i love teenage girls who love elephant 6. i love teenage girls who love built to spill, animal collective, pavement. i love teenage girls who love music in which the community is dominated by mid-30s men. i love how nonjudgemental they are when you’re new to the music, don’t know a song, don’t have every single album on limited-press vinyl, aren’t good at remembering names, can’t play an instrument. i love teenage girls who experiment with music when there’s a world of criticism waiting out there for us. it makes me hopeful for the future of the music we love and makes me not want to give up on learning new things about music. we have so much power. i love us.
So I met Julian Koster, Scott Spillane, and Jeremy Barnes of Neutral Milk Hotel the other night in spokane. I also met Robert Schneider of the Apples in Stereo. Definitely one of the better performances I’ve seen by both bands.
So I went to California last week, and in-between going to Disneyland, getting hugged by Kristen Wiig, and meeting the creator of Life With Loopy, I stopped at Amoeba Records on Sunset Boulevard. REALLY cool store…and I found not only a few CDs by bis, the band that performed the PPG ending, but I also found the EP for “Let’s Go (Signal In The Sky)” by The Apples In Stereo! A demo version of the song is also on the disc and Craig McCracken did the cover art!
Those are some super sweet finds! Thanks for sharing! :D
