Okay Kaiba, if you’re such an expert on fashion, let’s break down some of your outfits.

Outfit #1

A purple trench coat over a green dress shirt and green pants. Stylin color combination.

Outfit #2

A sleeveless white trench coat (is that even a thing? do they make sleeveless trench coats?) with red lining, a high collar, studs, and pointy shoulder pads. Worn over a black shirt, black pants made of what looks like–what, leather, rubber?

–with a pair of belts tied around each leg, matching belts around each arm, some kind of funky metal bracelets…

…and heels. Guess that explains why his height varies wildly from shot to shot.

Outfit #3

The Best-of-Both-Worlds Trench Coat: even purpler than Trench Coat 1, and with even pointier shoulder pads than Trench Coat 2. Worn over a black turtleneck, with the same bracelet/arm cuff/whatever thingies from outfit #2.

This ensemble shows up a lot in scenes where he’s in his office doing day-to-day Kaiba Corp business.

Maybe he thinks the loafers make it business casual.

In conclusion: nice outifts, dork.

90.04.08. happy birthday to our beloved jonghyun, hope your day is full of joy and happiness

It’s rare to find people who succeed in one shot. also, you don’t necessarily need to succeed in your first try. you will learn something from your failures

Please help me find someone else with my rare conditon

My name is Valerie, I’m a teenager, and I’m chronically ill.

I’ve been sick for a decade now, and unfortunately, I tend to get all the rare and ~special~ disorders. Because of this, I currently have doctors in nine cities spanning across five states. I battle six chronic conditions, and balancing them is a daily struggle, but I’ve managed.

But my newest condition has turned my life upside down. It’s called Recurrent Subacute Thyroiditis (RSAT) and most doctors will never see a case of this in their lifetime. I luckily have found a doctor who has least seen a few cases of this before, but I am the youngest person she has ever seen with this condition.

RSAT is an inflammation of the thyroid that causes overactivity, leading to high heart rates, trouble breathing, low blood pressure, dizziness, chest pains, insomnia, fatigue, hair loss, and muscle weakness. The overactivity lasts for about 2-3 months, and then the thyroid flips to inactivity, leading to lethargy, extreme fatigue, depression, low body temperature, and slow heart rates. The inactivity lasts for 2-3 months, making this a 4-6 month condition. I’m currently in the middle of my second episode, and my first episode was just two years ago.

I am terrified. This condition has caused me to be rushed to the ER twice. This condition has rendered me so dizzy and dropped my blood pressure so low that walking is a hazard and I am in a wheelchair. This condition has prevented me from attending school since the end of October. This condition can occur again, and there is no telling when or how often.

I’ve scoured the web, posted in countless Facebook groups, analyzed research, and even scheduled a conference call with doctors in another country to try to get some answers. Not only is there no information on it, but I can’t find anyone else with it (and due to HIPPA laws, my doctor is not allowed to connect me with the other cases she has seen). I have support from my friends and family, but they cannot even begin to understand what this is like.

I am alone in this right now, but I know the internet is a powerful place. I’ve seen other kids with rare conditions find support and/or answers, and I thought I might as well give it a shot. Please, please - even if you don’t have this condition, even if you don’t know me, please reblog this and spread this around. I just need to know that I’m not alone in this. Even finding one person who has this would make the world of a difference.

Thank you in advance. Those who know me best know I absolutely hate asking for help, but I can’t do this alone anymore.

As you sat on one of the two armchairs in your bedroom, you tucked your leg under the other while your bare feet rested on the edge of the coffee table. You held your tablet in your hands with your earbuds in your ears, watching your favorite show on Netflix.

You had come back from an assignment only a few hours ago and all you wanted to do was have some time for yourself and your boyfriend, Steve. The breaks from work were rare since you had joined the Avengers a year and a half ago, but the good side was you had found a family and a loving boyfriend.

Being with Steve wasn’t easy; sometimes he’d be a workaholic with his light obsession for the orders and rules, which affected your relationship because you couldn’t spend any day together like a normal couple without being interrupted. But, you knew that when you officially became a couple six months ago. When you had joined the team, Steve wasn’t looking for a relationship and neither were you, but being friends with him made you realize that maybe there was something important behind all these harmless conversations in the middle of the night and those loving glances you threw at each other when you were in the same room.

Little by little, you gave yourselves a chance and it worked. You really liked each other and even when no one had said the L word, you knew that Steve cared about you and he would give anything to stay with you. There was an obvious meaningful passion between you two, but you kept things slow as you were willing to build something serious together.

At this late hour of the afternoon, you knew Steve was still debriefing the mission with some of your teammates. He was probably checking his report before he’d join you in your room like you had asked him to. It was very common; he liked to finish everything just to be sure that he wouldn’t be interrupted when he’d be by your sides. You could confess that you liked this side of him and you understood because you’d do the same. It was your job after all.

“Y/N?” You heard the super soldier’s voice behind your door as he knocked softly. That was something you admired in his personality, even if your relationship had already become very intimate, he’d always give you some privacy.

“Come on in,” you chuckled and he closed the door behind him once he had gotten inside. “Hey.” You smiled and he kissed the top of your head tenderly.

“Hi.” Steve sat next to you and appreciated for a second the relaxing message your body gave. “I’m sorry, I’ve been busy… Tony wants to throw another party to celebrate the awaited end our last mission.”

“Why am I not surprised?”

“Well, I wasn’t either,” he laughed and you noticed the way his eyes lingered on your figure. He detailed everything from the way your legs shone with the sun and how adorable you looked with your tablet sitting on your lap as the only earbud you had removed went lying on your chest.

“You mind if I take a photo of you?” He asked and you blinked, unsure. “I want to draw you right now ‘cause I know that when you’re on Netflix, you can’t stay in position.”

“Go ahead.” You smiled and mentally noted how good it felt to finally see him peaceful, having some rest like everyone else. “Like this?” You shifted your weight a little and then moved your legs

“Uh… can you go back to that other position, please?” He looked at you with a hand on his chin and finally stood to take the camera Natasha had offered him. “It was the best angle with the light on your skin.”

"Sure.” You felt the butterflies flying in your stomach and you took back your previous position. “Is it okay now?”

“If you could move your head a bit more on your left.” He zoomed in and you did as you were told. “Yeah, just like that. Thank you, doll.”

After he had resolved some problems with the camera, he eventually held it in front of his eye and captured the smile he had learned to love dearly. As he looked down at the result of his work, he felt his heart beating faster when the same smile he missed when you weren’t around him was showed to him perfectly.

“Am I funny?” He asked, looking up at you through his ridiculously long eyelashes as he heard you giggle.

“I just realized how lucky I am to have you,” you cooed. He came closer to you and leaned to leave a gentle kiss on your lips.

“I fell for you first,” he whispered and you parted your lips to say something before he cut you off. “You know what? I think I have an idea. Wait a minute, I won’t be long!”

“But-” Your desire to protest found no relief as he rushed out of your bedroom. Raising an eyebrow, you tossed the tab on the bed and wondered what he had exactly in mind.

“Here.” Steve walked back inside the room and closed the door. “I’ve found it,” he exclaimed happily with his favorite black marker in hand.

“What are you doing?” You asked as he sat on the chair beside your desk.

“Can I draw on your skin?”

“What?” You scanned his eyes, trying to find some humor inside. “I mean- I… I’m flattered, really, but usually, people draw on papers, you know.”

“I know,” he laughed nervously and shrugged nonchalantly. He would always do this when he was flustered. “Trust me on this one, you’re gonna like it.”

“Uh… all right, I was done with Netflix, anyway. Let’s do this!”

“Come and have a seat.” Steve put a stool in front of his chair and patted the wood. You got comfortable on the furniture as your back faced him and you waited for the next move.

“Take off your shirt, please.” He asked in your ear and you nipped your lower lip between your teeth. You slowly got rid of your favorite material and let it fall at your feet, exposing you in your sports bra.

“Where are you going to draw?”

“Here.” You turned your head to the side as he touched the part of your skin next to the shoulder blade.

Steve kissed your skin slowly, breathing in as if he wanted your scent to intoxicate him. You closed your eyes and a shaky breath slipped through your mouth as his finger roamed over your spine methodically. Your senses tingled your skin as you felt his warm lips trailing light kisses from your shoulder up to the back of your neck.

“Sorry, I wanted to do this first.” By the tone of his voice, you knew he wore this boyish grin on his face.

As a hand encircled your waist, your boyfriend began to move the pen on your skin with all his tenderness. The black marker moved as though it danced slowly on your body. You felt the cold ink giving you sweet chills, contrasting drastically with his smooth and warm hand touching up to your side. As if he knew what went through your mind, Steve leaned to blow some air on the ink and you arched your back unwillingly.

“Stop moving.”

“Your hand is tickling me,” you pointed out and he poked your hip. “Steve!”

“Stay still,” he chuckled and you pressed your lips together. “Have I told you how beautiful you are today?” He asked and you pretended to search your mind.

“I can’t seem to remember.”

“Well, you’re gorgeous, Y/N.”

Your boyfriend remained focused on drawing on your skin another long minute where he strategically altered between sweet nothings and careful caresses. He eventually put the marker down on the desk with a proud smile on his beautiful face and a new excitability.

"Finished!” Steve blew on the fresh ink to dry it and stood up. “You can see it.”

You stood from the stool with an excited beam and Steve took the mirror you always kept in your drawer. As he held it behind your back, showing your shoulder, your head moved over to discover his work.

You gasped silently and brought a hand to your mouth as you took the time to process everything. Steve looked into your eyes with hope each time you read the inscription written on your skin.

I love you… Perfectly written in decorative hand while a small drawing of Captain America’s shield gave this personalized meaning.

“Steve.” You were speechless for a short moment. You thought how ridiculously cute and unexpected from him it was, but you mainly couldn’t contain your feelings anymore.

“So…?” Steve asked, rubbing the back of his neck with a light blush and you turned to face him. You took the mirror from his hands and tipped on your toes. You sealed a  passionate and meaningful kiss on his lips as nothing else mattered at this moment.

“I love you, too.”

YOI Fan Rec Friday

(17/3/17)

Hi everyone! So I got over 100 recommendations this week, so I am not going to be able to put them all here, but I did check out every single recommendation that I got! Thank you!

To narrow down my recommendations for next week, please state that your recommendation is for “Fan Rec Friday!” If you just want to recommend something to me and don’t want it on FRF (Fan Rec Friday), that’s fine too!

This hadn’t been part of the plan. None of this had been part of the plan. Not the kiss, not the public spectacle, and definitely—absolutely, under no circumstances—not the part where he’d fallen in love with Yuri Katsuki.

So, fine, maybe Yuuri’s a little bored and lonely when he likes a dating profile claiming to be Viktor Nikiforov. And, maybe, he’s a little pathetic when he gets excited when the account messages him almost immediately after. And, he’s definitely stupid for falling in love with someone pretending to be his idol, but he can’t help it. It’s not like it’s the real Viktor Nikiforov, anyway. Honorable and soft-hearted Katsuki Yuuri is not particularly good at being a vicious pirate captain. Viktor Nikiforov, decorated top naval officer, is very sure of this fact. Mostly because he is being held both captive and captivated by the other man on his pirate ship, the Hasetsu.

The Curious Case of Yuuri Katsuki by athylia, Not Rated, 19k (WIP)
Viktor understood loneliness, maybe not to the amount that the man who was mourning his dead pokemon, but he knew loneliness like an old friend. Being at the top had its disadvantages. The bespectacled man was somewhat similar to him. That is until, he saw the man giving orders to his precious Makkachin and Makkachin actually obeying him. There might be more to Yuuri Katsuki than he thought.

Andrew Scott deserves everything in the world. He fucking made us love and fell for a psychopath called Moriarty. We felt sorry when Moriarty shot himself in The Reichenbach Fall -although he paid his men to kill Sherl’s best friends!!!-
He’s a talented, great actor but I feel like he’s underrated. Stop it and give him all awards in the world -yes, including Grammy-

Imagine Chris admitting you’re his celebrity crush.

A/N: This is a request from @unstainedlight and it took me forever to get to, I’m so sorry. But here it is, finally! It’s super cute and I’d a lot of fun writing it (as in I giggled a lot) Enjoy! X

You arrived on the ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’ set shortly after your husband, Chris. The two of you came in separate cars because you’d come from your movie set, whereas he came from the hotel you were put up in while working in New York; he wasn’t due to film ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ until May. Both you and Chris had been invited by Jimmy Fallon to do your own respective interviews on your upcoming movies and pending projects, or so the both of you thought. As it turned out, those reasons were just bait given to your publicists to get both of you on his set at the same time without raising suspicion; the man had something cheeky planned.

Jimmy had interviewed Chris numerous times now- one could say that they were friends, so Jimmy knew about Chris’ crush on you. He’d said numerous times now, in most of his interviews, that you were a beautiful actress he admired, with values, morals, and ethics that made him think very highly of you; or in short, that you were his celebrity crush. The thing that Jimmy didn’t know, however, was that they two of you were actually married. You’d met Chris in 2014 while having lunch with your friends, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski. Chris was a good friend of John’s who thought the two of you would hit it off, and you did almost immediately.

After that day, the two of you starting secretly dating under the media’s radar because neither of you wanted the stress that came with having your relationship in the limelight. Both of you had been in the industry for a while now, so you knew what it was like when you started dating someone. The constant scrutiny, the tabloids and the rumors, the analyzing of everything you do and say, the haters and cynics calling the relationship a publicity stunt and waiting for it to blow up- you didn’t want to deal with that. Those were the things that usually ended a Hollywood relationship which was the last thing you and Chris wanted, so things between the two of you were kept under a tight lid.

Your friends and family knew about the relationship, but everyone did as you both asked and kept what they knew to themselves. During your time as boyfriend and girlfriend, you attended all red carpet events alone and took no photos together so you wouldn’t risk revealing your relationship to the world. It was unpractical, difficult, and occasionally lonely, but it worked out. Of course you weren’t going to keep it a secret forever, at some point you were going to want to reveal to the world that you were with the best person you’d ever met; vice versa. You’d both agreed to keep things hush until things were more solidified, and now that the two of you were happily married- the relationship was to be revealed at your movie premiere which was in a week’s time. But perhaps Jimmy’s cheeky little plan to embarrass Chris would move that announcement up.

“Hey stranger,” you called as you caught Chris in your dressing room mirror; he was up first and was walking towards the stage. He poked his head in and shot you a smile which you reciprocated. “Good luck out there, Captain America,” you gave him a two finger salute which made him laugh as he disappeared around the corner with the stage manager.

“Oh my God,” your makeup artist, Arizona, let out the breath she was holding in. “He is so freaking handsome,” she said then chuckled when you laughed. “I’m so glad I’m not the one doing his makeup, I wouldn’t be able to focus.” You said nothing in response as you closed your eyes to let her finish doing your eyeshadow. “Are the two of you friends?”

“I guess,” you shrugged nonchalantly.

“You know you’re his celebrity crush, right?” She was grinning excitedly when you opened your eyes. “As a fan of both you and Chris Evans, I can say that the two of you would make such a great couple.” You had to bite the inside of your cheek to stop from laughing. “You two should really make a movie together, ‘cause that’d be amazing.”

“Yeah,” you nodded in agreement.

“Okay,” she sprayed your face with setting spray then tucked a stray hair in its place. “All done, Y/N. You look amazing as always,” she complimented with a sweet smile. “And as always, it’s been an honor to do your hair and makeup. If you ever need a permanent stylist, I’m your girl.”

“Thanks Arizona,” you smiled then saw the stage director enter the room through the mirror. “And that’s my cue,” you told her and rose to your feet. You followed the stage director towards the stage and watched the TV, waiting for Jimmy to introduce you and bring you out.

“So Chris, I’m not sure if you’ve seen the interview your buddy Sebastian did with James Cordon a while back.” Chris’ eyes narrowed slightly as he pondered; he watched most of the interviews his friends and cast mates did. “The one with his celebrity crush, Sharon Stone.” Jimmy reminded him; Chris laughed and nodded. “Well, taking a page out of Cordon’s book- I thought I’d bring your celebrity crush here tonight so you can have the same opportunity to try and win her over with your charm and good looks.”

“Oh God,” Chris laughed. “This is not going to end well, I can tell already.”

“Let’s give Y/N Y/L/N a hand,” Jimmy called and you walked out right on cue. Chris caught your eye and you both tried hard not to crack even though the smiles you had on your faces were enough to give your big secret away. “C'mon Chris,” Jimmy teased as he rose to his feet, joining the audience in giving you a standing ovation. “Get on your feet, give a good impression.”

“Right, sorry.” Chris jumped onto his feet and clapped for you until you got to his side. “Hi Y/N, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you.” He shook your hand then leaned forward to give your cheek a quick peck. “We’re going to blow this, aren’t we?” He whispered into your ear before pulling away; you subtly nodded in response.

“Hi everyone,” you waved at the audience and they cheered for you. “Oh wow,” you began addressing Jimmy as the three of you took your seats. “It is so good to be back here. How are you, Jimmy?” You asked and he laughed.

“I’m meant to be the interviewer here, Y/N,” he joked and you chuckled. “I’m great, and you look great too. The New York air must agree with you. You’ve been out here for a while now, right?” You nodded. “You’re filming your latest movie which takes place in Manhattan, are you having fun?”

“Crazy fun,” you nodded. “I love New York, it’s where I started my career and where some of my best friends live so- yeah, I’m having a lot of fun. New York’s basically like a third home to me,” you told him; beside you, Chris smiled because he knew you refer to LA- your hometown- as home and Boston- his hometown- as your second home.

“Third home?” Jimmy quizzed. “Isn’t the saying second home?” You nodded, chuckling softly. “Okay then, so if New York is your third home then- where’s your second home? I know LA is your hometown, so that’s number one. What’s number two?”

“Boston,” you answered, trying not to smile too widely as you glanced at Chris; he couldn’t hide his grin. “It’s um- it’s a place close to my heart, a lot of my friends are from Boston- like John Krasinski, and it’s also where I fell in-love actually, with a Bostonian.”

“You’re in-love?” Jimmy looked over at Chris and pressed his lips together. “Aw, that’s a bummer.” Both you and Chris laughed at that. “Here I was thinking I was going to set the two of you up 'cause you know, Chris- Captain America, is not shy about admitting who his celebrity crush is.” You chuckled softly as you nodded. “He’s from Boston too, so if you think he’s better than your current love- it wouldn’t be hard to jump ship. Right, Chris?”

“Well,” Chris winced, trying hard not to crack. “If she’s already in-love with someone else, y'know- I’m not going to interfere with that.” You bit the inside of your cheek, stifling your laughs. “If she were single, of course I’d go for it, but she’s in a relationship, man. I can’t do that to a brother,” he tried not to laugh as he said that.

“Think about this, Y/N,” Jimmy tried to sell your husband to you. “Chris is a fan of yours, he is practically in-love with you already.” You looked over at Chris and he nodded in agreement with Jimmy’s statement, holding a serious face that made you want to laugh. “And c'mon, how great can your current guy be compared to Captain America? I mean- the choice is simple, right? Right, guys?” He asked the audience and they cheered. “The two of you would be the new Brad and Angelina, minus the divorce 'cause you’re Chris’ celebrity crush and I doubt he’d do anything to risk losing you.”

“Oh, definitely not,” Chris agreed and you turned away, laughing. “I’d treasure you for the rest of my life, Y/N.” He took your left hand in his, lifting it into vision but hiding your wedding bands. “I’d love you in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, till death do us part. But I think you already know that from when we exchanged wedding vows,” he said and revealed the wedding bands; everyone gasped, including Jimmy. “Yeah,” Chris began as you both turned to a stunned Jimmy, chuckling. “I didn’t need your help 'cause I already married my celebrity crush.”

“Oh my God,” Jimmy’s jaw dropped. “How- when- are you guys even- Wait, what?” He laughed, bouncing excitedly in his chair. “When did this even happen? I didn’t even know that you guys knew each other, let alone dated! And you’re married? What the fu-” he cut himself off, his smile wide. “That is amazing, wow! Congratulations, you two! Wow!” The audience cheered and clapped when Jimmy did. “This is exclusive right? No one knew before this moment?”

“Our friends and family know,” you told him, chuckling. “But no one else did, so yes. This is an exclusive on your show. I’m married to Chris Evans,” you said and Chris brought your entwined hands to his lips, kissing the back of your hand.

“Yup,” Chris grinned at you then turned to the camera, “I’m married to my celebrity crush.”

Superman Starter Pack

First and most importantly, before we go into petty commercial concerns, let’s remember the meaning of this day. Because friends, this is no ordinary day: this is Miracle Monday, the anniversary of Superman triumphing over no less than the biblical prince of darkness himself (or at least a respectable substitute), and it was so awesome that even though it was expunged from humanity’s collective consciousness, they still instinctively recognized the third Monday of May as a day of good cheer to be celebrated in Superman’s honor from now until the end of time.

I know I write plenty about Superman on here, but with as much as a pain as comics can be to get into, I’m sure at least some of those I’m lucky enough to have follow me haven’t been able to find an easy in for the character. Or maybe a follower-of-a-follower or friend-of-a-friend is looking for a reasonable place to start. So in the spirit of the season, I’ll toss on the (admittedly already pretty massive) pile of recommended starting points on Superman: ten stories in a recommended - but by no means strict - order that should, as a whole, give you a pretty decent idea of what Superman’s deal is and why you should care, all of which you should be able to find pretty easily on Comixology or a local bookstore/comic book shop. I’ll probably do a companion to this in September for Batman Day.

1. Superman: Birthright

What it’s about: It’s his origin. He gets rocketed to Earth from the doomed planet Krypton, he gets raised by farmers, he puts on tights to fight crime, he meets Lois Lane and Lex Luthor, he deals with Kryptonite, all the standard-issue Superman business.

Why you should read it: It does all that stuff better than anyone else. He’s had a few different takes on his origins over the years due to a series of reboots, another of those tellings is even further down the list, but the first major modern one pretty much hit the nail on the head first try. It toes the tricky line of humanizing him without making you forget that hey, he’s Superman, it’s high-action fun without skimping on the character, and if there’s any one story that does the best job of conveying why you should look at an invincible man-god all but beyond sin or death with no major inciting incident in his background as a likable, relatable character, this is it. Add in some of the best Lane and Luthor material out there, and it’s a no-brainer.

Further recommendations if you liked it: About a decade before writing Birthright, its author Mark Waid worked with Alex Ross on what ended up one of DC’s biggest comics ever, Kingdom Come, the story of a brutal near-future of out-of-control superheroes that ultimately narrowed down to being about Superman above all else, and one of his most popular and influential stories of all time at that. Years after Birthright he created Irredeemable, the story of a Superman pastiche named Plutonian gone murderously rogue and how he reached his breaking point, illustrating a lot of what makes Superman special by way of contrast.

(Since Superman’s had so many notable homage/analogue/pastiche/rip-off/whatever-you-want-to-call-it characters compared to other superheroes, often in very good stories, there’ll be a number of those stories on this list.)

2. Superman: Up, Up and Away

What: Ever seen Superman Returns? That, but good. Clark Kent’s been living and loving a normal life as a reporter and husband after a cosmic dust-up in one of DC’s event comics took Superman off the board for a year, but mounting threats demand his return to save Metropolis again, if he still can.

Why: If you’d rather skip the origin, this is as a good a place as you’ll find to jump onboard. Clark and Lois both get some solid characterization, a number of classic villains have solid screentime, there’s some interesting Kryptonian mythology sticking its head in without being too intrusive, a great overarching threat to Metropolis, and it captures how Superman’s powers work in a visceral sense better than almost anything else. If you just want a classic, pick-it-up-and-go Fun Superman Story, this is where to go.

Recommendations: If you liked this, you’ll probably be inclined to enjoy the rest of co-writer Geoff Johns’ run on Action Comics, including most popularly Legion of Superheroes and Brainiac, both with artist Gary Frank. Another series tapping into that classic Superman feeling pretty well - regardless of whether you enjoyed the original show or not - is Smallville: Season 11, showing the adventures of that series’ young Clark Kent once he finally becomes Superman. Currently, Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason’s run on the main Superman title under the banner of DC Rebirth is maintaining that feeling itself, properly introducing Jon Kent, Lois and Clark’s 10-year-old-son, as Superboy in what seems to be a permanent addition to the cast and mythology (though there’s some continuity hiccups there, even as they’re mostly kept to the background - for the first 20 issues Superman is a refugee from a previous continuity, don’t ask).

3. Superman: Secret Identity

What: He’s Clark Kent, an aspiring writer from a farm town in Kansas. Problem is he’s only named after the other guy, an ordinary teenager who’s put up with crap his whole life for being named after a comic book character in an ordinary world. But when he suddenly finds himself far closer to his namesake than he ever would have imagined, it becomes the journey of his life to find how to really be a Superman.

Why: The best ‘realistic’ Superman story by a long shot, this doesn’t sideline its heart in favor of pseudo-science justifications for what he can do, or the sociopolitical impact of his existence. He has the powers, he wears the costume to save people (though he never directly reveals himself to the world), and in-between he lives his life and learns what it means to be a good man. It’s quiet and sweet and deeply human, and probably one of the two or three best Superman comics period.

Recommendations: Superman: American Alien is probably as close as there’s been to taking this kind of approach to the ‘real’ Superman, showing seemingly minor and unconnected snippets from his life, from childhood to his early days in the costume, and how they unconsciously shaped him into the man he becomes. If you like the low-key, pastoral aesthetic, you might enjoy Superman for All Seasons, or the current title Supergirl: Being Super. If you’d like more of writer Kurt Busiek’s work, his much-beloved series Astro City - focusing on a different perspective in the superhero-stuffed metropolis in every story - opens with A Dream of Flying, set from the point of view of the Superman-like Samaritan, telling of his quiet sorrow of never being to fly simply for its own sake in a world of dangers demanding his attention.

4. Of Thee I Sing

What: Gotham hitman Tommy Monaghan heads to the roof of Noonan’s bar for a smoke. Superman happens to be there at the time. They talk.

Why: A lot of people call this the best Superman story of the 90s, and they’re not wrong. Writer Garth Ennis doesn’t make any bones about hating the superhero genre in general (as evidenced by their treatment in the rest of Hitman), but he has a sincere soft spot for Superman as an ideal of what we - and specifically Americans - are supposed to be, and he pours it all out here in a story of what it means for Superman to fail, and why he remains Superman regardless. It sells the idea that an unrepentant killer - even one only targeting ‘bad guys’ like Tommy - would unabashedly consider Superman his hero, and that’s no small feat.

Recommendations: If you read Hitman #34 and love it but don’t intend to check out the rest of the series (why? It’s amazing), go ahead and read JLA/Hitman, a coda to the book showing the one time Tommy got caught up in the Justice League’s orbit, and what happens when Superman learns the truth about his profession, culminating in a scene that sums up What Superman Is All About better than maybe any other story. If you appreciated the idea of a classically decent Superman in an indecent world, you might enjoy Al Ewing’s novel Gods of Manhattan (the middle of a loose pulp adventure trilogy with El Sombra and Pax Omega, which I’ve discussed in the past), starring Doc Savage and Superman analogue Doc Thunder warring with a fascistic new vigilante in a far different New York City.

5. Superman: Camelot Falls

What: On top of a number of other threats hitting Superman from all sides, he receives a prophecy from the wizard Arion, warning of a devastating future when mankind is faced with its ultimate threat; a threat it will be too weak to overcome due to Superman’s protection over the years, but will still only just barely survive without him. Will he abandon humanity to a new age of darkness, or try and fight fate to save them knowing it could lead to their ultimate extinction?

Why: From the writer of Secret Identity and co-writer of Up, Up and Away!, this is probably the best crack at the often-attempted “Would having Superman be around actually be a good thing for humanity in the long term?” story. Beyond having the courtesy of wrapping that idea up in a really solid adventure rather than having everyone solemnly ruminate for the better part of a year, it comes at it from an angle that doesn’t feel like cheating either logically or in terms of the characters, and it’s an extremely underrated gem.

Recommendations: For the same idea tackled in a very different way, there’s the much better-known Superman: Red Son, showing the hero he would have become growing up in the Soviet Union rather than the United States; going after similar ideas is the heartfelt Superman: Peace on Earth. The rest of Kurt Busiek’s time on the main Superman title was great too, even if this stood easily as the centerpiece; his other trades were Back In Action, Redemption, The Third Kryptonian, and Shadows Linger. Speaking of underrated gems, Gail Simone’s run on Action Comics from around the same time with John Byrne was also great, collected in Strange Attractors. And since the story opens with an excellent one-shot centered around his marriage to Lois, I have to recommend From Krypton With Love if you can track it down in Superman 80-Page Giant #2, and Thom Zahler’s fun Lois-and-Clark style webcomic Love and Capes.

6. Superman Adventures

What: A spinoff of Superman: The Animated Series, this quietly chugged along throughout the latter half of the 90s as the best of the Superman books at the time.

Why: Much as stories defining his character and world are important, the bread and butter of Superman is just regular old fun comics, and there’s no better place to go than here for fans of any and all ages. Almost all of its 66 issues were at least pretty fun, but by far most notable were two runs in particular - Scott McCloud, the guy who would go on to literally write the book on the entire medium in Understanding Comics, handled the first year, and Mark Millar prior to his breakout success wrote a number of incredibly charming and sincere Superman stories here, including arguably the best Luthor story in How Much Can One Man Hate?, and a full comic on every page in 22 Stories In A Single Bound.

Recommendations: Superman has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to runs of just plain fun comics. For the youngest in your family, Superman Family Adventures might just be what you’re looking for. Supergirl: Cosmic Adventures in the Eighth Grade would fit on your shelf very well next to Superman Adventures. Superman: Secret Origin, while not the absolute best take on his early days, has some real charm and would be an ideal introduction for younger readers that won’t talk down to them in the slightest, and that you’ll probably like yourself (especially since it seems to be the ‘canon’ Superman origin again). If you’re interested in something retro, The Superman Chronicles cover his earliest stories from the 30s and 40s, and Showcase Presents: Superman collects many of his most classic adventures from the height of his popularity in the 50s and 60s. Age of the Sentry and Alan Moore’s Supreme would also work well. For slightly older kids (i.e. middle school), they might get a kick out of Mark Millar and Lenil Yu’s Superior, or What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way? And finally, for just plain fun Superman runs, I can’t ignore the last year of Joe Casey’s much-overlooked time on The Adventures of Superman.

7. Superman vs. Lex Luthor

What: Exactly what it says on the tin: a collection of 12 Luthor stories from his first appearance to the early 21st century.

Why: Well, he’s Superman’s biggest enemy, that’s why, and even on his own is one of the best villains of all time. Thankfully, this is an exceptionally well-curated collection of his greatest hits; pouring through this should give you more than a good idea of what makes him tick.

Recommendations: While he has a number of great showings in Superman-centric comics, his two biggest solo acts outside of this would be Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo’s Luthor (originally titled Lex Luthor: Man of Steel) and Paul Cornell’s run on Action Comics, where Lex took over the book for about a year. Also, one of Superman’s best writers, Elliot S! Maggin, contributed a few stories here - he’s best known for his brilliant Superman novels Last Son of Krypton and the aforementioned Miracle Monday, and he wrote a number of other great tales I picked some highlights from in another article.

8. Grant Morrison’s Action Comics

What: Spanning years, it begins in a different version of Superman’s early days, where an as-yet-flightless Clark Kent in a t-shirt and jeans challenged corrupt politicians, grappling with the public’s reaction to its first superhero even as his first true menace approaches from the stars. Showing his growth over time into the hero he becomes, he slowly realizes that his life has been subtly influenced by an unseen but all-powerful threat, one that in the climax will set Superman’s greatest enemies’ against him in a battle not just for his life, but for all of reality.

Why: The New 52 period for Superman was a controversial one at best, and I’d be the last to deny it went down ill-advised roads and made outright bone-stupid decisions. But I hope if nothing else this run is evaluated in the long run the way it deserves; while the first arc is framed as something of a Superman origin story, it becomes clear quickly that this is about his life as a whole, and his journey from a cocksure young champion of the oppressed in way over his head, to a self-questioning godling unsure of the limits of his responsibilities as his powers increase, and finally an assured, unstoppable Superman fighting on the grandest cosmic scale possible against the same old bullies. It gives him a true character arc without undermining his essential Superman-ness, and by the end it’s a contender for the title of the biggest Superman story of all.

Recommendations: Outside of this, Greg Pak’s runs on Action Comics and Batman/Superman, and Tom Taylor/Robson Rocha’s 3-issue Batman/Superman stint, as well as Scott Snyder, Jim Lee and Dustin Nguyen’s blockbuster mini Superman Unchained, are the best of the New 52 era. If you’re looking for more wild cosmic Superman adventure stories, Grant Morrison’s Superman Beyond is a beautiful two-part adventure (it ties in to his event comic Final Crisis but largely works standalone), and Joe Casey’s Mr. Majestic was a largely great set of often trippy cosmic-scale adventure comics with its Superman-esque lead. For something a little more gonzo, maybe try the hilariously bizarre Coming of the Supermen by Neal Adams. And while his role in it is relatively minor, if we’re talking cosmic Superman-related epics, Jack Kirby’s Fourth World has to be mentioned - it’ll soon be reissued in omnibus format to coincide with the Justice League movie, since many of its concepts made it in there.

9. Superman: Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?

What: More than just the title story, DC issued a collection of all three of Watchmen writer Alan Moore’s Superman stories: For The Man Who Has Everything, where Superman finds himself trapped in his idea of his ideal life while Batman, Wonder Woman and Robin are in deadly danger in the real world, Jungle Line, where a deliriously ill and seemingly terminal Superman finds help in the most unexpected place, and Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?, Moore’s version of the final Superman story.

Why: Dark Superman stories are a tricky tightrope to walk - go too far and you invalidate the core his world is built around - but Moore’s pretty dang good at his job. Whatever Happened you should wait to read until you’ve checked out some Superman stories from the 1960s first since it’s very much meant as a contrast to those, but For The Man Who Has Everything is an interesting look at Superman’s basic alienation (especially in regards to his characterization in that period of his publication history) with a gangbuster final fight, and Jungle Line is a phenomenal Superman horror story that uncovers some of his rawest, most deeply buried fears.

Recommendations: There are precious few other dark Superman stories that can be considered any real successes outside a few mentioned among other recommendations; the closest I can think of is Superman: For Tomorrow, which poses some interesting questions framed by gorgeous art, but has a reach tremendously exceeding its grasp. Among similar characters though, there are some real winners; Moore’s own time on Miracleman was one of the first and still one of the most effective looks at what it would mean for a Superman-like being to exist in the real world, and the seminal novel Superfolks, while in many ways of its time, was tremendously and deservedly influential on generations of creators. Moore had another crack at the end of a Superman-like figure in his Majestic one-shot, and the Change or Die arc of Warren Ellis’ run on Stormwatch (all of which is worth reading) presented a powerful, bittersweet look at a superman’s attempt at truly changing the world for the better.

10. All-Star Superman

What: Superman rescues the first manned mission to the sun, sabotaged by Lex Luthor. His powers have reached greater heights than ever from the solar overexposure, but it’s more than his cells can handle: he’s dying, and Lex has won at last. This is what Superman does with his last year of life.

Why: I put this at the bottom since it works better the more you like Superman, but if you’re only going to read one story on this list, this one has to be it. It’s one of the best superhero stories period, and it’s everything that’s wistful and playful and sad and magical and wonderful about Superman in one book.

Recommendations: If you’re interested in the other great “Death of Superman” story, skip the 90s book and go to co-creator Jerry Siegel and Curt Swan’s 60s ‘Imaginary Story’, also one of the best Superman stories ever, and particularly one of Luthor’s best showings. If you got a kick out of the utopian ‘Superman fixes everything’ feel of a lot of it, try The Amazing Story of Superman-Red and Superman-Blue! The current Supergirl title by Steve Orlando seems to be trying to operate on a pretty similar wavelength, and is definitely the best thing coming out of the Superman family of books right now. The recent Adventures of Superman anthology series has a number of creators try and do their own ‘definitive’ Superman stories, often to great results. And Avengers 34.1 starring Hyperion by Al Ewing and Dale Keown taps into All-Star’s sense of an elevated alien perspective paired with a deep well of humanity to different but still moving results.

hey if you're still doing prompts, the time(s) someone outside of the team (or inside) mistakes aaron for andrew or the other way around?? thanks!! i love your writing!!

There should be some sort of rule, Aaron thinks, that identical twins have to avoid celebrity.

It was disarming enough to be a teenager the first time he saw his own face with nothing inside of it, like an indifferent stone likeness. Then Andrew went and got himself famous, made himself important to everyone (including Aaron). He stares out from magazine spreads with his middle finger up when Aaron goes through the checkout counter, and he follows him closely with his reputation.

He’s had patients bow out of the exam room when they heard their intern was ‘A. Minyard’. He’s had anger and relief flip toggles in his chest when he caved and bought a magazine, finding Andrew and Neil piled in Exy gear to promote a product. They looked uncommitted and severe except when they were jostled together and shot from the side, candid, staring.

It almost makes him miss the moments with the foxes when everything was as simple as watching Andrew’s face for the changes and catching the wave to the next game.

But it’s better to have the kind of work that he knows he does best, stockpiled for the rest of medical school and the rest of his life after that. It feels good to stretch on rubber gloves and distance himself from the worst sort of rot in the world.

It feels good for his feet to throb and his head to twist itself into knots, and to come home to Katelyn, who always tries to wait up for him and never can. She passes out with her legs over the armrest of their secondhand couch and her hair fanned over the cushions. He kisses her awake more often than not.

He goes for runs, sometimes, like he never did in college. It’s when his own reflection makes his neck prickle and he thinks, god, he’s here. He’s never not here. If you’re a twin you’re a member of a club, and you’re constantly in uniform.

He gets stopped on the street and asked for his autograph, and he feels comforted to know that his “piss off” is gentler than whatever Andrew would have said.

He sees his own face hoisted at pride, watches Andrew become half of a relationship that handcuffs exy to entire social movements, and it coaxes old fear into his blood. It takes some wrangling and undoing of rusted closed spigots before he realizes that he’s impressed, too.

He hates Neil out of habit. He watches the sun make new colours with Katelyn’s hair at 5 am. He puts his alarm on snooze just so he can lie there with her. He likes that his life is a can on a string, and somewhere, tossed out into another state, in a high-rise with blackout curtains and an orange cat, Andrew has the other can.

In their first lives, Victor and Yuuri fall in love. They are destined to fall in love no matter how many times they meet in other lifetimes. This is the story of how Victor and Yuuri race through the cosmos to fall back into each other’s arms, eventually. This is the story of their never-ending love tale. A little fluffy, a little angsty. Great fic!

Again and Again by grayclouds, 2.2k
In most of Yuuri’s cycles, love comes slowly.Quicker with Victor, if he’s there. very cute, lovely one-shot!

Viktor’s expression turned stoic, as cold as it always seemed to be. “You think I don’t run that scenario through my mind a thousand times a day? I don’t want to kill him again!” The world couldn’t survive another spout of winter’s grief. They had to get this right. Thumbs up!

I Swear I’ll Find You by anglmukhii, Teen, 3.2k
Victor and Yuuri’s previous life ended in tragedy, with a promise to find each other again. Just because it ended tragically there, it doesn’t mean that it has to in this life… Nice fix-it fic!

Fifty and One More by LazyPotatoo, Teen, 5.4k (WIP)
Yuuri’s has lived and died and been reincarnated over fifty times, and in each one, he’s met Victor. Not all of them they’ve been in love. Some of them they only met briefly, some of them they were different genders, some of them they were friends, some they were enemies. But every time they meet, they’ve never remembered their past lives - until now. WOW!

Always Find You by ironicbird, Teen, 27k (WIP) **Major character death, graphic depictions of violence
Yuuri doesn’t remember their past lives, but Viktor does. He remembers all six of them. They have been everything from soldiers to scientists to figure skaters. They always manage to find each other one way or another, but no matter how hard they try, they never seem to get their happy ending. Could this one finally be it? This is really good!

love me do: a victuuri week compilation (chapter 5) by thankyouforexisting, Teen, 5.7k
Yuuri doesn’t know how long they stay there, frozen in that moment, how long he thinks about the things he wants to say to Victor, the things he wants to say - not now, but in time, as he grows to know him better. How long he thinks about the fact that he truly wants to know him better, that he’s letting his soul be touched by someone for the first time in years.
He doesn’t know how long they stay there, a knight and a mage - the unlikeliest of companions - but he does know he never looks away. Awesome one-shot!

Bestseller by yaboykatsudon, Teen, 4.6k (WIP) **Major character death
Bestselling author Yuuri Katsuki often gets asked where his source of inspiration for his novel series comes from. Yuuri always puts on his best smile and gives the generic answer. However, his minds wanders back to the old journal sitting on his desk, and the dreams of a familiar blue-eyed stranger. Great WIP so far!

A Certain End by fishydwarrows, Teen, 2k **Major character death
Yuuri lives many lives at once and alone.
He is kept in Heart Mountain during the Second World War.
Yet he is also the son of a Daimyō in Owari.
Then, he is training to be a shinshoku in Myojin.
But, he also works as a banker in Manchester.
He trades with the Portuguese in Tanegashima.
And trains for the Worlds in Hasetsu.
Many lives, the same name, the same face.
The same heartache.

Being pregnant with Chris Evans' baby:

Some parts of the pregnancy are slightly exaggerated to give more humor.

• It’s no secret, Chris has said many times he wants to be a dad and he’s looking forward to it. So, when you stand in the bathroom with the positive tests in hands, you really aren’t stressed about telling him. You’re quite excited to see his face because you love kids too.
• When you tell him you’re pregnant, he looks at you with wide eyes because he has no idea how to react: he’s probably thinking of how much he wants to kiss you for the rest of his life or asking you to marry him all over again, or even make another baby right now!
• Though, it’s not long before he reacts when he sees the five pregnancy tests. He laughs so happily as he spoons you in his arms that you can’t help but giggle and he keeps telling you he loves you so much.
• He can’t even stop kissing you or your tummy.
• The first days after the announcement, he keeps giggling with you and asks himself if it’s a dream or not. He also tries not to freak out and get nervous.
• Your families are overly happy to hear the news.
• His mother cries at this moment because her baby boy will have his own baby.
• Chris worries about his ability to be a good father, but you kiss his insecurities away and tell him he is a great father already because he wants to be a dad for so long and that’s also something he gotta learn with time and with you.
• He takes care of you all day. Every day.
• You can wake him up at 2 in the morning to eat your favorite meal.
• You both eat Starbust’s jelly beans right after.
• Chris plans your baby’s first trip to Disney World secretly. He buys everything he needs to make sure they will love everything related to Disney!
• He is unsurprisingly protective.
• Chris grins like an idiot for hours whenever he hears the heartbeat of your baby and when he feels their very first kicks.
• - “Stop carrying me everywhere, Chris. I can walk. I’m pregnant, not sick.”
  - “I know, but I don’t want you to take a risk.”
• Chris is here for you every step of the way and assures you he loves this baby and you more than anything else.
• He realizes that marrying was the best choice he made you when your hormones are going wild.
• One day, you catch him purchasing some Patriots baby gift sets and clothing. You basically have to stop him before he can buy everything related to his favorite team in the NFL store.
• He’s still currently trying to find a Tom Brady bodysuit with “Baby Evans” flocked at the back.
• You call your mother every time something new happens during your pregnancy and when she says everything is fine, Chris calls Lisa to double check.
  - “Did you seriously call your mum?”
  - “Sweetheart, it’s just to be sure.”
• Chris smiles every time you say you look too big, but he thinks you are gorgeous as ever with this baby bump. Because you carry life, so nothing is more beautiful.
  - “Chris, why are you even staying with me? I look like a potato.”
  - “You are perfect and this the most beautiful moment of our lives. It’s our baby inside.”
  - “Okay, I trust you this time. But only because you’ve also gained weight.”
  - “That’s my gi… Wait, what?!”
• Chris sings Disney songs every night to your baby before sleeping. Let’s be honest, he does this all the time.
• He wants to have a boy first just to teach him how to prank you in the future.

Bonus:
• He is in-between a mix of stress and joy when you go into labor. He’s there for you, though.
• You almost crush the bones of his hand when you push.
  - “Never again! I will never let you touch me ever again, Evans! Heard me?!”
  - “Don’t exaggerate, it’s- OUCH!”
  - “Please, Mrs. Evans, stop threatening your husband. You have to push!”
• Chris cries and smiles when he holds your baby for the first time.

Can’t Stay Best Friends || Jughead J.

31. “Why do you keep pushing me away?”

Requested by anon

I was determined. Determined to find out why Jughead had ignored me all summer after Jason’s disappearance. And I wasn’t just that, he’d still ignored me when we got back from summer break, and it was already the second week of school.

I was pissed and determined as I did a speed walk down the hallway, and people got that I was angry and ready to fight, they cleared a path as I made my dissent to Jughead’s locker.

Him and his locker finally came in my line of sight, and it seemed like my legs couldn’t move fast enough without breaking into a sprint. I stopped behind his locker door, burning imaginary holes through it, and crossed my arms over my chest. Jughead closed his locker door, as the door gave away my position, he seen me and jumped.

Shit Y/N.”

“Shit is right, and you’re deep in it.” I watched as his Adam’s apple bobbed up and down as he swallowed, fear clearly in his features at the sight of my rage.

“Look -”

“Why did you ignore me the rest of the summer and you still are.” I asked, taking a step closer to him. He was having an internal debate with himself whether or he should tell me. “You better tell me what the fuck it is.”

He sighed, grabbed my arm, and pulled me into an empty room, closing the door behind him.

“Why Jughead.”

“Because I’ve been writing a book about Jason’s disappearance and death.” He admitted.

“You’ve ignored me over a book?” He looked me in the eyes.

“Yeah,” He didn’t seem too sure about his confession, but I sighed in defeat wanting my best friend. “I’m really sorry Y/N, it was a dick move.”

“Damn right, but I forgive you, I guess.” A huge grin spread across his face. “But you better not do this to me again.” I threatened, pointing a finger at him.

“Okay, okay. What do you say to Pop’s after school?” He asked, a hopeful look in his eyes.

“Alright, but we need to get to class, we’re late.”

“When did you start caring about if you made it to class on time?” He asked as we left the room, out into the empty hallway.

“After my ass got chewed out by my mother when she seen the amount of tardies I had.” He laughed.

“Yeah, your mom can get pretty scary when she’s pissed.”

“Yeah, I guess it runs in the family.” I smirk, remembering his reaction to when I showed up.

“I guess so.”

***

“Okay, so this book you’re writing about this summer, what’s it like?” I asked as he typed away.

“What do you mean?” He stopped typing, and looked up at me after his laptop.

“I mean, is it fiction, non fiction, what genre is it?” I swirled my tea around with my straw as I asked.

“It’s non-fiction, more like a journal give or take.” He said, then continued typing.

“Oh,” I let go of the straw, laying my arms down on top of each other on the table, watching Jughead type. As he typed, worry etched his features, I lay my hand down lightly on one of his, stopping him from typing. He pulled his hand out of my reach. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah,” He then went back to typing away.

“What’s wrong with you? Why do you keep pushing me away? Did something bad happen over the summer, besides Jason?” I asked, my voice raising in pitch, show how upset I was.

He let out a sigh and shut his laptop, looking me straight in the eyes. “Nothing is wrong.”

“Bullshit, I can see the bags under your eyes, and your closed off, more than you usually are.” He sighed looking away from me. “I want to help Jug, please let me help.” I laid my hand on his arm, trying to get his full attention on me. He looked down at my hand, a longing look in his eyes.

“I know that it hurt you when I stopped talking to you, but it hurt me too. It hurt me because I knew I was hurting you.” I stayed quiet, letting him explain himself, even though I wanted to blow up on him. “I spent the summer trying to get rid of these feelings I had, and I thought that pushing you away would get rid of them.” He looked up at me.

“What do you me-” He cut me off.

“I like you, Y/N.” He rushed out, then grabbed my hand that was on his arm. “I’ve liked you for a long time, and knew you don’t like me back, that’s why I’ve been pushing you away. I’ve been trying to get rid of those feelings, but none of it is working.” Before he can say anything more, I get up, leaning over the table, and kissed him on the cheek.

He was speechless as I flopped back down into the booth, his mouth opened and closed, trying to form words. “I like you too. I’ve actually known you liked me, I was just waiting for you to say something.” I said, smiling as a blush rose to his face. “Now, why don’t you order me a milkshake?” He laughed, as if he couldn’t believe this was happening.

“Okay,” He called over a waitress and ordered my favorite milkshake and ordered himself a burger.

I’m finally got my best friend back and got him to admit his feelings for me, I was possibly the happiest person in the world at that moment.

Brigitte Nielsen did some makeup/costume test shots for an unmade She-Hulk film in the late 1980s, when Marvel was bought by New World Studios.

New World Studios, best known as the guys who brought Godzilla to the US thanks to funding from Dr. Pepper product placement, bought Marvel in late 1980s…and it’s believed they did it by accident. Their attempts to bring the Marvel characters to screen were far from successful. As a critic once said, “shockingly, the company built by a soda-swilling lizard who bought Marvel by accident didn’t know what they were doing.”
