WWF Women’s Champion Jacqueline
From the year 1995 until late 1998, the WWF Women’s Championship was inactive due to a lack of competitors to necessitate a division. Because of that, the title was widely forgotten, but as The Attitude Era continued to blossom, more and more women were becoming a focal point of the show, and it became a necessary entity to reintroduce the title. At the time, Sable was one of the most popular wrestlers on the program, often garnering huge reactions that were only toppled by behemoths such as Stone Cold Steve Austin.
When the new WWF Women’s Championship was introduced, fans were ready to see their blonde hero capture the gold, but this would prove to be a daunting task due to Sable’s ex-husband Marc Mero, and his new belle, Jacqueline. A former WCW and USWA star, Jacqueline was known for how tough she was in the ring, beloved in the locker room as “one of the boys” who could take you down in arm wrestling or out-drink anyone around her. She proved her toughness when a tournament was held to crown the new champion, when she defeated Sable to become the first WWF Women’s Champion in nearly three years.
