OKAY KIDS GET READY FOR SOME UNNECESSARILY DETAILED EXAMINATIONS OF KAIBA’S COMPUTER BC THE ANIMATORS MADE THESE DECISIONS AND NOW WE ALL HAVE TO LIVE WITH THEM

1) Kaiba is running an Apple computer!! This episode first aired in Japan on the 5th of March 2002, so this is right after what’s called Apple’s “comeback” where Steve Jobs returned and brought unto the world those colourful aerodynamic iMacs and shortly thereafter, the first iPhone. Apple was up-and-coming, cool and techy but mainstream enough for your uncle to know what it was. The only surprising thing about Kaiba using it is that he doesn’t have his own KaibaCorp software to use instead.

2) The fact that (a) Apple exists in the world of YGO and (b) Kaiba uses it means that ALMOST CERTAINLY Kaiba is TRYING TO OUTDO STEVE JOBS as “cool young genius CEO in a black poloneck launches new technological product with ~showmanship~”. Like Seto Kaiba quite likely said, in canon, “fuck Steve Jobs, he thinks he’s cool? how about announcing a product while HANGING OUT OF A HELICOPTER, loser”.

3) Kaiba has shortcuts on his toolbar including several for Apple/Mac related things and one for MSN!! I used to chat with my friends via MSN in like, 2004-2006 OFTEN ABOUT YGO and wow is this bringing back a weird confluence of memories Do you think he chats with Mokuba via MSN???

4) It appears he is running all sorts of things in the background including something to detect imposters (presumably on the network, not on the blimp).

5) This has nothing to do with characterisation or world-building but I’ve painstakingly figured out what most of the katakana words are so I’m going to share them with you!
ローカルマシン ゾーン = rōkara mashin zōn = local machine zone
サポート = sapōto = support
プリント = purinto = print (printer?)
ホーム = hōmu = home
メール = mēru = mail
トップページ = tōpupēji = top page
Sadly the kanji are too fuzzy to have any hope of me looking them up (although, like, some of them are underneath fairly obvious symbols to suggest their meaning…!)

ALSO seriously, “The Sun of God Dragon”, “The God of Obelisk” and “Saint Dragon - The God of Osiris”, we are ALL OVER THE SHOP on both Egyptology and the English language here.

Do you want Sense8 to be renewed? Read this!

Starting petitions and hashtags is great, but Netflix cares about numbers, statistics, and money since this season cost them approx. $109 million.

We don’t have much time. We need to move fast. Really fast.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • If you don’t have a Netflix subscription, GET ONE! The 1st month is a free trial anyway.
  • As soon as you get the subscription, WATCH SENSE8, even if it’s only playing in the background on mute.
  • If you have a subscription and haven’t watched Sense8 yet. DO IT NOW!
  • If you’ve already watched it a couple of times, ONE MORE TIME won’t hurt.
  • If you know anyone who might be interested in watching Sense8, show them how to do it right. It has to be THROUGH NETFLIX, not free streaming sites.

We’re seriously running out of time. With the cast asking us to make noise, and posting absolutely nothing to comfort us, like Brian did with season 1 renewal, the odds are not looking good.

I’m talking we need to do this within 24 hours. If you think it’s not possible, think again. We can do anything we set our minds to do.

This is our chance to practically show the cast and the writers how much we love them and the show, not with a hashtag or a petition, but by actively doing something Netflix can’t say ‘No’ to.

If you love this show, fight for it.

Please, reblog so more people can see this. Thank you!

This actually did happen to a real person, and the real person was me. I had gone to catch a train. This was April 1976, in Cambridge, U.K. I was a bit early for the train. I’d gotten the time of the train wrong. I went to get myself a newspaper to do the crossword, and a cup of coffee and a packet of cookies. I went and sat at a table.
I want you to picture the scene. It’s very important that you get this very clear in your mind. Here’s the table, newspaper, cup of coffee, packet of cookies. There’s a guy sitting opposite me, perfectly ordinary-looking guy wearing a business suit, carrying a briefcase. It didn’t look like he was going to do anything weird. What he did was this: he suddenly leaned across, picked up the packet of cookies, tore it open, took one out, and ate it.
Now this, I have to say, is the sort of thing the British are very bad at dealing with. There’s nothing in our background, upbringing, or education that teaches you how to deal with someone who in broad daylight has just stolen your cookies.
You know what would happen if this had been South Central Los Angeles. There would have very quickly been gunfire, helicopters coming in, CNN, you know… But in the end, I did what any red-blooded Englishman would do: I ignored it. And I stared at the newspaper, took a sip of coffee, tried to do a clue in the newspaper, couldn’t do anything, and thought, what am I going to do?
In the end I thought, Nothing for it, I’ll just have to go for it, and I tried very hard not to notice the fact that the packet was already mysteriously opened. I took out a cookie for myself. I thought, That settled him. But it hadn’t because a moment or two later he did it again. He took another cookie. Having not mentioned it the first time, it was somehow even harder to raise the subject the second time around. “Excuse me, I couldn’t help but notice …” I mean, it doesn’t really work.
We went through the whole packet like this. When I say the whole packet, I mean there were only about eight cookies, but it felt like a lifetime. He took one, I took one, he took one, I took one. Finally, when we got to the end, he stood up and walked away. Well, we exchanged meaningful looks, then he walked away, and I breathed a sigh of relief and sat back.
A moment or two later the train was coming in, so I tossed back the rest of my coffee, stood up, picked up the newspaper, and underneath the newspaper were my cookies.
The thing I like particularly about this story is the sensation that somewhere in England there has been wandering around for the last quarter-century a perfectly ordinary guy who’s had the same exact story, only he doesn’t have the punch line.

A Handful of Questions to Ask Yourself While Creating a Character

Compelling characters make compelling stories. Here’s a bunch of questions you can ask yourself while developing a character.

1) What does your character want from life? What is their motivation? What drives them? Most people want things - it could be as small as wanting a sandwich, or something huge like wanting to change the world. Does your character want something? Does your character dream? What about? And if they don’t, why don’t they?

2) Is your character shy? Outgoing? Insecure? Proud? Why are they the way they are? My favourite example of this question answered well is Ron Weasley from Harry Potter. He’s insecure because he doesn’t come from a wealthy family, has a bunch of older brothers who are all amazing in some form or way, his mother always wanted a daughter, Ginny, and so he doesn’t feel as wanted. Also, one of his best friends is the Chosen One, and the other is the brightest witch of her age - a cocktail that would make anyone doubt themselves.

3) What kind of clothes does your character wear? Why? The way you dress says a lot about who you are. For instance, If a character wears designer clothes and the latest fashions, it shows that they have the means to keep up with the trends. However if they wear a medley of things bought second-hand, or buy cheap stuff from supermarkets, they might not have the money to spare on outfits, or maybe they just don’t care about fashion.

4) How does your character speak?  Speech patterns have origins. An accent, language, a dialect, all signify geography, social class, personality. It could be as simple as cussing too much. But be sure you know why your character speaks the way they do. And if it’s not a speech pattern you’re familiar with, do your research!

5) Likes and dislikes I sometimes give characters specific likes (”I like tomatoes”) or specific dislikes (”I dislike eggs”), simply because it humanises them. You don’t have to do this, or be as specific as that, if it doesn’t serve your story. But it’s definitely something you can consider. Everyone has those little things they love and hate, and you can go places with them. (”I hate eggs because my childhood bully threw an egg at me and scarred me for life.”) Be creative and have fun with it.

6) Who does your character love? Romantic attraction isn’t necessary to create a wholesome character. Nevertheless, if they are in love with someone, be sure to understand why they love someone. Love is at its best, a complicated emotion difficult to break down, but a relationship has to be believable. As a reader, I need to be able to look at a couple and think, yeah, I can see what their love is built on.

7) What would their favourite songs be? This is not so much a question as it is a trick I use to get a better feel for who my character is. No matter what time period your story is set in, you can use this to understand your character better. Take your playlist and pick what songs they would enjoy. It says a lot about who they are. For instance, one of my characters would enjoy Western classical music and nothing else. Another character listens to the worst kind of pop and loves it.

8) How does your character react under stress? Can they cope with it? Do they get tense? Angry? Teary? Why? Why not? How a person deals with stress is a vital part of their personality. Decisions taken under stress can be the worst you’ve ever made, or (depending on how you handle stress), can be effective solutions to problems. The way a person reacts to stress often has a lot to do with their background and upbringing. Example (this is a generalisation, of course): someone who comes from a difficult family background may have more extreme reactions to stress than someone who is well-adjusted and comes from a happy family.

9) What does your character do when they’re alone? You’re often a different person alone than when you are with other people. The pretences and false faces come away, and all the little thoughts you usually ignore now have time to play in the open. Who is your character when they’re alone? What do they do? What do they think about? Why do they think about/do things in that way?

10) Where does your character fail? Characters must have flaws to be compelling. Nobody is perfect, and your character shouldn’t be either. Whether its insecurity or anger, or a lack of initiative, or smaller things like not being a good artist, or not being the best at sports–we all have personal failings and we all have things we aren’t good at. Consider: where does your character mess up?

I hope this helps! Remember to have fun. Developing characters can be the most exciting thing. Keep an open mind while working. Happy writing!

the other day I was reading this story about people who lived in Japan and ended up accidentally dating Japanese ppl. like, this foreign guy wanted advice on how to gently let down a Japanese guy. because this J guy? thought they'd been dating for WEEKS. and F guy is like BUT HOW and J guy is, well we've been doing couple things, that means we're a couple??? and F guy is I THOUGHT WE WERE HANGING OUT NOT DATING. So. Victuuri AU where Viktor hasn't confessed yet... to his steady boyfriend, Yuuri.

Hoo boy. I think it’s really hard to distinguish, even within the same culture, exactly how to meander through relationship stuff. ANYWAY have some one-sided pining (for once it’s not mutual, cause one person is done pining!) for headcanon happy hour.

–”Help, Christophe,” Viktor whispers into the phone desperately, “I-I’m at a karaoke bar with that cute guy I danced with last week. I need him to be my husb-”

Okay, whoa there,” says Christophe. “You met him last week. You have only been taking a break in Japan for a month.”

“I need him to be my boyfriend,” Viktor forlornly corrects. He just has to figure out how to do it.

“Can’t believe you exist,” Yuuri slurs, bursting in and slinging an arm around his shoulder. “Can’t believe you asked me out to karaoke.” His eyes shine. Viktor has never seen much attraction in karaoke, but his heart is singing now.

–After two months of dinner and lunch and Viktor texting Breathtaking Future Husband (BFH) every hour, Yuuri pauses the movie on Viktor’s bigscreen and lightly says, “do you want to go to a festival together?”

They coordinate their outfits. Yuuri wins him a big stuffed poodle at a booth, and thumbs gently at dessert that’s stuck on Viktor’s cheek. Yuuri is the best friend Viktor has ever had. He wants to lie giggling over nothing on his living room floor together, while simultaneously needing to toss Yuuri into his bed to do unspeakable things with him until they both cry.

Yuuri, sweet Yuuri, doesn’t seem at all troubled by these thoughts.

–Viktor wishes he could hide his trembling fingers, but it’s so hard when they’re laced with Yuuri’s. Tonight is the night. There are reservations at a beautiful restaurant with a fountain out front, and Viktor will ask Yuuri to officially be his boyfriend and go on dates with him. Maybe, if he’s very lucky, he’ll get a kiss on the cheek, and. And…

“Yuuri,” he blurts, and pulls him over to sit on the fountain. “I’ve been thinking…”

His beloved looks down at his watch. Viktor’s heart only breaks in half. “Our reservations were for five minutes ago, right? Shouldn’t we–”

“Yuuri, please be my boyfriend!” Yuuri blinks at him, bottom lip trembling. The misty look in his eye has nothing to do with the cheerful tinkling of the fountain in the background.

“Are… are we not already boyfriends?” Viktor has been catapulted to heaven. Yuuri’s spirits seem to fall, though–he yanks his hand from Viktor’s, face crumpling. “Oh. Oh no. Things were different in America but this is Japan and I– you must think I’m desperate and overeager.” Viktor has no idea what to say. He has no idea how he’s this lucky.

“I call you Future Husband in my head!” Viktor blurts. “I– I bought wedding rings? Maybe… a week after we met?”

Yuuri’s jaw drops. “You’re… you’re kind of…”

“Desperate and overeager?” Maybe Viktor should throw himself into the fountain. He is desperate. He’s foolish. Foolish Viktor. Except then:

“What are we going to do with four wedding rings,” Yuuri mutters. The fountain water is freezing. They kiss in it for twenty minutes anyway.

Women outside of the African diaspora, please stop saying "rock your natural hair."

From straightening to color processing, we put our hair through a lot to achieve the looks we want. Rarely do we consider working with what we already have. Think about it: when was the last time you wore your hair as is? This season, we’re challenging you to embrace your hair and rock a style that works with your natural texture, not against it.

Not convinced? Just take a look at the three POPSUGAR staffers ahead who have each come to love their unique hair texture over the years and revealed their tips for showing it off. Whatever your hair type, their relatable stories and gorgeous no-fuss styles will inspire you to rethink it the next time you find yourself reaching for a hot tool.

(cont. POPSUGAR)

This article isn’t all that important, but look at the women chosen to “rock their natural hair.”

Who thinks of these women when you hear the phrase natural hair? I just want to make a plea:  Women outside of the African diaspora, please stop saying “rock your natural hair.”  You can call it virgin.  You can call it unprocessed.  You can call it anything other than natural hair because that’s a movement for Black women.

I’m not saying this as part of an overreach of cultural appropriation accusations at all, because this has nothing to do with that.  This isn’t the n-word conversation where the answer to “can I say it too?” is always an emphatic NO! from the majority of people. And I have no problem with women of all backgrounds embracing the hair as it sprouts from their heads without the addition of heat or chemicals.  I support any trend where women aren’t doing damage to part of themselves to fit a beauty standard.

But.  The women in these photos have never not been allowed to wear their hair without chemicals or damaging processes.  There has never been a point in history these women couldn’t just wash and go, even if that meant a wash and go with a hair band.  The hair types on these women are always acceptable in any business or social situation.  They’ve never been denied a job because of their hair.  They’ve never been told they’re aggressive or too political because of their hair.  Their hair has never been illegal.  (You can have a different conversation about countries where women have to cover their hair, but that applies to all women, not just women of a certain race, and it applies to all hair, not just hair that’s kinky, so the legality isn’t based on hair at all.)

Black women rocking their natural hair has nothing to do with white women learning to manage their frizz.  Those are two separate conversations.  One is about actually fitting into society and the other is about managing a beauty standard that always caters to women who look like you anyway.  The natural hair movement is about re-teaching Black women how to care for their hair after all of that knowledge was lost to our people when we were dragged to this continent and forced to use sheep shears and banned from traditional African hairstyles.  Natural hair blogs and messageboards and haircare lines aren’t just educational resources, but emotional ones as well, where Black women can discuss their struggles embracing their natural kinks and coils in a society where the beauty standard for hair is the women in these pictures instead.  When non-Black women take up the charge of “rocking their natural hair” it dilutes the conversation and it makes it harder to connect.  There are way more non-Black women than Black women in this country and they will drown out the voices who needed the support the most if allowed to.

So as a courtesy, find some other banner.  The natural hair movement wasn’t started for y'all or by y'all and it’s not as integral to y'all’s culture or survival.  So just use a different term.  Once again, y’all saw something cute and catchy that Black people were doing, wanted to capitalize on it, and whitewashed the meaning out of it.  Skipping your weekly blowout in the summer has nothing to do with taking the risk of being fired if you waltz into work without a mid-length sew-in and your coils on display instead.  Find another way to share white girl hair tips.  Please.

Edit: I really don’t get what’s so hard to understand about this.

My interpretation of the MOON signs

(You could probs relate your sun if you want maybe even your rising)

Aries: they take up your life: being loud, leaving mess on the stairs, creating arguments out of thin air and always filling the void with their drama. Very self-centred but oblivious to it so I’ll let it be. Problems they hav always someone else’s fault. Very loving and cuddly and express passion easily. Never stick to hobbies after announcing that its there biggest passion n cant survive without it. Though, they don’t wait around for things to be handed to them - they are always up to something interesting. Independent.

Taurus: they are great to spill your words upon and never flinch when u say something deep or shocking so it makes u chill af cause they are…Most of the time…they can get angered when things aren’t as it should as they are very stubborn. don’t like people who aren’t committed to friendship or plans/dreams and dont like people who dont give their stuff back. Seemed to hav cows eyes: very deep n dreamy and long eyelashes -often brown eyes that i know of or watery blue eyes. lov food or other luxuries.

Gemini: childlike, like everything light hearted and humorous. there has to always be words to fill up the quiet spaces otherwise they start to get agitated. Dont like boring people and will blatantly walk off or something. Nervouusss people. Tapping all the time. When they’re in a goood mood they’re goofy but can become detached and cold and become a bit of a smart arse. Like knowing their shit.

Cancer: homely people. Warm and loving to fault as they are always let down by others who do not give the same warmth and pure emotions back. I think they could probably guilt trip u many times. emotions are not hidden which is good and bad because shots are firedddd and their words filled venom when there really cheesed off. Like lots of nice things. also love cute fluffy animals. Love their family to be always near - protective can become smothering. Talk about the ‘good old days’ 24/7.

Leo: why are you so posey and dramatic? They like to tell a tall tale - love to add bits to the truth to make it more exciting - which is actually interesting to hear tbh so good job :) they love to be centre of attention obvs. Also hold their heads high and always seem taller than actually are. Full of exuberance. & they often believe in their abilities so they achieve good grades and r smarttt!

Virgo: lovs when people do little silly things for them because they like when people are as detail orientated as them. expect too much of people becaus they do too much for others. Nervous but lowkey cause their earthiness sort of makes it hum in the background. Has potential to be shady. I love their organisation, chills me the f out. Some reason i feel they be really good at ASMR videos because of their voice & movements. and they r actually quite talkative but its usually nothing too intellectual or snobbish just good natter. Bites their nails!

Libra: i dont get them. They dont make an imposing impression on me as they’re delicate and not too in ya face. Loves knitted jumpers and wearing light colours Ive noticed. Sweet n gentle. Probs could get away with murder. Gets really into things like a celeb or tv series for a while. Has fan blogs probably. like to talk about things such as kpop, clothes, items in their neat pencil case and make up. Idkkk

Scorpio: protectivveee. Intense. Passionate about theirs hobbies and interests. Can become lost in their own intellectual, abstract world forgetting what is truly important until they realise and become regretful and then hold many unresolved grudges. They are e m o t i o n a l but try to hide it - constantly simmering and on the verge of erupting. Though they are quite interested in their own passion - they’ll hype u up about yours and talk for hours about theirs and your own dreams. Abstract knowledge that seems to appear out of no where when they speak -unconventionally smart.

Sagittarius: want to escape reality. Someone i used to know would read a lot of books - probs erotic - she also used her work as escapism? her husband wouldn’t take her on holiday:( another i know comes across very cool and full of knowledge and like to says corny things like ‘you might as well live your life to the fullest because you’ve only got one’. acts like a philosopher. Has gooood taste in music. knows everyone and can keep good relationships with all of them.

Capricorn: thinks they’re are funny af but peeps often laugh at their jokes cause they’re just a bit shit. Tries to come across cool 😎looking for a for job but isn’t working out lol. Wants fame n fortune. they love to talk deep and intellectual without getting too personal. probably quite lovey dovey but it is buried deep inside them. likes to keep it light by listening to music or watching the telly otherwise there thoughts overwhelm them. ( i hav cap moon so might look like a different viewpoint to the others moon signs)

Aquarius: loves to make a point that they are different lol. Intellectual af cause they really smart. Can talk for hours on end but still likes down time. they are the world’s friend but they only let a few know the real them (if thats is actually the real them ). Quirky sense of humour. Hav big dreams and most likely succeed in pursuing them. they are very open about weird stories and experiences they hav had which is fun to hear. will hav something to say about every topic on earth - love to share an opinion.

Pisces: too kind for their own good. They know your weaknesses/insecurities from first time you meet. i think they have melancholy spells which they find themselves in a trance - i catch them staring blankly quite a lot. Love to ask if you’re okay. Mooody. Let down by humanity. Very chatty and has of cool things to say. Music may rule their life - musically talented in one case ik (probs used as escapism). Can be burdened with very unsettling thoughts of not being good enough; making sure they keep there reputation for being the nice guy which means getting pushed about

OC’s in this universe!
of course ocs are welcome, but here’s the things I won’t go with:
  • characters that are friends or childhood friends with bendy and boris; only I can make those
  • characters who want to tag along; your character can’t just believe a story two strangers made about a map that leads to part of an ancient machine that only they can see
  • characters looking for the ink machine parts themselves; they can’t
  • characters that any of the main characters have a crush on; only I can decide that (exept if your character is a voluptuous lady; then bendy would be all over her)
  • characters that already exist; this has nothing to do with ocs but I had to include it, any alredy existing chartoon character is something only I could add
  • a convenient character who pops up in the most needed of situations; don’t listen to bob ross, there’s no such thing as “happy accidents” ;)

all in all, OC’s can be background characters, they can either just show up in the background or talk for a little bit with the main cast!

they can advance the plot, but they can’t ba a major part in it

It worries me when people actually believe that Beauty and the Beast is about Stockholm Syndrome and/or abuse. Everyone is entitled to their own interpretation, for sure. But when people start shaming others for enjoying the tale, it becomes a problem.

Let’s break it down:

Beauty and the Beast shows how Stockholm Syndrome works

Actually, Stockholm Syndrome is yet to be recognized as an actual mental disorder, and people who have been part of hostage situations have denied it.

Stockholm Syndrome involves adapting your actions to please a captor when you feel threatened. It is a survival mechanism. In this case, Belle never changes for the Beast, and instead challenges him every time.

But Beast kidnapped and captured Belle in his castle. He is a captor

He didn’t kidnap her. Belle chose to take upon herself a penalty that fell on her father due to his trespassing.

Also, let’s remember that we can’t analyze a film without taking its historical setting into account. The story takes place in a Royal background during the 18th Century,  when the justice system was nothing like ours.

As a result, Royalty -to which the Prince, who is now a Beast, belonged to- dealt with trespassers much differently than we do, as they believed their word to be the law.

Yes, the Beast/the Prince is her captor. But only because he is punishing her for what he considers to be a transgression on her father’s part. Let’s remember: this is a character that lost his kingdom, and the only power he now has, has been reduced to the castle and what exists in it. Growing out of this mentality and what has been wrongly taught to him, is part of his character arc (and it’s also why it makes sense that an Enchantress would want to teach a lesson to a Prince and not someone like Gaston, since the entire kingdom depends on him).

But he’s abusive

The Beast never insults or physically harms Belle. At most, he’s rude and demanding…in 2 scenes. Yes. When people talk about the Beast’s abuse in the animation, only two or three scenes where he’s yelling or smashing furniture are used to support the theory.

However:

1- The scenes (being rude to Belle on the way to her room, demanding Belle dines with him, and throwing her from the West Wing and smashing furniture) occur on the same day. The very same day he’s had to interact with another person for the 1st time in 10 years, after almost becoming a complete animal. There’s pent up anger, for sure. But never again do we see the Beast being either forceful or violent. On the contrary, he learns his way into gaining his human behavior back.

2- In each of the scenes, the animators made careful decisions to show the Beast’s instant regret. When analyzing a film, we can’t forget the visual cues that it gives us.

3-  Belle doesn’t fear him. Even after seeing him easily take on the wolves that attacked her (that is, at his most violent), she confronts him and calls him out on his rudeness. A scared person wouldn’t dare to do so. She’s an immovable force that the Beast doesn’t know how to deal with, not a victim.

4- We can’t choose to forget that the Beast sets her free, which is no small feat for someone who has been brought up in a royal background.

But it glamorizes abusive relationships by making girls believe they can change men

No. Choices made by Linda Woolverton (script) and Howard Ashman (lyrics) focus on Belle and the Beast as outcasts, and forcing her to stay in the castle is a plot device to help the characters get to know each other (and, like I mentioned before, it’s justified by the messed up royal background of the Beast).

It doesn’t ‘glamorize’ an abusive relationship. When the Beast is rude and violent, Belle doesn’t take an interest in him and she actively rejects him. It’s only when the power balance shifts and they treat each other as equals, that the friendship and attraction begin.

The tale is more about outcasts finding solace in each other, than about a woman changing a man to fit her standards. Both Belle and the Beast change in some way. Both must look past each other’s appearance and behavior (both are stubborn and set on their ways) to find what is within. The fact that what is in there pleases them both is what makes the tale great. After all, Belle could have found another Gaston inside the Beast.

But in real life people don’t change for other people”

In real life, people don’t turn into beasts and furniture. There are no curses or enchantments. We’re dealing with a fairy tale that shows us how the world should be, could be or we would want it to be. And if things didn’t work out for the better, there would be no story to tell.

Let’s never forget the striking difference between fiction and reality. And if you’re worried kids will get the wrong message, talk to them. Don’t blame it on the films or the stories.

We can’t and shouldn’t judge a film on account of its validity in real life. In real life, most of us wouldn’t support vigilantism, yet we enjoy films like Batman or The Avengers without a hitch. In real life, we would probably reject terrorism, yet we enjoy Heath Ledger’s Joker (The Dark Knight) and Hugo Weaving’s V (V for Vendetta) despite the fact that both can be labeled as terrorists.

I’ll be writing more about this soon, but for now, I truly hope people will take a closer look at a film before just glancing at the plot and thinking: “oh, this sounds too much like this other thing! It must be the same!”.

Take the time to consider all the elements in a story before letting a Meme or a Tweet define how you see it.

Soulmate AU where Lena covers up her mark because she doesn't want to be rejected by her soulmate too

Most people in the world don’t have soul marks, because most people in the world don’t need a soulmate. Lionel is drunk when he explains this to Lena, though she won’t realize that until she’s much older, looking back on the memory with all the clarity of an adult.

“Some people are a little easier to love than we are, Lena,” he tells her heavily. “It doesn’t take anyone special to do it - there are thousands of people who could love them. But you’re like me, I’m afraid - you’re damn smart, but you’re never going to be lovable.”

He shows Lena his soul mark, a thin geometric shape on his collar, and Lena traces her tiny fingers over it, curious. It doesn’t look like hers at all - hers is on her stomach, made up of soft curves and swoops that remind her somehow of birds.

She is only 5 years old, and she’s only been living with the Luthors for a year. She is pleased to be invited into Lionel’s big study, with the heavy tan globe that she can spin around on its heavy base. She is pleased to hear him say that she is like him, and to find out they have something in common. It feels a little like belonging.

Look those different reactions and emotions from Sam and Dean toward Castiel in that clip(12x19)! I mean, it's the perfect comparison between REACTION from a BROTHER (Sam) and an ANGRY BOYFRIEND!!! How can anyone say otherwise???

You mean the husband / brother in law dynamic?!

I’m paraphrasing you, sorry, you said brother, and they are very much like brothers in a way but also I feel like… not? Sam and Cas do care about each other deeply but they don’t really interact like brothers, most of their interactions are through Dean, when they do bond in ONE episode out of the 100 Cas has been in they STILL talk about Dean, like, a lot….

And they care but they’re not, like, anywhere as they both do for Dean. We are continuously shown the difference, eg. Sam isn’t that worried about Cas being dead in seasons 7 or 8 in comparison to Dean who is literally wallowing in booze and thinks he is seeing him everywhere, when Dean tells Sam “its not an IT, its CAS” etc, when Lucifer was possessing Cas and when Cas has been missing this season Dean is sleeplessly researching, going out of his mind, using all his coping mechanisms etc and Sam is supportive of Dean and saying “he’ll be fine”… pfff.

it’s the standard brother in law - person - spouse dynamic IRL and in fiction.

I love how CLEAR they are making it this season. I harp on about this all the time, which is probably why you messaged me ;)

I also love how they made this super clear with Saileen too! Which I discovered today was canonically scripted as a love interest *sighs contentedly*.

All the parallels *sighs again*…. but here how when Eileen is in emotional trouble Dean looks at Sam…

 kinda like…

Sorry for the terrible gif quality - I can’t gif well!

So yeah, I’m actually kinda weirdly disappointed by this promo as I was hoping for more unadulterated relief on Dean’s face before the anger considering he’s been out of his mind worried and looking for Cas in the corpse columns… but then I guess it’s because I try not to but I have my own expectations of what I speculate for this episode. I do definitely see more of the angst though and it getting stronger hopefully through the episode til its finale….

Also @godshipsit pointed out that the scene looks like it has been cut and Sam is kind of hovering in the background…. like he has a lot this season re: Dean / Cas moments.

A Court of Fire and Dreams

So if you haven’t read my Sastiel hc’s/fic (Rowaelin x Feysand’s children), I’ve made an easy to follow master post which includes the sequel, Moon of Fire!

Seraphine has never known what it feels like to feel her mother, The Queen of Flame and Shadow’s fire. Ever since she was born, she was living in darkness. Though Seraphine would have never thought that the night—the very thing she was running away from—would set her free.

Prequel: The Hawk and The Moon

“Rowan doesn’t correct her that he’s a hawk. He doesn’t voice the fear in his heart that a bird made of fire would never be able to fly to the moon.”

Part I

“As expected, the High Lord and Lady of the Night Court’s firstborn son is powerful in strength and powers.”

Part II

“Kastiel’s breath stopped as he took in the sight of the silver jewel drop from the sky.”

Part III

““Done,” Kastiel says, already feeling the burn of the tattoo etching on his upper forearm.”

Part IV

“If someone had been looking up at them, they would have seen two people—two lovers perhaps—leaning towards each other’s warmth, enjoying the view from the House of Wind.”

Part V

““Kastiel,” she laughed, and then so did he, aware that they’d already made their way to her bed.”

Moon of Fire: Part i

“Seraphine lost track of time in the darkness surrounding her. The feel of her fire, red, bright, alive seemed like a life time ago. Sweet kisses shared between her and the Prince of Night almost like a dream.”

Moon of Fire: Part ii

““Stand down shadowsinger,” Kastiel said with utter, clear dominance—the spitting image of the High Lord of the Night Court. “Let me get my mate back alone.””

Moon of Fire: Part iii

“Seraphine stood in the cover of trees. Kastiel was waist high in the stream, his dark hair glistening in the water, and his tanned body—strong and chiselled—out in all its glory.”

Moon of Fire: Part iv

“Kastiel’s lips found hers in the dark—and as they dropped down, down, down—their spirits soared.”

Moon of Fire: Part v

“She didn’t hesitate to follow him. Didn’t hesitate, as they passed dead rose bushes and flowers. Didn’t hesitate, as she followed Fen into the small hedge maze in the center of the northern garden.”

Moon of Fire: Part vi

“I want to,” she said to him, running her hands down his chest. She stared at the deep blue eyes of her mate, “but only if you want to.” He answered with a deep, hard kiss.

Moon of Fire: Part vii

“Kastiel’s heart stopped. It felt as if he was filled up with light as his mate came down the stairs. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He couldn’t believe it—how lucky he was to find her.”

Moon of Fire: Part viii

“Kastiel exploded into the tops of the stairs of the Great Hall—Aures right behind him. “You can’t just disrupt an official court party,” she hissed at him. He ignored her.”

Moon of Fire: Part ix

“Kastiel and the King of Terrasen stood at attention as three wyverns landed by their feet.”

Moon of Fire: Part x

“You’re going to need this,” Rowan said. Kastiel looked up just in time to catch the sword in the air by the hilt. “What is it?”

Moon of Fire: Part xi

Aures had been at the City of Orynth plenty of times. It’s white and green background was a constant in her mind whenever she thought of Terrasen’s capital. Though now, it was practically unrecognisable.

Bonus: Sastiel Edits

(Which has nothing to do with Fen, but I wanted to add a wolf in this)

Trump is coming to Arizona for a rally to pardon the ex-sheriff Arpaio, who was relieved of his duty for racial profiling.

Because of course a racist president would stick up for his racist police.

With the way things have been this week, I can almost taste the tension in the air. The rally already has several protest planned over Facebook and I’m planning on going

I’m fully aware of the dangers of being this close to evil people but I cant sit by and do nothing

This kinda stuff means a lot to me, considering I’m of latinx background and the last thing we need is a racist sheriff and a racist president getting off freely. Racism and white supremacy will not be ignored.

From the Makers of Sherlock

Just had the “Meet the Makers” panel with Mofftiss and Sue, which was kinda….anti-climactic? They were a bit more subdued, maybe because they took LIVE QUESTIONS randomly from the audience. They were aware that people suspected the questions were vetted to be softballs, so they went back to live, which yay them, I think it was brave. I’m not snarky here, I love and respect them for making Sherlock.

The only answers which were illuminating were 1) that season 4 was always going to be about Mary’s death, because John being a widower is an important part of canon, so she has to go. Thus the series became about grief. How John handled it, how Sherlock handled it. paraphrasing here, because they loved Mary so much.

Two, as Steven put it, you shine a light where you want it, you don’t paint the whole backdrop. Meaning, what they left out of the story doesn’t matter. This arose when a girl asked what happened after John got shot by Euros, and Steven made it into a bit of a joke … oh well Sherlock called the police, and followed the tracker he put behind John’s left ear, etc. etc. So there’s your answer for a lot of things like, how do they survive huge explosions, or what’s on that note? Doesn’t matter, blank background.

Three, all three of them together have a project greenlighted at BBC that has nothing to do with Sherlock but could be considered a, quote, stablemate. A later answer implied that it was updating a classic.

Someone asked about Garridebs, which I had personally also asked Steven about, and he gave the same reply again, that the important part of it was the personal moment when John is shot, BUT, we don’t need to see that from our John and Sherlock because everyone knows Sherlock would be upset. So he just used the name cuz he had three bodies to drop into the sea, why not call them that? Umm, ok.

Four, the decision to make Redbeard a child was made during TAB filming. According to them, It had become something of a joke, Sherlock mourning a dog so much, but what if it was a child? And they named him Victor Trevor from the canon.

I know some people are convinced they are lying liars who lie, but in person they are very genuine. Of course they are going to leave some loopholes open in case they need to come back to them, but I RRREEEAAALLLLYYY think they love Mary, think she’s not evil, and she’s dead.

Been pulling my hair out over a particularly background-heavy project but…I think I’m off to a…pretty alright start?

(Note: All real nhl teams are populated by fake fictional people in this fic.

Also note: I’m sorry this is disjuncted, I just needed to bang this out.

Triple note: yes this is a pride and prejudice au.

edit: Part 1

“Brah, brah!” Shitty burst into Jack’s apartment. Jack was sitting next to his counter with a protein shake and smiling down at his phone dopily. “You gotta listen to me.”

“The emergency key is for emergencies, Shits.” Jack sent a smiling emoji to the other person and received a string of unintelligible emojis in return. It was adorable.

“There are two emergencies today,” Shitty said. “No, strike that, make it three. So the first emergency is that I wanted to see you.”

“You can’t keep using that excuse to burst into my apartment whenever you feel like it.”

“Shhh,” Shitty put his hand over Jack’s mouth. “Just let me love you.”

“The second emergency is that I finally ran Chad Wickham out of Providence and I wanted to celebrate that with you,” Shitty plopped a bag of booze and snacks onto the counter.

“Shits, I’m not eating that junk,” Jack said, still looking down at his phone. “Anyway, Eric left some pie and pastries we can eat if you have to celebrate this.”

“That’s the third emergency, brah.” Shitty said seriously. “That bro is bad news. You gotta ditch him.”

Jack’s phone buzzed twice.

Eric: Omg Shitty is there? Tell him hello from me!

Eric: I left some banana pie in the fridge for him tell him to help himself!!! UuU

The two of them looked down at the text.

I know you're taking a bit of break, but I thought I'd ask my question anyway. Let's say Louis has to terrify about these charges, and questions come up where he would have to answer and break his NDA. Would negative consequences arise if he spoke the truth so as to not perjure himself, but in the process broke the NDA he is bound to re : closeting and/or stunts?

I would assume there is an exception to the NDA to respond to legal inquiries if necessary (later they might fight over whether it was necessary), but he’d have to take effort to keep that information limited to only those who would need to know, like investigating officers and the lawyers involved. When we have a case involving information subject to a protective order, for example, we have to designate sections of a deposition as highly confidential and they (and relevant documents) must be filed under seal with the court. (But only those parts; we file a redacted document in the court’s online filing system, which is publicly accessible, and send the unredacted version to judge’s chambers). During a trial, a similar thing happens, and if there’s anyone in the courtroom not already party to the protective order, they have to leave or agree to be bound to its terms.

Louis is unlikely to ever say much of anything here, though. If he’s been advised at all by his team, the first thing he did upon being arrested was ask for his attorney. And then he kept his mouth shut until the attorney arrived. And his attorney would have handled things. This isn’t something where the police really need any more evidence than a basic explanation of what occurred. They don’t need to know the background or why or everyone’s relationships, other than superficially. All that’s irrelevant. Being released on 20,000 bail is nothing. No one thinks this is particularly a big deal, really, other that a press that wants to sensationalize everything. He has no prior record. No one really got hurt or it wouldn’t be this simple of a charge. His lawyer will deal with it. Good chance the charges are dropped before his next court date or they reach an easy plea where he has to apologize and do some public service. They could push forward to make an example of him, but that seems unlikely considering the sympathies here (man who just lost his mother pushed to brink defending his girlfriend – whether that’s what happened, that’s how you spin it) and that he has no priors.
