Laura Dern in Talks to Join Kristen Stewart in ‘JT Leroy’ Biopic

Justin Kelly is directing the film that recounts the true story of the infamous literary hoax.

Laura Dern is preparing for a literary hoax.

The Big Little Lies actress is in talks to join Kristen Stewart in JT Leroy, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Justin Kelly is directing from a script he wrote, based on the life rights of Savannah Knoop and her book Girl Boy Girl: How I Became JT LeRoy.

The film will recount the true story of the JT LeRoy hoax, in which a female writer pretended to be a man who identifies as transgender, tricking the rich and famous in Hollywood, the fashion world and elite literary circles. After six years, The New York Times revealed that Leroy was just a literary persona.

Dern is in talks for the role of Albert, who participated in the hoax as a friend named Speedie.

The actress, who is featured in Fox Searchlight’s comedy Wilson, adds JT Leroy to her upcoming slate, including Disney’s follow-up Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Jennifer Fox’s drama The Tale. Dern is repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.

Interview: Savannah

Today we’re joined by Savannah. Savannah is a phenomenal writer from Jamaica. They writes a number of things, including short fiction and poetry. Savannah is incredibly enthusiastic about writing and it really shows. They create gorgeous pictures with their words, as you’ll soon read. My thanks to them for taking the time to participate in this interview.

WORK

Please, tell us about your art.

I’m a writer, by hobby—I haven’t published anything yet (unless you count the two or so letters to the editor I’ve submitted to a local newspaper). I enjoy writing critical pieces, fiction, and occasionally poetry. I write about other people a lot, especially my poetry. My life isn’t that exciting (I think), so I use my writing to tell other people’s stories. I don’t think much about form and structure with my poetry. I usually start writing and I won’t stop until a poem is done. It’s somewhat similar with writing fiction: I’ll feel like I have something to write, start immediately, and then go until I feel tired or I have to stop. Sometimes when I stop I can get back into the groove after I’ve rested, but other times I’ll never be able to pick it up again. I always want to give my stories away to other people who would be willing to finish them (I think of unfinished stories as ghosts waiting to transcend), but I don’t always trust that they are well-written enough to pass on.

What inspires you?

Other people, mostly. I’ll be walking in town, or driving on the street, or standing in line somewhere, and I’ll see someone just going about their business and think ‘I wonder what that person’s life is like’ and then immediately I’ll want to write something about them. Sometimes I’ll even write something out at the same time on whatever loose paper I have available. Those are the most fulfilling times.

What got you interested in your field?  Have you always wanted to be an artist?

I was always a bookish child (I used to get books instead of toys), and I developed a love for literature. I wanted to be a writer from an early age, and remember choosing high school subjects based on what I could use to get into a writing school. I studied Literature when I went to university, but I sometimes feel like I shouldn’t have — I feel bogged down a lot with the business of poetic structure and other literary terminologies. When I ignore all that and write for the sake of writing, I feel more satisfied.

Do you have any kind of special or unique signature, symbol, or feature you include in your work that you’d be willing to reveal?

I prefer to write in parts; usually three parts. Most of my poetry gets written this way. Each poem can stand alone, but trios make me feel like it’s a more complete work: Beginning, middle, end. I incorporate this into my fiction too, but much more loosely.

What advice would you give young aspiring artists?

Don’t be too concerned about people liking your work. Your work is worthwhile because it’s your work, not because other people like it.

ASEXUALITY

Where on the spectrum do you identify?

I identify as asexual.

Have you encountered any kind of ace prejudice or ignorance in your field?  If so, how do you handle it?

Not so much prejudice, but there has been a lot of ignorance. When I was in university I wrote a prose fiction piece for a creative writing peer review class and a few of my classmates marked me down for the lack of romantic elements in the story. I have also been criticized by a few friends for not writing about romance or sex. They’ve meant well, but it’s discouraging to hear. In the past I’ve incorporated romance and sex into my writing to please people, but I found that it made me dislike my own work, and so I decided to stop. Generally, I feel like there is too much focus on sexuality as a source of passion in literature, rather than other things like joy and pain and growth. It’s hard to find asexual, aromantic, or non love-centric YA and adult literature, and that’s deeply disappointing.

What’s the most common misconception about asexuality that you’ve encountered?

“You just haven’t found the right person yet.” Every time I hear this I mentally unfriend the person who says it to me because it’s just downright rude to assume you know someone better than they know themself. I used to try to convince people like that that someone’s asexuality is not in/validated by that person’s relationship with others, but these days I just sigh loudly and roll one eye like in the memes I’ve seen on Tumblr.

What advice would you give to any asexual individuals out there who might be struggling with their orientation?

There’s a whole world of other asexual people out there that you haven’t met yet who are rooting for you while you discover yourself. Really. We’re out here thinking about you and we want you to know that you’re accepted and you’re cared for. Even if you aren’t yet sure about yourself. Take your time, invent yourself, and keep on keeping on, you awesome ace being!

Finally, where can people find out more about your work?

Presently, I run a Tumblog where I’ve been uploading my literature every now and again: http://acomplexmachine.tumblr.com/ and an Instagram account dedicated strictly to my poems: https://www.instagram.com/acomplexmachine/

Thank you, Savannah, for participating in this interview and this project. It’s very much appreciated.

Theme Songs

I was literally listening to music while writing random headcanons and thought “hey, this matches this character” and it got out of control really quickly

  • Genji - (okay, when he was younger it was “For Your Entertainment” by Adam Lambert) currently it’s “Heathens” by Twenty One Pilots
  • McCree - “Cowboy Casanova” by Carrie Underwood (works better for young McCree though) or “Get Off of my Back” by Bryan Adams (bonus: literally every The Civil Wars song can work for him somehow)
  • Pharah - “The Phoenix” by Fallout Boy or “Holding Out for a Hero” (specifically the cover with Jonathan Young  and Savannah Stuckmayer)
  • Reaper - “Emperor’s New Clothes” by Panic! at the Disco (or, if you’re feeling really edgy, literally every Evanescence song ever…especially “Bring Me to Life”)
  • Soldier 76 - “O Death” by Amy Van Roekel
  • Tracer - “Time Warp” by Richard O'Brien
  • Bastion - “Colors of the Wind”
  • Hanzo - “While my Guitar Gently Weeps” by The Beatles (though, I’m not lying, my mind when to the Regina Spektor cover)
  • Junkrat - “Joker and The Thief” by Wolfmother or “Told Ya So” by Get Scared (also “Firework” by Katy Perry)
  • Mei - “Let it Go” from Frozen… no irony or joke or anything
  • Torbjörn - “Light Em Up(My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark)” by Fallout Boy (I just picture this as an awesome work song for him)
  • Widowmaker - “You Don’t Own Me” or “Miss Jackson” by Panic! at the Disco (bonus if you’re feeling some angst: “Ballad of Mona Lisa” by Panic! at the Disco and “My Immortal” by Evanescence)
  • D. Va - “Boombayah” by BlackPink
  • Reinhardt - “True Survivor” by David Hasselhoff
  • Roadhog - “Joker and The Thief” by Wolfmother (works for him and Junkrat)
  • Winston - “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons (though this as more of a post-Recall type theme for him)
  • Zarya - “Lullaby” by Aida Nikolaychuk or “Doa” Aimee Blackschleger
  • Ana - “You’ll be in my Heart” by Phil Collins (Ana and little Fareeha are what made me think this)
  • Lúcio - literally all of his own music is the embodiment of Lúcio (and plenty of Skrillex)
  • Mercy - “Angel With a Shotgun” by The Cab
  • Symmetra - “Run the World (Girls)” by Beyoncé
  • Zenyatta - either “Here Comes a Thought” from Steven Universe

Bonus: “Crossfire” by Stephen works as a general theme for all the heroes

Finale - Space Jam

“Let’s get lost in our world,

Start our own world.

Start our own world,

Lost in our world,

Start our own world."

Savannah

I couldn’t really sleep.

There was always an excitement, no matter how old you were turning, involved in a birthday.

Today, especially, since I was officially moving out, had even more excitement behind it. It really did feel like I was turning a brand new chapter in my life and I was happy it came at a time like this.

I needed change.

I think sometimes we hold on to pain
because happiness is painful too let go of,
too painful to think back on.
Pain becomes a home we hide in.

Pokémon in our Biomes pt. 3

I’ve recently decided to make a series of posts with hypothetical thinking and analyzing of what Pokémon species could potentially be found in the world’s biomes. Not at all relative to the games, I will be focusing primarily of the elements, design, and relativity to real life flora and fauna of Pokémon to depict where different species would roam on our big blue marble.

This is my third Pokémon in our biomes post, and this time I will be focusing on savannas. I will be including grassland and forest savannas, and will be basing my post mainly around the African Savannas. Growing up as a kid, I never really found African animals all that interesting. Lions, hyenas, elephants, for some reason large mammals just never really appealed to me. BUT! For the sake of Pokémon and biology, I find the concept intriguing as there is a diverse array of life in savannas, all evolved to adapt for different things.

If you’ve ever seen The Lion King, you know what to think of when you hear African Savanna. Not a lot of trees, open grasslands, fairly dry. Potentially a harsh environment but as we all know, animals and people thrive in these conditions just like any other.

Let’s get started!

Owning a horse means spending as much time with them as is possible. Owning a young horse means spending that, plus some time that isn’t really possible but you make it work anyway.

Like waking up at 5am to face frosted, foggy sunrises to make sure her stall is clean and her daily training session gets done even though you have out of state doctors appointments all day today that will keep you away from the barn.

Maybe the reason I’ve never gotten anything I’ve wanted is because I told myself every time that I wasn’t good enough and that I didn’t deserve it.

Well, those days are behind me as of now.

I always wonder about you,
and if I ever cross your mind
because even after all this time
you still cross mine.
Years have passed,
and there are some pieces of me
that I must of left with you
because parts of me are lost
and when I retraced my steps
you’re what they led back to.

hey guys i know im not like very active in general but im sorry for being so inactive as of late, ive been so busy doing our schools play, we’re doing noises off (i’m lloyd) and its going great but it really cuts into my free time

i love all of you, and im sorry if i reblog some like out dated posts or something, i havent been able to keep up to date with the new jokes and stuff

Today, tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, next decade, next century… Until the world stops spinning and it ends for good, there will always be a place in this world for hatred, anger, violence, racism, unfairness, murder, slander… but I believe there is an EVEN bigger place in this world for love, joy, warm embraces, equality, justice and LIFE.
Which ever side of the spectrum you choose to spend your time here investing in, the important thing to remember is that you can not get one with the other.

We Have Plenty
A young farmer boy living in a small village has his quiet existence interrupted by a locust attack.

The official We Have Plenty Kickstarter is now LIVE!

A young farmer boy living in a small village has his quiet existence interrupted by a locust attack.

A combination of careful research and spirited storytelling have given birth to We Have Plenty. This animation highlights the importance of animal diversity to humans, from tiny insects to larger mammals as well as the ones in between. It is set in South Asia and draws inspiration from Yunnan Province and other places such as Vietnam and India. This short shows that even in times of crisis, the human spirit is inextinguishable. Bringing across the message of animal conservation in an accessible and innovative way to new audiences, we catch glimpses into this strange world as he goes about his daily life in a place that has faced local extinction.

This film is a collaboration between students at Rhode Island School of Design and the Savannah College of Art and Design. We are grateful for our friends’ help in making it to the production stage. We truly and wholeheartedly believe our film can spread the message of animal conservation through the experience of a little boy - our protagonist and a representation of the next generation of people. If you believe in our vision, please help us to make it happen! Share with those who you believe would share our vision!

Thank you <3

The Dark One That no one talks about

To anyone wondering about this incarnation of The Dark One…

Gordon’s story is quite tragic.  His real name was Pumba.  He was not actually a boar but a Warthog.  The Dark One Curse distorted that.

You see after the death of his Meerkat life partner, Timon, he just couldn’t cope.

He was lonely and found that his aroma lacked a certain appeal.  He could clear the Savannah after every meal.   He was a sensitive soul though he seemed thick skinned.  And it hurt that his friends never stood down wind.   And, oh, the shame!  He was ashamed.  He thought of changing his name…

Anyway, Pumba decided to go skewer a Dark One on his tusk and get revenge on the world that wronged him by taking away his beloved Timon.  However as he impaled The Dark One with his tusk the Dark One either accidentally (or by Pumba’s rage) fell onto the kriss dagger he carried.   Though the name Pumba was on the dagger now the angry Dark One Warthog followed through on changing his name and took on the name Gordon.

“They call me MISTER PIG!”

He became obsessed with raising Meerkats from the dead.  It was during such an experiment where he created a zombified Timon that the desperate, starving, and otherwise heroic Zoso snuck up on him and killed Gordon.  Zoso had roasted Warthog that night as The Dark One.

…Is that not how Zoso became The Dark One?

I think I might need more sleep…

She's your daughter!

Esme had been raising her three year old daughter after leaving her boyfriend in the dead of the night when she was pregnant. She didn’t want to ruin his life, his career with a child. So she took it upon herself to raise Savannah on her own back in Ireland. Savannah was the most beautiful thing Esme had laid her eyes on, the perfect mix of Zayn and her. But every time she looked into her daughters eyes she felt as if she could feel Zayn looking back at her.

It had taken a lot of courage to move back to London, but the city was her favorite and she wanted to expose the three year old to as many things as possible. Sitting down at a cafe, she sipped on some coffee as the little girl played with her toys. Esme knew it would only be a matter of time before or if she ran into Zayn. How would she explain why she didn’t bother to call, or write or even send pictures of their child. It wasn’t like Savannah was kept out of the loop to knowing who her father was, hell he was every where.

Letting out a sigh she flipped through a magazine mindlessly as Savannah had gotten out of her seat and threw the ball she had been playing with down the street and ran after it. Looking up, Esme panicked noticing her child wasn’t sitting next to her anymore. “Sav?” She said standing up and looking around. “Savannah!” She yelled turning around to see the tot running down the sidewalk.

Lexia would be more diligent this time around. Max knew enough, enough that it wouldn’t harm for her to see the other half of her life. To get comfortable with the other girls she spent nearly a majority of her time with now. And a low key hang out with them at the house would be a good environment. She hoped. Tugging Max out the door and into the car she borrowed from Savannah’s garage, she couldn’t help but be excited for this. “Nothing wild or crazy. Just hanging out and probably drinking and watching tv.” She shrugged as she drove out to the more luxurious estates.

I looked at myself in the mirror this morning and saw that my eyes had grown dull and dim. I examined my entire body and realized there was a vast darkness about me. I rarely look at myself this long but this time I couldn’t look away. It was almost as if I had unfamiliar eyes and a strangers body. I must have been trying to figure out who this person was in the reflection staring at me.
