This issue is a big thing I have seen on the Internet and I have commented on before, but it really saddens me to see how obvious it has become with the release of Hiveswap. Nowadays, a new Big Thing pops up, the Fandom starts getting big, and people enjoy it and praise it to high heaven. Then, suddenly, the Fandom gets so big you see it constantly around, so people not interested in it grow to resent it.
Then, as with everything unpopular, a toxic side of the Fandom begins to take root, and people who genuinely enjoyed it start to see the ‘bad’ of the content they enjoyed, and bandwagon with the people that didn’t have any interest to begin with. This collective of people bashing the new Big Thing will group up the young and harmless part of the Fandom that’s just too ‘cringey’ for their tastes and the Bad Side of the Fandom as if they were the same thing, and act as if it’s the only thing that exists about it.
Suddenly the Big Thing is popular because it’s popular to bash on it and hate on it, which discourages the Good Side of the Fandom and only strengthens the Bad Side, while drawing more people to this collective bashing on it, until the Fandom has been reduced to a shadow of its former glory and all there’s left is Memes about ‘how bad this Fandom was’. Then, if someone still stuck through and enjoys the content, is seen as some sort of ancient, long lost nerd, everyone else has moved on to new Media, but they stuck with this AWFUL thing that used to be Big? Lol, how funny, how dumb!
And yet people keep coming back to ‘Classics’, games, books, movies, that were made 10, 20, 30 years ago, and put them as the pinnacle of EVERYTHING and if you haven’t seen it you’re like, committing a god damn crime.
People on the Internet act like there’s absolutely no piece of media that can last for longer than a few months at best, and are quick to abandon the boat when toxicity starts to show up instead of, you know, FIGHTING back against the awful people and drawing the line? Some will argue we just live in a time where popularity is fleeting, but if you ask someone what their favorite game is, and it was produced less than 3 years ago, they will be looked at like they’re some sort of monster.
Internet Culture right now doesn’t want to consider anything as something that could be relevant or a ‘Classic’ in a few years, even when for some people they may be as good or better than things they consider a ‘Classic’ or a ‘Staple’ of something. And inadvertently or not, they will look for any excuse to bash down and insult actually good things and things that have had a good impact on people based on an old side of the Fandom that may not even exist anymore. Ruining it for potential newcomers, shaming old fans.
Grow up, ignore things you don’t enjoy, and let people enjoy whatever they want as long as they aren’t being dicks about it. And when they’re being dicks about it? Then call them out. Don’t just go like “LUL THE FANDOM IS TOXIC”. Address the issues. Make the Fandom a better place. Otherwise you’re contributing to the problem more than a bunch of toxic assholes ever could.
there’s no point in saying “popular youtubers playing hiveswap will ruin homestuck bluh bluh!!!”
every fandom receive news members, homestuck is the same, but how this webcomic are kind dead for a long time theirs fan now a adults, we don’t have new fans in a long time. if homestuck had continued being famous so kids will appeared everyday in the fandom.
try to see the youtubers playing hiveswap as an opportunity for the homestuck fandom to grow up, more people, more content, dark sides, good headcanons, bad fans, good fans, every fandom have these.
so, instead of being like “cringe are ruining homestuck!” be more like “Kids are welcome”, embrace the new fans and go do something else tan being worried by silly things.
You've mentioned that you had a relationship with your drill sergeant. Was that legal? How do you feel about it in retrospect? Feel free to ignore this ask if this is too personal! I'm just curious is all.
It depends on what part of the relationship we are talking about haha
Im still an army but i feel like given how they've really ballooned up and along with it a suddenly very chaotic fandom (esp the recent wale/nj collab) im one of the fans that are starting to feel like i cant really relate to them anymore. I feel a bit bad but at the same time i feel like i don't really owe them anything at all. Im at a loss about how to feel
hm well. a lot of people are saying that bts feel distant and that the fandom is a mess but i think it all comes down to those people’s selfishness. they just don’t want to share. sorry if i sound too harsh but!! i actually felt uneasy about their skyrocketing popularity at first too. although later i realized that i was just being selfish, i knew the fandom would just keep getting more chaotic the more it grew and the boys would just keep becoming more unreachable, and i was sulking because of that. but were they even reachable in the first place?? nope. i don’t even have a chance of going to their concert it’s as unreachable as it can get lmao it never stopped me before why should it stop me now? some people in the fandom create drama but that’s just how it is when there’s a lot of people. it makes chill armys more valuable!! to make the good side of the fandom outshine the bad. we have a lot of talented and smart and generous people in the fandom, they’re just not as in-your-face as the other side
i can’t tell you how you should or shouldn’t feel but you’re right, you don’t owe them anything. neither do they. but they still use every opportunity to thank armys and tell how much they love us
Not all Olicity shippers hate Laurel or Katie. So please, be mad at people disrespecting Katie but don’t blame the entire fandom, don’t call the entire fandom horrible things for something a few vocalised people think.
As a fan of both Laurel and Felicity this stresses me out so bad. Can people not just be respectful on both sides??
I really don't mean to start anything so I'm sorry In advance. I understand that you love reign and all but saying that he's a good person is kind of.... Delusional in a way. Ignoring Reigens bad side is something the fandom just loves to do. He is a felon and committed some serious crimes, used a child for money, lies to costumers and so on. He is not that good???? I don't get it???? It's pretty I easy to prove that he's kind of an ass. Like he did okay things at times but.... Come on everyone
Woah, hold the fuck up anon. YOU COME INTO MY HOUSE?
I really don’t mean to start anything so I’m sorry In advance.”
Too late. YOU STARTED THIS. ((LONG POST INCOMING ))
He is a felon and committed some serious crimes, used a child for money,
lies to costumers
and so on.
So, Mob goes to Reigen, thinking he’s a psychic, looking for someone to help him with his powers, right. Reigen, clearly was skeptical about it, but he never denies Mob, and he lets Mob come to him everyday.
“Oh he’s just using Mob!”
Ah yes, I haven’t this a million times before.
Okay. Look you. Reigen could have easily turned Mob away, but he doesn’t, so Mob ends up working for him. Mob ends up learning from Reigen “Never use your powers on people”, “Just try to be a good person”, “Psychic Powers don’t make you special”, “You’re the protagonist of your own life” you can see where I’m going. He ends up really helping Mob, instilling in him this kind of advice, acting like a moral compass of sorts, a guide so to speak.
Now I bet your thinking something like: “Oh well Reigen just told him that so he could use him!”
And I got to call you out for being so absolutely dismissive.
And I’m not touching the whole “Reigen doesn’t care for Mob!” thing again. *cough* Gratitude *cough* *wheezes* when he calls for Mob immediately in the tunnel with the ghosts in the first episode* wheezes*
I think I need my inhaler
Reigen still pays Mob, yeah 300 yen isn’t much, but Reigen still takes Mob out to eat, he even bought him a cell phone? Also Reigen’s prices are the cheapest in town, and he’s been shown to barter for his services; like when they helped the farmer, and he asked for a share of the crop instead of money.
Where I’m going with this is that Reigen isn’t filthy rich, he’s actually pretty strapped for cash, but he still pays Mob. But he’s just using him after all.
lies to costumers
People go to Reigen, looking for help, as some spirit has afflicted them. Most of the time though, that spirit on their shoulder is actually just a stiff shoulder. So Reigen gives them a massage. The times it’s actually the work on a spirit, is when he calls in Mob to help. At the end of the day, Reigen still helps his customers, and gives them peace of mind.
Were they misled? Sure, you can say that. But they still end up leaving happy and content, except for very few occasions, like the one guy who wanted Reigen to curse a man, and the group of college kids who wanted the ghost family exorcised.
It’s pretty I easy to prove that he’s kind of an ass.
Yeah he certainly is at times, I won’t deny that, but he ends up suffering for it. And boy does he suffer it for, hello Separation Arc. Just read chapters 68-73. Reigen ends up saying some pretty bad things to Mob,causing Mob to stop showing up for work, and there’s a whole downward spiral for Reigen. People always mention how much SUFFERING the Mogami arc is.
While the Mogami Arc broke my heart, hurt my soul, The Seperation Arc came right after and absolutely shattered me into a million pieces.
Now, let’s go back to the time Mob first met Reigen. The flashback in the anime shows Mob’s point of view, when that flashback actually occurs later on and it’s from Reigen’s point of view.
Reigen’s pretty unsatisfied, he was going to close up shop, probably move somewhere else and start a new job, as he had done previous times before.
But then Mob shows up, changes all of that.
“You’ve Grown Up”
So yes, we have Reigen coming to a realization about his relationship with Mob, as he’s being dragged and publicly lynched.
Now, let me raise another point, cause clearly Reigen’s a bad person.
HEY LOOK AT THIS?
We have Mob, not only saying he always knew Reigen didn’t have powers, he also knows that REIGEN IS A GOOD PERSON.
I’m not saying it, Mob is.
Yes, Reigen does do questionable things, but that does not mean he is not a good person! He is flawed and complex, but an incredibly REAL character. He’s not some LAWFUL GOOD goody two-shoes piece of cardboard character who is as bland as stale bread, and absolutely FAR from being perfect, but that is what makes him so good and great.
How about the fact that Mob has known for a good 3-4 years that Reigen never actually had powers, but still practically used him and had Reigen keep putting on the psychic charade for Mob’s sake for his own benefit?
