the fire in which you burn

Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble by pandacowhipster

When potions prodigy Stiles blows up one cauldron too many during one of his ‘experiments’, he gets assigned to making Wolfsbane Potion for the new groundskeeper. Which wouldn’t be so bad if the guy wasn’t you know, terrifying.

“We should have fire in the Heavydirtysoul music video,” Tyler suggested randomly.

Earlier that day, Josh had told Tyler he had Pyrokinesis, the ability to control fire with his mind. Josh wasn’t surprised when Tyler jumped up and down like a child and talked about his own mutation, and Joshs.

You had always known. You two had met in the ER after you had troubles with controlling your mutation, resulting in burns and cuts all over yourself, which was odd, considering you could control minds and objects. Josh had accidentally burned his hand, a gentle reminder that stoves, unless they were gas, were not fire. You’d soothed his thoughts, and later exchanged numbers.

Since then, you were thick as thieves.

And 3 months after meeting, he asked you out. He set up a fire pit and pulled you close, asking it so quietly you almost didn’t hear.

“I don’t know about that, Ty. Mutants really don’t have a good rep, how would they feel about knowing I was… yknow… me,” Josh said. You placed a hand on his shoulder and he looked toward you.

“We’re all mutants, baby,” you started, “you and Ty are probably the only ‘all mutant’ band in the world.”

“They don’t have to know if you don’t want them to,” Tyler said, “we’d play it off as us just lighting a fire next to your drums.”

Josh looked over at you and visibly deflated, “I guess,” he sighed, running his hand through his yellow hair, “but (y/n) needs to be there. For support.”

“Obviously, baby,” you said, kissing his cheek and resting your head on his shoulder.

“You’re gonna have to be in full control as you drum, do you think you can do it?” The producer asked. Today was the big day, Josh was going to control the fire surrounding his drumset. It was decided they weren’t going to tell fans that they were mutants, for everyone’s sake.

“Yes he can,” you answered, the producer nodded and continued to help Tyler with the car scene. You pulled him aside and tugged him in for a hug. “I need you to close your eyes and take a few deep breaths,” you said.

“How is this-”

“Just do it,” you said, he nodded and closed his eyes, taking a few deep breaths, and you could feel his thoughts racing through his head, “you have to make your mind blank, I can’t take them when they’re racing around like this,” he nodded, taking a few more. You took his thoughts and morphed them from nervous energy to adrenaline. Hopefully he could use it instead of being so nervous he’d mess up.

“You ready to do your thing?” Tyler asked.

You watched closely as Joshs fire burned bright, and he pounded the shit of his drums. When they finally wrapped recording he ran over to you, adrenaline still obviously running through his veins. He picked you up and spun you around in his arms. He smashed his lips to yours, and almost as soon as he did so, fire sprung up around you.

As cliche as it was, rocks were floating and fire was heating the chilled air around you. The adrenaline rubbing off on you. A constant downside to your ability, your emotions were easily influenced by people’s emotions.

When you finally pulled apart, the fire simmered out and the rocks hit the ground with a thump.

You heard Tyler clapping and jumping up and down excitedly. You and Josh shared a look, mentally preparing for the excited fangirling that would ensue.

How to donate food to Standing Rock

Sacred Stone Camp

  • With cold weather approaching, Sacred Stone Camp is in need of firewood, as well as woodstoves, propane and fire extinguishers. Because of lack of solar and wind energy at the camps, burning wood and gas will be the primary source of warmth (for both bodies and cooking) in the winter months.
  • Supplies as well as donations can be sent to Sacred Stone Camp P.O. Box 1011, Fort Yates, ND 58538 and 202 Main Street, Fort Yates, ND 58538.
  • Sacred Stone Camp has also created an Amazon wish list to assist you in your purchasing of supplies. A small cast iron logwood stove starts at about $317 (plus shipping), which is less than that new iPhone you’ve been fantasizing about.

Oceti Sakowin Camp

  • Bracing for winter, the Oceti Sakowin Camp has a similar need for propane, heating stoves and cold weather attire, as well as bulk food supplies to be stockpiled for winter, as their current stock of bulk food is dwindling or expiring.
  • Pick up a few extra cartons of rice or preserved meats on your next Costco trip and ship them to Oceti Sakowin Camp, P.O. Box 298, Cannon Ball, ND 58528 or donate funds directly
  • This advocacy group has created a wish list of supplies, on which hundreds of packages of buffalo jerky are requested along with survival supplies and several camp stoves.

Red Warrior Camp

  • The Red Warrior Camp is fundraising $100,000 through a GoFundMe page that will be used for supplies on the ground for individuals protecting the sacred Mni Sose River in sovereign Lakota Territory.

Individual efforts

  • Individuals and businesses across the country are organizing fundraisers and food drives to donate supplies to Standing Rock. Washington resident Ben Sittingbull has set up a donation page to fill a trailer with thousands of pounds of donated organic food
  • Students and activists near Madison, Wisconsin, activists from Santa Cruz, California, San FranciscoLos Angeles and beyond, as well as Texas-based hot dog restaurant Frankand plenty more concerned people and businesses across the country have volunteered their time and services to collect food and deliver it or ship it to Standing Rock.
  • All it takes is some time and organization to involve your community in a fundraiser and drive to collect supplies and express solidarity with Standing Rock en masse.

And, of course, you can donate funds directly to the Standing Rock Sioux tribe, which will be allocated appropriately to support the on-the-ground efforts. Read more

My favorite part about this kiss is how intense Dylan/Stiles’ face is. He’s kissing her like she’s his lifeline, the air he breathes. He’s so consumed in this moment, in this kiss, in Lydia. You can feel how much he loves her and how much this moment means to him. This is everything Stiles has spent the past 10 years building up to, and the intensity with which he kisses Lydia is like none I’ve ever seen. Lydia holds onto to Stiles, kissing him back just as forcefully, and we get this incredible moment that seems to stop time. I just can’t get over how much you can tell that this is quite possibly the most important day of Stiles’ life just by the expression he makes when kissing Lydia. It’s gentle and intense and heartbreaking all at the same time. You can feel the gentleness he possesses for Lydia, but it’s also this intense fire that burns hot enough to consume them both. It’s so amazing that these two completely opposite things can exist simultaneously in just one expression. Dylan never ceases to amaze me with how much he understands Stiles as a character and his unconditional love for Lydia.

You deserve the love you keep trying to give everyone else. You are a rare breed, sparking and gleaming in a world that does not yet understand what it means to love ferociously. You deserve to find someone who does not ask you to lessen your roar, who is in awe of the magnitude by which your passion burns. You deserve to find someone who will only ever want to add to your fire, someone who will use their own matchstick heart to encourage your passion, to magnify your flame. Until then, use the world as your kindling, use experience as your coal. Grow your love like a wildfire, and never back down from its heat; never let them dim its light.

At a quick glance, you might miss the ancient cliff dwellings that blend effortlessly into the sheltered alcove of the canyon wall at Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado. These elaborate stone communities contained as many as 150 rooms, some of which still feature smoke-blackened walls and ceilings from fires that burned during cold winter months. The park protects nearly 5,000 archeological sites, inspiring visitors to imagine what life was like over 700 years ago. Photo courtesy of Chris Wheeler.

Why is blood red?

There is a scientific answer, but it is a cold one.
Cold like ice. Hard like steel. Unfeeling.
It reflects nothing of the blood itself.

Blood, which is —
Warm, like fire. Fluid, like water.
Red, like anger. Passion. Fury. Love.

Yes, that is why.
It is the emotion of the body,
the language of the soul,
the tears of the flesh, of the heart.
For when you strike it cruelly enough,
it weeps, it cries, it burns.

A burn that screams:
and demands you stay that way.

anonymous asked:

Hello, I have a question about guns. My story is set in a world that recently invented guns, so the designs are flawed. Is it reasonable for a gun (something small like a pistol) to jam when fired and explode in someone's hand? And how much damage would the explosion cause?

“Yes,” and, having their hand, “turned into something resembling goulash,” comes to mind. Though, “jamming,” is probably the wrong mental image.

It’s probably worth remembering, early guns were little more than a hollow metal tube and (sometimes) a handle, which you’d manually fire by touching off the powder with a burning object (called a match, but it’s not equivalent to modern matches at all.)

If a gun was poorly forged, over loaded with powder, or had something obstructing the barrel, it was possible for a gun to misfire or detonate in the user’s hand or face.

These were strictly single shot weapons. Powder had to be poured, by hand, followed by forcing the bullet down the barrel.

Depending on what evidence you take, the first guns originate in the 12th or 13th century. And, they pretty much stayed that way for a long time. There were numerous technological advances. But, the gun remained (primarily) a single shot weapon for nearly 600 years. If guns are a new technology in your setting, you’re probably not going to be looking at having issues like jamming. (At least not the familiar concept.)

It’s probably worth considering, that self feeding firearms didn’t become a practical option until the transition from black powder to smokeless in the late-19th century.

Put another way; we’ve been shooting people for eight centuries, we’ve had auto-loading firearms for a little over one.

There’s also a terminology hickup that can confuse people. Handgun is not a modern term, however, using it to refer to pistols is far more recent. Early handguns were longarms. The name meant you could carry and fire the gun by hand, not that it was a small compact weapon. As I recall, the first pistols didn’t appear for around a century after the introduction of the handgun. I could be wrong on that number, by the way, it might be as fast as a couple decades. They were roughly contemporary with the development of the matchlock as I recall. (But, this specific era of the timeline is something I’m a little shaky on.)

Based on the actual development of guns, if your setting just developed guns within the last couple decades, you’re looking at something more like a pole arm, that has to be manually loaded, and then the powder is set off using a match.

As you get to the point where guns have been around for 50 years to a century, you’ll start seeing firearms where the match is mounted to the gun, and a trigger mechanism ignites a flashpan of powder by dropping a lit match (usually a piece of slow burning cord at this point. (A fingertip sized, shallow bowl, mounted on the side of the gun, usually with an articulated cover).

At roughly two centuries out, you’ll start seeing rifled barrels, which are far more accurate, but require additional time and effort to load. You’ll also start to see flintlocks.

At five centuries, you’ll start to see the introduction of percussion caps, and something that looks more like what you’d consider a firearm. This would be followed by early revolvers, and pre-sealed center-fire cartridges. This would allow for the first manually cycled repeating firearms, and make rifled firearms practical for combat usage. This would also, roughly, match the introduction of the shotgun.

As you get into the sixth century, you’ll see the first double action firearms (where each pull of the trigger can recock the hammer), and the development of semi-automatic firearms.

I’m skimming over the evolution of how society and the military viewed guns, for instance, most militaries opposed the introduction of repeating firearms because they feared their soldiers would recklessly burn through ammunition, straining their logistical support. But, that’s a lot more open for your worldbuilding. Still, it’s something you might want to look into and research further.

If you’re gonna do bondage with Christmas lights:

- make sure you get the low-heat kind so you don’t burn anyone or set fires

- don’t tie tightly: they don’t have the flexibility that rope does and also might slip or pinch and then you have only seconds before damage

- don’t use it to suspend anyone; it is not graded to hold weight and might slip, or break, which could cause injury or death

- if you need to cut it, make sure to unplug it first so you don’t electrocute yourself

The "I know I have other things to write but these seem so cool/weird/etc" sentence prompt meme

Because I’m absolute shit and have a habit of coming up with sentence prompts instead of writing stuff I should be working on, I present this list of sentence prompt memes.

Send me a few of these and I’ll write a drabble based off of it, naturally it’ll be a reader insert. Be sure to include which character you’d like.

You can even use them as rp starters/fanfic/whatever.

Loki has never been more curious about anything until he met you.

He stands now, watching you at the counter at the bakery, talking to the cashier with such a light in your eyes-your first point of proving to him why humans are good is that they make really good food, and this is the best bakery in town. Before the two of you left your house, she made Loki dress in human clothes, which he wasn’t very happy about, and a baseball cap pulled low over his face.

After all, he did try to destroy the planet.

That reason alone is why he is so intrigued by you. You were only afraid of him for a little bit when you found him, and then the fear disappeared into kindness and determination. A fire burns in your eyes behind your glasses, and Loki respects that immensely.

Though, no matter your efforts, you will never be able to convince him that your kind is good.

So why is he still here with you?

a/n: so here’s a little fic i wrote for chapter 61 day even though it’s already the 26th of december cOUgh. it’s a parallel between the events of chapter 61 and the present moment. i hope you enjoy it! merry christmas, everyone ! <3

everything is burning, and baz is crying.

the grass and trees around him are going up in flames, flames he set himself, and simon snow is in front of him, holding onto his face – trying to get him to stop all this, probably. baz isn’t hearing a word of what he says. he’s just staring at simon’s mouth, which is hanging open (mouth breather) and moving quickly around frantic words that don’t get past the roaring in baz’s ears. or is that the roaring of the fire around them?

it’s a complete mess - this burning forest, this failed mission with nicodemus, these two crying boys crouched in the middle of nowhere. getting nowhere.

strange, baz thinks idly, strange that all his life he’d wanted so many things - good grades, his father’s approval, his mother back - but the only thing he truly, fiercely wants before he dies is to kiss the boy he loves.

Inspiration #2
Determination. It’s something many of us feel we lack. But in reality, it is the fire which burns in us ever day. Many of the things we do are because we are determined to move up in life. Now, apply that principle to your diet and fitness plan. Think of how far you have come, and how much further you can go. Just keep pushing, and you’ll achieve any goal you’ll set yourself.

There are a hundred trillion cells in the human body, and every single one of the cells of my body loves you. We shed cells, and grow new ones, and my new cells love you more than the old ones, which is why I love you more every day than I did the day before. It’s science. And when I die and they burn my body and I become ashes that mix with the air, and part of the ground and the trees and the starts, everyone who breathes that air or sees the flowers that grow out of the ground or looks up at the stars will remember you and love you, because I love you that much.
