John William Coltrane, also known as “Trane” (September 23, 1926 – July 17, 1967)was a jazz saxophonist and composer. Coletrane worked in the realms of bebop and hard bop early in his career. He later helped pioneer the style of free jazz and avant-garde. Towards the end of his long career experimented with different sounds and styles.He worked as a side man with jazz greats like Miles Davis and Thelonius Monk. Coletrane influenced a number of musicians and remains one of the most significant saxophonist in music history.
