More than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises are being slaughtered each year for their meat at the Cove in Taiji, Japan. Yet, the majority of the world is not aware of this happening. Be a part of the solution by signing and sharing this petition.
Soon these beautiful creatures could simply be a memory.
Scientists predict we may lose half the species on the planet by the end of the century. They believe we have entered the sixth major extinction event in Earth’s history. Number five took out the dinosaurs. This era is called the Anthropocene, or ‘Age of Man’, because the evidence shows that humanity has sparked this catastrophic loss. We are the only ones who can stop it as well.
The Oceanic Preservation Society, the group behind the Academy Award® winning film THE COVE, is back for “Racing Extinction”. Along with some new innovators, OPS will bring a voice to the thousands of species on the very edge of life. An unlikely team of activists is out to expose the two worlds endangering species across the globe. The first threat to the wild comes from the international trade of wildlife. Bogus markets are being created at the expense of creatures who have survived on this planet for millions of years. The other threat is all around us, hiding in plain sight. There’s a hidden world that the oil and gas companies don’t want the rest of us to see.
Director Louie Psihoyos has concocted an ambitious mission to call attention to our impact on the planet, while inspiring others to embrace the solutions that will ensure a thriving planet for future generations.
Japanese government website hacked by Anonymous over dolphin hunts.
Japanese government’s websites, including the ones of the prime minister’s office, Taji, Wakayama Prefecture, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, have been cyber attacked by Anonymous, a group of “hacktivists” (hacker-activists) who primarily hack websites to bring about social change.
“STOP these slaughters IMMEDIATELY, or get ready to face the extent of our wrath,” was the online message sent by Anonymous to the Japanese government.
In just 5 days, the Dolphin slaughter and captures will continue in Taiji Japan for a 6 month season.
If you are asking yourself “what is the Taiji Dolphin Slaughter?” then you must watch The Cove for free here. It is a must-see in order to educate yourself on the topic, or even just a refresher for people who already know about this.
*Another Way to help- do not support the captive dolphin industry by not going to any kind of facility that houses captive dolphins, such as dolphinariums, marine parks, swim with the dolphin programs, and dolphin therapy programs*
BREAKING: an organizer from Marineland Animal Defense has arrived on site at Marineland in Niagara Falls Ontario and will live in this bathtub for the next 3 days. There is no difference between his confinement to the tub and an orca in a tiny tank inside this facility.
Solidarity from Marineland Animal Defense for all animals held captive.
If you are in the area, please drop by and show some support! We hear they would really appreciate a warm drink and a few high fives. The tub will be on site and occupied for the entire closing weekend.
“Yes, absolutely, we should condemn the senseless violence against dolphins in Japan. But in doing so, let us also condemn our own callous animal exploitation here in the U.S. And after condemning it, we can also then do something about it. We can choose a more compassionate relationship with animals.”- Erica Meier
Maui’s dolphins live only off of the coast of New Zealand. They are the world’s smallest species of dolphin. With only 50 left in the wild, this species is very very near extinction. The threat to their survival stems from human and environmental problems such as getting stuck in nets, pollution, getting hit by boats and boat propellors, and acoustic pollution from construction.
