the curse workers series

mumaugh  asked:

i'm in love with SoC and CK but i can't find any new books that make me fall in love like yours. any recommendations? :)

If you’re looking for quality magical mafia and cons, I absolutely love the Curse Workers series by Holly Black.

If you’re looking for dark antiheroes, I’m going to point you to The Young Elites by Marie Lu.

If you’re looking for a romp-like heist, give Ally Carter’s Heist Society a try.

If you want lush fantasy, try The Star Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi.

Sea pirate hijinx with awesome ladies? The Abyss Surrounds Us by Emily Skrutskie

More lady pirates and shady characters to love? A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

More action? Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

These are all YA fantasy, so if you’re looking for something else, lemme know! I could do this allllll day.

I was tagged in another thing!

Harry’s going to audition for The X-Factor in a few days, he really can’t use this persistent tickle in his throat. What’s even worse is when the tickle turns into a full blown cough, and the cough makes him pass out only for Harry to wake up in a different world. And then another one, and another one, and another one. The only other person who seems to be as affected as he is, is a boy with blue eyes who keeps showing up in every single one of these worlds.

Review  - 9 out of 10 Larry Thumbs!!!!

Wow, this fic grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. From the first jump in time, I was completely hooked and had to see how everything worked out.

It’s a cross between a time travel/interdimensional  AU and a soulmates AU, and let me tell you, I’m so into it. Harry and Louis spend the bulk of this fic bouncing around to different versions of themselves throughout time and alternate universes (even HOGWARTS!). It constantly keeps you on your toes as a reader, and every time you think you have something figured out, you’re surprised by what’s really going on or where they end up next. It’s such a fun read while still being thought provoking. I really enjoyed it!

I also have to praise the author’s choice to use the Worker’s universe. If you like young adult fiction (particularly supernatural works) you have to read Holly Black’s Curse Workers series. You get a taste of the ‘verse in this fic, and I hope it leads you to the books if you haven’t read them. I’ve read the first one (White Cat), and I loved it. It’s really intriguing and wonderfully unique in a market flooded with sameness.

Give this fic a read when you’re looking for something different or when you can’t make up your mind what kind of AU you want to read - you’ll get Larry in all kinds of situations with this one! Just… make sure you don’t say anything about bunnies around Louis… :P

But now I wonder–what if everyone is pretty much the same and it’s just a thousand small choices that add up to the person you are? No good or evil, no black and white, no inner demons or angels whispering the right answers in our ears like it’s some cosmic SAT test. Just us, hour by hour, minute by minute, day by day, making the best choices we can.
The thought is horrifying. If that’s true, then there’s no right choice. There’s just choice.
—  Cassel Sharpe (Black Heart by Holly Black)

Okay, so I’m finally doing a post about my favorite books of 2015! I will list them below, but the pic of them all is above. I read 200 books (includes novels, novellas, graphic novels, and a couple manuscripts) in 2015, so compiling this list of my favorites was a challenge. I also hope to make a post soon talking about some of my reading goals for 2016. The books:

  • Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas
  • The Wrath & the Dawn by Reneé Ahdieh
  • I’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios
  • This Raging Light by Estelle Laure
  • Under a Painted Sky by Stacey Lee
  • The Wrong Side of Right by Jenn Marie Thorne
  • Audacity by Melanie Crowder
  • The Curse Workers Series by Holly Black (3 books)
  • The Walled City by Ryan Graudin
  • Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin
  • The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
  • Harry Potter books 1, 2, & 3 by J.K. Rowling

And can we just ponder why so many of these books have some hue of red somewhere on the cover? I don’t know how that happened…

apolymi  asked:

So because I love your Curse Workers series so much, I decided to try and count how many cups of coffee Cassel drank over the course of the three books. I'm looking at roughly 102 cups so far. That boy drinks coffee like he's got the last coffee beans on the planet.

And he never really eats either, poor kid.

Thank you for this ask, because it  made me so happy that you counted.

anonymous asked:

so i've just finished watching the veronica mars tv show and i was wondering if any books fit that vibe? mysteries that keep you on the edge of your seat, epic romances, spunky heroines, good friends but not always a happy ending?

Hello friends!

Luckily for you, mystery is one thing that we love. Here’s a list of mystery books featuring thrills and high stakes with a dash of romance and more.  ✿◕ ‿ ◕✿

*romance may/will occur in the later books
