.

That’s why I crept away during training the next morning to get away from everyone. I know my way around so its not like I’d get lost or anything. I go to my favorite spot, a little clearing next to mermaid lagoon. Its close enough where I can see them but far enough away so they don’t know i’m there.

I know its a risk coming here, since its quite far from camp, but its so peaceful. Three mermaids swim to the surface and perch themselves on their rock. Then they begin to sing. But the song isn’t their normal playful song, its their feeding song, only sung to attract men when their near.

I hear bushes rustling and two pirates come out, instantly going towards the mermaids. I know where this is going, they always leave a mess…

The suns just about to set when I can faintly hear the lost boys yelling and peters music. I guess today wasn’t so bad, so i’ll join them and maybe dance with peter if he wants.

“And whats a pretty lass like you doing out here all by her self?” I hear a raspy voice come from behind me. I turn around and three of hooks pirate goons are there, with yellow toothed smiles and swords pointed at me.

“Here to kidnap me as usual i presume? You know peter will just save me and kill all of you.” I forgot the pirates were still here, they usually don’t stay long, but when they do its never fun. Sometimes I remember to bring my sword with me so if i get into this kind of situation i can easily take them, their usually drunk anyway. That’s why their other shipmates fell for the mermaids trap so easily. But I was to mad at peter to remember to grab it.

“Not this time lass, captain gave us new orders.” One of the pirates says, but its as if he almost doesn’t want to. was there a hint of regret on his face?

I’m expecting them to just knock me out, or try to grab me, but they just stand there waiting. Waiting for what? My heart stops when I realize their looking at someone behind me, but it was already to late.

A sharp pain goes through my stomach, and a small cry escapes my lips. I look down and see a blade covered in my own blood, sticking out of my stomach. An arm wraps around my chest to keep me from falling, while the other hand holds the blade in place. A face brushes up against my ear.

“Its nothing personal love, I just don’t know any other way to make that bloody demon suffer.” I’d know that voice anywhere, its hook. I knew he hated peter, but I never thought he’d stoop this low.

I cant even talk, blood pours from my mouth whenever I try. Hook realizes this and swiftly pulls the sword out of me. I make a week whimpering sound and fall into his arms and cover my wound with my hands, tears run down my face as I give him look of pain and sorrow. He looks down at me with guilt and sadness, then gently lifts me up and lays me down on a large rock. I’m expecting him to end my suffering, but he just lets a single tear fall, then turns and leaves with the rest of his shipmates. Leaving me to eventually bleed out and die. I’m to week to even move, and my eyes are just begging to close, but if I give in I probably wont be able to open them again.

(Peter’s) Pov:

I watch as the boys dance around the fire and cant help but feel bad about the fight I had with Y/N, But I just get so protective of her, I don’t want anyone taking her from me. I probably should’ve went to get her by know, but she probably wants her alone time. I can apologize when she gets back.

But when I feel a sinking feeling in my stomach, I know somethings wrong. My thoughts instantly go to Y/N and think of the worst things that could’ve happened to her. I don’t even tell the boys I’m leaving and immediately fly off the way she went.

“Y/N!……Y/N!……Please answer love….” I whisper the last part to myself. My hearts beating out of my chest thinking the worst. Drops of red on the ground catch my ear and I land next to them. I touch a drop with my finger and examine it closer……..blood.

I look right and then left, and there’s Y/N, on a rock, laying in her own blood. I race over to her, pulling her into my arms and putting my ear to her chest. Her heart is barely beating, and her breathing is getting slower by the minute.

“Its going to be ok love, just keep that heart beating.”

There’s only one way I can save her, but its on the other side of the island.

The healing waterfall…

(Y/N’s) Pov:

I slowly open my eyes, expecting to be in the underworld, or some other place. Not my bedroom though. I slowly sit up and look around, until my eyes land on peter. Hes sleeping next to me with his arm around my waist. He looks so tired. He must have found me and flown him and myself all the way to the healing waterfall.

I lay back down and cuddle into his side, listening to the soothing sound of his heartbeat. He shifts slightly and pulls me into him tighter, then softly kisses my head. I whisper a quiet “Thank you” and softly kiss his lips.

He gives me a loving smile, and caresses my cheek. “Your my world Y/N, I promise I’ll never let anything bad happen to you again. As land as your with me, you’ll never have to hurt like that again.I would give up anything for you, I love you to much to let you go.”

I never thought I could feel loved as much as I do now, and by Peter Pan of all people. But to have someone love you so much that they would give up anything for you, is the most amazing feeling in the world.

Before she falls asleep in my arms, she whispers the words I’ve waited to hear her say since she took my hand and left her world behind.

“I love you too.”

I guess even villains can have their happily ever after too.

So...I know everyone say that Percy's favorite Disney movie is Finding Nemo or The little Mermaid... Is that true? 'Cause I always thought that maybe it could be Hercules. And Nico... Who is your favorite princess? SFTG

Percy: I love Finding Nemo, and Hercules is a good movie (inaccurate, but good) But my favorite kind of movies are action. I want to see stuff blown up!

Nico: Um, I like princesses who punch the bad guys in the face.

Here’s a little FYI about the new characters and their voice actresses fairytales!

It’s always important to appreciate the hard work the creators do to bring us (the fans) a wonderlandiful story and spellbinding characters, right? But it is also fairy important, at least in my book, to appreciate the people who bring voice to our favorite characters! We know who voice our veterans, but would you like to know who voiced/will voice the five new girls introduced in the Ever After High: Dragon Games movie? Hex out the list below:

- Meeshell Mermaid™ (Daughter of Little Mermaid) is voiced by Rena Strober, the same actress that’s been voicing Cerise Hood™ since the start!

- Ramona Badwolf™ (Daughter of The Big Bad Wolf) is voiced by none other than Cindy Robinson, who also voices Madeline Hatter™, Humphrey Dumpty™ and Snow White! How royally awesome is that?

- Nina Thumbell™ (Daughter of Thumbellina) is voiced by Debi Derryberry, who you might know as the voice actress of Monster High’s fairy own Draculaura™!

- Jillian Beanstalk™ (Daughter of Jack) is voiced by Julie Maddalena Kliewer, who also voices Blondie Lockes™ and Kitty’s mom, The Cheshire Cat!

- Farrah Goodfairy™ (Daughter of The Fairy Godmother) is voiced by Tish Hicks, a new voice actress to the team - Welcome fairytale!

- Justine Dancer™ (Daughter of The 12th Dancing Princess) is voiced by newcomer Bresha Webb! Fairy happy to have her as part of the team!

Isn’t it interesting to learn where the voices of our favorite characters come from? We will get to hear them even more in the upcoming webisodes! #EverAfterHigh #EAH

I'm so glad I saw that

Beauty and the Beast has always been one of my favorite Disney movies besides the Little Mermaid. This took me back to my childhood and made it tens times better. I loved the singing, the acting, and most of all the way it embraced the original but made it its own movie. I couldn’t stop smiling the entire time I watched it. Seeing a piece of my childhood be brought back to life in the most wonderful way possible is something I will always treasure. Now long until it’s out on DVD so I can just watch it again and again? Because I need to watch the scene with Evermore until the day I die.

“As a kid, I was always obsessed with movies like Mulan, Aladdin, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and Peter Pan, but I never took an interest in other Disney movies such as The Sword in the Stone, Oliver and Company, The Fox and the Hound or Brother Bear. I don’t know why I didn’t like them when I was younger, maybe because none of those movies had any princesses in them but now that I am older, honestly those movies are one of my favorites now. Especially The Sword in the Stone!”

The Little Mermaid: The Movies

Since I am a huge fan of the tale and have seen so many versions of it shown theatrically, I thought I might share some thoughts on these select movie versions of Hans Christian Andersen’s masterful tale of The Little Mermaid. Keep in mind, these are just personal opinions of a crazy fan of the original tale. *List goes from left to right beginning at the top right corner of the pictures. Click on the title to see the film/see the film’s trailer.

1. Malá Morská Víla (1976) ★★★★★
Probably my most favorite of the film adaptions, this Czech release closely follows Andersen’s tale while also adding a few very enjoyable twists. With beautiful music, lovely scenery, and a good dosage of humor, this movie is incredible and always brings me to tears in the end. My only complaint is the lack of fins on the mer-characters.

2. The Little Mermaid (1975) ★★★★★
This is one of the best cartoon adaption of the story there is! This sweet 1.5 hour anime cartoon is both well done and charming, with lovely music, fun animation, and a great following of the original tale. I give this film five stars not only because it brings tears at the end, but because it does so well with character development and has great additions to an already great story.

3.  Saban’s Adventures of The Little Mermaid (1991) ★★★
The first episode of this TV series is based on Anderson’s original tale, but if that was the only episode there was, this cartoon would get much less in the stars department. The original tale is done tastefully and with great adventure, but the series itself is where the magic continues. I love the mermaid, Marina, and though her prince Justin is a bit of a fail sometimes, this really is a great series. I’d recommend it to anyone.

4.  Disney’s The Little Mermaid (1989) ★★★½
People are probably going to hate me for only giving this flick three and a half stars, but hear me out! I fell in love with this movie’s soundtrack before the movie itself and once seeing the movie, I held onto $20 for two years before it was rereleased and I could buy it. Why only three and a half stars then, you ask? Probably because the magic wore off. I still love this movie and enjoy watching it (oh the music!!!), but I think what bothers me most is how far it is removed from the original tale. Also, some of the characters get a bit annoying after a while (I can hardly stand to watch the Les Poissons portion anymore).  All-in-all though, this is a great movie, I just have found other film adaptions that are better.

5.  Shelly Duvall’s Faiere Tale Theatre: The Little Mermaid (1987) ★★★
Oh where to start? As lighthearted as the rest of her Fairie Tale theater stories, Shelly Duvall’s Little Mermaid is no different. Lighthearted with a few jokes only parents would understand, this is an enjoyable retelling with some very memorable parts (oh, the piano room scene!), but overall, it draws a little too far from the original tale for it to reach too far in the star category.

6.  Shirley Temple’s Storybook: The Little Mermaid (1961) ★★★
What can I say? This film version is adorable! Well done for 1961, this film takes almost a theatrical play sort of format as is the case in all of Shirley Temple’s Storybook movies. Though I am not a fan of her look in this film, I can’t help but adore the adorable mermaid Shirley portrays. Not all of the acting in this film is great, but I do enjoy a good mermaid film and this is one. Definitely worth a see!

7.  Rusalochka (1976) ★★★★★
I love this film! Though it is very removed from the original tale, it is so different to the point of a masterpiece!  The film twists are fantastic, the music is fun, the fashion is breathtaking, and goodness! Got to love all of the plot twists. A warning for young audiences, however, as there is very brief nudity during the mermaid transformation scene.

8.  Reader’s Digest’s The Little Mermaid (1975) ★★★★★
The mermaid is cute, the music is fun, and this follows the original story almost flawlessly. If you’re looking for a narrated film version with very few flaws, check this version out!

9.  Rusalochka (1968) ★★★★
This film was very well done and quite haunting. I think part of it has to do with the dark colors and fluid character design. Though not easily found in English, I give this film four stars for its closeness to the original tale and its haunting qualities.

10. HBO Family: The Little Mermaid (1997)
I was not a huge fan of this re-telling of the tale. I think part of it had to do with their twists to the original tale, but I think most of all, I just did not like the mermaid’s tail design. It was a creative twist, but it was distracting.

11. Magical Memories: The Little Mermaid (2011) ★★
This movie was well done with some cute humor, but it just wasn’t one of my most favorite, or one of the most memorable film retellings of this amazing original story.

12. The Little Mermaid (2007)
Heavily anchored with a non-discreet “don’t pollute” under message and an irritating song, I’ll have to say this version is only good if you want some quick entertainment for a few laughs.

13. Hans Christian Andersen: My Life as a Fairytale (2001) ★★★★
Though this movie isn’t entirely the Little Mermaid (thus the 4 stars), it is amazing!! Though not all of the acting is great, the story, and the mermaid portion itself is so well done and so masterfully woven into the overall plot. I would definitely recommend this movie.

14. Golden Films: The Little Mermaid (2002) ★★
This version is hilarious. Though it’s not my most favorite version, it is one of the best low-budget options and totally worth a view… or more!

15. Starlight Video: The Little Mermaid (2005) ★½
I’ve only watched this version once, and it was not one of my most favorites. Definitely not as bad as the 2007 cartoon release, but just not that memorable.
