the composites book

                                                 Chapter One Preview:

The seventeen-year-old was uncertain how long he had been sitting in the interrogation room—for all he knew, it could have been hours or maybe even minutes—before the door to his left opened and a man wearing a suit stepped into the room with him. Given the grim look on his face and the case file in his hand, Jared highly doubted it was a lawyer.

“Hello, Mr. Padalecki,” The older man greeted him as he came to stand across the table from him, placing the case file onto the table. “My name is Detective Nelson, but you may call me Rob if you’d like. Do you understand why you’re here?”

Jared couldn’t honestly understand why nor could he even imagine up something that would’ve landed him there. He shook his head slowly.

Detective Nelson grimaced. “I see. Well perhaps this might help,” He offered as he opened the file, removing a slender black Composition book from it to hold it out for Jared to see and his heart immediately dropped into his stomach at the sight. “Do you know what this is?”

“My notebook,” He replied softly and he could feel all heat leave his body as he continued to stare at the book in the man’s hand. Jared swallowed thickly before he continued. “I didn’t do anything wrong.”

“No?” Detective Nelson inquired with a raise of his graying eyebrow as he opened the notebook and read from the first page. “Noon would be the time to do it. The entire student body will be crammed into a four-walled coffin like a can of sardines—sitting prey. Two Colt .45’s would be my weapon of choice. Tyler Benson, that preening, prick of a peacock would be my first kill. His girlfriend, Claire Glascock, that groupie skank would be the next to go. Then once the life from their eyes has faded, I will paint the entire cafeteria red with the blood of all those who have hurt me—wronged me. This will be my tale of revenge,” –-At this, the man slapped the book down onto the table, causing the seventeen-year-old to jump— “Tell me, Jared. Who has caused you so much pain, that you would consider killing another person?”

Some Advice for Getting Started:

*Start with things that interest you!*

I know i get terribly bored very quickly (gemini curse lmao) so i find that if i dive into stuff i’m interested in learning about, that it will tend to hold my attention longer and help me get back into the swing of things! So in my example one of my first things i researched when i was starting out was about Crystals and their properties/uses in magic! From there i was able to use that as a sort of base jumping off point for my magical practice! And if you find something you were learning about doesn’t seem like it fits you/your style/ your practice then drop it and move on to the next thing!

*Ask Questions!*

No Questions Are Stupid Questions  No Questions Are Stupid Questions  No Questions Are Stupid Questions!!!! Questions mean you care enough to try and learn more about something! I’m pretty much always here and will try my best to answer as best as i am able And if I can’t i will do my best to help direct you to someone more knowledgeable!

*TAKE YOUR TIME!*

This one is important because most of the time i feel like i see baby/beginner witches try really REALLY hard to “reach the same level” as other witches as quickly as possible when in reality that just hurts THEIR path in the long run. Your path is your own, take it at your own pace. Enjoy the little bumps along the way and find the “Roses of your Path” (the things that make you want to stop and appreciate them: the satisfaction of calling your first Storm, the chill of the night air when you set out your first Full Moon Water, the spark when you find that one crystal.) Enjoy it. Enjoy your path, Enjoy your Craft.

*Use the Things you Already Own!*

Another thing i see beginners getting hung up on (myself included, i was/am extremely guilty of this lol) is wanting to go out and buy a ton of supplies. try looking around your house for things that can be re purposed. Old Spaghetti Sauce Jars can be cleaned and used as spell jars, deity altars/shrines, or ingredient storage! Take pictures from old magazines and make a collage Altar on paper! Use a composition notebook as your Book Of Shadows! Your old broken glasses case can be used as a case for your portable altar! Dig around and see if there are extra candles you haven’t used in a while! Wash out and save those eggshells from your cooking to use as spell ingredients! It takes some creative thinking but you can reclaim pretty much anything for your craft!

*Look for Bargains!*
For one thing prices can be outrageous for actual craft materials: like Crystals and Gems? Truly truly truly outrageous. So keep your eyes peeled for bargains and deals! Some of the best places to look for things on the cheap would be Dollar Stores, Flea Markets, Thrift Shops, Garage/Estate Sales! Most of the time in those places you can try haggling to get things at a cheaper price (or get more for less.) It really just depends on the place but you can find the most interesting assortments of things! Keep your eyes peeled in your general day to day life as well see if there are sales at your local grocery store for seed packets, seasonal items/holiday items (look for the sales afterwords to really save haha) The internet is a great place to look, i know Ebay has sellers who sell raw crystals/ crystal chunks by the pound. There’s also places to buy spices in bulk too

*Don’t Compare Your Path to Others!*
Your Path is Your Path, Their Path is Their Path.
Being online and part of the witchy community in tumblr means that there are a lot of ideas being shared from people’s paths and their views on how they think magic should be practiced. What works for them might not work for you and vice versa. Only YOU can decide what is best for you and your path. and on that note:

*Figure Out What YOU Want Out of Your Path!*
When you get some time, sit down and write out all the things you want to get from your path and think critically about how you want magic to work in your daily life. Do you want it to be Super Formal or more casual? perhaps a mix of the two?  Test the waters! Try things once and if you don’t like it then you know and can move on to the things that work better for your lifestyle/craft/path!
Some examples from my list that i can think of right now would be:
-Better knowledge of Crystals/ Crystal remedies and their healing properties
-Daily research -aka tumblr-
-Appreciating Nature more (Whenever i go on walks with my dog i try to pick up some litter if/when i see it)
-Daily Deity appreciation  -aka deity aesthetic reblogs to @theemeraldgod & Pintrest-

How to Write a Literary Analysis Research Paper

 Part One: Notes

Part Two

Notes are a daunting part of reading a book for school, and, whenever the teacher doesn’t require it, most skip out on taking them. They’re annoying and mostly seem pointless until you are left scrounging for pieces of evidence the night before the paper is due. However, most people don’t know how to take notes. That’s why I’m here.

1. Literary Devices

First, whenever you notice a literary device being used, such as foreshadowing or symbolism or the like, mark it with a tiny flag. Then, when you’re doing your notecards you can find what you need easily. My friend Emily was calling me her savior when she was using my notes to find last minute quotes for her note cards because they were so organized. They’re so easy to take and so helpful. It would be lazier to not take them in all honesty. I used flags like these.

2. Questions

The next thing to do is ask yourself questions while you’re reading. You ask these in your head easy enough, now just write them down. They will jog your memory later when you need to remember what was going on in that part. And they’ll help you come up with a topic of discussion for your paper. You can write these on your flags or your regular old run-of-the-mill post-its. You can even use questions from movies and other books. My essay was titled ‘Who is the Monster and who is the Man,’ which came from Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame. It kept running through my head as I was reading the book so I smacked it down onto a sticky note, and then it was the center of my paper.

3. Thoughts

I had to take notes like this anyways, but sometimes it’s nice to just put what exactly you’re thinking onto paper, no matter how ridiculous the ideas are. They make for an interesting read when you go back through for quotes, and they can even help you to understand what exactly is going on. I had several sticky notes about his poor brother Ernest, and he wasn’t even important. I would summarize the plot on some, I would yell at Victor on others. I would write down whatever I really wanted to and then some. These are the notes most teachers want, and they’re not that hard to take.

Notes may seem daunting, but there’s nothing to them. Don’t let them scare you, and don’t let them seem like too much work. They’re so useful when it comes to writing your paper.

So go out there, and take some good notes!

oops, i’ve been been meaning to post this on tumblr after i posted it on my studygram, but i guess i forgot ahahaha oops!
anyways, i tend to spend too much time on my ap bio lab reports, and here’s how one lab report diagram spiralled out of control (it was supposed to be a simple pencil sketch whoops)

Summary: Reader and Lin have to meet every two days to work on their play. Will they make it through the month without wanting to kill each other? Will it make them any closer or will it just make things awkward?

Warnings: Pride and Prejudice is mentioned a lot in this series bc why not (not in this part–just in the series in general), high school bullies, teen! lin being a jerk, reader being a jerk, just everybody being a jerk, dads embarrassing their children.

“I got it, dad!” You scream to your father as you rush down the stairs.

You swing open the door and when you see him, you can’t help but gawk at his beauty.

Before you stands Lin with his headphones around his neck, his hands are fiddling with the strings on his light gray hoodie, and his eyes stuck on the welcome mat at your front door. Your heart swells a little at the thought of maybe wearing his hoodie, before you remind yourself what a jerk he is and how he isn’t worth your time. He doesn’t look up when the door is opened, so you clear your throat to get his attention.

You don’t greet him with a normal ‘hello’. All you say to him is, “I half expected you not to come.” He scoffs. “Well, at least not on time.”

He smirks before pushing past you to step inside your home.

“You said that you hated when people are late, and the last thing I would want to do is make you mad.” You can’t help but want to smack the smirk off of his face.

Hi, Emma! I got a bunch of composition notebooks as gifts and they're very pretty, but I don't really know how to best use them. I prefer spirals or loose leafs for notes, and they're not perforated. Any ideas on how to use these composition books? Thanks ><)

Hi! I know what you mean about being particular about notebooks - the number of ones I went through trying to figure out which style I liked best is crazy! Here are a few ways you could use them:

  • bullet journal: note down all your daily to-do and focus on getting them done!
  • diary: log your day, write what you did, just a record of your day-to-day happenings
  • gratitude journal: write down things you’re grateful for each day and why
  • 365 journal: write down a sentence a day. Could be a quote you like, an event that happened, a funny moment or something!
  • dream log: write down your dreams and maybe research their meaning!
  • review journal: if you see and movie or read a book write down your thoughts!
  • photo a day journal: make a daily scrapbook/photo album
  • expense tracker: note each thing you spend your money (you could track everything or just the things you treat yourself on)
  • goals journal: set yourself a goal and try to map out how you will achieve over a certain amount of time! Record how well you’re doing!
  • recipe book: write down ingredients and an easy step-by-step guide so you can always make something to eat
  • dashboard notebook: a little book that is kind of a hub of your life such as important emergency contacts, accounts names/passwords/emails, etc
  • tv show tracker: note down each season and cross of episodes as you go. You could also write down important parts of each episode so you can be reminded of what you’ve seen.
  • inspiration/mood-book: print off photos, quotes, random bits and bobs that you find inspiration
  • gift log: write down the birthdays, anniversaries, holidays of your friends and note down any ideas you might think they’d like as a gift. If they ever say “I love that!” then make a note of what it is and where to get it so you can get later!
  • wishlist journal: take note of things you’d like to buy over the year!
  • happiness journal: make a scrapbook of things that make you happy - could be photos, quotes, events, people, etc
  • monthly overview, goals and reflection: each month write down things that happened and how you felt
  • project/assessment book: plan out all your school or university assignments such as due dates, word count, to-dos, questions, citations, etc
  • ‘fuck that’ book: when you’re angry or annoyed by something, write it down, rant about until your hearts content!
  • your own wreck this journal - you can Google to see what I mean but make your own version. Either you come up with ideas or maybe get a friend to write down cool things to do.
  • magazine clipping journal - if you see anything you like, cut it and stick it in. For me, I’d maybe do street style or runway fashion!
  • swatch book: whenever you get some new pens, make a swatch board of them!
  • friendship journal: you and your friend(s) could make a book where you write down things you like about each other, places you go to together, photos you take, etc. Maybe pass it around each week and you can all review what you’re doing!
  • travel log: even if you aren’t travelling far or overseas write down where you go and what it was like. Write down places you’d like to visit or things you’d like to see!
  • doodle book: just a book full of random drawings, sketches, etc
  • writing prompts: find some writing prompts that you’d like to continue and get writing!
  • receipts book: stick in all the things you spend your money on either to track or just out of curiosity!
  • flower press log: a cool way to save any pretty plants you find!
  • scrapbook: put in some of your favourite things in there! You could maybe do them for your friends for cute, personalised gifts!
  • handwriting practice: take time to practice your lettering, caligraphy or just normal handwriting!
  • habit tracker: do a ‘don’t break the chain’ kind of thing to either create or break your habits!

Hope that gives you some ideas! x

Give My Love to Huckleberry Finn (Part One)

A few days ago @finding–cat tagged me to share a piece of my favorite writing. This is the prologue to a story I wrote in the fall. I’m not sure it’s my best work but it was my first attempt at magical realism and I had a really good time writing it, which for me matters more than the final product. Since it’s completed and edited and just sitting on my hard drive, I figure why not share it?

Synopsis: Once schoolmates, Harry and Cece haven’t seen each other in ten years. That is until one Autumn afternoon when Cece stumbles onto the strawberry farm where Harry lives and works. After seeing his meager life conditions, she offers to teach him how to read in the hopes that he will make a better life for himself. Only, that’s easier said than done considering the fact that Harry has a pair of wings.
