the interviewer and i are the same person

(long post) OKAY SO HERES WHAT HAPPENED AT THE ELLEN SHOW TODAY:

so my mom and i drove down to LA yesterday evening to get a room near ellen’s studio so we could go there early in the morning to try and get “day of” tickets for the show. once we checked into our room that night, we ran down to the studio to see where we should go in the morning and we met this security guard who literally told us that we’d have a “99.9%” chance of getting into the show (lmao fuck you asshole) and i lost all hope pretty much and i almost cried but my mom was really supportive and said we should just get up early the next day and go to the studio anyway. SO we did and there were maybe like 10 people there already at 6 in the morning and slowly over the course of the next few hours, more and more people showed up and lined up behind us. at some point a lady came out and counted us all and said she’d have info for us at 11 so we waited, and wHILE WE FUCKING WAITED THESE BLACK SUVs STARTED PULLING UP INTO THE ENTRANCE FOR ELLEN AND THEY JUST SAT THERE SO WE ALL STARTED SCREAMING FAN CHANTS AND SINGING DNA but nothing really happened so we were like “was that rlly them orrr…” SO THEN we waited for a few more hours and at some point an ellen golf cart came out and the ladies counted us again and then a couple more hours passed anddddd a lady came out and quieted us and said “we’re trying to figure out what we can do for you guys. we’re gonna try to at least get you guys into the riff raff room so you can see them on the TV but not live” and everyone was very happy. about 30-40 minutes later they came out and asked who was over 18 and could prove it so everyone old enough did that and they were taken away and let into the ellen building first (they were let into the performance room to see BTS live) and the rest of us were let into the building but you had to be 15+ (you could tell some werent bc they got really sad). we all sat in a long hallway and i was at the front by the door leading to the riff raff room and i got to walk in first which was cool and i sat w my mom on a long couch bench thingy in this spot where if i looked through this little hallway thing i could see a crack where the lights from the stage were and i could see the back of some audience members. then BTS came onto the TVs in there and performed Mic Drop, then they went into her actual studio thing and got interviewed briefly (all the while, the security where we were kept glancing at each other and smiling at us and shit and then they told us to stand up and come close to this staircase) tHEN ELLEN GOT UP AND SAID SOMETHING LIKE “we have some other fans back there in the riff raff room” AND FUCKING BROUGHT THEM BACK THERE TO COME SEE US AND I WAS AT THE FRONT SO THEY WERE LEGIT LIKE TEN FEET AWAY??? AND THEY JUST SMILED AND WAVED A LOT AND THEY LOOK EXACTLY THE SAME IN PERSON LIKE,, JUST AS PERFECT ITS INSANE? AND IT WAS SO BRIEF BUT I WAS SOBBING. tHen they went back out and to the performance room again and they performed DNA and thats pretty much it! but i sobbed from the very beginning of Mic Drop bc their mics were playing on speakers in the room we were in too and it was just like WOW THEYRE SO CLOSE?? and i pretty much cried nonstop until we got on the freeway back home.

anonymous asked:

Hey there! :) I have read some of your comments and I am going to say straight ahead that I am an „anti“, (I dislike the word; I just think that H&L are not together.) Who knows what happened in the past, but do you really think there would never ever have been one single pic of them together? All this time? I also want to ask, why would H be a „shit boyfriend“? Sadly, I also stumbled over false info from Larrie blogs (Interview quotes that were false, faked tweets/IG pics etc.). 1)

2) I honestly do not say that to be provocative, but once I checked stuff I thought were true information myself, I did actually feel manipulated a bit. Please do not think I write this to be hateful/negative, I think sometimes it simply has to do with how a person views things/topics. (A Larrie would probably say the same about an anti, right?) Still it is not okay to bend the truth.

Hi! Sorry this took forever to get to, that was a crazy night for me.

First things first: I don’t consider you an anti. I really only consider people who run anti blogs, or who dedicate their whole Tumblr and fandom experience to being anti-larries to be true “antis.” You just see like someone who doesn’t think they’re together which is fine!

I’m gonna address some of the stuff you brought up.

1. pictures of them together: it doesn’t surprise me at all there are no pictures of them together in later years. They’re cultivating privacy which is something that’s clearly important to them and also very new. Furthermore I think there’s an embargo on pap shots of them. Lastly, I live in LA. People see celebrities all the time and you don’t take pictures because it’s fucking rude. People walk around dressed down and in sunglasses all the time, often times I’ll vaguely recognize someone but it won’t be until a little while later I’ll realize it was a celebrity. They could easily live the type of life where they just don’t get noticed. If they got noticed every day we’d get deeper pictures of both of them every day but we don’t? We only see what we’re supposed to see. They know how to disappear and thank god, they deserve that privacy!

2. manipulated evidence: yep, there’s a lot of it, and it’s on both sides. Sometimes it’s actively fake other times it’s just decontextualized. This is why you have to be a critical thinker and check your own sources and form your own opinions as an adult on the internet. I’m not a larrie because of what big bloggers have told me or what they say or post, but because I observed the evidence myself and concluded based on that. It’s fine to form a different conclusion but I don’t think it’s fair to say that the existence of manipulated evidence negates or colors the whole argument. Plus, confirmation bias is real and works on both sides, too!

Hope thats helpful!

Let’s Discuss: SOA - The Homeless Woman

so i think i’ve seen 3 different theories/perspectives on the homeless woman:

1. she is supposed to be the embodiment of Jesus

2. she’s Jax’s guardian angel

3. she’s Brooke Putner’s mother

i believe Kurt Sutter once said in an interview that she was supposed to be the embodiment of Jesus Christ, but then later in another interview said he wanted to leave it up to the audience to decide. (correct me if i’m wrong)

personally, i could see the whole guardian angel thing. she seemed to be everywhere Jax was - including when they went to Belfast and the comment she made to Gemma about Abel is another sign (for me) too.

however, i remember when i saw the picture of Brooke’s mom, i jumped a little and was like “omg. that’s the homeless woman. she’s still alive!”

yeah i know it’s possible that they just used the same actress, but idk i feel like Kurt is very methodical and everything he does is for a reason. so it seems odd to me (if they did use the same actress) that he would do this - as it is so noticeable.

but if i’m being honest , i haven’t looked into this very much. so what do you guys think? do you believe one of the theories listed above? do you have your own?

let’s discuss 💀💙

Joe Biden endorsing Same-Sex Marriage on “Meet the Press”, May 6 2012

  • In an interview with David Gregory, Joe Biden said “The good news is that as more and more Americans come to understand what this is all about is a simple proposition. Who do you love? Who do you love and will you be loyal to the person you love? And that’s what people are finding out what all marriages at their root are about. Whether they are marriages of lesbians or gay men or heterosexuals. […] I am absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying men, women marrying women and heterosexual men and women marrying are entitled to the same exact rights. All the civil rights, all the civil liberties. And quite frankly I don’t see much of a distinction beyond that. […] I think Will & Grace probably did more to educate the American public than almost anything anybody has done so far. People fear that is different and now they’re beginning to understand.
  • As Vice President, Joe Biden made history in 2012 by becoming the highest ranking American official to ever back same-sex marriage.
  • Three days later, on May 9, Barack Obama became the first sitting president to say he believed that same-sex couples should be allowed to marry.
  • And three years later, in June 2015, when the United States Supreme Court ruled that state-level bans on same-sex marriage are unconstitutional
  • On June 21, 2017, Joe Biden said at the DNC LGBT Gala “I want to make something very clear tonight. Over the years, many of you have thanked me for stating the obvious on ‘Meet the Press’. Some of you credited me with taking a political risk. I mean what I’m saying from the bottom of my heart, I give you my word as a Biden. I took no political risk. I took no chance. Though I thought I acknowledged that I was doing something special. But, folks, I was just answering a question directly put to me in what I’ve known my whole life as a proposition that my dad taught me and that lies at the core of what made me a democrat, and that is: Everyone is entitled to be treated with dignity and respect.
sexuality.

You could almost say I’ve been studying Laurens behaviour from 2012-16 in correlation with her sexuality. I’m finding it extremely difficult to see anything ‘questionable’ about her sexuality, other than her interactions with Camila. When I watch these interviews with the girls, Lauren touching or looking at the girls is clearly platonic. There’s nothing that even hints at anything within her sexuality through her behaviour with the girls. But with Camila, there’s something different. Those longing stares weren’t platonic, how they touched and interacted with each other, wasn’t platonic. The only part of Laurens behaviour that showed us she was also attracted to girls, could be seen through moments with Camila. There’s no doubt in my mind that C played a huge part in Laurens self-acceptance. In an interview a couple months back, Lauren spoke about her sexuality at #beautyconNYC: (3:10-)

Lauren saying “what are you looking at when you see that” is blatantly obvious to me. Camila. The only factor fans could use at the time when/if doubting Lauren’s sexuality was Camila. The interactions and behaviours that the two shared, fuelled the speculation and presumptions about not only Lauren’s sexuality, but Camila’s also. She mentioned when she was younger, she “wasn’t ready to accept it about herself”. Presuming she was questioning her sexuality in her mid/late teens, the only person around her whom she publicly showed attraction to via these little secret looks and touches was Camila. She didn’t show anything intense towards the other 5H girls as she did with Camila. You could tell her interactions with Dinah, Ally and Normani were purely platonic and even from early X-Factor interviews, Lauren was always extremely protective and admiring of Camila. She spoke about “not being ready” to come out so at the time she must have already had existing doubts about her sexuality. I wonder which girl caused her questioning? Fans labelled her before she even had a chance to accept and fully understand it herself. So this coincides perfectly with Camila’s Facebook live, where she’s asked for her advise on an LGBT relationship where the other half isn’t ready “to come out”. (12:40-13:50)

Watch Lauren’s interview first then watch Camila’s. Compare their descriptions and understandings of ‘coming out’ and note that they are EXACTLY the same. C fills in the gaps L missed out in her interview and vice versa. It all falls in place like a little puzzle. Their words are spoken parallel to each others. Aren’t they basically both explaining how they personally reacted during that specific time? You can tell both are speaking from experience. C’s “I’ve learned that” was a massive slip up on her behalf.  I mean the only way you learn something is if you study it, or it happens to you. Camila must be super invested in the LGBT+ community to be able to articulate a response as intricate as the one she gave in this particular interview. There’s no doubt that each individual played some sort of role in the acceptance of each other’s sexualities, whatever those may be.

Remember though: “All you can do is just love them”.

I wonder who did the loving in this scenario? Was it Camila? Was she loving Lauren as they both finally understood and accepted their feelings towards one and other? Is C’s Hurting the struggle in which she/Lauren were unable to view their sexualities in a positive light after the pressure of shipping and criticism from labels and PR teams? Is the Healing her coming to terms with herself and starting to gradually share to fans a huge part of her that is ‘forbidden’? Is the Loving the final ‘fuck it’, C accepting and being proud of being who she is? I wonder how many more “she” pronouns will pop up in the album.

Everything is a process, sit tight.

☽ Bonding with a New Deck ☾

A deck is just that, a deck of cards. It’s the energy and bonding you do that makes it yours, and makes it work. Decks often have a vibe or energy when you get them, then it’s just time for the bonding. So, how do you do that?

Sleeping next to your deck: It sounds strange, but it really helps. Just like sleeping in the bed with someone can really strengthen and grow your relationship, same goes for your deck. I normally just pop mine in with my pillow case and sleep on ‘em for a few days.

Deck interview: Exactly what it sounds like. Yes or no questions work great, but open ended questions work best for me. Ask you deck a question, and pull a card. Good questions include

  • What kind of reading are you good for? (Love, money, school, personal, for clients, ect)
  • Are you going to do accurate readings?
  • Do you feel connected with me?
  • Are you feminine or masculine?
  • What’s your vibe?

Shuffle: Just shuffle. Think about stuff, meditate, and shuffle away.

Take your deck on a “date”: Just talk about stuff. Watch TV with it. Take it to a movie and then ask it if it liked the movie. See if you get along with it. You know, date stuff.

Do a reading for something you know about: For example, say I tell my deck about two lovers. Jack and Rose, they come from different places, different classes, but are deeply in love. How does their love end? If I pull the ten of swords, you know that the deck is can cynical but practical. If I pull the five if cups, you know your deck is frank but kind. If I pull the six of swords, you know your deck is kind and optimistic. You know?

This all being said, none of this is set in stone. You don’t like em? You don’t feel like they’ll work? Don’t do em. It’s your deck, it’s your life, it’s your decision.

The Best Perfume Insults

I love people’s writing about perfume, because it’s forced to be so creative.  Scent is hard to talk about, so people have to resort to stories and metaphors, all of them intensely personal to the writer.

And when they don’t like a perfume, that creativity gives forth some of the best insults.  I have here curated my favorites from Perfumes: The Guide by Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez.  The list is long, but trust me, they’re all worth reading.

A disclaimer: The same thing that makes perfume reviews fun to read also makes them super subjective.  I have never found less of a consensus on anything than on perfume.  In other words, if you find your favorite perfume on this list, please don’t take it personally (and don’t blame me- I haven’t smelled most of these myself!)

Lesson n°1 : How to keep up a straight image while having never actually been with a boy or been interested in one by Camila Cabello

So I rewatched the Power 106 FM interview and there’s a few moments that are very revealing on how Camila manage to go along the “straight image” game while at the same time never lying about her actual personal life and the fact that its boy free and actually full of Lauren (theory, don’t get all up my ass please).

Okay the first time boys are brought up in the interview is when they talk about whether or not Sinu is meddling in her love life. Of course the interviewer jump straight into the heteronormative ship (no pun intended) and brings up “friend’s sons” and whatnot. Camila’s response is pretty clear, Mama is out the door, when the person she has a crush on is in the room.

Next stop, the other interviewer, a girl, brings up her own experience at being set up with boys by her mom. Camila comments on it and when she talks about the situation she has a certain gesture :

She points to the girl when she says “with him”, like bitch let’s be clear I’m talking about your story, not mine.

Camila keeps the game up by saying that the “boy situation” is the sahara desert at the moment, no lies there. (p.s : I think that desert is gonna stay empty her whole life)

Also what’s up with that little tilting of the head Camila? Is there something funny? Do you know something they don’t by any chance?

Back to Sinu and how she would discover everything about Camila’s relationship with a boy through her album :

And of course the now iconic Gaymila response :

Another interesting fact is that Camila says right after that Sinu “knew” that she was going through a hard time - might the reason be because Sinu has been on tour with Camila and Lauren for the past 4 years, and that she had a front row seat to witness their relationship? Just a theory.

More boy talk follows (how boring) and the interviewer is still using “him” and “boy” in every sentence - they talk about crushes, and again Camila never specify the gender of these crushes.

(DON’T TOUCH ME!!!)

The only time she directly mentions liking boys is when she’s talking about her childhood, and obviously most kids think they’re straight before anything else.

Again after that the interviewer asks what she’s looking for in a “boy” - Camila never once use a masculine pronoun in her answer, it’s always gender neutral.

She never once used the words “boy” or “guy” directly or use a masculine pronoun - it’s always the interviewer who brings out those words and all Camila does is go along with it, and just like that she fits into the straight box that people put her in (it apparently never occurred to him that she could possibly like girls - fucking heteronormativity) without having to lie or reveal personal detail about her relationship and who that relationship was with. Smart girl Camila, smart girl.

I believe Spencer’s twin is coming.

In this post I want to give a list of reasons why Twincer is my prime suspect as AD. I know a lot of these ‘clues’ come from interviews, but they’re still really convincing for me at least. I’ve definitely missed some of the clues from within the show because they’re not as easy to spot - we need to know for sure if Twincer is happening, then we can dig further. (The fun won’t instantly stop once the finale airs.) But for now, enjoy these, and at the end, I give my theory as to the motive.

Please note: none of this is overly new. This is just the summation of everything we’ve been talking about on my blog for the past couple months. I wanted to put all the ideas into one post, rather than 31529 mini posts scattered here and there. I will be updating this as we find more.

  1. The famous airport scene from 715.
We all already think it’s weird that "Spencer" asked Ezra to not tell anyone he saw her there with Wren. What’s weirder, is the fact that Wren and “Spencer” were arguing. Amongst muffle, I heard Spencer say "stop calling me that" (let me know if you heard differently). Did Wren have a slip-of-the-tongue moment and call her Spencer rather than the twin’s real name?
  2. Dr. Cochran’s story is very telling.
We all already know the ambiguous implication that Mary had more than two babies, because Dr. Cochran said he dealt with “two of Mary’s babies”. What’s more interesting is the second baby he dealt with. The first baby (Charlotte) he gave to Jessica. He said that the second baby that he delivered was placed in family county services. This could not have been Spencer, since Spencer was delivered to Veronica within 5 minutes of birth. So, who was that second baby that was placed in family services? I believe it was Spencer’s twin. Why? Dr Cochran referred to that second baby as “underweight but tenacious” - lo and behold, the next episode, Toby calls Spencer tenacious. This was the writers foreshadowing the similarities between this second baby, and Spencer. Twins.
  3. We all know Hanna’s ‘dream’ in 701.
It makes no sense that Hanna was able to dream ‘Spencer’ saying the name A.D. since Hanna was kidnapped before these initials were even revealed. Perhaps Hanna was visited by Twincer; the one holding her captive.
  4. A.D. needs to stand for something.
Spencer’s twin could literally have the initials A.D., since we know she would be Mary Drake’s child. Her first name would start with A and the D would stand for Drake.
  5. Brendan and Ian both confessed to being confused by the identity of A.D.
They needed the backstory to understand it. Is that because they had no idea who has the name “Alex Drake” (for example) ?
  6. Tyler said before 7B aired that “you’ve never met AD. You kind of have. You’ll know what I mean”.
This can be interpreted in two ways: you’ve never met Twincer but since you know Spencer, you kind of know who AD is. Or. You’ve seen Twincer over the years, but thought it was Spencer. Either way, Tyler’s comment screams twin-theory to me. This could apply to any twin theory, but in this context, I’m using it for Spencer.
  7. Ian said (0:57) that “fans will be satisfied to a point. Right when it seems it’s gonna be really great, it might do a little [downwards hand motion]”….
That cheeky smile on Ian’s face when he said “it seems it’s gonna be really great”… what could be greater than a liar being AD? Ian could be referring to the fact that they initially show us Troian under the hoodie, making us think Spencer is AD. Then, after commercial break, they will reveal it’s just her twin, hence the “it might do a little [downwards hand motion]”. We will be satisfied to a point, he said. It’ll start off amazing by thinking it’s Spencer, oh wait, it’s another twin.
  8. Ashley said (0:14) that she didn’t even know the A.D. reveal is possible.
Because she did not expect a second pair of twins to come along?
  9. “It’s like there are two of you living in this house. You, and you’re evil twin, and we’re not sure who’s coming down to breakfast".
said Veronica to Spencer in 423. Foreshadowing at it’s finest.
  10. Spencer doesn’t remember this flashback.
Was it her twin? And oh how coincidental, that the writers tell us a time Spencer doesn’t remember, in the same scene Veronica makes the above comment about Spencer’s “evil twin”.
  11. “Where are they?”
said Mary as she entered the Hastings house (flashback from 717). Who is they? The twins? She proceeded to say that Spencer is the only good thing she’s ever made. Maybe Mary knows Spencer’s twin is evil, and is neglecting her.
  12. “You look very much like your sister. Almost like twins”.
said Mary to Spencer in 701. The writers wanted us to think that Mary was talking about Spencer and Melissa, since Mary was holding a picture of the half-sisters. But, were the writers, and therefore Mary, hinting towards Twincer? Is Mary being blackmailed/forced (by Peter?) to keep quiet on Twincer, and she had a slip-of-the-tongue moment here?
  13. Marlene is very aware of the Twincer theories.
Back in 2014 she said that Troian sent her an online fan theory regarding Spencer having a twin who is A. Marlene was blown away by it and she thought it was a very well thought out plan with detailed evidence across the series. Watch from 1:35. Whilst you may be saying “there’s NO WAY Marlene spoilt her own show’s ending in an interview!!” - I feel like she had no idea the show would go on for 7 seasons, and once they got renewed, she panicked. “Shit, we need a new Uber A. Let’s go with that brilliant fan theory Troian sent me”. She probably regrets making this interview now. You can tell her passion for Twincer in this interview. She talks so damn highly of it.
  14. Marlene has said that the person who plays A.D. had known for a while.
We know that Marlene told Troian the entire ending of the show years in advance. “Just like I had story time with Marlene, you all now get story time with Pretty Little Liars” said Troian.
  15. The girl in the coffin in the opening has the exact same black puffy shirt as Spencer.
  16. Why does it seem that A.D. is always going after the Hastings?
Why shoot Spencer, out of all the liars? Why demand Aria to plant the audio device in the Hastings? Why not ruin the Marin household? The jealous twin wants her ungrateful sister dead, hence the shooting, and the jealous daughter is angry she never got adopted. Too much of the story is Hastings-oriented.
  17. “They’re all some pretty. Good. Theories.”
Was Janel’s response to being asked about the Spencer-twin theories. (22:20)
  18. And, I’ll just leave this here. Good one @prettylittlesessions !
  19. “Spencer’s” weird comments in 718.
In 718 “Spencer” says to Toby “you know what its like to be the outsider. Removed from friends and family”. What made her say this? Nothing was said or done in 718 to prompt our Spencer to say this.
  20. Keegan said there are no more Spoby kisses in 7B.
“I can honestly say that there is not another Spoby kiss.” Yet - there was one in 718. Either Keegan lied, or that was Spencer’s twin. (10:15)
  21. “It’s somebody you have seen.”
says Marlene in regards to who AD is. Was she talking about the Spoby kiss in 710, which Twincer referred to in 718 when she kissed Toby again? Marlene was very careful to avoid saying “it’s someone you KNOW”. We don't “know” Twincer. But, we have seen her.
  22. “That’s not the Spencer I know”
said Toby in 718. Writers are foreshadowing.

Setting all this aside, I want to add my theory on the backstory and motive:

  • Twincer, who’s name is A_____ Drake, was born in Radley, as Dr. Cochran told us in 7A.
  • Twincer was raised in Radley - not because she needed to be at a psychological hospital, but as a form of daycare, because Mary was deemed an unfit mother, and also she kept Twincer a secret from Peter… he already hated her (to the point of planning her murder, later on) enough for having one baby together, imagine Peter’s reaction to having twins.
  • There, Twincer met and bonded with her sister Charlotte. Charlotte became Twincer’s only friend. (Twincer might even be Bethany, since we already know of this bond between Bethany and Charlotte, and how Bethany was drawing Charles being taken away by a monster. But for this theory, let’s just forget Bethany for a second.)
  • When Mona came to Radley and started telling Charlotte about everything she did to her sister, Charlotte and Twincer wanted to play. They wanted a turn at harassing Spencer and her friends.
  • For Charlotte, as we know, it was the feeling of finally succeeding at something in life that made the game her drug. For Twincer, it was something far darker.
  • Harassing Aria, Hanna, Emily and Alison is all about driving a wedge between the girls. Twincer wants to break up the girls. Turn them against each other. Hopefully by throwing fire at the girls, they will break up, ultimately, to ruin Spencer’s life. Again, jealousy. Twincer’s plan is backfiring because it’s exactly A’s threats that makes Spencer say “we need each other more than ever” and “always stick together”. The writers keep making the point of SPENCER being the one to make the comments about “always” sticking together. Twincer cannot break Spencer and her bitches. This is fueling Twincer’s anger. Nothing is working.
  • That’s why AD/Twincer recently shot Spencer. “If I can’t break the girls up to ruin Spencer’s life, why not just become Spencer?” Twincer shot Spencer in an attempt to assume her identity and squeeze her way into the loving friendship group that she could never crack. “These girls are so loyal to each other… they don’t even break up after even my threats. Damn, I want to be a part of this. It’s my turn to live a happy life. You had your turn Spencer.”
  • Note: I do not believe that AD has been operating since season 1. Mona’s time as A is completely independent from Charlotte and Twincer’s story. Mona started the game, and now someone is ending it, and she wants to know who. Charlotte and Twincer are their own duo; their own A-team, which stemmed as a result of Mona coming to Radley. Charlotte revealed herself - next up in the A team is Twincer, who is carrying on the game she once played with her sister.
Yuri on Ice 2017/02/11 all night event report

I’m back from the event and I’ll write a report before going to sleep, mostly because I’m sure I will not be able to decipher my scribbles when I wake up… It’s not the full talk show since you can’t record it and also I couldn’t possibly write down everything, but I tried to take note of most things, especially stuff that has never been mentioned elsewhere. In the end it became quite long so I guess I was able to get most of the stuff down…

Needless to say it’s my notes, so other people might write about parts I omitted, etc. To be honest quite a few of the things they said especially in the beginning, like what the seiyuu think about their characters, is something I’ve read so many times in interviews that I could almost answer in their place, lol… I was a bit disappointed that one of the questions that was answered is the one about Chris’ mysterious acquaintance, because actually Kubo answered that in Pash already (it’s in the Q&A part I’ll be translating later), and I hoped they would feature questions about stuff that hasn’t been explained yet. Well I guess not everybody reads interviews, but still…

Due to the format of the report you can find my comments here and there, mostly in brackets.
Under the cut because it’s long.

I forgot to mention something important: the ones participating in the talk show were Mitsurou Kubo, Toshiyuki Toyonaga (Yuuri), Junichi Suwabe (Victor), Kouki Uchiyama (Yurio).

Can Conscious K-Pop Cross Over? BTS & BigHit Entertainment CEO ‘Hitman’ Bang on Taking America

On April 2, BTS played the fifth and final date of a sold-out U.S. arena run, performing to the shrieking fans who helped the group’s second full-length album, Wings, become the first K-pop project to crack the top 40 of the Billboard 200 in 2016. Since debuting in 2013, the seven-piece boy band has become a commercial behemoth in its native South Korea while continuing to make inroads within American pop culture. “Change,” an English-language hip-hop collaboration between BTS member Rap Monster and U.S. star Wale, was released three days before the kickoff of the stateside run.

“Change” touches on topics like voting rights and online harassment, while some of BTS’ biggest hits have addressed mental health. “Worldwide, our young generation shares the same issues socially and politically,” says BTS member Suga. Although K-pop music generally steers away from controversy, Rap Monster says that remaining outspoken “is important to us. And the bigger the voice we get, the more powerful our words become.”

A new BTS album is already underway and more U.S. dates might be on the way later this year. Bang Si Hyuk, the CEO and Executive Producer of label/management agency BigHit Entertainment who is better known as “Hitman” Bang, hints at “special features” designed for international listeners but thinks BTS will continue playing to its base.

“I’m not a believer in releasing full English songs to the U.S. market, like many K-pop artists have,” Bang tells Billboard in his first-ever interview with American press. “We must focus on what we do best as K-pop artists and producers and maybe add some special features to which international or U.S. music fans can feel attached. That is the best way for me to put K-pop into the mainstream U.S. music market and, in that regard, BTS will participate and perform in a way that is not much different from what they have been doing in the last three years. We’re adjusting and improving the way we do shows on the tour to meet the international or global level and expectations so that anyone, regardless of their culture and background, can enjoy BTS music and performances.”

Bang is sure to add that the group will be “very active and responsive in releasing new songs that would come out of collaborations with international artists, like 'Change.’” And, looking ahead, both the CEO and band see their most recent accomplishments as inspiration to achieve even more in the future.

“I’m so excited and thrilled at the response to the U.S. tour,” Bang says. “It’s still overwhelming and unbelievable at some point. I even further feel responsible for producing better music and production for fans around the world and I’d definitely think harder on what makes fans enthusiastic and passionate about BTS music and the band.” Meanwhile, the ambition within the group is perhaps best felt when member V winks that the group has “grander goals”; as if arena shows are just the beginning of what he and his band mates plan to accomplish around the world.

Below read on for an extended interview with BTS held before the tour kicked off. All member answers are taken via a translator except for Rap Monster.

With five arena shows, this tour is so huge and I think the main reason for that and why you guys are doing so well in America is because you sing about personal topics. Why is that so important to talk about in your music?

Suga: Worldwide, our young generation shares the same issues socially and politically. I think that young people feel the same way about similar issues and BTS wants to cheer them up with our songs and talk about our feelings and social issues.

Rap Monster: These topics, like you said, they’re important, right? They should be told by someone. Someone should talk about it. And if someone should talk about it, then it feels like we have to talk about it. It’s very much an honor that we get power and attention from our fans them when we use our voices more. It’s important to us and the bigger the voice that we get, the more powerful that our words become.

These topics – loneliness, mental health, bullying – you don’t hear about in K-pop or even Korean culture much. Or, really, in American pop music either. Have you ever worried it might get a negative or opposite response?

Suga: There are people who think negatively and there have been people who react negatively towards BTS’ music. But I think it’s way more important to make music with those issues because I think it’s important to encourage people to fight for those issues and, through the music, have a resolution for those issues. But I’m going to continue to talk about those issues through the music anyway. [Laughs]

Do you think K-pop needs to get more personal to gain a wider audience? Would you like to see that more in future?

Rap Monster: We still need some party songs, we still need some light love songs. I love to listen to them and feel the vibe from that. Everyone has their luggage and their shadows, but it’s up to everyone’s own [devices]. But we’re us. I think if we talk about it and if it gets more voice and attention, then maybe there are a lot of people in the world that accept us start to talk about those issues. I think that’s the change.

I thought “Spring Day” was a really big musical moment for you guys. Not only did it do really well on the charts, but this time you were showing a progression in thinking and a message of hope. The idea of recovering and winter moving to spring. Was that a conscious decision?

Rap Monster: It’s just like what you said, that was one step further. We’re always talking about the crises, the sorrows and youth’s feelings of getting lost. In many [television] programs, when we’d introduce our new album, I’d always talk about the word “recovery.” Like you said, it’s all about the recovery. Winter going to spring. The middle of the winter going to the spring. You got that.

Suga: In addition to being what we are as BTS, we wanted to bring some changes and we actually wanted to evolve as a group. We wanted to show our many colors, but we still want to console others and give hope to others.

Something that was unique was all the solo songs on the Wings album. You’ve done mixtapes, but instead of full-fledged solo or unit releases, you got to show your different sides of yourselves. Why was that necessary?

Jin: The solo tracks were important because it was personal, an individual story and it was represented in the way that we are good at it. We worked a lot on each track and that’s why it was important to each of us.

Rap Monster: When I get questions about why is K-pop is so popular; I always tell them K-pop is like a great mix of music, videos, visuals, choreography, social media and real-life contents. Making the solo tracks on the album was quite a venture, but it’s connected to the concept. Like, when you watch the “I Need U” video, everyone has their own crises and characters. It’s kind of connected to our real personalities and characters, but the solo songs have their own characters and personalities. It’s all connected. It’s a mixture and that’s why people get interested in the concepts.

Speaking of solo songs, “Change” recently came out. Rap Monster, you and Wale are talking about different-but-similar issues when South Korea and America are both having interesting political times. Did you guys have a chance to discuss your different viewpoints?

Rap Monster: We didn’t have the time to get into it deeply, but I’m always watching the news about Trump and America; I always watch. When he first suggested a collaboration, I was like, “What should we do?” We could just do you know, a common hip-hop song, but I wanted to do a little more special. We have our political situation in Korea and the students are very angry. So, I think, if we talked about what’s going on, then we’ll have a real special collaboration. I think my guess was right and it became special.

Do you see or feel your influence among other groups in the industry?

Jungkook: When we debuted back in 2013, we were influenced by our sunbaenim [Korean word for “senior”]. Over the years, as we watched other younger groups, we know they talk about us, they cover us and they follow us. I think they’re saying in interviews that they learned a lot from us and that makes us feel great. Being a sunbaenim, we want to be a good influence and be a better role model to other groups.

Last question, are you happy?

V: For now, we are very happy as we are, as a group, together. And I think we are happy because we are walking on the same path, walking the same direction. We wanted to get Daesang [Best of the Year award], but we have it already so our goal is to make great music, to share it with our fans.

Rap Monster: And a worldwide, stadium tour. That’s the goal.

V: We have grander goals.

Fan: You’re all stranded on an island and you have to kick off one Achievement Hunter—and you can’t kick off Andy, that’d be too easy.

Jeremy: Matt, I’m so sorry.

Jack: I think we all agree Matt, right?

Geoff: I’ll be honest with you, don’t take this the wrong way: Ryan.

Michael: I was thinking the same thing!

Geoff: Ryan will be the first person to resort to cannibalism.

Michael: However, if we voted Ryan off the island he’d be more likely to come back and kill us.

Ryan: I was asked this same question in an interview earlier and I did say that I would hunt you for sport.

“Y/N, are you ready?” Your manager asked.

“Yes,” You said, getting up and walking over. You went to the car which was waiting for you outside. You climbed in before your manager. You sat down and put in your headphones.

Once you made it to the premiere, you took off your headphones and stuffed them into your bag. You walk out and you smiled as some fans started to scream for you.

You posed for some pictures before an interviewer asked to do a quick interview. You walked over to talk to them.

“Hi,” You smiled.

“Hello. I’m here with the world famous actress, Y/N L/N. Y/N, how are you?” They asked you.

“I’m doing well. How are you?” You asked.

“I’m doing well. How excited are you for this film?” They asked you.

“I’m very excited. I loved the book so I’m excited to see the movie tonight,” You tell them.

“Well, in a couple interviews, others asked Bill Skarsgard, the actor who plays Pennywise, who his favorite actress is and he answered on all of them, the same person. You,” They said.

“Really?” You asked, blushing a little. You watched his show, Hemlock Grove, on Netflix and found him very attractive.

“Yes. Do you have anything to say about that?”

“I find him very attractive. I saw him on his show, Hemlock Grove, and thought that he’s a very talented actor,” You told them.

“Do you plan on meeting him tonight?”

“Hopefully. Fingers crossed,” You tell them.

“Well, we hope you have a great time,” They said.

“Thank you. I hope you have a good time as well.”

You walked inside where you were talking to your manager about some next projects.

“Are you sure you want to take a break from acting?” Your manager asked.

“I’m sure,” You tell her. You needed a break. You wanted to finish your schooling and you wanted to lay low for a while.

“Why quit acting? I’m gonna miss seeing you on screen,” You heard. You turned around to see Bill Skarsgard behind you.

“Hi,” You smiled.

“Hi.”

“You were really great in Hemlock Grove. I’m kinda upset that it ended,” you tell him.

“Yeah. It was fun to film.”

“I’m excited to see your movie,” You tell him.

“Really?”

“Yeah.”

“I’m a big fan by the way,” Bill said.

“Really? I actually was told that you had a celebrity crush on me,” You say.

“Yeah,” He said blushing.

“Well, I actually have a small crush on you as well,” You admitted.

“Do you want to go on a date sometime?” Bill asked.

“I’d love that,” you tell him.

“Great,” Bill smiled.

You smile at him before your manager brings you into the room to sit down for the movie.

My Life as a Cartoon Network Intern (and how I think you can Intern in Animation too!)

Over this past summer, I was given the amazing opportunity to be a Production Intern at Cartoon Network (I worked on Clarence; woo!)

Every once in a while I get people who either come up to me in person, or who message me on Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram etc. and ask me how I got the opportunity, and how they can intern in animation as well. Recently (Over the course of the last week or so) I’ve been asked a bunch, so I decided to create this massive master post in an attempt to get the information out to as many artists (and non-artists) as possible!

I know a lot of people who feel like getting into the animation industry is completely impossible, (I should know, I felt the exact same way not too long ago) and I also know just how LITTLE references there actually are on finding an internship, and beyond that, the type of experiences that people who gotten the chance to intern have had. I told myself that if I got the internship, I would try to change that, and here we are! (A little late, but I really want to make this as helpful as possible)

If you all could please Reblog this to your followers I would love it! You never know who’s looking and hopefully, I can help people with my experiences!

So to make it easier for people who don’t have the time to read all of my ramblings, AND for the sake of ease/reference; I’m going to break this post up into different sections: My Internship search My initial excitement/rejections - How I got the internship - My experience as an Intern and How Interning has helped me as an artist

My Internship search:

Halfway through last year (My Sophomore year of college) I had decided that I would take a leap of faith and apply for some internships. I didn’t expect much of it, but my hopes were high because I thought I had at least a halfway decent portfolio, and my resume had some pretty okay animation experience on it (I’m the head of the only Animation organization on campus) and I’m majoring in animation so I had some 3D experience and 2D experience (which I’ve worked on on my own time, since it’s what I want to do)

One of my biggest worries was the fact that I go to a state school: Southern Illinois University. The school is great, and I love it there, but I couldn’t afford art school, so I was very worried about how many opportunities there would be for me in Southern Illinois. Especially with the amount of amazing art that I see coming from people who go to schools like CalArs, Sheridan and the like. I was frustrated because I wasn’t there and felt like I would never get the opportunity to work in animation, which has been my dream since I could hold a pencil. Cartoons have changed my life, and they still do; but I was genuinely afraid that because I couldn’t afford a more art-related education, that I wouldn’t get the opportunity to tell stories like I’ve always dreamed. (But I digress)

As I was saying: I was doing all of your standard (I want/need a job) searches to try to find something in animation: Glassdoor, Internships.com, JOBS.com; stuff like that. FUN FACT: I’ve read every single Glassdoor review for both Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. Every Job. All of them.

Some internships are a lot easier to find: Nickelodeon, Disney, Titmouse

While some are WAAAAAY more elusive: Cartoon Network…

This narrowed my search down from a bunch of animation studios.. to a handful. My candidates were: Nickelodeon, Dreamworks and Titmouse. (All wonderful animation studios!) Now here’s where it gets interesting:

 My initial excitement/Rejections:

I didn’t hear back from any of them! NOT ONE. Which I learned after a very long, VERY stressful waiting period. (At this time it was early to mid April) Now; I knew that I was really too young to be applying for the internships, (I’m young for my grade so I was 19 at the time) And I knew that all of these internships specified that they wanted a Junior or above, but I figured since the year was almost over and I had good grades that MAYBE, they would let me slide. But I had no real experience working in animation, and although my hopes were high, they were also reeeeeeeal low.

After waiting for the few weeks that I did, and not hearing a peep, I was dejected, frustrated, and I felt like there was no hope for me… Which leads us to…

HOW I GOT THE INTERNSHIP:

When it comes to how I actually GOT the job: The answer I want to give you guys is that it was complete luck, and that by a series of random occurrences, somehow I was offered the position…. BUT, that’s only half true. Honestly, I worked really hard on making sure that I had as good a résumé as I possibly could:

By that, I mean that I’ve worked really hard in school to get good grades/dean’s list/honors program, etc.; and I also started an animation organization on campus. (There’s a major, but there was a huge lack of enthusiasm and community within the program at SIU so I wanted to help to bring other artists and myself closer, and make great art while we’re at it)

On top of that, I wrote (what I think was) a really good cover letter. But… Even with all three of those things, I don’t know if I would have gotten the position if it wasn’t for the internship coordinator at my school. I go to Southern Illinois University, and she pointed me in the direction of the Cartoon Network internship. (The Turner website isn’t like Nickelodeon, they only post internships when there’s a position to be filled)

LUCKILY for me, the Producer of Clarence (The wonderful Keith Mack) is an alum from SIU, so he connected with the internship coordinator (bless her heart) and I learned exactly when the position opened up. My resume and things got sent straight to him. I got a Skype interview a couple of weeks later, and I got accepted the day of the interview!

So I mean… Looking back, it was half luck, half hard work.

It’s not like the grades and stuff really matter outside of college; Grades are just arbitrary letters, after all. But, I say that to say that I’ve tried to work hard in college even though I’m not at an art school, and that if you’re focused, it doesn’t really matter WHAT you’re good at; but how hard you work and the type of person you are. You can never go to college but be an amazing artist and an amazing person, and if you meet that ONE right person, or if you’re at that ONE correct place at the correct time; amazing things can happen; and I FIRMLY believe that.

While I was at CN I was talking to someone (I don’t know if it’s best to call her out by name?..) But anyway she was telling me about how some of the artists are found at CN and she told me that Tumblr, YES TUMBLR. Is a HUUUUUUUUGE factor in the hiring of some people! So if you can… POST POST POST! Putting your art out there is the absolute best way to get seen. You NEVER know who’s looking at your artwork, and this website is an amazing platform for sharing, and learning about art. (And as a shameless plug: The blog Artists-Everyday is actually meant for just that ;) check it ouuuuut)

But moving forward; let’s talk about:

THE INTERVIEW:

The interview to be an intern at CN was both really intimidating, and really comfortable at the same time. I love animation pretty much more than anything, so the idea that a single interview could determine whether or not I got a life-changing opportunity was pretty much one of the most daunting things that I could think of. The fact that I was in southern Illinois RIGHT at the time that I would have had to interview really didn’t help either… It was really scary to me, because it meant that I wasn’t going to be able to interview in person. It was a Skype interview, (a group one at that) and it was my first time ever interviewing for a position online.

Once I got past all of the initial fear, the interview was smooth sailing. They had already seen my resume and cover letter; so we really just spent a lot of time talking about casual things: my favorite animated movie, what my favorite episode of Clarence was, etc. It wasn’t like your usual interview where they ask “why would we hire you” or “what is your greatest weakness” and I really appreciated that. They weren’t robots, they weren’t the ANIMATION GODS like I was imagining in my head – they were actual people, who happen to love animation, and the interview reflected that.

I learned that I had gotten the position the day that I interviewed, and I’m SO GLAD I didn’t have to wait any more days, because at that point I was on fire on the inside. II don’t know what the hiring process was like for interns on different shows, so don’t take my word for how long it’ll take if you make it this far)

MY EXPERIENCE AS AN INTERN/HOW IT’S HELPED ME AS AN ARTIST:

There is no one word to describe how amazing it is to work at Cartoon Network. A lot of CN stuff is “hush hush” high security, and they don’t allow you to take pictures of the inside of the buildings - So I’m not going to say much, other than: It’s magic. Pure magic. But I will say one thing: Free food. AT ALL TIMES. EVERY DAY.

Working there is one of the most creatively satisfying things I’ve ever done in my life. The people, the atmosphere… it was all so inspiring. I’ve learned more in those past three months than I have in the last two years, and It’s all because I was surrounded by so many people who are better than me. People, who I might add, are some of the greatest, nicest, and most helpful people I’ve met in a long time. Plus, Cartoon Network really goes out on a limb to take care of their employees.

I got to sit in on voice actors doing their recordings, I got to see storyboard pitches, I got to see animatics and assets for episodes that were unaired, and it was all being created right in front of me by such PASSIONATE people.

I EVEN GOT TO MEET TOM KENNY. He remembered my name…

As a production intern you get to see the logistic side of things: and you really grow to appreciate Production and that side of the industry, because without the production team, there would be no show! Even though I want to be a storyboard artist, I now know more about the industry and Cartoon Network as a whole, and it makes me feel much more connected to the shows that I watch on television.

One of the other biggest things about the program is the fact that I got to take storyboard/character design tests for practice, and I got the chance to pitch a show to the studio, in front of the Clarence Crew and even some really important executives! which was an AMAZING opportunity that I learned a TON from. I got amazing feedback, and I had to push myself harder than I’ve ever pushed myself before. Mentally, artistically, and personally.

IN CONCLUSION

It’s possible. Being an intern at an animation studio is possible. Getting a job in animation is possible. Making friends in animation, and actually feeling like you belong to something you’ve dreamed about since you were a child is POSSIBLE. It doesn’t matter where you go to school, it doesn’t matter if you’re afraid, and it doesn’t matter what you look like. People are drawn to people who are genuine; and if you love animation, or production, or storyboarding or character design, and you work hard and try to really open yourself up artistically; you CAN do it. Take it from the 20 year old black guy who loves anime, video games and cartoons. You can do it.

I don’t know how many people will see this or how helpful it actually is; but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE feel free to share this info with your followers, and on top of that if you guys EVER have any questions about my experiences or need me to clarify anything for ANY reason you’re absolutely welcome to contact me!

I know how many people would love to intern, and I know (from experience) how DREADFUL It is to find conducive information about how the process works and how YOU can get an internship.

Hope you guys stuck with this post till the end, and like I said if you ever have any more questions, (hell, or if you even want to share YOUR art with me… I’m always open!)

TL;DR:                  This Gif Sums it Up
