the best of abba

You’re a good student. You’ll make it - I promise you, you’ll make it. You get better grades than I did. It’s going to be fine. It’s going to be fine.

Guys remember that when Magnus tried to think positive and see from the bright side he automaticly thought of what Samirah would’ve told him

Like if that isn’t friendship at its purest idk what is

let’s be real bossuet is. the cheesiest most loving boyfriend ever and he always does everything he can to show how much he loves his partners, often without putting much more thought into it than “this’ll make them really happy!!” he buys flowers for chetta on his way home, cheerily does all the chores when joly is having a bad day, bakes (because this boy is amazing at baking, but not cooking real food) a batch of cakes because he had a spare afternoon and knows his partners love coming home to the smell of baking. every single morning when joly gets up to go to work he sleepily mumbles about how much colder the bed is without them, and how amazing it is to sleep next to them and cuddle them and how he hopes they have the best day ever. he plays abba when he’s home and pulls chetta into a dance when she comes in so they’re smiling and singing along and spinning around the room (that’s how chetta’s mother’s vase was broken, but it’s not especially tragic) and kissing. his instagram is 90% photos of joly and chetta cuddling or giggling together or selfies with them and the captions are always a paragraph long. he’s just. really soft and happy and in love .

  • magnus fills the entire apartment with plants, to the point where you literally can’t navigate around them. any guest gets ‘watch the plant!’ shouted at them approximately nine hundred times bc the last time his aloe vera was knocked onto the ground magnus was devastated for a week
  • samirah still lives at home but she’s at the apartment so often they forget she doesn’t live there too. she gets them in trouble for throwing paper airplanes off the roof and alex stomps around shouting that ‘she doesn’t even go here!’
  • if you’ve ever shared a space with an art student you know that any attempt at cleanliness is a dream. alex has smudged every known surface in the apartment with clay. magnus laments the amount of times he’s found clay in his hair.
  • hearthstone is in the particular hell called ‘being in love with your best friend and also living with him’. it’s the worst kept secret to everyone but blitzen. this means that magnus, alex, and samirah are constantly making encouraging comments, winking over breakfast in blitzen’s direction, and trying to lock them in closets.
  • if they can’t sleep, they can at least be guaranteed some company bc blitzen is always awake at night, still working. alex sits on his bed, painting her toe nails (pink and green) while describing modern art history at 3 am. magnus drags his comforter across the hall and lies on blitzen’s floor, listening to his sewing machine until blitzen trips over him on the way to the bathroom bc he forgot he was there. if hearth can’t sleep, blitz stops working and sits on the couch with him, watching terrible movies and trying to still his racing heart at his best friend’s proximity.

Shamsuddeen Muhammad Bin Abee Bakr Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawzeeyyah [D. 751 A.H.] [رحمه الله] said:

“Whoever firmly establishes Tawheed in his heart, then its delight appears upon the rest of the person’s limbs and the tree of Tawheed produces the best of fruits.”

Since Abba point-blank refused to co-operate for photos today, have Dakota instead.

Abba and I had a half hour schooling session in the ring, in which I remembered how to ride, she remembered how to stay in the ring and keep trotting at a steady rhythm, and we both remembered how to jump. All this with lorries and diggers excavating more water catchments just on the other side of the reservoir.

It was a satisfactory ride, nothing remarkable about it one way or the other. As always, Abba found the jumping the best part of it all, and since she felt so happy over our first decent-sized fence I pointed her at a narrow cross rail she’d had trouble with before and she bounced over that too.

The video camera was alas at the wrong angle and too far away to be of much use, but it will take me a few more rides to get back into the swing of jumping correctly, I think. My lower leg could have been more stable, and whilst I wasn’t jumping ahead, I need to remember to keep my shoulders more open.

After Abba had been put away, Dakota brought herself over to the gate, and we had a successful walk, the longest she’s been on. She stood quietly to allow me onto her left side to halter her, and although she’s not leading correctly yet, she gave me more room, and is starting to learn to follow a feel of sorts on the rope.

She also met her first piece of Ground That Is A Different Colour From The Ground Immediately Around It, where some lorry had accidentally shed a fine layer of concrete over the dirt road and mouldering hay piles. This was scary, so I jumped up and down on it, Snowflake rolled on it, and eventually Dakota plucked up the courage to step onto it herself. She also had to deal with her first ever water tanks, and whilst she snorted and boggled at them, she was as brave as ever, not pulling back, just holding her ground.

I decided to take her back home after she had stared at the tanks for a little, and she was very good for her at the gate. I only had to ask her to step back three times, she did not crowd, nor paw in frustration, and we achieved a milestone today in that I could take her halter off without protected contact. I’m glad that I have so much time to work with her, and to give her multiple days off in between sessions. It keeps it all low stress, and the fact that she only is trained when she solicits it I think helps.

Hopefully our next lesson will involve taking her down to the lunge ring and teaching her the basics of lungeing in there, in the hope that she will translate that into leading on by when haltered. She’s so naïve and knows so little, but is so big and pushy that I think letting her figure it out at liberty at first will be safer and easier for us both than trying to get her to go on by with some kind of head constraint, as she thinks she should either come in or go backwards, rather than go out and forward. And once she’s figured out how to lead from the ground, I will see about ponying her from Abba. Got to keep that active young mind entertained.
