Nod woke up and blinked at the ceiling. He didn’t recognize the ceiling or the bed, and he sat up slowly, preparing for the spike of hangover. “Just how much did I drink last night?” he grumbled to himself, looking next to him.
He didn’t recognize the girl next to him, but that wasn’t new. It had been a while since he’d gone home with a Jinn girl—well, a Leafwoman, never…he didn’t sleep with Leafmen as a general rule. Got too messy too quick.
He’d definitely had too much to drink last night, if he hadn’t even had the mind not to go home with a comrade. Yet he didn’t have a hangover…that was weird.
He put it out of his head and went to find his pants.
The shift of the bed pulled Tess out of the shallow end of sleep. She rolled onto her side, blinking at the blurry shape of Nod’s back. “Mornin’,” she said through a yawn, stretching before propping herself up on her elbows. “You heading out? I’ll pay if you grab breakfast.” She knew he didn’t have training, or else he would have been up an hour or two earlier.
