“It was my past. I lost that world the night my parents died.” He drew close again. “But I found you, Deryn. Maybe I wasn’t meant to end the war, but I was meant to find you. I know that. You’ve saved me from not having any reason to keep going.”

“We save each other,” Deryn whispered. “That’s how it works.”

“I can’t not be with you, Nathan. I wanted to leave you in that grave and walk away but I couldn’t. I can’t walk ten paces away from you without it hurting me. I treasure every second with you. Every second. More than you know.”

I felt him give a slight twitch in my arms. “Be still,” I whispered. He prized his eyes open and looked up at me. His tongue sought to moisten his lips. “What are we doing?” he croaked. “We’re standing very still in the middle of an avalanche,” I whispered back. My throat was so dry it was hard to talk. “I think I could stand” he offered weakly. “Don’t move!” I ordered him. He took a slightly deeper breath. “Why are you always near me when I get into these sort of situations?” He wondered hoarsely. “I could ask you the same,” I retorted, unfairly. -Assassin’s Quest, Robin Hobb

I miss them SO MUCH

Ransom Riggs is bringing the story of "the peculiars" to America and revealing more of their secret history in the new world for the series' second trilogy.

A new Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children trilogy is coming, publisher Dutton Books for Young Readers said Thursday. The new three-book arc continues the adventures of Jacob Portman, Miss Peregrine and the peculiars by bringing the story to America. The untitled first book will publish in fall 2017.

“The first three novels introduced the peculiars and their world, but peculiardom is vast, its history is long, and there’s so much left to discover,” said author Ransom Riggs in a statement. “I can’t wait to delve deeper, and to bring the story to America — which, as it turns out, is a much more peculiar place than anyone realized!”

Added editor Julie Strauss-Gabel, “Stepping into the peculiar world has been a true gift to me and to millions of readers. I am overjoyed to continue this amazing adventure and discover the many peculiar stories that await Jacob and his friends. I can imagine no better tour guide through America than Ransom Riggs, whose transporting imagination and enormous heart have made so many so proud to be peculiar.”

The skies of this world were always meant to have dragons. When they are not there, humans miss them. Some never think of them, of course. But some children, from the time they are small, they look up at a blue summer sky and watch for something that never comes. Because they know

Strong YA Secondary Women

Nobody wants to read about the background characters…Or do they? In my opinion, the story is never truly about the main character. Rather, it is about that character’s journey from point A to point B and all the funky things in between. That includes the other characters they meet, because not only do those characters help the main protagonist reach a certain goal– they also go through an adventure of their own making.

Think of it this way: your friends aren’t secondary just because they don’t share your point of view. It’s all a matter of perspective! That being said, meet some of my favorite secondary ladies of YA Lit…

Asterin Blackbeak from Sarah J Maas’ Throne of Glass series.

“…Then one day, I just woke up and decided to fight. I trained. I healed my body. I grew strong –stronger than I’d been before. And I stopped thinking about it. A month later I went hunting for Crochans, and walked back into the Keep with three of their hearts in a box. If your grandmother was surprised I hadn’t died, she didn’t show it. You were there that night I came back. You toasted in my honor, and said you were proud to have such a fine Second.”

Zoya Nazyalensky from Leigh Bardugo’s The Grisha Trilogy.

“I’m a soldier of the Second Army. This is where I belong.”

Orla Sargent from Maggie Stiefvater’s The Raven Cycle.

“Blue didn’t envy Orla’s clairvoyance. She did envy her ability to be different without even trying.”

Zuzana Nováková from Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy.

“I want to build spires in their minds and dance shadows through like marionettes, chased by whispers and hints of the unspeakable.”

Despina from Renee Ahdieh’s The Wrath and the Dawn duology.

“Tonight is a night to turn heads. Make them remember you. Make sure they never forget. You are the Calipha of Khorasan, and you have the ear of a king.” Despina put her hand on Shahrzad’s shoulder and grinned at their shared reflection. “More important, you have his heart.” She bent forward and lowered her voice. “And most important, you are a fearsome thing to behold in your own right.”

Sophie Collins from Cassandra Clare’s The Infernal Devices trilogy.

“It’s all right to love someone who doesn’t love you back, as long as they’re worth you loving them. As long as they deserve it.”

Evangeline Samos from Victoria Aveyard’s Red Queen trilogy.

“Evangeline appears through the steam, knives swirling around in a glinting display.”

You’re mine. And I’m yours. Don’t forget it. Don’t let your Master tell you otherwise. We shall only ever belong to each other. I’ve seen the future. I know it’s true.

Under the Ruins of a Walled City by hollycomb

I’d say that the dream sequence with teen Hux and Ren in Chapter 5 is my favorite scene in the series so far but that would be a lie because all of the scenes are my favorite scenes. Reading the new chapter of Children, Wake Up is always the best part of my week so it was really never a matter of if I would draw fanart, but when.

“I don’t mean to be rude’ I said, ‘but what are you people?’
'We’re peculiar,’ he replied, sounding a bit puzzled. 'Aren’t you?;
'I don’t know. I don’t think so’
'That’s a shame."
